The cache description was touching, so decided to make a detour on my way down from Mt Feathertop to Harrietville. Trying to do the last ~120m at right angles to the trail turned out to be difficult, so did the sensible route of following the ridge line back down to the trail. Lovely big container was spotted instantly.
Found this cache with PPE on a early morning climb to Mt Feathertop. We found an easy spur to the monument and walked the required distance to the cache. The cache was in good condition and I did the legals and replaced as found, TFTCMCheers dkmacca
Fantastic walk out to Mt Feathertop, after which we took the prominent spur up to the memorial. Some simple back bearings and numbers landed spot on GZ for an easy find.Gets a fave point.SL TFTC
I’ve been up to this spot a number of times in summer and winter. Great views from this location and a sad story about poor Molly. TFTC.
Never even noticed the cairn up here until it was pointed out by this geocache. Thank you! Some practical items in the swag right now. The Cool Bananas stamp was a hit with me
Heading out to Mt Feathertop today and the weather was supposed to be ok but typical alpine conditions didn't pay much attention to the forecast as it was quite foggy so no views!! Anyway it wasn't windy so that was a bonus. Unfortunately we couldn't see 50m so although I knew where we were supposed to head to we just headed down to camp for the night. Don't worry I will be back!
after tackling the summit of feathertop, this was the next go-to spot
after a snippet of the razorback track, we of course ended up taking the not-so-easy route to the summit of molly hill
alpine bush sure knows how to counterattack
but whatever way you get there, the views are worth the toil
this is a fine cache: a fitting and considered tribute
thanks for highlighting this tragic story
and the potent reminder of the danger of the alps
(it’s perhaps also worth noting that the cairn gradually deteriorated before it collapsed in 2016. it was then rebuilt by a stonemason from wangaratta who returned it to its former glory)

On the way back from to the Mt Feathertop. We went to GZ first and enjoyed the view over the mountains. Then we adjusted our bearing and went to the final GZ. Little bit off track we loved it. An other view over the Mt Feathertop.
TFTC +1 favourite point.

During our holiday road trip in the high country victoria. It was a very nice and surprising trip in this part of the Australian Alps. Some highlights were the Mt Bogong, Mt Feathertop also called " Queen of the Alps", Mt Buffalo and Mt Buller.

Thanks for the adventure. I climbed the peak on a beautiful sunny afternoon. It was peaceful and the views were wonderful. The flora was beautiful and it was nice to see the cairn that is the tribute to Mollie.
This was our third for the day on our hike to feathertop and surrounds. We had dropped off all our stuff off at federation hut and set up camp and so we decided to do our water run to the nearby spring, go to the summit of feathertop and do this cache all in one go. So we first climbed all the way up here. Thankfully I had done the waypoint projection earlier so we just kept going until we made it to GZ. The cache was found easily and signed. Had plenty of time to admire the stunning views before heading down again. TFTC fav point from me once I save up enough.
After a very pleasant stroll along the Razorback, I had finally come to the end and turnaround point. I had already worked out the projection previously, so I went straight to GZ, which turned out to be the most difficult approach when you are coming from the Hotham end...
So after a stack of huffing and puffing, I made it to the top and GZ, and there was no way I was going to miss this one, that is quite the container!
With log book signed, I packed everything back up and wandered down to the lunch stop under the shade of the tree at the intersection, and to be entertained by a group of 4 ladies who were all decked out in the newest gym activewear. They (all) told me about how they came across a snake back down the trail which gave them a hell of a lot of excitement...but I reckon that snake must have been absolutely stone deaf in every way to not hear this lot coming.....a herd of stampeding elephants have nothing on the gaggle of half-caffe-skinny-mocha-frotha-whateverachino lot here! After they wandered off at the speed of chatter, I settled down in the shade and enjoyed a nice quiet lunch.....eventually......

Another great day outside! The weather was perfect for a hiking tour - sunny, around 15 degrees. And the lady from the visitor center had highly recommended to go for this trail. Indeed, she was right Our car was number 3 on this day, others followed later. We met a few families and couples and in the way back a group, who wanted to stay overnight. It's really a nice full-day tour. On the way, we also searched for geocaches
After a nice break at the summit, we walked back. As the coordinates of this letterbox had been fixed before, we could directly continue to the place. This is a sad story - poor Mollie! Thanks for the letterbox!
We took the TB, that has stayed since March.

