I have completed the questions and contacted the CO of this earthcache. We used to come here a lot over 40 years ago, prawning with a long net. You had to be careful where you put your feet with fortescue fish around, and I hate to think how much damage hauling the nets did then to the lake floor. There was good bream fishing too in some of the feeder creeks. The sand barrier is very impressive and must hold back a huge amount of water. Thanks to NationalSteel for bringing us to this interesting place, full of memories for us.

This was the final cache from our weekend trip to the south coast. I really enjoyed this one as the sand bar is quite impressive. It must be quite a site when it is open!! TFTC

Thanks for this interesting place and the informations behind. Tftec says Das Ahr-Team

Nice spot and with a lot of sand build up it is completely closed off at the moment making it great for prawning. So I did and my light went out when in the middle of the lake. It's a long slow walk back to shore in the pitch black not knowing if you will step into a deep hole at any second. Made it back undrowned, then the walk of shame with no light back to the vehicle.TFTCIronbark

Day 13 of our 2 week road trip south from Brisbane. After overcoming floods, a bogged car and vehicle electrical issues, we finally reached Canberra to spend a few days with relatives before continuing south for a loop around the Snowy Mountains. From there we headed towards Eden to commence the run north towards home following along the coastline.

After staying the night in Mollymook I headed out early this morning to visit a couple of local earth caches before moving on to a stroll around the One Track For All. Continuing our journey north I called in for a visit to this earth cache. We've visited a couple of other lakes with sand barriers over the last few days but this is the first one we found to be open and flowing into the sea. Another great spot along the coast. TFTC

Another great earth cache. Lots of information about the area. It was open when we saw it then we went for a nice walk along the beach. What a difference in sand colour to Jervis Bay beaches. Such a nice little town.

Not a good day for swimming but a nice spot none the less. TFTEC.

30-Nov-21
After doing the special for the Illawarra air show and with not a lot of work around due to covid we decided to spend a few days on the coast picking up lab caches and anything else that popped up on screen.

As we both enjoy earth caches a slight detour was in order to check this one out and we are certainly glad that we did. Not only was this an interesting earth cache but it was also a very scenic location. We enjoyed learning about this area and tried to imagine what it would be like in the reverse of what it was today. We collected the required information which ahs been sent off to the CO and if it is not good enough we will happily delete this log.

Many thanks National STeel for setting up this earth cache and bringing us here, a favourite point from us.

# 7414 Staying in Huskisson for an extended weekend. The weather hasn't been great, but there have been periods when it has been ok. Today I was flying solo, so I headed up to Culburra beach. Some great locations and interesting caches.
Thanks NationalSteel

This was another interesting location we visited while in the area based on the earth cache highlighting it. Loved the simple straight forward information required... no geology degree required to answer yet strangely still interesting and learnt something too! Funny about that!

Thanks for the EC.

Just happens a Buff-breasted Sandpiper has been at lake wollumboola for the last week so thought I would have a crack today (one I don’t have on my list). Before I started I did this earthcache - have been here a few times (including banding Little Terns) so the answers were quickly found. Quick response from CO so cache now being logged.

No luck with the Sandpiper, but did see some good birds

After not making it here earlier in the day, I found time to do this EarthCache late in the afternoon while waiting for a restaurant to open. Great to get a nice view of this interesting feature from the platform and also to read about the great conservation work being done with the little terns.

Our weekend away was totally dictated by caching hides.
Fortunately there were great spots to be seen and this was no exception.
Thanks again

Out for the day to chase up find number 2000 and thought I'd pick up most of what I needed in the Culburra Beach and Nowra areas. This was seventh on the day. Unfortunately the weather at this point began to show hostility toward our day's activities and certainly put a damper on our appreciation of the area but we would not be deterred. We gathered the needed information and will send the solutions to the CO in short order. Thanks for bringing us to the area and giving us more to ponder about the world we live in. TFTC.

Hadn’t planned to include any earthcaches on today’s run around Culburra and Orient Point but this one was on the way and easy enough to tick off. Answered the questions from the indicated WPs (sent to CO) and gained an extra lesson from a local making the journey with me today. Thanks to NationalSteel and Bonfire for bringing me here.

I'm a regular visitor to Culburra Beach but have been saving this one until the tourist thinned out and I had some time to spare, it's also moved to the top of my unfound caches list!
Interesting reading about the opening of the channel. If the surf is pumping from a certain direction then the lake will mysteriously open in the middle of the night. Then this carpark will be full. TFTC National Steel

Used to be a very frequent visitor to the lake (3 or 4 times a week) for work, but its been years since I last visited - not much has changed though, except for the water level. Thanks for the cache NationalSteel

Find Number 1278

I visited the site a couple of days ago, but have only just completed my duties of sending the answers to the CO.

It is very different here from Burrill lake, another ofthese coastal lakes, since Burrill is usually open and this one is usually closed. There wasn't any sulphur dioxide smell, but I can imagine how it might be when the smell is bad.

A most interesting earthcache. Thanks for putting out there for us to find. Worth an FP from me.

Another fine day out with my caching mates Hoojar and The Rats.

We tackled the Currarong headland first, then Callala Bay before light defeated us back in Nowra. Some great bushland and then bay environments during our travels. And some well constructed hides.

Bit of a generic log for most but TFTC!

22-Jun-17
Hoojar, stteba and the Rats heading for days catch-up and caching before we head away for a few months holiday. Today we chose to head down south towards Nowra and surrounding suburbs where a plethora of caches had sprung up since my last time down this way. The day started well before sun up and we werestill going after dark.

An interesting EC and part of a fun day's caching.

Thanks to all the cache owners to whom we found your cache today. Apologises for the generic log but it doesn't detract from the fun day we had exploring the Shoalhaven.

With The Rats soon to be headed North for a few months, it was decided that we needed to squeeze in one more caching day together before his departure. And so it was that Steeba, The Rats and I found ourselves headed to the northern parts of Jervis Bay for a most excellent day of caching. The weather was perfect, the caches enjoyable, and the company stimulating.

We did a lot of walking, a lot of scrambling, and a lot of caching as we made our way from cache to cache.

Thank you to all of the cache owners, and sorry for the boiler-plate logs!

Another great Earthcache experience. Steeba will be emailing our answers to the CO.

Cheers
