Thanks Katie w for placing a cache out here. We are on a road trip today finding remote caches for a challenge. Quick find
On a trip with Kiscardi getting some remote caches for a challenge. This is our last one for the day. All good. Thanks Katie w.
Day two caching and seeing the sights of Otago and a bit of Southland with raylnz (big Sis from CH-Ch.) Brilliant day in Lawrence. Good to be out and about before our next self-imposed home detention. tftc

What an unusual name for an area! This was our first cache for the day on our trip from Lawrence to Ranfurly, the long way round.
+ a marble, - nothing.

#10,446. I did a bit of a diversion on my way to Invercargill from Dunedin. Yes its the road less travelled to reach that wondrous southern centre of hospitality and sophistication. The lure of some challenge caches and a virtual cache pulled me away from the main drag and up into the hill country. Making my way to Lawrence now. There are very few caches along this road so had to stop in Bungtown. What an intriguing name. There was a family of swallows roosting on the nearby powerlines. The wind was not as strong down here in the valley floor. The cache was soon located. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks katie w for hiding it here.
On the way back from Alexandra why not go over a piece of road that 3 of us haven't been before. Nice find and in good condition. Thanks to CO for placing these caches in this area.
Found what the hint related to pretty quickly but took a little longer to locate the cache. Had sunk quite a bit, perhaps the stone had pushed it down into the moist soil. Then saw the red lid and managed to sign the log with Flamingo4850. TFTC.
After a hectic week we joined up with friends in a batch at Lake Mahinerangi and just had a much needed, relaxing and mainly unplugged weekend. We'd saved most of the caches in the area onto an offline list, knowing the reception where we were was patchy at the best of times. After a bit of a poke around we managed to unearth the buried cache, it's been almost a year since this wee one was last found. TFTC
Spotted a glimpse of the red lid from through the dirt, and unearthed the treasure that was

A quick easy find of a cache which looked to have narrowly escaped being buried when the road was graded. The interesting installation is one which was once widespread, but are now few and far between. TFTC
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on day 8 of our extended Easter break, today we are travelling from Clyde to Dunedin via Lake Mahinerangi on a beautiful Anzac day.
Out in the boondocks here now. Funny name for a town. TFTC.

WE have just finished Gabriels Gulley walkway. Now its onto Lake Mahinerangi hopefully before dark. A quick stop at Bungtown to snag and tag this one. Cheers. I had a bunk down at Lawrence so we keep rolling along here.
Its Wednesday 24 April and we are off exploring Milburn, Lawrence and Lake Mahinerangi today. Awesome!!
Its another awesome geoventure to Dunedin, with The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby, Jack, Jill and William all along for the trip. Had a wonderful 10 days exploring Dunedin. It was great catching up with local cachers at several events we attended. Lots of walking and driving, with the odd cycle and wave ride to jazz things up. Thanks to all the COs that made this trip a wonderful success. Even managed to bag some lab caches along with wherigos, earth caches and events, with the usual mix taking us to some amazing places..

Having mucked about the Lawrence goldfields, Taybeedragon and I are heading off to try our luck at the goldfields at Waipori. Stopped off to bunk down at Bungtown, just long enough to find a cache.
Taybeedragon and I have an eleven day Easter weekend in Dunedin. Although, let's face it, given that we are from Blenheim and Picton that means two of those days was spent in travelling. In that time we grabbed a smidge over three hundred caches. Not bad, considering the amount of time spent way out on the back roads, on bicycles or canoeing on the water. A few virtuals, larges, letterboxes, earths, wherigos, and even ten lab caches in the haul. An awesome weekend!

Unfortunately no large nuggets were found here today. Its now dark and no light above! TFTC katie w
Thank you for this cache, katie w. a bit of a road trip today, Dunedin to Lawrence & back via a different route.
I drove this road in 1989 when my (then 10yr old) nephew & I came up this way exploring; this is my 1st time back on this segment.

It has been quite a few years since I last drove this bit of road. I had forgotten how much up and down there was. Cache is nicely tucked away and contents dry.
WhTs not to love about a caching trip combined with downsouthinv having to deliver parts for work.
Any excuse is a good one, and time to head off the main road into the wilderness to find us some caches.

At last, a free weekend before the onset of chaos. An early morning phone call...'are you able to take xyz up north to a customer?''
There was no excuse not to, quickly chucked clothes on dragged her outta bed raced into work, got parts, and on the road before 8am.
As we drove, the voice from the passenger seat, piped up and said ' look at all these, aren't we going near here?'
Oooh Goody!! Now it's a fun work trip, might be a long day!!!
A quick park and grab as we made our way to waipori

First noticed the unusual instilation before finding cache wonder if it still works TFTC
Great day out caching in the area, lot of neat caches, and interesting spots. Many Thanks Bitsprayer
We really like these out of the way and historic caches. Perhaps we should have done it at night by lamplight. Great bit of history. Fav. TFTC
Hard to believe that so much activity went on here all those years ago, also an interesting street light. Thanks for the cache katie Pipedream
Heading to Clyde so a wee detour off the main highway to get this one. Nice quick find. TFTC
Another Katie_w cache that will take you to where you honestly have never been to before! And this one had something very odd and out of place for the middle of nowhere. Truly Bizarre! and I don't think anyone is changing the item very often when it oft to get shot out by yobs. The little woman soon had the cache in hand and while she looked at the ladybirds I SL after her. Took the long drive back to the main road and stopped on the hill to pick up a ABC bottle for fundraising. TFTC
Went a bit further off the main trail to grab this wee con and my short cut through what looked like the most direct route ended at a closed gate at the tops of some farm run. The drafting was in full swing so we returned via the Matheson rd crn and looked for another route to take. Took an off-on gravel/sealed way and got to the forestry road. Had only just parked up when a truckie pulled into the side and politely pointed out my car would be in the way of the logger's turn radius. Easily moved up to the GZ and walked to the bridge until he left. Cache was found in good hide at the interesting thing and it was . . . . . . well - guarded - by - several - hibernating . . . . . . . . ladybirds. Tried not to disturb their slumber and SL. Returned the cache and popped the camo carefully back in place. Makes a change from geckos and skinks lol. TFTC Katie_w Thanks for leading me here and half-covering the car in grey mud. (The other half came from Bullock II).
I'm on a 5 day caching trip in the south island. Have a few aims - right now its to up a few specific caches that I need to complete my grid for a challenge - and find some interesting caches on the way 1800km later I can say I've accomplished my aim!
Thought being on this road in the dark on a Saturday night is not what I orignially had planned, it did make it nice and quiet without the constant fear of ebeing muggled....

It's nice to finally be told the origin of this unusual name! Cache all good and dry. Streetlight doesn't seem to have a bulb at the moment, but luckily we were there during daytime.
A quick find. The "unusual installation" is a very old style of streetlight. Seems totally out of place here as there can't be another streetlight for many miles in either direction. I do note though that the bridge close to the light is very new (in fact, I recall coming through here when it was being built and that would have been in the last 10-12 years.) Perhaps before the bridge was built there used to be a ford here? Perhaps the solitary streetlight was to cast some illumination on what might have been a difficult water crossing? Or maybe I'm completely wrong. A nice ride to both this and the CO's other new cache at OPQ Mine further up the road. The gravel road was in good condition (i.e. not too much metal on it) and the little bike was zigging along. Great fun. TFTC.
