Fabulous day on the Rimutaka Rail Trail today. Cache is all good. Earns a fave from us... TFTC
Managed to get the stuck part out on the weekend and have repaired the cache at home. Will enable when we replace the cache in its rightful place when back up this way.
Enjoying this bike ride in perfect weather, a group of seven of us, all on e-MTBs. The detailed hint was helpful but Murphy's law, it was the fourth and final corner we searched before located! Took a photo of the broken remains and sent as proof to the CO. TFTC.
Looks like the bison tube has detached from the cache and we couldn't get it out. Will have to create a new container but in the meantime we are happy to accept finds as it should be pretty obvious when you have found the remaining part of the cache.
#11,811. I decided today was a good opportunity during Labour weekend to pick off a few of the back country caches at the head of the Remutaka cycle trail. But the plan was to access them by walking in via Collies Track out on the Remutaka Hill Road. Bit of a hike to get here in my gumboots. I got as far as the Siberia tunnel swingbridge and then came back through the summit tunnel on my walk back to the highway with a 30,000 steps round trip.
I stopped here for a look for the cache. In the second place checked I saw something suspicious, extracted it but where is the logbook? Read the recent logs on my GPS. As per the last finder there is a problem. Looks like whatever was attached to the wire is no longer attached due to rust. I probed with tweezers but felt nothing. If it was a bison or similar I think it has fallen into the interior of the bridge. Unable to sign anything I am still claiming it as what I had in hand was clearly a cache and it is too far to walk back again. Will send photo by message board. Thanks Jodanz for hiding the cache here.

Needs maintenance, wire connecting two parts has rusted out. Very clever, and I did manage to sign.
This morning I went on a bike ride from the loop road over Goat Rock Road onto the Incline trail, over to the Cross Creek carpark and back. This is a cache I logged as a DNF a few years ago so I was keen to make things right. Today I parked my bike, looked at the hint, looked over the side, saw something that matched the hint but it seemed fixed in place so I went back round each corner, on my hands and knees, and investigated everything in sight. In the end I went back to the first corner, tried the something again, and it was the cache!
I'm writing this a few days later, after the subsequent finder and TBH I didn't notice any problems with it. Oh well, I guess the CO can make that call. TFTC.

Something of a traffic jam here - a couple of service vehicles. But they moved on allowing me to find the nicely done hide. Thanks.
On yer bike?!? On ma foot! Twig and I planned a loop walk from SH2 over Collies Track, not realiing it joined up to the cycle trail. Lots of people on the trail today, and the trail surface is so much better than it was when I was last this way about 10 years ago. Twig tends to go straight for the hint and when he read it out I guessed what the cache hide might be. Yup!
Twig and I needed some tree time so we decided to come here. Over Collie's very overgrown Road to the Rimutaka rail trail and back via the appropriately named Back Road.
Log signed as TATS - TwigNZ and the Seagnoid.

I was due to spend the weekend in Wellington, and had some time available for some caching today so hatched a plan to meet up with the Seagnoid for some tramping time. He suggested following Collie's Track and going from there, which was fine as it's all virgin territory to me.
Over the course of the next 12 - 15km (estimated) we had to contend with everything from gnarly hills, very overgrown tracks (roads?) right through to the easy gradients and relatively smooth gravel of the Remutaka Rail Trail.
But it was nice to see the sun and to feel the warmth after so much rain and icy southerly blasts over the last few weeks.
I had never set foot on the Rail Trail before, and was very impressed with the form of the track. Definitely worth blowing the cobwebs off my bike and returning here in the not too distant future.
This cache was nicely done. I've seen a few like it before, and even have a similar one myself, although this one is getting a little rusty. The Hint made for a straightforward hide and the logsheet was signed as T.A.T.S (TwigNZ and the Seagnoid) before replacing it all back as found.
Thanks for the smiley

Had an enjoyable bike ride along the trail. This is an excellent cache and unlikely to be spotted by non-geocachers! Unfortunately I'm all out of favourite points at the moment. TFTC
At GZ for some time. Found hiding place, but has been removed. The cashe and concealing mechanism. Will return when replaced.
Having read some previous blogs, this was a quick find. Great hide.
I'm over from Nelson to visit my daughter for the weekend, and I made the rash decision to ride Maymorn to Cross Creek and back - which is a lot further than I have ridden for several years. And with two big hill climbs. Just as well there are several.csches to stop and look for so I have an excuse to get off the bike frequently.

