WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 146 - Toowoomba Day 2. For my second day in Toowoomba, I wanted to do some of the SSE Enterprise series. First I crossed town to do a set of Labs at Picnic point and try for a couple of caches along the way. Then it was all the way back again to get to the SSE series. I managed to find 20 of them and really enjoyed the sections on the quiet back dirt roads. I spent a quiet afternoon at the van in the Show grounds and cooked dinner. Tomorrow is the drive to Brisbane in time for the GCLogan events.The first few around the airport made me feel very exposed, then there were some on the side of a very busy road, but at least it was possible to get well out of the way. Once I turned onto the side dirt rods, it became a really enjoyable experience despite all the flies. Finally we came down to Toowoomba to get some of this series.Puzzles were solved partly with help of fellow cachers, Today we started collecting them. Mostly we found them within 5 m of our GZ, some were a bit further out. We signed the logs, and added where necessary a new one.TFTC Brother Colin

When Mr SKI first noticed the SSE geoart he immediately recognized the Enterprise. Star Trek was one of his favourite shows as a young person and he is still regularly known to watch re-runs and repeats of the movies. He has even introduced the show to our grandchildren who enjoy it.Solving the puzzles was another matter and took a long time and a lot of effort. Plenty of time was spent during Victoria's long Covid lockdowns!Finally we have made it to Toowoomba and today was the day we set out to find the caches. Having solved some quite some time ago we had to do some recalculations on the run for a few, but we also managed to perform some basic maintenance on a number of others.A long day for us as they were spread more than we had imagined, but we managed to finish just before dark.Well done on a great series.Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache Brother Colin.**SKI Pair****

Our last day finishing off the series. I started working on solving the puzzles in this series a few months ago and left the hard ones until last. As time was fast approaching for our trip out here it was then a bit of a frenzy to get them all solved. With some nudges and a bit more for some of them we arrived with a list of all the caches solved. A grader has been at work at GZ and the broken container was found some distance away and the lid was missing. We placed the container and contents in a large ziplock bag and put it back at GZ. Thanks Brother Colin for each puzzle and cache.

Spent the night in Toowoomba and had a cracking time at the food and wine festival enjoying the hoodoo gurus and other bands. I had a couple of ours in the morning after a scrumptious breakfast near by to pick up a few caches and work towards a challenge cache I have my eyes on back in Brisbane.

Arrived and parked the motor home in a safe spot and made my way quickly to ground zero. It was not long before the cache was in sight and soon in my hand.

Log signed and returned safely to its hiding place. Now off to the next challenge.

Found while on holidays from Mackay with alphag_25. Slight change in the original plans with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast for Easter Friday we started out early to get as many as we could in the SSE Geoart. Caches all logged 7/4/23 however found over today and yesterday. Some lovely back roads travelled, stopped for a picnic on the side of the road where we found some mown grass and had the farmer come out and check us out making sure we hadn’t broken down . All caches found quite quickly, lots of long grass but thankfully not too many people about. TFTC.

Toowoomba weekend time, I headed up halfway through the day to catch up to Dahumbug, Muggle65 and The Green Geckos. We had a big list of caches. Some were top of the list where others were for numbers.
Most of the hide were similar with a lot of long grass and prickles. We found this reasonably quickly. Thank for maintaining and hiding this cache.

We are camped at the showground for a few nights. Plenty of caches for us to choose from.
First up for us is this SSE series as we have solved the puzzles.
Most were relatively quick finds with all in good condition unless stated otherwise.

After many months of discussing a group attack on the SSE with my geocaching friends, we spent hours working on the great puzzles in preparation for a great day out. The day arrived, unfortunately I was not able to join my friends that day, but was lucky enough to attend a local event that evening and met the CO.
Back today with my trusty Geopup to see how many SSE caches I could collect. I had a great time enjoying the beautiful scenery on the lovely country roads. So glad I could get out here and collect them.
Thank you Brother Colin for a terrific series, the effort into putting the art together, creating the puzzles, placing and maintaining these caches is sincerely appreciated. All caches were in great condition after some recent maintenance.

