Day 13 of my fortnight+ road trip up to Brisbane and back to Blue Mountains. Leisurely drives. Avoiding GC power trails. Randomly driving to various spots that take my fancy. And older caches on my target list, such as this. A nice hike up. Had to do it quick before my rented geomobile could get trapped by the national park gate closure in an hour or so. Glad to sign my nametag. TFTC Rogainer for my 2295 find.

Walking in Venman National Park today with a hiking group I belong to. After the walk I wandered back along the tracks picking up a few caches. Thanks for placing this one here.

Over visiting from NZ and using the time to do as much caching as other commitments allow. The wet weather over the last few days had dampened things down nicely and made for pleasant walking conditions today. After completing a 9km walk collecting all the ones on Mt Cotton, decided I had a couple of hours daylight left to get some more in the area, so headed off along the Venman trail. It was supposed to be a short walk, but one extra in the forest a couple of kms away added significantly to my jaunt, which ended up being a 6.5km round trip, so over 15km total for the day.A nice quick find here, but the log book was very wet. Still managed to sign though. TFTC

This cache has been on my to do list since I signed some challenge caches referring to finding Oldies & this is another great box to in that endeavour.

Muggle65, Brislions and l are out today on no particular mission. I just wanted 30 - 40,000 steps with a few slopes. Luckily the boys were on board and M65s car was lovely and clean. Very happy that this golden oldie is still in play

Great spot, asked the spiders long the way where it was n they pointed me in the right direction

17-Oct-23
Caching solo today with .a few target aches in mind.Little did I know my data had been turned off on my phone so this added to difficulties with tracking while in the area. Also the NP had taken down the signage for refurbishing.I set off heading towards the cache with an easy find. Had a quick peek to check when I had signed it previously (2016 - after a big fire). Vegetation has returned but it is now very dry again with plenty of fuel. All good so headed back do down the tracks.TFTCache Manta (Maintenance by Rogainer)

Last one for me today as I needed to get home. It was an easy enough find but it was a little bit of a walk the way I took.

16-Oct-22
It's not everyday you find a 20 year old cache in the bush. I've had the caches in this bush on my to do list for years now so today I finally decided to head out.
This area is amazing to go for a walk and it seems the locals agree. So many cars in the carpark when I left and it was still early.
Thanks for maintaining Rogainer, all good here.

Wonderful bushland. Glad I came back here today. A bit of bush bashing required for this one but once you are at GZ it's an easy find. TFTC

This morning, my muggle father and I attended the Eagleby tree planting CITO event. Despite the rain overnight, we were free from rain during the session, but it meant that there were fewer people to plant the 1000 tree stock. We then took a detour past Venman Bushland National Park, where we had a short 2-3 km walk taking a small circuit of the area.
In the afternoon, the whole family took a short outing to Paddington, where had a leisurely walk along Latrobe Terrace, and jesswrigley and I took the opportunity to complete the *Paddington Terraces Kooka! Trail* Adventure Lab, which was pretty cool. It looks like this artwork is recently new to the area.
My final outing was to assist kalour on a few tree climbing geocaches around Ashgrove, and during my return back home, I collected a couple of geocaches from the listening/speaker series.

On our way home from the CITO event and with the weather just drizzling, my dad and I decided to take this short walk around Venman Bushland National Park. There were a few wallabies nearby to where we parked, which was nice. There were a few oldies in this area, and my specific target was this Q100 cache. We weren't too far from this cache along the tracks before walking through the scrub, and it wasn't long before we found this nicely hidden cache. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks Manta for the cache placement, and Rogainer for its ongoing maintenance. It was nice to have found this oldie 07/2002 hidden cache, of which is one of Queensland's 100 oldest yet active geocaches.

Headed out here on my day off to grab this oldie.
Parked the car in a nearby street and headed off with my pen and car keys.
This was a lovely area that I hadn’t been to before on a beautiful morning.
At GZ it was a quick find. Thank you for maintaining this oldie.
I then decided to complete several more caches in the area and walking over 10km. I should have grabbed my backpack and water bottle in hindsight.

