CaptainVimes and I have crossed the ditch to attend the Geo Toroa mega in Dunedin and tour around the South Island for two weeks. After taking the bush bashy way in from the bridge, found just a soaked log book and a couple plastic bags. We left a container and logbook that we'd won in the mega trivia to keep this one going. It fits nicely in the hole. Thanks steve7mm08 and happy caching
I've stayed in Westport, and seen the river entrance there, so was cool to find the river source today, found the cache after a quick look around, TFTC
I found the cache easily thanks to the hint. This is a great spot; Ive never been to the source of the Buller before. Its a lovely afternoon here. TFTC. Its now a log in a plastic bag under the hint objects.
I'm staying in St Arnaud for a few nights and after my arrival this afternoon, explored some of the village then went out to check out the start of the Mt Robert walk (which I planned to do tomorrow.) Found this cache on my way back into the village. A nice spot, TFTC!
Had to hunt around as our gps had us at the wrong gz. Not in a container but was in a ziplock bag which was torn. We have replaced the ziplock bag and put a couple more logbook pages in to. We removed the mouldy and soaked logbook and torn bags. Such a beautiful place with such stunning views. We stayed overnight and it was glorious. The DOC campground was so good. TFTC
A bit off on our GPS but obvious location with a rummage around. Cache a bit damp and in a couple of ziplock bags. Thanks
Picking up the fisherspouse from the Buller. Bag looks like it has been nibbled but I didnt have replacement Im afraid. Thank you!
Back up this way visting some of my stop that i msde on my though hike of the Ta and st Arand was a get over night stop to resupply and grab a great meal at the pub .I did promise i woukd be back and here i am .Getting out and about in to the out doors is my happy place so any excuse to go caching. As if I need an excuse aahhh nop I will go rain hail or snow so let's goooo and have as much fun and adventures as possible tomorrow may never come. Life is short. Live life one foot step at a time.Never say" I'm gonna "- Just do it!! Tomorrow may never come just grab Life by the horns Thanks for the hide tftc
Cool place to visit. Found with mumandme and Kimmy+co. Didn't take long to locate the hide. TFTC
Targeted this while down in Nelson for the month hidden — I already have it on the main Jasmer, but not the New Zealand Jasmer — there’s always another challenge! Took me 5 to find the right spot. Was about to donate a spare container from the car when remembered it was a rental without my usual kit. Thanks for the oldie steve7mm08!
Just a couple of finds today, after a couple yesterday. This was the first. Easy find of the container-less, but bagged, log.
Great family walk today and 100% find rate on our caches! That is rare in NZ, so we combined a beautiful walk with a nice geocaching experience, thanks!
spent 6 great weeks in New Zealand with my The start was a bit bumpy (Cyclone Gabrielle) but then it got better and better. We travelled to both islands and discovered a lot. We photographed and filmed many beautiful things, but most of it stayed in our hearts.
Almost everywhere we stopped, a cache was already waiting for us. Most of the caches are well maintained and easy to find.
With mostly very nice weather, we saw a lot of this impressive island. In many places, caches were waiting for us, which were sometimes easy and sometimes difficult to find. This cache was also included and was successfully signed
We puzzled a lot in advance and the tours were well prepared
So this box was also well found.
now I have another on my personal cache card.
many thanks to [^] **steve7mm08** [^] for the effort and the cache and greetings from Germany

We're currently travelling New Zealand in search of adventures. We're exploring the South Island.
This cache was on our list to help complete our month hidden grid. It took a little while to locate, but we were successful in the end. Lots of sandflies and wasps nearby, so fly nets came in handy here.
The container has a hole in it, so may be vulnerable to bad weather.