Into the great unknown with _hitam

What a huge day of star trekking across the Oakey landscape. Wrap speed back 12 months and after a successful weekend caching in Stanthorpe, our little group set lasers to stun the enterprise. But too many battles with Klingon's and Romulan’s saw us constantly regrouping to finally get a free weekend to launch an attack. A sip and solve session prior gave us a good jump into the completing the puzzles.

The weekend was set and included an event organised to celebrate the reconstruction of the enterprise. We had allies from all over the countryside to congratulate us on a job well done. We had the captain of the enterprise (Brother Colin), attend the event and who may have been overwhelmed by the attention he received.

The drive around the countryside was spectacular, a little muddy in some spots from the recent rains but it was fantastic to see the area in a green, lush, splendour, add to it the flowering jacarandas, beautiful.

The puzzles and complexity of some was awesome, a very good learning curve for a non-puzzler, lol. Brother Colin explained the hides and I could now see the reasoning to the placements and the thought process behind the whole geoart. We found all the caches and even found some with new logs, thanks to some other cachers on the trails as well.

It was a great weekend with lots of laughs and antics from everyone. Thank you Brother Colin for a splendid piece of art, the unlimited puzzles and headaches and some nice placements. For me it was a very good learning tool as well.

A plan had been put in motion and the almighty team (TripleTurmoil, Simber15, Chamad and myself) beamed onto the StarShip Enterprise to put the the poor bugger back together again, with a bit of tinkering here and there the ship was in tip top shape ready to explore the unknown and to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Thank you Brother Colin for placing and maintaining this wonderful GeoArt for us to enjoy, we had a fabulous time exploring the area.

Having run a 'Sip and Solve' puzzle solving session online last year during lockdown the GeoArt had been on the to do list for a good year. A plan was formed more recently to camp at Oakey over the October long weekend (due to Ekka being postponed) and tackle the art. The call went out to a few others we enjoy travelling with and the solving began! Lots of back and forth between members and we finally had a full set a few days out from the trip.

We met at SSE 6 and formed a plan of attack on the best route to collect the art in a day. The roads were wet and muddy but that isn't going to stop a group of dedicated geocachers on a mission! The rain held off which we were grateful for however chunks of mud were often shaken off shoes before returning to cars and moving on to the next one.

As is always the case when caching with others there were many laughs and a great time had by all. Always a great sense of achievement when you've been working through a project over a number of weeks.

Thankyou for placing and arranging this series for our enjoyment. The fields and flowers were in bloom. Birds a plenty enjoying the roadside water sources. The scenery was refreshing. Always enjoy a taste of the countryside.

Eleven months ago, after a weekend in Stanthorpe, a group of us mentioned the SSE as a geoart goal. After many distractions along the way, we finally had a date. Lots of learning when completing the variety of puzzles, some easy, some a lot more difficult for a beginner solver. With everything solved, we were on our way and ready to meet at Oakey with Chamad, Simber15 and Nayfee.

Lots of mud. So much mud. But all were found and the mission was completed. Thanks Brother Colin for the effort that went in to completing this geoart. We love geoarts because there is a sense of completion.

Solved these during the 2020 lockdown. Today I finally got the opportunity to begin signing the logs.
It was a great drive in the country, quiet roads, cattle horses and sheep to entertain us.
Found all of these that I attempted, some logs were quite full but I also came across som newly replaced logs.

Another bit of space travel conquered. Thanks for this one.

Today, with Adelaidean e.gregory1 travelling through Queensland, I decided to catch up with him in Toowoomba. We had both worked through the *Starship Enterprise* (SSE) puzzles, and so that consumed the majority of the day in finding. Following that power trail, we used our remaining daylight in walking around Mount Peel to collect a few of the interesting cache types and challenge caches. We then had a fast food dinner, and we used the remainder of the evening finding additional challenge caches in north-west Toowoomba around Cotswold Hills and Torrington. An enjoyable yet exhausting day!