Needing to get out of the house, I decided to come to this area to find the few oldies in Venman Bushland NP. Having walked around this park finding the other 2 caches, I made my way to this cache through the bush.
I understand how you can get disorientated walking in to the bush and not taking bearings of where you entered. I located GZ and found the cache tucked away in its hide. SL then returned as found.
My return trip to my entry point didn't happen and I ended up along the other track I just came on. While coming out of the bush, a wallaby stopped and looked at me then turned and bounded away back from where it came from. My only encounter with wildlife in here today.

Thanks for bringing here for a most enjoyable walk today.

Venman bushland holds many memories for us. We used to live around the corner when our family started. We walked along the tracks in an effort to induce labour when I was having my daughter (it didn’t work). We would come here for picnics with our playgroup. Today we came here to geocache with our (now) tween. Never been up to this section though, so it was nice to discover someplace new. TFTC

26-Jun-21
I was inspired by my find of an older cache yesterday to head out and find another one today. As I’ve never explored this piece of bushland before, I decided it was the perfect target for my morning’s walk. Rain threatened and, in fact, drizzled a bit whilst we were walking but we were on a mission so we continued on regardless. We enjoyed our wander along the trails then left the track when our arrows pointed in. We made our way amongst the broken trees towards GZ where we made a nice quick find of this cache in great condition.TFTC Rogainer

Stepped out on my own today, literally, seeking some solitude while I got some exercise and found some older caches. This area suited me perfected. The weather was also perfect - dry and not too hot, and even better I got to take my new shoes for a walk. Managed to get photos of four original logs in old QLD caches - perfect!

This was another of the target caches for today - being that it is one of Queensland's oldest 100 caches, and will help me with quite a few challenges. All up a great walk in the bush.

Thanks for a great cache, Manta. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

First day of Spring seemed an ideal time to tackle Venman Bushland... even though the car park suggested otherwise it felt like I had the entire park to myself... well just me and the wildlife...

Got to within 70 metres and then let the geostick lead the way...

Thanks Rogainer for maintaining this oldie...

Out for our exercise in this empty National Park.
Parked outside the gate as a sign informed us that it would be closed at 5:30, that was not the case.
Happy to find out that this was one of the QLD oldies, funny how goals will be fulfilled by just getting a good walk in the bush

Thank you for this one

Out today with my Geocaching’s buddy Grannysmith1947. Our target again was old caches had a few on the list today. But was it a good idea. So hot. As usually we can’t go pass other caches in front us.

Found 19 caches today. A mixed of Traditional, Mystery, multi and Earthcache. Of the 19 caches were 6 old ones.
This 37 of 50 for Oldest and Finest Challenge

I was on a mission today to collect some old and finest over the south of the river. This was the first one and a pleasant walk into the bush along well formed paths but very hit dry and smoky. I did keep my eyes peeled for any sign of spot fires in case i needed to make a quick exit. At GZ I took a bit too long before relying on the senses to spot the hide! Tftc

The first main goal of the afternoon. I have been slowly working through grabbing the oldest caches, however in the last couple of months, that speed seems to have picked up thanks to Fangsoki.
So today with some time to spare after having completed the morning’s tasks we headed over this way to grab this cache and then see what else we might get before the day comes to an end.
With rather dismal weather, it was no surprise that there weren’t really any other cars parked here upon our arrival, and we set off on the journey. The rain did hassle us a little on our way around, with just enough drizzle to be slightly irritating, but there was no way it was going to put a dampener on things. We were out here to enjoy the adventure and enjoy it we would.
Arriving at GZ it didn’t take long to make the find, and sign the logbook. It is always nice to see these older caches continuing, and they are more often than not the type of caching I enjoy - a bit of a hike to find a decent sized container. This one was no exception.
With cache replaced, we headed back to the carpark where a couple of other cars now happened to have joined ours.
Thanks for the cache Manta (Maintenance by Rogainer).

This cache is my first counting towards the Rambler’s Challenge Cache (GC2XBA7)

First cache in many years! It's good to be back into this again.

Visiting Mt Cotton and had some time to hit some trails. Thought this would have been a quick one but entered the bush too early and made it harder for ourselves. Once we got to GZ it was quite easy to spot.