Staying at the campsite & decided to go a wee cache wander. Sadly could not find this one today.Too many sandflies & a few wasps about.
Maybe another time

We are camped in the nearby campground so I decided to walk down and grab this cache. After reading previous logs I thought I had a good chance of finding.
My gps was leading me to the right side of track which was correct per the logs. I came to where my gps was leading me and not many rocks to search. Then i headed a bit further down and found a lot of rocks. Managed to peer between some rocks and found the bag that contained the log. This could do with a new container.
Thanks for the cache

2724. Took a ride from West Bay camp. Found this one after reading back thru the logs to glean some hints. Log saturated and unable to be signed. Have photo ID proof of find required. TFTC!!!
Fount It after a while. Logbook ist wet.

Was orienteering nearby & stopped here after the event. Like others I got helpful information from previous logs to help with the find. Had read about the mushy paperwork & so left a sheet of waterproof paper. Great to find a cache so old. TFTC
Little one found it after following description from previous logs. Mark is a bit off and everything is soaked and needs replacement. Took a picture for proof
This one gave me a lot of heartache on a previous visit. I was able to gleam a bit of info from the recent finds, so I came back today and found the cx. TFTC.
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked up at the DoC Campsite at West Bay, St Arnaud for a couple of days, exploring in & around the local area … we decided to walk a local walking track to check out the scenery … we thought it would be rude not to check out some caches … found with no issues, signed & replaced … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #2,386 for us.
Hint no longer a help, used previous cache logs to find, wet mess probably been through a flood. Attached pic as can't write on log.
Found. Previous logs helped. No container. Only logs and all sodden. Nearly gave up on our search. Please accept photo of our log
Found it but as previous person said. The log is soaked.
All contents are in a plasric bag rather than container as my proof of find

Found the cache easy enough but unfortunately it is soaking wet and will need attention. Tftc
#10,164. Day 5 of the southern road trip. Infoferret and I decided to travel around the top of the South Island after the Mega event in Auckland at Labour weekend was postponed. Its been a great opportunity to take in the sights and sounds of Canterbury and Westland. After staying overnight in Westport we are making our way today to St Arnaud and Murchison today. The weather has been great so far on the trip. Like an early summer. But this morning its light rain and drizzle. It cleared up for a while near Murchison but the gloom has descended once more in St Arnaud.
After finding the last Ad Lab stage, Infoferret parked close by and stayed in the car to work out where the bonus cache was hidden. I crashed off towards GZ expecting a quick find. Got to the correct spot soon enough but just could not see or find the cache. I couldn't see any place that matched the hint so widened the search area as the sandflies honed in on me and started the process of removing all the blood from my body. Eventually IF wondered why I was taking so long. I called out I wanted to find it as it was a 2002 cache. Suddenly she remembered she had already found it but once at GZ she just couldn't recall any details about where it was hidden. So back to square one again.
I kept looking while she read past logs. My GPS does not have photos on it but she must have seen Streetwalkers photo on her phone so over there she went and pointed out the cache. At that stage she remembered it was hidden by a bum shaped rock. The problem is the rock had cut logs fallen on top of it hiding the view of the cache and the young trees are now 20 years older and much taller. Anyway the log in plastic bag cache was extracted, signed and returned where found. Great to get another oldie located. Thanks steve7mm08 for hiding it here so many years ago. The sauce of the Buller River was admired then back to the car to avoid those cursed sandflies. Be good if a future finder remembered to bring a new container to secure this really old cache.

Took a while to find as gps thoroughly confused. When I did eventually find it, the cache was thoroughly saturated and I was unable to sign the log. Please accept photo of found status. TFTC
Thanks Steve7mm08 - for the cache, I enjoy to pick up these older caches. Please note there is no container only a plastic bag and also after 19 years the young trees are now giants but eventually my phone settled and located the cache easy enough.
Beautiful spot.
Beautiful spot.
#20109. This was on our must-do list for our visit to St Arnaud (it was the 4th oldest South Island cache we had yet to find). The hint didn't narrow things much for us, so we ended up looking under lots of rocks. Got there in the end. Whew! Liked the cache name (once I worked out its sauce). To aid future finders, I've included a photo of Troodles standing close to the cache hiding place-it's in a dip in front of her). TFTC.
Found with StreetWalkerNZ as we made our way from Takaka to St Arnaud on yet another lovely autumn day.
We don't know why we have not looked for this cache on previous visits to the area. Obviously, we hadn't realised how old it is. The cache name suddenly made sense as we walked to GZ - d'oh!
Not a quick find as the trees have obviously grown lots in the nearly 20 years since this cache was placed and the GPSrs struggled a little under the tree canopy. Pleased when SW finally made the find.
To narrow down GZ, look on the right of the track leading down to the lake (if facing the lake). Look on the non lake side of the definite ridge which is near a multi trunked tree. TFTC.

