Spotted by Just_Jess! on our way out after our first time exploring these trails. TFTC
#6278.
This network of trails is probably my favorite spot in Tumut and we just love coming here for a hike or with the bicycles. This was my last unfound cache in town and hopefully there will be some new ones not too far in the future. This is also my first cache of the new year and hopefully it will be a very good year for geocaching. Cache was found quickly and in good condition. Happy New Year and thanks for the cache!

Day 9 of our 2 week road trip south from Brisbane. After overcoming floods, a bogged car and vehicle electrical issues, we finally reached Canberra to spend a few days with relatives and explore some of the newer virtual and earth caches since my last visit. It was then time to continue the journey south towards the Snowy Mountains.
After staying overnight in Tumut, I headed out early this morning to grab a few more local caches, including this one, before we continues on our journey. I had almost forgotten this one was on my list and had to make a detour on my way to pick up my wife who was still having a bit of a sleep in.
A lurking dog walker made a detail search difficult, but I was still able to search with my eyes and eventually this paid dividends. Still I had to hang around a while longer before I could retrieve the cache to sign the logbook. Job eventually completed and cache replaced as found. TFTC

Back again for this nemisis cache. Checked with a recent finder and it isn't where they found it. Perhaps the recent rain has washed it out? Couldn't see it on the ground either. There really has been a lot of rain. Oh well .... we'll be baaaaack!
Nooo! rats! A thorougher search in between rain storms. But all we found were cranky spider sigh. Will have to try again another time.
Had etched this weekend out for a Mega down south, but with that postponed we thought a weekend adventure in the Tumut region would help fill the gap. A lovely trip with crazy weather (I love spring snow) and a few surprise side trips. So glad we made the trip! Thanks for the cache.

Don’t you hate those morning when you have time to finally sleep in, but your body just doesn’t want to?!
So while finishing off breakfast, a last minute decision which blossomed from a passing comment that there were ftfs still available in Tumut and we were on the road.
It was a grey, chilly day, but we ticked a few boxes - ftfs, clearing out Tumut and clearing out Gundagai too. And although the weather wasn’t the best we had a great time.
This cache: We grabbed this one as we came out. There were cars in the car park, but no people. Luckily it didn’t take too long to grab, but the cache was in backwards so it took a toll to assist to get it out. But all good, safe and sound and quickly signed and returned. Tftc The Emongs!!!

Proud as punch to get this one. Despite my whingeing kids & muggles galore, I was able to read enough logs to give me clues where to look. Like the others, I, too, needed a stick to retrieve this one. It was simply shoved in too deep. I hope I've made it a bit easier for the next person!
Go us!
Go us!
Found it.. took a few times circling the spot we thought before it came to vision. Quick dash through the ants as we left it where we found it. Needed a small stick to retrieve it..as it was in a little too far.
Drove to Tumut to catch up with Pprass, to tackle a few a the tough caches in the area.
Gave Pete's geo-rover a good work out, climbing the hills (luxury bush bashing).
Left all caches in good condition, thanks for a great day out.
Many thanks for placing this cache, The Emongs, for us and others to find.

Took a few moments to get this one - it was pushed way in!
Thanks The Emongs.

Day two of my journey of collecting caches and the original plan was to collect a few around Yass and then head to Tumut (via Gundagai) and do a lot more there, but I enjoyed the ones I started that I spent a lot more time around the former town. Had very little luck in Gundagai (it was tourist central) and had quite a few DNFs (or did not stops) but still cracked 50 for the day (all trads as I had no luck on multis today).
After checking in the motel I went for a walk in the heat chasing butterflies and a few caches in the bike park - have walked here before so knew it was a nice patch of bush. This is where I posted the road grader and looked around the sign. Stirred up the ants but thankfully had the cache relatively quicker - a few cachers may struggle to get this one. Log signed and returned as found.

Hard to spot with the sun in my eyes, but found it eventually. I will come back for the rest another day. Thanks for the cache The Emongs.
Has been pushed a little too far in, but other than that an easy one to find.
Short search and had the cache in hand. Doing a short walk in here before it gets dark
. Just one night in Tumut so trying to grab a few caches.

Tumut invasion trip May 2019. A local Canberra group decided to head up to Tumut for a weekend of caching and meeting and greeting. Several groups were out and about over the weekend and we all had a great time despite a bit of wetness and a bit of cold, which was to be expected. Day two I joined up with Fitzy_1965 for a few town area caches and then up into the local forest for a few more in the morning. The afternoon was time for a few DNFs from a trip a few years ago. The one that should have been easiest to access turned into a failed attempt. Oh well, something for next time.
Thanks.