Never thought this cache was over 17 years old! Still in great condition. TFTC

Third of the oldies found this morning. I was regretting leaving my pedometer at home as today's walk through here would have really helped with my daily steps goal.
After a bit of a bush bash after stepping off the track I came to cache.
All well here.
I must remember to take a way point when I step off the path as when I finally made it back out on to the path, I was about 40 metres from where I had stepped off path initially
Ah well, more steps added to total.
Thanks for the cache.

With the weather being busted for our boating trip today we were at a loss this morning of what to do. The cache blockers had dropped us like a bag of cement when they heard the day had to be postponed, this made us reflect on the earlier years when we would have to book in a time with the muggle grandparents to be able to go off and have a caching day. Oh, how times have changed, now we have to book in a time to actually see our cache blockers! With them already having made new plans within 2 seconds flat of hearing we weren’t hitting the ocean, we had found ourselves in a conundrum of what to do for the day. Once the cache blockers had parted ways from us we decided that we would go and find a few more of the oldest and finest.

Getting closer to GZ and we could not believe our luck, what is this…a gate that is actually opened and we can drive through! That is obscene, normally everywhere we go we think awesome looks like we can drive right to GZ, until a dirty big gate is in the way with a giant padlock, we are still waiting for the locked gate attribute to be available on the geo-description. We drove through like we were arriving in heaven. Parking the geo-beast we jumped out and followed the small track to GZ, we walked past a family making a good old fashioned wood fire to cook up their lunch.

Arriving near GZ we ventured off path and discovered the magic, at least we got one oldest and finest today, go us!!!

Staying nearby and thought we would check out the area. Lovely walk until we had to bushbash. Lots of spiders and webs around but made it through unscathed. Tftc

Venmanta was the last of three 'oldies' found today. After leaving the city behind, I took my parole officer, Ms Maddy with me to check out this oldie. It was a bit of a drive and I went past a lot of other caches just to target this one. The rest will just have to wait for my next day release.

The hardest part of finding these caches was to pick the right path and avoid the urge to go bush bashing. For this one we minimised the bush bashing and found another cache in good condition. Thanks for maintaining this 'old' cache Rogainer, much appreciated.

Amazing weather for the beginning of winter and now I have traitor Arfie safely in custody his punishment is to drive us from cache to cache. There was a feeble and unsuccessful attempt to abscond but quickly overpowered by Charlie

I was super excited walking to GZ to have a crack at another old cache. My son wasn’t all that interested in the history. He was only here because he owed me a debt that had to be repaid in caches rather than dollars.

As we got close I tried to determine the best access point to attack from. I couldn’t make up my mind and after a while my son said “if we had just headed bush we would be there by now”. Sounds like a plan!

He started heading in but after about 10 metres pulled up and said you’d better go first because you’ve got the phone. His phone was running on empty because he had been streaming Spotify during the walk to provide some mood music.

We clearly didn’t pick the T1.5 path but we didn’t run into anything hideous that posed a problem. I made a nice quick find and it was awesome to have another old cache under the belt. tftc

I was in the area today with a view to finding some of the older caches in the process.

This cache was found easy enough after a nice walk to GZ. The last 100m or so of bush bashing was not too bad.

Log was signed and returned to the cache and the cache replaced exactly as found.

All is good with this cache.

This was one of the caches we set our sights for today while trying to find some of the older caches in the area. Thanks Venmanta and Rogainer for keeping this old cache alive for the likes of us. We really enjoyed our walk through to this cache today, it was very pleasant. Not far along on our return walk I wasn't looking where I was going and fell over causing me to spit dirt for the next half hour. Serves me right. Nothing damaged though so all was good. Cache was found in good condition. Cheers!

Saturday. Slow Puncture were on a mission on the dark side today - to find the remaining 6 caches required to fulfill Fangsoki's "Queensland's 'Oldest and Finest' Challenge".

This one was our longest journey by foot for the day. We arrived at the car park co-ordinates to find the park well occupied by playing families and some sort of community group performing planned activities. We found the path and started down it. When we got to Tingalpa Creek (which was dry, made us sad), we came across a blue cap on the ground which belonged to the community group. We placed it on top of a post, and continued our journey. Soon we were at the point where we were advised to turn left - so we did!