A number of these puzzles were enjoyable to complete, as I had seen many of the puzzle solving methods previously, but a few of the higher difficulty puzzles did require some outside help. I had solved many of these in the last few years, and I had prepared to visit Toowoomba in Easter, but that was prior to SA friends turning back during the COVID-19 lockdown.
This SSE series has got to be one of the toughest power trails that I've done. It took e.gregory1 and I a total of 6.75 hr, starting at 09:15, and finding our final cache at around 16:00 hr, but that did include a needed half hour lunch break. The cache locations weren't the most logical (favouring the second or third post in, rather than a corner post, for example), and the caches were just so small, that some required a bit of time hunting. Then there was the trouble of extracting and reinserting the logbook, and use of the waterproof paper took time. Furthermore, as the geoart was over so many sections, it was difficult to get some momentum (although I did enjoy the rest that it provided in between). There were some roadworks in the area that required us to stop/slow a few times, and perhaps they wondered why we made random stops whilst crawling along, but otherwise most of the roads were quiet and allowed us to complete this series in peace.

This was our first find following our lunch stop. After stopping nearby, and making the jog to GZ, we managed to make this cache find reasonably quickly. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks Brother Colin for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

Found on a day out in the Toowoomba area with Davidwazza.

I am currently travelling from Adelaide up to Cairns to meet up with friends later in the month. I’ve got plenty of time to get there so have been taking the opportunity to do a bit of sightseeing and find a few caches along the way.

I was intending to do the SSE geoart series and Davidwazza was also keen so we met up early this morning to tackle it. After a cold morning, the sun came out and it was a perfect day for caching.

Most of the caches in the geoart series were found reasonably quickly and were in reasonable condition, although most of the logbooks were full.

Easter trip away (in the hopes of getting into Qld) with fitzy_1965 for the cacheQLD Dayboro Mega.

Up early to head over the border thanks to the Qld Premier. Headed through Warwick to Toowoomba then onto the Mega site in Dayboro.....a long 14hour day.

Met up with nibletricecakes & GLISS! to do the SSE series and singed logs as MiNiFiG!s to save space.

Nice quick find unless otherwise stated.

23,903. Found with minniek on our Dayboro QLD MEGA Adventure trip. For this series we also cached with Nibletricecakes and GLISS! to form and sign as MiNiFiGS!

With the sudden COVID outbreak in Queensland putting the Mega in doubt we decided to head up to the New South Wales / Queensland border and see what happens, while developing a Plan B (Longreach region) and a Plan C (New South Wales counties loop) ! Day 3. With the announcement that things were mostly returning to normal we decided Plan A still looked good. An early start today with an aim of caching our way through some counties and catching up with some caching friends to do the Star Ship Enterprise series, then head to Dayboro to set up camp. This was the next stop for the day. Finally started on the long anticipated Star Ship Enterprise series as Team MiNiFiGS! All finds were made nice and quickly without problems unless otherwise mentioned. We parked nearby this one for a quick find at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, then headed off to the next one.

Cactus attack!!

Signed today as MINIFIG! as I teamed up with GLISS! Minniek and Fitzy_1965 to tackle the SSE. Great to be finally in Queensland with our eyes on the Mega Prize.
This is the first Mega we have had in Australia in over a year. We have navigated lockdowns, mouse plagues, floods and the dreaded Covid to get here. Great to be able to be out caching in Queensland. Such a privilege. Thanks for the cache.

Day 2 of a run around this series with LuckyL10n. Started early and had the last 65 caches in the series in the bag in just over 4 hours. Lots of back roads travel, lots of tall grass walked through, but most importantly, all caches were found.

#10713 - 11:45:00 AM; Day four of a road trip with Sol de lune as we head north for the CacheQLD - Dayboro Mega. We had to spend an unscheduled night in Goondawindi due to road closures caused by flooding, but finally reached the Starship Enterprise trail and made a start yesterday afternoon. After a night spent in nearby Oakey, we learned that many businesses refer to champion horse Bernborough in their names! Heading out early this morning, we managed to collect the remaining caches ion the series. Most caches were located and signed without incident, although a couple took a little longer. 100 Puzzles in a day - the final frontier. To boldly go where no Prime has gone before. They say Resistance is futile, so here we are - Fangsoki, 1MinnieMoo, Crew153 and myself. Noone wearing a red shirt. The SSE series has been on the collective radar for some time, and with group effort the Starship was exploded on our maps, and a trajectory was calculated through which it could be repaired again. Today is a a good day to cache!

