I’m feeling quite disheartened given someone found this yesterday. Walked out to the waterhole but no luck on cache. Could not see any SPOR nor anything at BOT. The grass is almost knee high after recent rains though. Lovely walk though
The road in has finally dried out, such a shame that beaut old relic of the car has gone, happy to put a smiley here

Day 17 of the long road trip from Perth to the Townsville Mega via the southern states and then back to Perth again via the northern part of Australia.
Today was heading south from Hughenden to Longreach to visit the Qantas Founders Museum and then after returning north to Winton.
This cache was found without problems. Log signed and the cache returned as it was found.
Thanks for placing this cache for cachers to find.

I was easy to see here the car had been - it has now been towed away. Now under SPOR. TFTC.
Have replaced this one in the location housing the imprint of the car. Such a great location it would be a shame to see this one go. Happy to delete the found log if the CO would prefer.
It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips. This time the plan is Canberra to Narromine to Cunnamulla to Blackall, a detour via Winton and then swinging back to Charters Towers before the main event in Townsville. Will see if the April rains and flooding detour us!

No joy here for obvious reasons. Did enjoy the ride out here despite the 37 degree heat.
The car the cache was attached to has been taken away. Whole thing needs either replacing or archiving please.
Looks like it was attached to an old vehicle which has recently gone to the crusher and the cache with it.
Hi there generalmanager.
We found your cache **"Pelican - Birthplace of Winton"** today.
We're full time grey nomads, currently avoiding COVID hot spots on our way to QOGM in Cunnamulla. Today we cached around Winton and found 4 caches in a variety of container types and sizes (& DNF'd 0).
Thank you for placing this cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places to visit on our nomadic wander around Australia.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found this cache near where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log are in good shape. It's certainly not a regular sized one though.

After a very frustrating few hours sorting out internet access we where finally locked and loaded. Interesting location. Thank you for the hide.
Was finally able to get away on my 2021 trip up to outback Qld.
The original plan was to go up through NSW but that got changed on the morning of the departure so up through SA it was.
Was very apprehensive about towing the new van up the Birdsville track but my only other option was to stay home.
Well the caravan has made it up the track and after Bedourie, Boulia for the Camel racing and it was time to head to Winton for a couple of days.
Winton is a great place to spend a few days with lots to see and do.
A drive around the old setting of the town and what do you know I came across a Pelican.
Thanks The Outback WayTFTC.

It was dry enough to drive into this one - but that can't be said for all of the roads in this region. Literally a drive-by although we did get out and have a look around. TFTC.
Introducing a crazy unicyclist to the joys of caching. An obvious find on an implement you see lots of out here. TFTC
Love a great fixer upper, NOTE: micro not large. Out and about with MENO76.
Well this journey started about 12 months or more ago, skip 2020 and we find ourselves planning a long overdue road trip. This means one thing ... a cache run would be involved. One or two different routes where planned caches were studied, some more than others (manly puzzle styles), and a plan was hatched.
Total number of caches found, is yet to be determined, could also depend upon my logging them, as those who know me also know my lack of logging or length of time to do so could mean the correct total will never be shown. Still it’s not about the numbers.
Logs have been signed with any one of the following, JABs, FWBs, TasReach, MEMO or TR. Often depended upon who was signing the log book, time of the day, length of the days caching run, sleep deprived state, condition of log book. Penned often in the first available spot (except in the case of new cache), in between other caches names. Hopefully to help extend the life of a log book. The date was not often recorded, again to save room and maybe a little time.
Distance travel is undetermined, basically fly from Hobart to Brisbane, drive northish to Gympie, out through Gayndah, Monto to the Westwood and then term west straight out to longreach, with a part day layover to collect all those 92 solved puzzles. Home is hopefully via Jericho, south through Mexico and into Blackall then down and cross to Roma, Toowoomba Brissie and fly home.
Meeting up with a great family friends of ours to share part of this journey MEMO, the cache name TasReach or TR for short was born, been both Tasmania and Longreach. So wished each cache could have its own story, but in that case I would never finish logging. So I thought a long story was better than a TFTC. But hey thanks for the cache anyway.
JABs.

Heading west to Mount Isa and stopped to grab some caches along the way and this was one of them. Made the detour in to this one and enjoyed reading the history befoe heading to GZ for a quick find.
Once the log was signed all was returned as found.

Quick find. Been to Winton a few times and never been to this spot. Interesting TFTC
Not much time for geocaching as I am road tripping for work from Sydney to Mount Isa... but still try to log few on the way. Arrived to town after sunset and no time for pleasure tomorrow so had to venture out for this one in the complete darkness.
The car being in the light of high beams in the middle of the field gives a pretty cool vibe.
While searching for the cache I almost shoved my face into a little buddy... who probably was taking a nap(Photo). Or are they nocturnal?

Fortunately the track was dry, we could see where the cattle had ploughed the track, not for two wheel drive in the wet. After a bit of scrabbling we found the cache.TFTC
20.5.21 Caz53 what a fascinating history why would anyone establish a town out here?
Took a little while as the signal wasn't good. Finally found, thanks for the cache
Love these caches with a history! Found the cave, took some pics, then checked out the Pelican memorial.
TFTC!

A handy walk. You can see why a guy would think this could be a good area for a town..... If you weren't aware of the flooding potential. Nothing much here now, but a cool monument for the centenary of Winton. Cache easy enough to find. TFTC
We’re normally overseas at this time of the year but COVID has us exploring our own backyard and the Dinosaur Trail in the last week of school holidays .
Too wet for the car and too far to walk for the whinging kids so we disappointedly have this one a miss.
Thanks generalmanager for creating and placing this for us to enjoy.

It’s definitely there. It may not be a regular size, more about the size of a magnetic Eclipse mint tin.
Cache is in really good condition and log is great.
I visited 3 TB.

We did not find it. Looked at old buildings. Looked at old building frame but nothing . Good luck to those after us
Spent a bit of time searching for the size described but soon found the much smaller replacement

A windy day drive from Hughenden to Winton today, and again a very hot day. Setup the caravan switched on the AC and waited til the cool of the afternoon befgore venturing out caching. Not much left of the old township and it shows how quickly nature reclaims the human intervention in nature.

On a family road trip to visit the dinosaur sites and the last town before heading home is Winton. Heading into town from the west having just come from Richmond, we spotted this cache on our approach to town. A quick detour to the historical township site and marker(road conditions very similar to Winton- Richmond Highway), we then returned to the cache location. Kids enjoyed exploring the cache location. A quick look and we had the cache and the logbook in hand. Signed and returned we were on our way to enjoy the hospitality of Winton. Thanks for the cache.
Day 9 of my outback adventure, today travelling from Barcy to Winton and Longreach.
After a few last minute caches to find in Barcaldine, I hit the road to travel further west and planned to find this cache.
I had a battle with a cache in an old wreck back in Barcaldine this morning ... I lost. Imagine my surprise when I turn up here to find another old wreck to battle with!! I won this time.
Log signed, cache replaced as found.
Thanks The Outback Way for the cache and for bringing me to this interesting place.