No luck for us today. Pity as its the (currently) last cache I have to do in Tumut. Next time !!!
Out caching with GLISS as part of the Tumut invasion. We had a great day with mostly finds, only a few DNFs.
Oops, stuck my retractable magnet into a hole and something moved but I’m not sure whether it was a spider or a cache. Tried a few sticks of varying sizes but it just kept going further in. Hopefully I haven’t inadvertently turned this one into a D5 Unfortunately I’m not quite tall enough to shine a torch in to see what’s in there and no ladder.
I wouldn’t attempt the other caches around here with a vehicle unless you have a proper 4WD like a landrover. Poor Gliss tried to get us in on her 2WD SUV but we had to turn back.

I had to wait while a cyclist got ready to tackle the hills around town. then a quick find. I found the hill very easy to drive around in a car. TFTC.
Started looking in the right spot, but missed it, so started looking elsewhere and eventually spotted it when I returned to the start. No time for the trails today - next trip.
Thanks,
Thanks,
Not today !! [:o]
The bike can stay in the back of the geomobile,
and I'll enjoy a stroll around the rocky tracks
But before any strolling could begin,
there was the small matter of finding this cache
Found on the second search

Camped in Tumut for a couple of days. Hot day today, off to tackle some caches in the forest.TFTC
It was an early start to the day when I set out with Aquilus1 at 0600 on Sunday morning (04/01/2018) to cache Tumut with a side trip to Gundagai. In all we travelled 520kms and it took almost 16 hours to visit 70 plus caches with 65 finds. A long but very enjoyable day. Some of the highlights of the day included visiting Junction Bridge (a Truss Bridge built in the 1800s), Googarragandra River Suspension Bridge (Built in 2006 and Spanning 51..8 meters), Tumut River Grey-headed Flying Fox Colony, Tumut Rail Station and the Tumut River. We had a little time to also visit the Old Gundagai Jail built in 1859 and the Old Flower Mill built in the 1848. Aquilus1 took a photo of me at the Brungle Centenary Park using my poker to poke the cache out of its hiding spot. We had lunch at Gundagai McDonalds and snacks at Subway. This is a generic log due to the volume of all the caches that we found on the day. Thanks to Aquilus1 for a fantastic day of caching and thanks to all the cache owners for placing the caches.
I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. As of 31st January 2018 my average was only 20 words per log, which seems close to the 100 target. However given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After 2350 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including today), the average log length is just over 50. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my gaol before this year ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.

It was an early start to the day that saw Darksidedan and myself heading to Tumut for the day with a side trip of some Gundagai caches as well as we travelled through. I had been keen to head off for a caching trip and Tumut looked ideal and definitely didn't disappoint. The scenery as we traveled through the area was everything I had hoped it would be and the clear fast flowing rivers beautiful as they flowed through the middle of it all.
A long but very enjoyable day, so many highlights and although we covered a large area and many caches I'm pleased to know there are many more so a return trip sometime is definitely going to happen.
Took all of my stretch from tippy toes to fingertips!

After arriving in Tumut I had a couple of spare hours so headed out to do some caches on the west side of town. TFTC.
Forgot to log a couple of trackables that we have with us on our short trip to Tumut in NSW.
Back in Tumut again for a few days on one of our regular visits so it was great to see a couple of new caches out in the area.
We loaded our 2 grandkids into the car and headed off to this one only a relatively short drive from home.
We arrived at GZ and parked within 3 metres of the cache. Don’t you love a drive-by! Then it was unbuckle the kids after parking in some welcome shade, avoid the bull ants nest and then a quick search.
With help our eldest grandson (all of 3 years old) spotted the cache and quickly made the retrieval. He loves to open them and remove and examine all the contents. We also have to sign his name, so you will see Bill on the log as well.
But, in between all this we had forgotten to bring a pen so we had to load the kids back into the car, buckle them in and then return home and come back to sign.
A great outing all the same! Then it was off to the Junction for a paddle and to throw some rocks. A great place on a hot day.
I must add, we had to re-find the cache there too!

A quick and easy find this morning before driving into the hills to find the next new one in town.
Quick find while wandering around Tumut and checking out the mountain bike trails. Lucky one of us is on the taller side
Found this one in the company of baby&Mrs gopher and thomo31 on a beautiful Spring day. SL TFTC
Found with baby&Mrs Gopher and Nodalot. Parked nearby and headed over. A short search and cache was in hand. Height helped! Signed log and returned as found. TFTC
6830 Found by baby&Mrs gopher at 1510 in company with the team of thomo31 and Nodalot on a wander through the district. Last for us for the day. Have a couple of others for the rest of the team to locate on our return home. Have been to this location now on a few different trips. Just love the start of the walking riding tracks from here. SL Tnx The Emongs.
after reading description I decided to climb into fork of tree, why? I am not 2mtrs tall! and there it was easily spotted. tftc
