#4204 Today is day 34 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. Today, I made a detour to The Longest Place Name in The World on my way to Napier. This was also my main goal of the day. Found it! The coordinates were spot on. Got fooled by a previous log and dug out the wrong coordinates. I was wandering around the wrong spot in the cold and decided to give the CO some faith. And then, I spotted the cache right away.Wobbie, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on November 3, 2024 @ 17:27:13[GC745A0] Otane Sports Ground was a D2.0/T1.5 Other Traditional Cache at the time of finding.

Returning from a teaching stint in Gizzy. Yay I found it this time, after having it elude me last time I was looking. Again, beautiful gates and would be awesome to see them restored to their former beauty. Mihi ki a koe mo te keteroki #412

I spent some time looking where my GPS suggested it was without any luck. I resorted to using a set of coordinates posted in a previous log and soon spotted something a little out of place. TFTC

Found with Indiana Jill. Nice shady park. Lovely gates! TFTC

It's December, and to help me achieve one of my Geocaching goals I need to log 300+ caches this month, which means an average of ten a day. I started off well, but had a glitch in the middle which has left me behind on my target. Yesterday I left home heading towards Hawkes Bay, to see a band play, and had a good days caching in the Wairarapa. Today as I head off to finish part one of this trip I need only 56 more finds to reach my goal. I have a list of caches to look for, and this was one of them. An excellent hide here. I think I've found a cache at this sports ground before but can't for the life of me remember it. --- Thanks to Wobbie for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues. Nicely hidden. Lovely old gates, it's a pity they haven't been better looked after by the community.

Starting the drive home, from this long weekend adlabbing in Hawke's Bay. I've been here before! How old is this cache? Yep, It was here when I was last here, in 2021. I didn't log DNF. Oops. Turns out it wasn't that hard. I must have been having an off day. Made up for it now though

After attending the Rod Stewart concert last night, today we are making our way south to Dannevirke with a few stops along the way.
As we pulled into the Otane Sports Ground we were sure that we had been there once before. We later remembered the PWGT cache that had been nearby.
We parked up and followed our phone GPS to GZ where the nicely hidden Otane Sports Ground cache was soon spotted. Thanks.
Before driving here we had stopped at the Heritage Walk cache but had been unable to search for that because of a large number of people attending a market around GZ.

A quick detour to here after Infoferret checked the site of her PWGT cache.

Infoferret has a few days of leave to use up and asked if I would like to accompany her on a jaunt to Napier. How could I say no???

Kia ora rawa atu for the cache Wobbie.

With the Geotour coming to and end soon Yvettetb and I decided to go on a road trip to collect Tahi and Rua. Of course I had some puzzles at various places to collect and a few special types were added to the list too.

This was day 10. We travelled from Waipukurau, to Napier and then on to Taupo today. This was one we collected as there were only 3 caches in the town so we grabbed them all. It was great that the town unanimously decided to purchase the sports field. Thanks for the effort you put into the hide here Smile

Our North Island Roadtrip from Whangarei to complete Tahi & Rua of the NZ Geotour - Day Ten.

Added this one to our list as it was near one of the geotour caches. A great hide and was quickly found. TFGC

Picked this up while stopped here for the geo tour cache. One local who befriended me this morning was amazed. He had meet another cacher a couple of months ago. Maybe we will have a new cacher from Otane

01-Dec-22
On a mission to do PWGT 2 caches in full and maybe some of Tahi ones too in the time I’ve allowed myself. There will also be some extras along the way to to make break the journey

Quick find here before I went for the Tour cache. Interesting hide

22-Nov-22
Up from Southland with muggly hubby to revisit some old haunts and discover new places. Taking a leisurely trip and the caching goal is to complete PWGT2.
This is Day 10 on the road (I think!) .
With so few caches in Otane, and only 2 more PWGT ones for the day I though I should turn Otane into smilies.
This was a quick find and I soon had the cache signed and returned.
Thanks for the cache Wobbie

I'm sure I was here in the distant past, but didn't score a find. With the recent OM, I removed any doubt about the cx being missing. After a methodical search pattern, I eventually came to the cx. TFTC.

