The weather was okay for a bike ride so the plan was to drive to Gawler, collect a few caches on the way, then ride the Meat Trail and look for a few of the caches along there. Its a good thing I took my gravel bike because I underestimated the degree of ruts and sandy sections along the Meat Trail - and that only made the ride even more fun...at times collecting caches broke the flow and rhythm of the ride so I didn't stop to look for all caches. Great ride, although the plan to grab a bite to eat at the Wasleys Hotel didn't work out as they dont open the kitchen for lunch - but the person behind the bar was extremely friendly and a beer and pack of barbecue chips sufficed. By the end of the ride I had looked for 21 caches and found 20. Oddest location was pet cemetery. TFTC
Left home early for a day's caching in the Gawler to Bolivar area to see if I could achieve a Personal Best month. Most caches were in good condition, but there were some on the Gawler to Port Adelaide trail that needed maintenance that I didn't have with me. TFTC
Today out and about on 194 of 274 days to get my daily cacher Emerald Using my Garmin Etrex 22X and MacBook Air!Thanks for the cacheTFTC
Thanks for this nice sized cache. A scramble up the soft dirt to GZ, all good with the find, cheers. After starting the day doing the first 10 in the PATOGs I found 3 more at the Gawler end before attempting to reconstruct Anna, or Tommy. Good to be caching over this way again. I will put specific cache-related comments as I post. I seemed to mostly sign in just behind NZ cacher bullertrout. I also signed alongside some geo-stamps which took up 4 or 5 lines. Sad to see so much fly-tipping on the quieter back roads, some wasn't even dumped off the road but on it. A nice day to be out and about though. The last full day in town after my original plans to stay til Monday were changed. I had some admin stuff to tidy up before I could think about doing anything for myself so those were attended to via some messaging to and from NZ. I headed out for a walk along the cycleway besides the Expressway and managed a first few PATOG caches, esp nice now the weather has dropped to a much more palatable 19 -25 degrees for the daytime, yay. Following that it was back for some more work stuff before heading out to Gawler to head around the delightful Anna Tommy series of caches (and collateral extras). I was lucky that a recently made acquaintance was able to help me with the series of solves, thanks sooooo much for that. Then it was time to cache in the richness and make the finds, I was not disappointed. And so South Australia, so long and thanks for all the cache(s). I think this March will be my most bountiful month since I started caching, not bad considering I missed out on 3 days, by choice, and today is only 20th of the month. Alas my NZ pickings are slim so back to a more sedentary pace of finds. One last time, thanks to all the COs whose finds make this game so awesome.
Found with Pprime` as part of our Mega Leapday adventure.Thankyou for the entertainment here.
Found with T4mmmy on our Leap Mega Adventure. Thanks Peter, Jeffrey and Michael for entertaining me at this location. *{Overall find #12227}*
Found on a wonderful day out with friends way out North. Quick find and sign. TFTC
Plans were made to attend the SA mega although our plans changed as both of our team couldn't go due to other commitments. So with that being sorted we booked everything and only made it a short visit to SA this time. Flew into SA this morning with Rapidlywild and being neither one of us is a fan of city caching we headed out to do this Anna Tommy series that we have had solved for quiet awhile now. Feeling back at home on the dirt roads although a bit of a rougher ride not being in a 4WD but our hire car still did the trick. Picked this one up along our journey. No issues here. Thanks for the hide PeterNewman and thanks for a fun short stint away caching Rapidlywild.
Plans were in place with FurfacesLL #1 to attend the SA single day mega. So bookings for flights, accommodation and car hire were made and off we went. Flew in this morning and our first target for today was the Anna Tommy series. Have had this series solved for quite a while now, however we never seem to be in this area to do them. We made sure that changed today. We made our way around the dirt roads, getting our hire car very dirty, but hey, its SA, plenty of dirt roads. We collected other caches around as we made our way through the Anna Tommy series. No issues here, signed and replaced as found. No quite what I was expecting to find, but hey, it here and has a logbook, so we are happy. Signed and replaced as found. Thanks for the cache placement PeterNewman and thanks to FFLL for another awesome couple days of caching away from home. Looking forward to the next trip.
Matchbox Travel1.0/1.0 Regular Traditional Cache Back in Adelaide after 14 years. Here for The Great Leap Forward Mega and catching up with awesome caching friends and revisiting Adelaide where we lived for 16 beautiful years! Had a wonderful time reminiscing and admiring wonderful changes in the State, meeting friendly cachers and helpful COs and finding quality caches, high D/Ts and old ones.Nice pepper tree!Thank you for the cache Peter, Jeffrey and Michael.
We are visiting Adelaide for a few days, and today we hit some of the dirt trails further north. This one was, perhaps the sandiest of the trails we drove on today. Thank you so much for maintaining this oldie! The pepper tree was beautiful in its pink and green colouring today. Domsky
Lovely area, and I do like the Peppertree (even though it's introduced). Lots of White-plumed Honeyeaters around. TFTCDay 3 of my Great Leap Forward 2024 trip.
Great to grab another old cache. As I'm a serial stalker of oldies in Qld, often hanging around nursing homes just so I can hear the line, 'I remember when . . .', I also do like finding old caches where ever I travel. My BOLD07 companions would be sick of me raising, ' . . . but there is an oldie just around the corner'. And again some of these were caches and not retirement homes. Thanks Peter et all for keeping this oldie on life support and not applying the VAD.
GC71B3 Matchbox TravelDown in Adelaide from Brisbane for the leap year mega. After arriving today we headed north east to our accommodation in Waikerie grabbing caches along the way.Signed as BOLD 7 to save space in the log. Thanks for keeping this oldie going. TFTC PeterNewman
Continuing with the South Australian caching tour and the mad collection of caches in the state. There is so much to do and in such close proximity. Today it was leaving Adelaide and venturing north through Gamber and then a little east to grab caches in Waikerie to start the onslaught on the bike series of caches and locals. There is always time for one more cache and that seemed to be the theme for the road trip today. We left the airport and started our trip. Some great variety of caches today and some fun along the way. We got to see a huge moon a rising with some awesome pics. Thanks to all the COs for the hides and caches we found today, awesome caches. Caches were signed BOLD 7
Found in our group of six Queenslanders unsupervised in Radelaide mega'ing while travelling in the Venga Bus. All logs signed or stamped as SQUIRM. Thanks for the cache PeterNewman
Found with the SQUIRM team.En route to an event we had a little time up our sleeve so detoured to grab this cache????
Day 2 and SQUIRM have come to Gawler Its taken less than 15 hours and weve taken Stacey off road This oldie was a target cache before attending Davinells event in townThanks PeterNewman ??
Day 2 of Team SQUIRMs adventures in South Australia. In the Gawler/Barossa region today, detouring here before coffee. A quick find once we went the wrong way through the spiky bushes.Tftc PeterNewmanFind #5378
How very exciting the big trip has finally arrived! Down from Brisbane with a host of other geo friends with plans aplenty, enough to almost see us needing to extend or make a return visit. Our geonick for the trip is BOLD7 which is guaranteed to save the log paper for the 7 individual members of the team. As we make our way around sadly there wont be time for the usual individual logs and therefore just the old generic log will have to do. With little extra notes here and there if needed. Thank you for your cache which has added to my wonderful caching holiday.
With our group BOLD7 entertaining ourselves as we head north to expire the country. Fab day collecting all sorts including some well preserved oldies. Thanks to the SA cachers for awesome variety of caches.
Tftc, a quick find here in the Anna Tommy area. Thanks for hiding and maintaining.