With an event planned at the peak of Mount Feathertop, we left early morning in anticipation of a big day. Loaded up with plenty of provisions, we hit the trail with a handful of caches in mind. We were lucky to find all of them on a very satisfying day indeed. The scenery was amazing, a photo opportunity everywhere you looked !! We were very drained by days end, but the experience we had was priceless.
Even though we were closing in on the peak, what's one more detour hey ?? A short stroll to gz and the great sized container was found. Wow, what a great haul of swag as well.. Some great views was an added bonus here. TFTC Ausyowie

After a few months of planning to tackle Mt. Feathertop the time was now here for us to take on the trail. The Geo wife, DAB and myself set off early to make the 22km round trip. We had plenty of things packed for a full day out and had wanted to grab the caches along the way. We had a great day out with clouds rolling in and everywhere around us but allowed us to see the amazing views from the trail. Great company made the day a lot of fun.
With the projection taken care of quickly, it was now about finding the cache. The geo wife stayed on the trail for a rest while we decided to climb some more, why not, what's another hill climb with over 24kms travelled for the day. The cache was spotted from a distance as we walked to it. Nicely stocked cache.
**Thanks to Ausyowie for hiding this cache for us to find and enjoy**

This was a nice quick find once I finally read the description and not relied on what I thought was the answer. Oops. Idiot. Great cache. I’ll come back with a FP which is well deserved. Didn’t take anything but left a travel bug. The skies were darkening and the wind was picking up so I scurried back to the safe embrace of MUMC Hut before the rain came.
OMG!!!! I have never seen such swag before. Best left for those who may really need it.
Heading outdoors with my Beechworth year 11 Outdoor Ed class for an overnight hike to Mt Feathertop.
This year we’re joined by the Myrtleford class and we’re heading along the Razorback instead of Bungalow Spur so of course I’m going to pick up a few caches as we go.
The last find of the day. I took a short detour before heading to the hut to set up camp. I figured a location for this cache before leaving home and dropped a pin. I was pretty happy when I found the cache within 5 meter of my guess!
TFTC at really great viewing point of the surrounding high mountains

TFTC. Found with Tony Toad.
Went to coords yesterday the rain, then hunkered down at Federation and read on!
Found this morning in beautiful sunshine.

Today was the day. Yep, just an ordinary day for some, but for me this was something very special.
It started three years ago really. Three years ago I tried to climb Mt. Bogong. I was very unfit and no endurance and basically cramped up at the hut so I was forced to turn back. The year after I swore I would do it and do it I did. I had built up the endurance and made it to the top of The Big Fella.
As I stood at the top, a shroud of fog suddenly cleared and I was treated to an amazing vista. Across in the distance was another peak, one at almost the same height as Mt. Bogong. That of course was Mt. Feathertop. I swore I would get to the top of that too.
So here I was. I had no car shuttle so my options were a walk in and return down the same path and I chose to do it along the Razorback. This was simply based upon the views that everyone raved about.
I walked along the Razorback, sometimes powering along, sometimes just standing there with my jaw hitting the ground. This is a stunning part of the world, certainly different to the flat, dry, brown Wimmera that I come from.
The weather, well it was perfect. What else can I say! The colours of the surrounding mountains, from deep blue to green was amazing and the sky was the sort of blue that words really can't describe.
I followed the instructions for this letterbox cache almost to the T and was rewarded with some amazing views. Now getting up the final hill....there has to be a proper way. Well I didn't find it! I did a little bush bashing up the slope, but walked back down to see the memorial too.
The cache was soon found, logged and I was on my way.

In a trip to feather top and down bungalow spur tomorrow. Thought I would check out sites and marched straight up to mollies monument not reading instructions properly. Not to worry figured it out and found it without going to the letter box

After a visit to the summit there was enough time to drop by this cache. A much harder approach was taken to GZ with the easier way spotted on the return leg to Federation Hut. Wow what an interesting location and history with very scenic views. There were clear conditions this afternoon on the hike over the Razor back, really enjoyed that not too hard or easy either, just the right amount of distance for my legs today. Thank you so much for bringing me here today and placing this cache. Favorite[^]

A weekend adventure including hiking Mt. Feathertop for an overnight stay then back down before heading across to Mt. Buffalo for some more fun.
The hike to the hut was fantastic and the scenery amazing. One of my most favourite hikes to date. Of course we had to pause to find this cache making our way to the top of Feathertop.
Thanks Ausyowie.
A fav for me.