Took about 5 minutes to locate the odd rock. Had a 400ml snap lock container but the logbook(s) wouldn’t fit. Still just a bag. Stopped here as it helps my Jasmer. Tftc
Time to dook the feet in the lake and cool down! And also battle the sandflies..... As MisterAnthony mentioned, no box but log was ok. TFTC
Quick hunt and Ayrshiregirl found the cache, only problem, there is no box, just a plastic zip lock bag. TFTC
Well I could not spot any strange rocks ..they are all strange and have there own personality..the sandflies had there take as did the bush lawyer and matagouri...I looked for ages as for the young beech tree'sabout to give up when KL sniffed it out..it sure deserves its D3 rating...thanks for bringing me here
We ventured down here for an Ad Lab waypoint. This looked doable so in we went. Checked rock after rock with no luck. Looked for young beech but they were everywhere. Had to contend with bush lawyer and multitudes of sandflies. One more look and noticed some rocks NQR. Thanks for the cache challenge
Morning walk, they all oddly shaped rocks to me, had to go wake the hubbie. But I found it.
Thanks steve7mm08 for placing this cache
It was a bit tricky until I spotted the slightly suspicious rocks
No outer container but doubled plastic bags are keeping this one dry.

First Cache found! Thanks to searchSteve for telling us about Geo caching. It was pretty hard to find because the rocks were a bit less suspicious than we expected. It was a fun Cache to find. We kayaked to the start of the buller River and found the cache from there. A mouse has found the old logbook but not the new one. Thanks to whoever put it there. TFTC.
Tara
My first Cache Ever.
Boyd & Clarissa
I found a mouse hole, possibly the one Tara mentioned that ate the bag.

we were staying with nana and grandad for the weekend and we wanted to go for a walk to find some geocaches. I had a great day. Thank you for putting the caches here for us to find
Found this cache today. Took a while in the rain. May not be where hint was taking me but found when I widen the search. No container just a plastic bag.
Having a weekend away in Nelson after a long lockdown Drove up to St Arnaud to enjoy some beautiful scenery and walks. A very cold start but we soon warmed up. Thanks to the COs - We can’t wait to come back TFTC
Having 3 nights away alone up here at the Lake - looking forward to plenty of walks on all the fantastic paths around here.
Today I went to Lake Rotoroa for a look and walk the tracks and a few caches along the way.
I came back to the holiday home around 3 for a snack and relax and then headed back out before it got dark to grab another 4 caches.
This one I have looked for a few times - with no luck - or been muggled and needed to talk my way out of what I was up to. Today it was quiet - and if it wasn't for a wee spoiler photo on someone elses log I would have registered a DNF. Hint wasn't really much help for me today. Yay - I am pleased to have finally signed the log... took the TB too.

I found a new logbook (second to sign) in a bag, nicely hidden but no cache container.
Log was nice and dry but not sure for how much longer, weather depending..

28 December 2019 13:01. 7842. This was the one i came for, as it filled a gap in my NZ JASMER grid.
This took me a while to locate, but a previous photo helped enourmously, and the location is obvious from the right angle. Coordinates 9m out for me today. Logbook was soaked, but I found a replacement logbook and a couple of ziploc bags in the car, so i left those as a replacement, to hopefully keep this going for another couple of years. Tftc.