Southern Autumn adventure Day 44. Mid North section of SA trip Day 15. Gawler Day 3. The weather was quite a bit better then the last few days, and it was time to get out on the bike trails to do some PATOG caches. I managed to go too far for my poor scooter and had to walk the last three km's back to the car. Other than that today's section of trail went pretty well, much better than sections later in the week. After that exercise was over, I went onto some back roads for solved puzzles and other miscellaneous caches I was able to get to before I ran out of energy.
As I headed back to Gawler from the Anna Tommy caches, I topped at two quick roadside caches.
Thanks for the cache PeterNewman

Up from Adelaide again, hoping to finish off the Anna Tommy series and pick up one or two other caches around the place too.
It’s going to be a bloody hot one so in for an early start to get in before the heat of the day hits.

Stopped by, added pen and cars, dropped of trackable, London taxi wanting to get back there.
I parked at the cross road and went for a walk up this track to find the cache. This time of the year the countryside is a beautiful show of green and gold.
Heading north to celebrate a special persons birthday later today.
It should be a hoot

Having previously come to grief on a “dry weather only” road, I walked to this one. Found the cache a bit to the south of where GPS wanted me to be; maybe it’s migrated a little over the years. Always great to find a cache getting close to 20 years old. Thanks PeterNewman.
An easy find on the way home from an orienteering event at the Roseworthy campus. For safety I parked about 100m away from the crest and walked back. It was disappointing to see a vehicle had been maneuvered part way up the bank, I hope it wasn't a cacher.
Thanks for the cache Peter, Jeffrey and Michael.

Up North with LiB today...called into Gawler for a bite to eat before heading out of town again...
Travelled along this road as the weather started to turn but still found the cache...
The cache container was brittle and broken...
**Being part of the Geocaching Community I feel we need to try to preserve these old caches...this one being a 2002 cache, I did just that....
It is in a new container, regular size, with new logbooks...
I have placed it on my watchlist to ensure it remains alive...**
If anyone has matchbox cars to place in the container it will revive the original concept

This cache was found on a trip to the Gawler area with FeatherWaite today. Our main aim was to complete the ‘Anna Tommy’ puzzle series, but we also took the opportunity to target some other selected puzzles and multis, and grabbed a few traditionals that we passed along the way.
We had a good day weather wise. Despite the threat of rain, it held off all day for us. We were a bit surprised at just how busy some of the back roads were, with a constant stream of passing traffic. A couple of local farmers also stopped for a chat and to see what we were up to. Apparently there has been quite a lot of theft and illegal dumping out this way of late.
This was one of the opportunistic finds as we passed. The cache container has become very brittle and the lid has completely disintegrated. The container needs replacing.
All in all it was a very productive and enjoyable day out with around 60 finds in total and no DNFs.
Thanks Peter, Jeffrey and Michael for the cache.

