I'm well overdue for some tree-time and @WonderfulWifey suggested (insisted!) that I go bush to fix this deficit. The CO joined me on my hike in the hills, as we headed towards GSEL's new "Hiking Challenge - Hard" cache. With that cache found, and then lunch enjoyed, it was onwards and upwards for some zigging and zagging. This cache was on the way and an easy find once on the right level.Thank you for an enjoyable outing, edvern Smile

Today was a dot day so despite the dodgy weather thought I would get out to collect some smileys.
Came here to do the 6 caches in the Arapuke mountain park. Walked up from the Kahuterawa car park expecting to be walking along small mountain bike track avoiding bikers. Surprised by the lovely wide tracks and open scenery. The park is well sign posted for walkers. Took a good couple of hours to get them all.
Cache all fine. Thanks for the smiley.

Found quickly and boy what a fabulous view from up there. First time running along checkpoint Charlie. Well worth the visit if you're on the fence about walking or running that far.

Continued around this loop track. Great views along the ridge and a quick find at GZ.
The MTB tracks are pretty impressive. An easy walk out after the steep climb up.
TFTC Edvern. Really enjoyed this loop track.

After a DNF at my previous stop, I I got my act together with a very quick find here. It's always good to go caching over ground I haven't been on before.

Stunning amount of effort has gone into creating all the MTB tracks - a good view to be had from this cache. Nice little hide, here with the CO on a morning walk. TFTC

cache 4800 getting close to the 5000 mark.
dont normally hit the gravel walks but this was something different and would make an easy family walk.
only spotted 1/2 dozen keen mountain bikers today without a shuttle so the walk down was quite. this cache was all in good order and well hidden. thanks for the placement and the windy walk back Smile

On the way home after visiting the platinum mines, lovely evening views.

Walked up from the Sledge Track, light rain most of the way but was still passable, if a bit muddy. Steep climb from the new bridge, with some great views along the valley with mist rising out of the bush. One we'd done the climb there was a well-made track from then on that undulated and was an easier walk. Lots of re-foresting and bike trail work going on. It was a quick find at the final. From the top the most direct route back down to the car park we had used before, was the one behind a gate marked "caution". That way was a nice walk on a narrow road with more good views including the hair-raising Kissing Rock bike descent, which had us scratching our heads about how anyone could do it and survive! To be fair it is marked "Expert" level. A nice walk thanks and thanks for the cache!

Mr Rattll headed off to do some maintenance on our caches on the Sledge Track while Mrs Rattll turned right and over the swing bridge to pick up the couple of caches on this track.
That zigzag up to the top is a bit of a grunt. And then once at the top the wind was blowing pretty hard, so it was quite a relief when I finally arrived at GZ.
There were plenty of cars in the carpark when we started, but I only passed one group of muggles having a snack break on the zigzag as I went up. It was nice and peaceful & muggle free at GZ, so I took my time signing the log - nothing to do with trying to recover so I could carry on!!!
Thanks for setting this up edvern
I left a pet rock - a squirrel

Super quick to find by hubby when out training for Camino on a blustery manawatu day. Log lovely & dry. TFTC

I biked up to this cache via Pupu Rahi, Jack and the Beanstalk and Yeah Nah.
The cache was a quick find. It was a nice morning with a good view across to Mt Ruapehu.
Afterwards I rode along the new secrion of Checkpoint Charlie, which I hadn't ridden before. Along the way I discovered another new track Jack's Link which is quite a nice track connecting Checkpoint Charlie to Jack and the Beanstalk.
Great location for a cache.
Thanks.

# 967 Been wanting to get out for a run and check out this new bridge and today was the day! Quite a fine bridge, followed by a VERY steep climb up the the MTB bike park ... this part is only just runnable with a few stops to walk the stairs. I imagine this section will get very muddy when wet but so good to see this new track as it opens up so many more options.

This is the first time I had been to the MTB park proper and I was impressed! Lovely views inland towards Arawaru Trig and down valley to Palmy. Thanks for giving me a reason to come here edvern.

My sister and I went for a walk this afternoon to explore the new loop track. The new swing bridge is impressive! The walk to the top didn't take too long, and by the time we made it to the top the drizzle had stopped and we had a good view down the valley.I made the find quickly, wrote the log and re-concealed carefully.Loved the walk and the cache! TFTC!