Away again on another 3 day mission with rustynz and Rebel98, This time Lyttleton, Christchurch, Greymouth, Punakaiki, Blenheim, Picton and Kaikoura are in our targets, mainly to collect the Geotour caches and to have a heap of fun!
We were hoping this might be a quick discovery of this cache, it sure wasn't!! the hint didn't seem to specific and so we searched a wide area, but when I did find it, it would seem the co-ords were accurate. But the sand flies..OMG, I had hundreds on me when I stood still, couldn't wait to get outta there!
Nice to have bagged another oldie cache.

On a caching adventure with a group of Westies (rustynz, rebel98 & gorby)
It was gorby who suggested we come and find this cache. What a challenge it turned out to be. The GPS bounced all over the place, and with previous logs talking about the possibility of two hides, I would be happy just to find one, as this was taking to much time to find.
With the three of us searching, the hint not making sense, was it a tree, was it a bush, was it even a rock?
Eventually after being attacked and feasted on by the sandflies, gorby at last called out he had found it.
A big relief. He had found the version in the plastic bag. We are travelling light, so have no container that we can donate. Hopefully the next finders can bring one?
We took pictures of GZ, and I am sure it will be a hide we will not forget in a hurry
Thanks for the hide steve7mm08 all those years ago

A target cache for today, this one took a while to find. In the end I am not sure what I found. There was no container, but there was a well filled out log book in a split plastic bag. Have read other logs and am not sure there are not two versions of this one out there. TFTC steve7mm08.
Today was St Arnaud.
I had done some caching in St Arnaud before, but it was a little bit on the way somewhere else, or a handful at the end of the day. Today I decided to make it the focus.
A nice day, and successful. Had a good look around town, the lake and some good walking tracks. Only a couple eluded me today, a haul of 27 including an oldie and a virtual before I decided that was enough. Thanks all COs, an enjoyable day.

A planned geocaching trip with specific targets in mind.
1: The final 2 caches to fill my D/T grid
2: The last 5 caches available (all in the South Island) to meet the NZ Jasmer challenge GC4R9Z6
3: Get as many caches as possible in a day (Solo)
I had no timetable and only a vague route (Christchurch - Dunedin- Invercargill). So after 20 days of sleeping in my tent/car I arrived home having traveled 4500km and visited some interesting places. Met some great people. I had found over 650 caches. That was a lot of park. Jump out out. Find cache sign and return. Then on to the next. All this done by myself. Also attended an event and had 2 FTF
Mission 1 and 2 were achieved and I had a best day of 153 caches. All this done by myself.
Day 19 Murchison to Wellington 16 caches collected. This one was on my list but had completed the month earlier in the trip but as I was passing I collected anyway. Nice to collect another old cache. Thank you for the placement.

Had our Sunday free so planned out a trip from Nelson to St Arnaud and back, overall this trip took about 6 hours and we got to adventure far beyond the road. This is one of the 31 caches that we found today.
Had good memories for this cache and surprised to see that we hadn't even logged it after getting all those sandfly bites! TFTC.

My GPS put GZ in the middle of a wide track. Clearly a wrong reading. A quick look around identified an obvious spot about 5 metres south for a reasonably quick find. As mentioned earlier, it is hidden quite deep
Paddle chick and I headed to Mt Robert to get a few caches and was going to go up to Mt R carpark and found the road closed from the bridge so had to change our plans .It took longer than it should have. Thanks for this cache steve7mm08
An interesting twist of events had me driving a van, fully set up for sleeping and camping, so I immediately applied for leave on Friday and looked for a suitable destination. St. Arnaud has been on the cards again for some time, so it was a no brainer to head in this direction!
Of course I had to stop for this one, and I may have just as well camped there, if it was not for all the signs. I spent an enormous amount of time looking for the cache, 1.5 hours to be precise! I had to reapply insect repellent because the news of my presence was soon known to the sandflies near and far and they all came to check me out. I did see a quite likely location at the start, but the description and logs seemed to indicate a 2l sistema, and I definitely did not find one of those in there. After turning over and lifting every single rock I could manage, I have revisited this place again, as that was the only one that could conceivably fit. No, no cache in there. However, I did reach in a bit (read: much) deeper, and then retrieved a sealed but chewed through bag with the logbook!! Interestingly, the logbook started by saying it was a replacement, dated 2007, and contained names and logs until 2015. Then nothing. So I am still not sure where the other cache/logbook is located?! TFTC!!