Gentle cache owner, please forgive my generic log

Pprime, Crew 153, 1MinnieMoo and I undertook to get a large amount of caches in one day. We did this in the the Toowoomba region - starting with Brother Colin's SSE series. After returning to Brisbane, 1MinnieMoo and I continued to find caches until late.

We enjoyed all the caches and appreciate the effort of creating and maintaining the various finds we made. TFTC

A decision was made that today Fangsoki, PPrime, Crew153 and I would head out to grab the SSE caches and in doing so get at least 100 caches in the day. Well this betters any previous day’s caching count by far, as my best was 36. So, at some unhealthy hour of the morning, the alarm went off, followed very quickly afterwards by a message from PPrime to say he was on his way - 15 minutes ahead of scheduled time. Well that got us up and moving fast!
But on our way we soon were. A short while later we had collected Crew153, and after a bit more of a drive we began our day. It didn’t take long at all for us to start racking up our numbers, and despite a few DNFs our day ran rather smoothly overall. And somehow we all ended up in fairly good spirits still at the end of the day.

A late decision last week was made for an attempt to complete the SSE in one day.. Fangsoki, Pprime, 1MinnieMoo and I headed off and found the first cache just before 7am and had searched for all the caches by 1pm and then decided to find a few more caches around Toowoomba before heading home.

This week I'm staying in Toowoomba for a few days. Today my plan was to find as many of the SSE series caches as I could (for the puzzles that I had solved). This trip has been planned for a while so over a period of time, I solved as many of the puzzles as I could. I went over some of them 3 or 4 times before the solution finally clicked. Others had me stumped until it was too late to try and solve them. Anyway, I had a great time today criss-crossing the countryside chasing cache containers. Most of the caches were easy finds - being fairly similar style hides. Apologies for the cut and paste logs. I'll try to add anything that stood out for me. Love the geoart. The classic Star Trek series and movies are great, although I haven't really gotten into some of the more recent iterations of it. Thanks for all the effort that has gone into setting up and maintaining all these caches. A good sized cache here. Dropped in a trackable.

Today we tackled the Starship Enterprise Geo-Art series with Gullivers Travels54, signed the log with our initials.

We had a great day out as the caches took us down country roads that we have not traversed before.

On a mission to locate the space ship geoart whilst staying the area. An early start and a very full on day but we completed it with Tassie Trekkers. TFTC Took trackable.

TFTC. Day 2 of our mission to complete the Starship Enterprise. We planned a route that would eliminate as much backtracking as possible. As we usually do we start at the furthest point and work our way back to home base. The day was overcast and a pleasant temperature to explore the back blocks. Again co-ordinates were excellent and caches were easy to find. We had an issue at #28 with a new fence in place and a series of 4 caches near the airport. A good day with 45 finds and 5 DNFs

It’s been a long time coming but today i was working out near Cecil Plains so it was the perfect opportunity to grab those puzzles i have solved over the past year or so. WillPunkey was with me today because he was too sick to go to school. Thanks Brother Colin and all the puzzle makers.

This was our last of the day. number 15. a good one to finish on. Just after we stopped a car pulled out of the house down this driveway. I started taking pictures with my phone of the view in case they stopped and asked why i was here. They kept on driving so we then retrieved the cache. I took the TBs and left one TB

Finally got around to finding some of the SSE Series. The Geo Dawg and I were out today in the company of Miss Direction rolling them up. Not only found caches but also wildlife lots of farm machinery and a great bunch of back roads.

We had been gradually solving the various puzzles for this cache series over the past few years, mostly with success but occasionally needing a push in the right direction from various friends Finally, the planets aligned and we were able to organise a weekend away in Toowoomba to coincide with a local event

Generally, we found all co-ordinates very accurate and the caches easily found [^] with just the one case of cache blindness and two instances of fumble fingers entering co-ordinates [xx(] requiring a recalculation for the correct ground zero.