With GreyHams we set out on a new adventure, driving from Adelaide to Sydney via broken Hill and Bourke... with side trips in all directions as the caches lead us. Four days with a number of target caches along the way, although shires, oldies and virtuals were our priority with many others of interest too.
From the lush green of South Australia into the dry outback of NSW, contrast, scenic and interesting. With GreyHams trip planning we traveled along easily as he drove and navigated and chattered! Never a dull moment through the stark and barren land which was completely fascinating.
So many odd locations to be seen, as well as emus, kangaroos, birds, a desert horse and so many teeny tiny little goats! So many goats... I did love those goats! The dry and barren made way for more substantial lands as we drove closer towards the end of the trip, the trees returned, the hills and finally those little goats... Yay!
About 2500km, 29 shires, 4 virtuals, a number of oldies and some nice walks and places visited along the way. The locals and little towns memorable, the lands and rivers dry and sad but a great trip as we traveled along from cache to cache.
Thanks for your cache to help guide us through our travels, apologies for the generic log, If I had more to add its below this.
Found the empty container out from tree, log book was close by and lid broken. Have put it back best I can but to keep this oldie going but it really needs a new container which we didn't have with us.

Aquilus1 and I have long been looking at our Project-GC maps and trying to 'finish' NSW, which is our closest real state (we both completed the ACT on our first ever finds). Of course we rarely have long term plans, the best trips just sort of happen without too much notice, but we had been thinking about this trip since halfway through the last one.
This plan was to go from Adelaide to Canberra, via the 'hard to reach' counties at the north/north-west of NSW that we had missed last time. Some research showed flights to Adelaide were cheap (well, using points) but also well timed. Arriving at the start point at 7.30am means you are away with a full days caching in front of you. What really sealed it was the one-way car hire deals from Adelaide to Sydney/Melbourne. Sure, this means we have to catch the bus from Sydney airport, but saving $800 sure has a sweet taste.
Day 1:
After landing in ADL airport we made a swift start grabbing the virtual there, I do so love an airport virtual. From there it was all about Oldies and Counties with a couple of Large caches thrown in for bonus value.... got to love a Large! Soooo many counties in Adelaide, and we grabbed as many as we could without detouring massively... we had a long way to go in 4 days after all. I did quite like the grid layout of Adelaide, it means if you encounter roads that are blocked it was easy to reroute. It was slow going in Adelaide (city caching is always slow) but we eventually made our way out and got to the highway. Almost missed Gawler as we were too busy chatting away, it would have left a large hole in our county maps The Clare valley has such an amount of caches and a bunch of oldies, so it took a bit of time to get through as well. So, so green up this way, it was a pleasant surprise for me. The original plan was to get all the way to Broken Hill today but with so many counties and oldies we only got as far as Peterborough, in the dark amid pouring rain.... and got the last 2 rooms in the last motel in town...close call. This was 'proper' small town and we had dinner at the hotel, as it was the only place open.
Day 2:
OK, we have some time to make up as we are 3 hours down the road from where we though we would be starting this day...luckily my alarm was gentle and right on time. Wow, the countryside looks so, so different to yesterday. Now is proper outback and by the time we got to Yunta it was almost desert, really dramatic stuff, but still populated with the odd random goat. We got to Broken Hill and prioritised the highlights: the mine shaft and the big chair.... the HJ's was a fine lunch as well. From there we left and continued across the scrub of western NSW, through Wilcannia, into Cobar with goats galore in between and finally to Bourke, once again in the dark and rain. Bourke was our original destination for Day 2 and we surprised ourselves at making it this far. Again we got the last 2 rooms in the last motel in town.... and we tried 4!! Really riding our luck.
Day 3:
OK, next services are in Brewarinna which is 180km away, we have fuel for 200... so off we drive into the desert without a second thought. Yep, smart thinking! We did make it of course but it was a close run thing. Rivers out here were very sad to see... mostly just sand with water here and there.... but not much. Bogan river was non-existant, the Barwon a set of pools with nothing in between. We went through Walgett, less said the better. Through Gilgandra on a private new road ending at Mudgee. Motel had heaps of rooms for once!
Day 4:
Last day and all about getting to the airport through the blue mountains grabbing counties on the way. After dropping off the car we ran to the bus where it was waiting and managed to convince the driver to let us on, while I was buying tickets over the phone... all worked out in the end, but yet another example of our fine luck on the trip.