What a wonderful weekend in the Vic High Country, as Jacko, Timmo and I headed north-east to meet up with fellow adventurers for some crazy geocaching expeditions. Mt Feathertop and Mt Buffalo were our main target areas, and the adventures included technical tree climbs, camping, overnight hikes, serious elevation changes, cave swims, underground rivers, and a whole lot of fun!
On our way to Mt Feathertop for a CITO event we took some breaks from the views to pick up some caches . Leaving the heavy packs at the junction we made our way around a lot easier.
Now this is a memorial we would never have known about were it not for caching!
Despite the sad story we still had a smilie moment on Mollie Hill.
Thanks for the letterbox cache, Ausyowie. What a great place to be at sunset!

While in a group of keen hikers making our way to Feathertop we stopped by here, done what needed to be done and made our way to the cache, what an interesting and sad story about what happend here, its good to see a monument to recognize the tragedy.
Thanks Ausyowie for the cache and history lesson.

Out trekking along the razorback track to Mt Feathertop and then Federation Hut to stop for the night with a large group. Great fun but as this cache points out you need to be prepared. The Tritonz and Buhfuhguh made the retrieval after bush bashing their way up the hill.
Thanks for the cache Ausyowie.
Thanks for the cache Ausyowie.
Today with Timmo98, Pacman, Jarwillo, Sedgewick Dave, Ahomburg, Quarsar3671, Tritonz, McLookers and BuhFuhGuh we ventured our way out along the Razorback to arrive at the most stunning location in Victoria. We felt alive! Well, especially me who stood on a brown snake walking up the track - bastard literally wriggled under my foot.
I then headed back to do this cache and catch up with the others who were up ahead. Thought i was going Little Feathertop but turns out not, the calves thanked me. I found the trail and made my way to the monument and the cache. The other guys seemed to have missed it and had a bit of a bush bash going up
A very sad story here, and having walked this the first time the thought crossed my mind many a time of what it'd be like to walk this in winter with such steep slopes. These areas come with majestic beauty and high risk at all times.
Thanks Ausyowie for sharing this story and spot and for placing a cache out here for us to enjoy. See you out in the field someday - Jacko

I had been looking forward to this extended weekend for some time, especially as I had not visited Mount Feathertop for some time. With a CITO event on the mountain tonight, a group of enthusiastic cachers gathered for the hike across the razorback.
One last stop on the way to the Hut, a special place here. Love it. One of the best places in Victoria. FP for the location.
Many thanks to Ausyowie for the cache. TNLN.

In the area with a large group, we did our calculations and made our way to the cache. The Tritonz and buhfuhguh got made the find. The monument was of great interest too. Thanks Ausyowie, spectacular views today.
After climbing the summit of Feather top this cache was next on the list of things to do. Upon our adventure the cairn was found and what a view it had from it. I am really loving this part of the state and cannot wait to travel out this way a lot more in the near and distant future. Soon enough we were headed to GZ and that cache was soon in our hands and signed in the appropriate order. With the sun setting in the horizon it was time to leave and continue to the hut.
Either way the whole day was a magnificent experience and I cannot wait to explore more of this amazing country, thanks for the cache and the adventure.

Wow - am I glad I got out of bed. A rugged storm is brewing, but I got to Fed Hut and just had to find the letterbox! Feathertop is spectacular as usual and remnants of snow add to the contrast. I'll confess to not having a compass as I've been coming up here for 35 years and it's a relatively quick retreat if needed. I've also been to the Cairn so an educated guess did the trick. Having said that, the notes and the story of Mollie is a reminder it changes quickly. The swag of course is appropriate- I left some compeed and a Hoppet badge as I did not come up prepared for such a large container. TFTC and luring me up again! Well, first drops of rain so I'm out of here.