Waking up and on the hunt, we had 19 geocaches to find to crack our 1000th geocache and a certain awesome geocacher was hosting an event.. why not make our 1000th an event and share it with friends!

Up in the Toowoomba area just for this great geoart. Had solved all the puzzles when they first came out in fact I can remember solving some at an airport waiting for our flight to Norfolk Island and while on holidays, still looking at them. This has been our first chance to find them as we volunteered to pick up our son’s car in Brisbane and bring it back to Hobart (via Toowoomba, which is where our son was born).

Great place for a cache with easy parking and a nice size container. Loving our drive around on this hot day.

The SSE series has sat in our solved file for far too long. Due to happenings last year our return trip to Queensland needed to be postponed for over six months. But return we have, and as we were in the area with nearly a full day to spare we collected a fellow Victorian and headed out to show them some of the back roads around Toowoomba and collect as many of these caches as possible.

All the containers bar three where bison's, the other three were larger than a bison, and they created excitement just because they were larger. At number 32 we did encounter a snake that was less than happy to be disturbed, even wanting to make a dash at another car that when by. A fun time was had and loads of cache chatting was done.

Some early morning messaging and a phone call soon had me driving to some coordinates to meet up with muff1. The SSE series were in the solved pile so it seemed a good day to head out and find some. We had a great day with excellent company and accurate coordinates. Thanks for all your work in setting up this challenging series Brother Colin

We completed the Starship Enterprise while visiting friends in Toowoomba. This mammoth of series took us a few weeks of solving and 2 days of finding. Most caches were found without a problem and were signed 'Mr E'.

Our journey has started, Team DrB are going to get lots of smilies at the end and what I find interesting is that I have been on some of these roads previously but not sure why. Thanks for a great tour of the country side. TFTC

Away on a small caching trip with Diamonjs and bobbiesgirl to tackle Brother Colins spaceship. Normally I am the one getting in and out to find the caches but this time I am the driver as I had hurt myself the week leading up to this run. Boy did I have fun being the driver. Had solved these puzzles quite some time ago and when DiamonJs and rusty85 invited me along to do the series I jumped at the opportunity. Thoroughly enjoyed the variety of puzzles and the whole journey. The copy and paste nature of my logs in no way detracts from my enjoyment and appreciation of the mammoth effort involved in putting out a series like this. A big thank you Brother Colin. We found your cache **"SSE #27"** today. (This makes our find count 19528).

Today we boldly cached the Starship Enterprise series. Once all the answer in hand it was difficult to decide which route to take so that back tracking was kept to a minimum. Plan "A" worked for a while. Then we discovered a fat finger error in one of the coordinate entries that led us cross country down a 4WD track - so we had to resort to plan "B", and then finally "C".

We found 50 caches today (DNF'd 2), and were pleasantly surprised at the accuracy of the coordinates. Throughout the day we followed the arrow to each cache and let the GPS settle while we signed the log - - it was extremely rare to see a distance of more than 3 metres when we picked it up again. Thanks for placing these caches here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting back roads on our travels.

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found each cache around 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** All containers and logs are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** A Smiley Badge if the cache was big enough.

Life has gotten in the way recently and caching outings have been scarce. To gather up the souvenirs on offer at the moment, some numbers were needed and the Star Ship Enterprise Series, which has been on the Bromance radar for a while, seemed perfect.

Most of the hard work solving the puzzles had completed a long time ago, but in the end motivation to finish off solving a couple of nastier puzzles (stab fork into thigh type frustrating puzzles) was lacking. KeepingUpWith decided to join Seffnjarah, Swellerfungus and I for the day and he was quickly tasked with solving these remaining puzzles.

A trademark early start in Brisbane found us caffeinated and fed at the first cache just before a very frosty 0700. SeffnJarah had calculated the most efficient route which avoided backtracking. The highlight of the day involved the ever clumsy Swellerfungus and an electric fence.