I spent too long on this one. Partly because my GPSr kept pointing towards the wrong corner of the GZ and partly because I became intrigued watching a teeny tiny spider dealing to a much, much, much bigger and angrier wasp which was caught in the web. I had actually decided to move on from here feeling defeated and at the last minute I looked back and something caught my eye. Shortly after the log was in hand. A fav point from me. TFTC
Three clever caches in a row -a lot of work has gone into manufacturing and placing these, thanks again Jodanz for all your hard work -makes caching just that more fun!
back out on the normal track now
we are out trying our mt bikes out and what better place than the Remutaka rail trail.
This area is so full of rail way history an the things people did many years ago just to help the wheels of the industry to keep going around
many thanks

Neat hide, quick find, though skaga almost fumbled it into the drink haha. TFTC
Out on a ride on a beautiful Saturday afternoon with DaVinciHunter. Sneaky little cache. TFTC.
Started at SH2 and came up Collies Track (getting quite overgrown), then along Back Road to the Summit, along the incline to here and then back up Back Road and out to SH2 again along Via Dela Rosa. Logsheet was wet so added some semi-waterproof paper. Quick find with kimmy+co. Thanks Jodanz for another cool cache.
Previous finder nudged me to corner adjacent to where satnav was pointing. Quick find of this cunning cache. Thanks for a grin Jodanz!
Well it was all quiet today, I only met 3 other people on the trail all afternoon! A very quick find once I switched my brain on. TFTC
After tackling Collies' Track for the first time, it was back to the main track for some different type of cache hunting. I had read Wicm's log but could see there was a good reason for his DNF so wasn't negatively influenced by it. It didn't take long to track down the cleverly hidden treasure; a FTF of sorts since the change of hide.
Well, that was interesting. My GPSr definitely pointed me to one particular corner, but I didn't see anything there. I even ventured down to T3 territory and still found nothing. There was a lot of traffic on the path today; three groups of cyclists stopped to ask if I was ok! Which meant I perhaps didn't look as hard or as long as I should have. And when I got home to log the DNF I discovered the CO had updated the location and hint earlier in the week. The distance hadn't changed much; perhaps it now points to a different corner? but the hint is now more informative. Did this contribute to my DNF? I don't know! Except when I return hopefully it won't be as busy...

Quick search and find while up the incline doing water stop duty for the Rimutaka rail trail fun run & walk at Ladle Bend. Thanks for the cache. Found the log a little on the damp side.
With things at WENZ Headquarters than it was yesterday I was given a leave pass for a few hours. So I headed up to the Rail Trail to give my new Stumpy ST 29r it’s first off road trial. Rode up to Summit Yards with one stop to chat to rattll and watcache who I bumped into along the way. Pleasing to see some others enjoying this excellent trail, the excellent caching, and today's excellent weather.
I was on my bike today and enjoying every minute of it. Yeah I've done the other side up and back from Cross Creek and it's certainly a bit steeper. No problems getting my hands on the cache.
Oh and the mtb, passed with flying colours. Cheers and TFTC

Well its Mega time again and its held in Wellington so there has been lots of planning envolved with puzzles been solved and trails to do this trail along the habour betrween Wellington and Petone was planned to be done after the festivities of the Mega but there was to be a slight hick up at the start of Friday morning before we set off for Wellington and that was a truck accident with a chemical spill blocking the road restricting movement along state highway one in the road not likely to be open until 8pm that night. so after watching the NZTA website up until 3pm a plan was hatched to divert to Wellington over the Piatua track and down the Wairapa to our desination right at ground zero so there we stayed for three nights, after entering into the Waves to Waitrapa and trying to get 10 lab caches and 11 differnt cache types in a day on the saturday.
The next morning turned out to be another beauty so after breakfast we loaded the bikes onto the car and off to the start soon we were heading to the start of the trail where we un[oaded the bikes and adjusted one of them to suit mr rattl, then we were off and it was not long before we reached this one but only after we had taken the side track and returned to this one, and as we arrived we were again disturbed by muggles so after they had left we retrieved the log and signed our names then replaced as found.
Thanks for the placement and the smiley

We picked this one up after doing a bit of a side track.
Lots of muggles around today enjoying this amazing track, so we had to bide our time until the coast was all clear, to make the grab.
Thanks for setting this cache up jodanz

Today I thought that seeing it was going to be a nice day I would head out to the Rimutaka Rail Trail and try my luck with my new e-Bike.
It was a tad precarious putting my hand on this one.
Cheers for the cache.