Very clever, takes a bit of thinking!!

In the area so called in for this popular cache. Alongside and searching and spotted a thing of interest. Recognized the hide style from my home town of Marton, thanks Wobbie.

After a whistle-stop previous visit to todays route back in April, I had a whole day to myself and some blue-sky/bluebird weather which is a departure from the more recent downpours. Todays target was a few more in Woodville, some more local PWGT Geotour caches and make a start on the cache highway (52) between back blocks of Waipukurau and Wairarapa (only as far as Weber today). My highest find total for many months, almost all targets met and a nice drive along some fairly quiet roads and around 450kms traveled! The road between Wimbledon was atrocious, slumps, holes, dips and side of road fallen away, but driveable I suppose. Thanks to all COs for their hides to make my day enjoyable.

Third time lucky. With this one. Had gone round circles with it previously. The. Co-ords in thee logs are a bit off, so it took me a bit longer to track down. The thing that lead me to cache came when I thought about what healed things together and found something out of place. TFTC + FAV for the hind

I thought I knew what I was looking for with the readjusted coordinates but couldn't spot the cache after a few rounds. I needed to give up when a dog walker stopped and stared at me - time to move on I reckon.

after reading a few other logs I was ready for a bit of searching but after a slow stroll I put my hand on the cache only after a few minutes.

I have Kelly0 to thank as she was often finds these caches for me - so I channeled her mind and tada!

Used huhugrub's coordinates to help track this clever cache down.

Found on a road trip around the central North Island, targeting Geotour caches. More when I get home. TFTC

After finding a nearby cache we stopped at this expecting a quick find, I even hoped out and left the engine running thinking we would be underway again soon after. That was quite the wrong assumption and after about 5 minutes Mrs B wandered over to see what I was up to. Lots of places to look here and I did focus on the right place for a time but missed it first time round. After another 5 minutes with 2 sets of eyes we finally managed to find this very well hidden cache. FP given for a nice hide and the extra effort here. TFTC.

#12,362. Thought this might be a short park and grab on Rochfort Street in Ōtāne. Fortunately, GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. But this one took a quite bit of searching and widening the area. Eventually found it cleverly hidden about 16 metres away. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Favorite point added.

Thanks for the placement, and for bringing us to this site, and …

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)... Easter weekend is upon us. We’ve been looking forward to this holiday - it’s a chance to take a big swipe at the PWGT2 caches. We’re also keen to pick off some interesting hides and avenge one or two previous DNFs...

There was a game in progress on the field... We paced back and forth and then some. Without any clues, we began a more systematic approach. Something didn’t look right... Nice hide! Thanks Wobbie and TFTC.

Having left the snail shell in Dannevirke I was off in the tow truck turned cachemobile to locate and sign some PWGT caches and any others that get in my way.

This is one of the others. Loved the camo here. Gave it a fave.

Cheers for the cache.

Felt a bit exposed looking for this one with houses across the road. However there didn't seem to be anyone about and when I told Talla64 where my GPS was pointing he walked up and had the log in hand in no time. Thanks for setting up this sneaky cache Wobbie.

With Flowerydaze on a trip to Napier with our wine club and this one was on the list. A lovely day for caching and a great container. We were going around in circles almost due to GPS fluctuations but when FD said her GPS was pointing here, wala, soon had it in hand. FP from me, thanks Wobbie.

Last one here, so we make it a quick find and we head off to the cafe for some sustenance. I can see RG starting to flag. Tricky little hide, but all good. I guess we have cached out Ōtāne! TFTC Wobbie. FP from me.