Accompanied by Crookedpete, Swellerfungus and the resident brainiac Keepingupwith (who was tasked with polishing off those stubborn puzzles that just refused to reveal an answer for the rest of us), we hit the road for Toowoomba on a chilly winter's morning to complete the SSE puzzle series. Winding our way along the country roads, we took turns grabbing the caches (some more successfully than others) depending on which side of the car the hide was on. No problems with this one and dropped off a trackable for the next visitor. TFTC

When this series was just a twinkle in the CO's eyes I was lucky enough to be asked to help create a few of the puzzles that would be part of something big. Unfortunately i was very busy with work at the time, and was only able to help out with a few. Since publication, I have enjoyed some of the distress felt by those trying to solve them! Eventually it was my turn to feel that pain, as I worked through puzzles ranging from mostly easy to ridiculously impossible. To all the CO's I take of my hat to you as makers of something very special!

Today saw a misfit bunch of a crew heading of in the SS Victor Del Prado across the Aubigny galaxy including a Vulcan(seffnjarah), Kling-on (CrookedPete), a 'data' droid (Keepingupwith) and the illustrious Kirk-like humanoid captain (Me).

We set off in the dark from the Sumner Park Space Station, stopping for a refuel in the newly opened Withcott Space Dock (told to have had an unusual mix of space creatures) and headed out into the unknown. One by one our objectives were uncovered and dealt with, and eventually we had finished victorious.

*Star date SSE#27.* The mission into Enterprise System went we extremely well with the heroic KUW displaying cunning, wit, relentless determination and a little bit of flatulence to secure a brilliant find on a unique and challenging hide. Tin’atlhqam and Crooked Ship Engineers Pete also seem to have contributed in some vague way.

I have solved this GeoArt puzzles many months ago with the help of friendly and helpful cachers who I am very thankful for. Really enjoyed solving them while very much challenged. So happy to exercise my brain.

We had solved the puzzles - in parts then completely not too long ago and decided to try to do the whole series in one day —today. With E(: and Patrol 14 went on a mission and we were successful! A cold windy day... but a nice clear one as well... Thanks for the cache and SSE series, Brother Colin!!

With the puzzles solved, E(:, NeversayDi and patrol14 teamed up to find the SSE series of caches past Toowoomba.
An early day with a start time of 8am, we started at Wellcamp and worked out way around until we were nearly back to the start.
What a beautiful day even if the temperature was only 4deg when we started. The wind kept the temperature on the chilly side.
Great lot of different puzzles which certainly worked out our grey cells and the location was fabulous.
Caches were easy to find and in good condition.

A group attack was planned for Brother Colin's SSE series of caches this weekend with me providing the transport and Zacgyver working out the puzzles ably assisted by La Kedi. Last few for the day before heading back to town for a well earned dinner. TFTC

A week ago I mentioned to La Kedi that I had that night started looking at the SSE puzzles and she suggested we go up to Toowoomba the next weekend and get these to fulfill the Hidden Creatures souvenirs challenge in one go. The deal was I solve the puzzles and she would provide the transport and accommodation. That is fine by me, I can solve just over 100 puzzles in a week right? Sure...
By this morning I had solved about 75 and had around 10 half solved. La Kedi solved a few last night. Bulldozer72 drove us around today as we collected the caches.
I have some limited experience in the deep dark history of my past. Google is my friend.
Tonight is the time to finish the puzzles for tomorrow and hope we can complete the Enterprise.

A quick find in the dark and a nice safe spot to park.

In Toowoomba with Zacgyver and bulldozer 72 for an enterprising attempt to catch hidden creatures. Zac was the brains, bulldozer was the brawn: and I was keeping them in check. ’Twas a crisp Darling Downs day but perfect for geocaching. TFTC, Brother Colin. =^.^=

Today’ mission – to sign the log of all the puzzles I have managed to complete (some on my own, some with a gentle nudge in the right direction and some with a big shove in the right direction!) Secondary mission to gain hidden creature souvenirs.

After lots of puzzle solving, head scratching and help from various allies we decided to stay over in Toowoomba and start this series on our way to the BRB in July 2918. Puzzles are not our strong point. But we do like the jigsaw and word puzzle type! We are happy to finally log this cache and thank anyone that may have helped us on our journey.
