Thanks for the cache Rocket2015. After a weekend break on the east coast with the GeoGSP's, I decided to head home to Hobart via the non-scenic route. Took a little diversion to find a couple of caches up this road. This was a nice quick find at GZ.

Deciding to grab this one first then "Storeys Untold", on my way out, i parked in the ample car park to make the swift find close by.Before signing the log i stopped and looked all around and marveled at the Mountains and Hills here. It's like they really do have eyes being surrounded by all those tall peaks SurprisedCool I loved being here, it reminds me a lot like the Flinders Ranges in SA's mid north, an area i love so much.Signed the dry log book at 11:52 on Wednesday the 8th of November 2023. Replaced the cache as found and wasn't really in a hurry to leave here CoolTFTC Rocket2015 Smile

It was very cold and windy. I got to the geocaches location, and then had to think about where it might be using my Geocaching eyes. I soon found it. I must remember in future to download information on these geocaches before I get to them. Thank you for this geocache.

After leaving Geo Maggie at Conara, we have arrived at Fingal after detouring for the two caches along this road. Found, stamped and replaced, with Maggie and Mollie, my GeoWesties, while roaming around Tasmania with our motorhome “Mylittlebus” looking for content for our TASMANIA ALL OVER facebook page. Thanks for placing this cache (and others), keeping us on our exploring toes.

Well, that is spooky… driving up here, without having read the cache description, I said to S_38, I am not sure I like this area, it’s creepy…. Now I am intrigued by all you have written, but no time to explore today though, we’ll be back! Thanks for the cache!

Today we headed to St Helens for the weekend. We set off from Hobart mid morning today with the intention of meandering our way there exploring along the way and of course collecting some geocaches along the way whenever practical. As we turned on to the Esk Hwy the first thing we noticed was how flooded the river was and literally every river and rivulet we saw today was swollen and flowing hard. We were fortunate though because as soon as we turned on to the Esk Hwy it stopped raining and more or less was fine and in parts sunny for the rest of the day, which is a stark contract up until that point.

We decided to make our way to Fingal then double back along the Rossarden Road to pick up caches along there and also check out the waterfalls and the old mining township. This is an area we had not been to before. From there we then continued along the Tasman Hwy through St Mary’s and on to St Helens.

As we were driving down the hill heading towards this cache, we were flashed and asked to pull over by a vehicle heading in the opposite direction. They told us that the river had flooded the bridge at Avoca and we would not be able to get out that way. Therefore we went and collected the cache then we did an about turn and headed back along the Rossarden Road to Fingal. TFTC

Remember that movie well and have watched it a couple of times. It was pretty scary, just like this area.
We had just come from Rossarden and that place has enough scary legends about it to make you lock the doors as you drive through! Don't know why as the locals we saw mostly gave us a wave. Remember meeting a muggle in Tully in Queensland who, when he found out we were from Tassie, asked us if we'd ever been to Rossarden. He worked there and him and his mate had to leave in a hurry with just what they had on after a local was after them. He said their bodies would have been put down one of the old mine shafts where they were never likely to be found again. Mind you his mate was supposedly having it off with the guys wife.
Mr Beetle also remembers the rule for Telstra employees - they were not to go to Rossarden alone!! Had to go in pairs!!
Anyway back to the cache which was a quick find, then we drove up to check out the mine but didn't quite get there as the track really bogged up and it would have been a long walk to get help.
Thanks.

Tassie Trip Day 171 - Another good day but the area we went for a drive in was a little on the close side as it was in the clouds and the view would have been spectacular but alas the weather is what the weather is one the day.

A great spot and interesting spot for a cache after taking the wrong approach the other member of the team soon yelled its over here but my GPS had me on the other side but that is what has happened on more than one occasion here.

Thanks for the cache Rocket 2015.

Hi Rocket2015, thanks for this cache, found on an intended great day out with geoSonA and AlbyDangles. This was the first in the area. We enjoyed exploring in this area, including a locked gate, mines and relics, several fallen trees, a couple of deer, and often no phone reception.
In a twist, the day needed to be aborted as we were called back to Hobart (when the phone reception eventually returned) to deal with a medical drama.
Otherwise, a great day with excellent company.

On our way back from Hobart we decided to travel up the east coast and collect a few caches that had been published since our last visit, as well as doing some maintenance on a few caches in the area.

Once at Avoca we then headed up to the Stanhope mine area. The first one was the start of the 4x4ing area and we made a quick find.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.

Hello Rocket2015 thank you for the cache.

Last night I noticed that there was four caches in the area that hadn't been found so I thought I would go and find them, I set the alarm for 0400 and went to bed.
This morning the alarm awoke me from a gentle sleep and I stopped it straight away so it didn't awake MrsD, I quickly got dressed and headed out the door. The drive up was a very quite and un eventful only stopping to get a coffee and a toasted sandwich that had been sitting in the bain-marie for too long.
I drove past this cache of yours on the way in to finding the other caches, after find the other cache I stopped off here to find yours. As I drove up to the intersection and watched as the GPS counted down I thought I knew where you would have hidden the cache so with out taking the GPS out of the car I went to where I thought it was but nothing there so I returned to the car and read the hint.
Now to tell the truth I misread the information you had given in the hint and was looking too high so I walked around for a long time looking for the wrong thing before returning to the car and getting the GPS out looking at it and reading the hint properly, it wasn't until I had done what I should have done in the first pace that I managed to find the cache easily.

The first day of spring, a cool morning, clear skies and a hint of warmth in the sun - the start of a day when something could be achieved. For the last 50 months we have managed to find at least one FTF per month and, being the first day of the month, we were looking for opportunities to extend our streak to 51 months. We had noticed that there were seven caches near Storey Creek that we hadn't found, four of which were available for FTF. So, there was really no option - off to Storeys Creek for a days caching.

By the time we arrived, the sun was warm and there wasn't any cold wind - ideal conditions. This is despite snow on the southern slopes of the North East Highlands immediately behind Storeys Creek. The wildlife were also appreciating the conditions. There was a very wide variety of birds filling the area with their tunes: kookaburras, black cockatoos, white cockatoos, blue wrens and fantails were the most prominent (and of course, the ever present jays cleaning up the road kill). We also saw quite a number of kangaroo, wallaby and even two wombats. Yes, spring had arrived and all were enjoying the day.

This was the first cache we came to today. Accurate coordinates, the hint and an obvious location for a hide led to a quick find. Initially we thought that there was only a plastic bag. However on closer inspection we saw one of the best protected caches that we have ever seen. The mint tin was doubled bagged and the logbook inside the mint tin was also bagged. This is the first triple bagged logbook that we have come across and, needless to say, the contents of the cache container were in excellent condition. Thanks Rocket2015 for the cache and for giving us another reason to come to the area today.

We have previously driven on the Avoca, Rossarden, and Fingal loop and have read about the interesting history of this area before but we still enjoyed our revisit here today. Absolutely beautiful winter weather, sunny when we left Claremont at 9.30am, sunny at Rossarden and sunny when we arrived back in the south at 3.20pm. The cache was retrieved from it's hide and I know it's hard to believe but after just 4 days both plastic bags were quite moist. We dried them both out and replaced the cache as found. Who doesn’t love an easy drive by so thanks for this one Rocket2015.