We are coming to the end of our little North Island road trip. Today was Napier to Greytown, and tomorrow will be the ferry home. We have enjoyed every moment of it, especially the cool little towns we have visited that we didn’t know much about. So many of them have hidden gems and nice character. Today’s highlights were the Hasting Sunday Farmers Market, a smaller (but also quite cool) little market in Ōtāne, and a bit of Viking carry on in Norsewood. In between, a few caches. But with so much ground to travel and the prospect of enjoying a sunny evening in Greytown looming, we got a few here and there, not far from the main road. Thanks all COs, no DNFs today and all caches in good shape. All caches signed RG1972 and ricardinho, or ric.nz if space was at a premium.

Geo-dog and I were homeward bound to the Wairarapa after a few days exploring the beaches and backroads of Hawkes Bay for a few days. We stopped in here to have a lunch break (& a pee for the dog), before starting a cache hunt. The area was wonderfully quiet, apart from the noise of traffic out on SH2, so searching was done casually without rushing. I had checked a number of possible locations and then, just as I spotted a likely bit of camo, something caught my eye across the road. Looking up I initially thought I was being watched by one of the locals, but was relieved when I realised it was just a fancy scarecrow with its wig blowing in the wind. I immediately went back to my search and came up with a smiley. Nice work on this cache and it blends in perfectly, even after this long. Log in great, dry condition. TFTC and a Fav point from me.

Frustrating, but happy to read logs showing others have had to search more than once. We will be back!

We are on our summer holiday, we usually take a few weeks and travel around the South Island, but this year we are heading around the North Island. Heading up the West coast and back down the East coast. Finding only a select few caches along the way, we are mostly targeting some challenges we have qualified for, some large size caches, some that fill gaps in our date placed grid, a few D/T combinations, some with lots of favourite points, letterboxes and anything else that grabs our fancy.

I had a fall on day two of our holiday, while out geocaching which has resulted in a fractured bone in my leg and I am in a moon boot and with crutches and I was told to keep weight off my leg. So I am only limited use when it comes to our trip now. I tend to stay in the campervan and just hand out suggestions of when and where GK should search.

One of the things I love about geocaching is learning little snippets of history and going to places that I would not otherwise go to. I got a double whammy here as well as a tricky wee hide

Thanks for placing this cache and thank you for the smiley.

I decided to use the opportunity of having a quiet few days off work over Xmas to drive over to the Hawkes Bay in order to be a cacher in that region for the first time.

There was absolutely no-one around today so I was able to conduct my search in relative ease. This one had me scratching my head for a while. I can see why so many people take more than one visit to make the find, as it was for me too. Came here this morning on my way heading east, and then again on my way home westwards when I finally found it having exercised my PAF option in between times.
On opening the container, there was nothing untoward found with the log, which was signed before the whole lot was replaced back where I found it.

Thanks for setting this cache up, and I wish you a happy and prosperous 2021 Smile
FP given in recognition of the clever hide.

I finally found this cache Yeh ! it just looks so natural i even had my hand on it several times but finally some thing said "do......" and yes that worked and the cache was in hand. It certainly does deserve a fav point from me

4 October 2020 10:28 AM. This was unfinished business from when we came here on QB weekend and we had to abandon the search wet, tired, and dejected. Today's weather was much more amenable for a lengthy search (which it needed) before GSEL brought his skills to bear and searched somewhere I hadn't looked at properly. Tftc, really glad to have this treasure located.

#8463. After two days of caching in the Wairarapa and southern Hawkes Bay it was time for Infoferret and I to head back to Wellington. But its a geocaching road trip so its going to be the long and winding road home (literally). We stopped here on a glorious sunny and warm Hawkes Bay morning. We had both been here previously to search for the cache but on QBW it was sheeting down with rain. Today in the sunshine we looked more carefully. Noticed the damage to the metal gate (been hit by a car locked inside I suspect). I finally checked a different area and noticed something that matched the hint and soon had the cache in hand. Signed the logbook and returned it to the container. Thanks Wobbie for a cleverly constructed cache in a nice parkland setting.

Being aware of some recent DNFs, I thought I could be in for a lengthy, and possibly unsuccessful, search. However, my GPSr and I were in fine form and the clever cache was soon found.