After making our way along this track for a short while, we found the point which matched the part in the instructions where we should turn off. The compass was at right angles, so this seemed reasonable. Off we went, through the light bush, and before long we arrived at GZ. A likely spot was observed, and so it proved to be. A sign of the log and we re-traced our steps back to the path, where a pair of bushwalkers suspiciously observed us emerging from nowhere! We note they made a point of outpacing us after that point, and by the time we returned to the main track, they were nowhere to be seen Big Grin

As we returned to our start point, we came across the blue cap, which had mysteriously changed location to a stump... Surprised So, to completely mess with at least one person's mind, we changed its location yet again, to a different post than originally. Heh heh Big Grin Twilight Zone stuff.

This was the 4th of 6 caches found on today's trip.

Thanks ***Rogainer***, for showing us this place. Smile

Out hunting oldies again with barbbowman - with a slight change - it's Thursday funday on Friday this week Smile.

After a refuel with some lunch, we left the Neville Lawrie Reserve and drove around to the Venmann National Park. We had already walked over 8 km in the reserve so decided to save our energy for another hike. This was the next oldie on our list and as we headed to GZ we both looked at each other and said 'oh no!' There had been a fire and things were looking very burnt...OMG, it's all okay! With a huge sigh of relief, we signed the log and headed off to find some flowerpots and marshmallows. TFTC Manta and Rogainer Big Grin

We forgot to find this one Good Friday, so we thought to come back and find it today Wink. We parked near GZ and walked over. We parked near GZ and walked over. Well what can I say here, easy enough to find except when I got tangled in the bush and fell over a log and skinned my face. It was either hit the ground or get pierced by a stick and I chose to loose skin and a little blood. Cache was about 8 to 10 mtrs out by my GPS but in a logical place. Paperwork completed and cache replaced as found. TFTC

After completing the oldest and finest challenge a couple of months back I am still keen to tick the remaining ones off. With the planned out caches for the day all found and with an hour to spare Eskies5 suggested we head here and grab this one. Why not...we pulled up at GZ after filling our bellies with a sausage roll on the way. Off we headed, hang on, wrong track...good thing we didn't have to back track to far. On we walked, following the necessary turn offs until we arrived at GZ. Cache retrieval was left up to Eskies5 as I am not a huge fan of 8 legged creatures. Very happy to have a smiley here. This was an interesting cache. Not being from Australia, I'm not familiar with the arachnids of the area. Therefore, when I retrieved the cache, felt something on my hand, and discovered a large spider (photo attached), I immediately dropped the container. Amazingly, the spider decided that it wasn't going anywhere so I had to gently prod it with a piece of tree bark to get it to move on its way. Thanks for the excitement. I will vote this cache one of my favorites.

Team Benders wanted to come and visit this one which had been destroyed by fire the last time she came through. I was just along for the ride and enjoyed a pleasant walk in light drizzle and the great company.

The forest has really bounced back from the fire and is full of green and we spotted a few mushrooms growing as well.

The cache is fine and was being watched over by one of the mushrooms.

Out with Vennfamily today.
I had previously visited this cache with RoddyC and sadly it was the victim of a bushfire in the area.
After a lovely walk in and arrived back to the same spot, there was a cache waiting for us. It had a pink mushroom keeping guardian. Signed the log and returned the cache to its hide
The area is green again with grass, small wattles and other bush trees in infancy sprouting back from the fires. The recent rain was making everything look fresh again.
Thanks to Four Bees for replacing giving me an excuse to return again.

Last October we reported this one missing due to bushfire. We have noted that thefourbees have graciously replaced the cache. Like many others visiting here, this cache is on two challenge cache lists for us, so today's visit is well overdue.

My, how long it is taking for the bush here to re-vegetate. I guess there has been little rain over the past twelve weeks. The creek was certainly dry - just one stagnant pond with not much in it.

The cache is in good order, as expected, and the log was signed, and all returned as discovered.

Found at 8.10am on 9th January 2016. TFTC.