#10,349. Returned to what Google Maps called “Cross Creek Road” in Rimutaka Hill, Upper Hutt. GZ was all quiet during the visit. Quick find. Well hidden. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

2nd cache I have found.... Yippie! My first was also a FTF!!! but cannot log as it is premium (not a premium member)
Found while out on a bike ride with wb1116.
Cache in good condition. Thanks for placing jodanz.

Good hint makes for quick find thanks But don't trip or slip while retrieving this one Certainly not when you are by yourself TFTC
Now that I read the recent logs this cache makes a whole lot more sense. I had stale data in my phone and GPS and after having found the cache I couldn't reconcile it with the hint - or indeed the title. This was missing last time I went by so thanks for replacing in the intervening time.
A quick ride out in a lovey quiet morning on the trail. Almost quiet - apart from the four GWRC vehicles heading out to Ladle Bend to kick off a weed spraying operation.
They are doing spot spraying around all of the structures - bridges etc. They are also clearing rubbish from around these structures. They are now informed that there may be items that at first glance may appear as rubbish, however upon closer inspection they will be able to determine certain items are indeed not rubbish, and will be safe from their perspective going forward.
Quick find where all good at GZ. Thanks for another smilie and an excuse to go for a ride.

Cache replaced on a ride up the incline and around to corner creek at ocean beach to camp for the night. Coords unchanged but cache now much much lower - please ensure cache is replaced exactly as found.
Checked today on a ride from Lower Hutt to the Rimutaka Incline summit and back - some idiot has decided the cache and its cover belong elsewhere so it's gone. Will have to find something else to put here that's not quite so attractive to Hutt Valley bogans.
Nice quick found thanks to excellent hint. A very clever hide here. A large group of cyclists stopped right beside us just as we were about to approach g z. I sent my son and daughter to look for the cache and they had no problems with the find. Thanks for bringing us here
First find of 2018. At long last I got to do some Geocaching again today. Last time I found a cache was 28 October 2017! Have done some maintenance on my own caches since then, but never anywhere where there was one I hadn't already found nearby to llok for. Today I intended to do some maintenance up near Summit and that is a fair old trek from home, so I thought I'd travel by bike. Thankfully the heatwave of the last week seems to have broken: we've had temperatures of 30 degrees + for the last 3 days in Kaitoke and cycling up to Summit would not have been on the cards. Today it was mainly cloudy with a stiff breeze blowing, a tail wind too, and low 20's. Bliss! Anyway, this cache told me to get on my bike, so that settled it. I could look for a cache on my way.
Once at Ladle Bend the Garmin bleeped at me and I had a break from pedalling to look for the cache. Couldn't spot anything in the way of a hiding place nearby so resorted to the hint. Hmmm, what could it mean? After a couple of minutes ferreting around I realised, and there was the cache. Very clever, worth a FP. Signed log, popped the cache back and headed off on the steeper part of the ride to Summit.
Thanks for a clever hide Jodanz.

Today was mainly for geocaching but last year we did the WRC cycle trip to Cross Creek. That is ideal as they have a bus and a truck for transporting bikes waiting at the far side.
This is a cunningly crafted cache that is invisible in place. Well done.

FTF at 10:00am. I saw on Sunday that this one had been published and while I would have really enjoyed going for a bike ride then, the day was already committed. So I decided I would go this morning, before the predicted wind got up and before it became too warm for comfort. A pleasant and easy half-hour bike ride from the car park, a few minutes' checking likely places, and the clever hide was discovered. Nicely done! I'm glad I wasn't any later, as on the way back I passed several primary school classes of kids on bikes with teachers and parents at strategic intervals, all heading towards where I had come from. There must have been well over a hundred of them! Signed log, and thanks for an enjoyable cache