On a week's walking and caching holiday with trifolia argentea we aimed for 100 caches. Thanks to all cache owners.
Well, we found it, but closer to a pittosporum rather than the trees hinted at! TFTC
Found by our youngest child when we were about to give up (on our second try). Thank you!
After the length of time spent searching for the last cache, it was time for lunch, so we parked up at the new bridge and had some. Once finished we headed back into the trees to find this cache. With a recent find we knew it was there somewhere and it was soon found. Container has been chewed by rats and was wet so we took the lot back to the car and dried it all out. Couldn't revive the logbook so made a new one. Had a smaller container with us that fit nicely into the chewed one so log is now in a dry plastic bag, inside a new dry container, inside the old container. Should last a bit longer now. tftc
A day in the Park whilst Streetgamer is at the gliding club down the road. A lovely spring day and a great opportunity to explore this area.
I was originally planning to park and grab as many as I could today, but the park and the weather is too nice today to rush, so I ended up doing a lesuirely walk from the West Bay car park over to Kerr Bay and back.
An oldy but a goody. I've never walked this part of the park before but it's a nice trip; far quieter here today that in the summer months I'm sure. A few cars heading by towards Mt Robert, but no one bothered by me.
Thanks

This cache was placed in one of the last seven months that we need to complete our NZ jasmer grid. So finding it was one of the reasons for visiting St Arnaud today. Parked nearby and made our way to GZ. it took us quite a while but eventually we spotted the cache. Thanks.
On a hike from the Whisky Falls to Kerr Bay we found many caches. Thank you for hiding and caring!

Wonderful to turn a blue frown into a yellow smilie. We can in 2015 and couldn't find the cache. Today we were fresh and determined and eventually it paid off. The cache is in perfect condition. TFTC.
Well a few months ago I didn't expect to be down this way quite so soon, but after having completed the requirements for the DGSc Challenge my very Good Wife surprised me for my birthday with some tickets from Hamilton to Nelson return so that we together could have a caching weekend. (now those that may know my wife wil understand that the terms caching and weekend wil ever rearly be used in the same sentence).
So of course the weekend was more about sightseeing in the limitied time that we hand and finding the 25 caches that were on my list which mainly included the older caches, earthcaches and large caches. In total we found 30 caches and covered 870kms while enjoying being in afar different environment than we were used to.
So taking the remaining part of the Friday off of work, and arriving in Nelson at 3pm it was a chance to grab the rental car and start by making our way to Reefton where we would spend our first night. The second night was to be spent in Punakaiki, so tonight we head to St Arnuard for a bit of a relax by the lake
This cache being the twenty second of the weekend. With this one being an Oldie it was deffinatly on my radar, great to see these old caches still being maintained after all this time. Next Stop Mt Robert.
Thanks for the cache, Thanks for the placement

During our tour of New Zealand we have picked a few caches. Our experience is that you get closer to the heart of the country as you do this. You see a lot more and it's easier to get in touch with the "lokals". It is unfortunate that we have only logged in at homecoming. But we want to thank especially the caches caregivers. They made our trip much more enjoyable. Thank you very much. We have long sought!!
Back on the road Sunday after a sleepover with Zara to explore more of St Arnaud.
Nigel kept swinging me around here so ended up hunting around this patch of trees beside the lake. Finally spotted a gold thing that looked out of place. A pencil so the cache is close. Found it but its nearly non existent with holes in it. Cheers
