A very interesting day in what some people call the outer Eastern suburbs of Melbourne! We worked on collecting more senior karate belts, searched for bunyips around billabongs, remembered the fallen who had served our country in wars past and tried hard not to be side tracked by those interesting old stations.
We negotiated a "trail' without getting too wet, but the cache hasn't been so lucky. Found the cache lying in a small water course. Moved to higher ground but the contents are soaked.

Thanks to S_38 for placing caches in interesting locations.

No track, true bush bashing

29-Mar-22
Time to head home from this road trip. Stopping along the way in Bunyip, Garfield and a few other spots as well as a late afternoon check in at Lysterfield.

This was quite an interesting journey into GZ, trying to find a path through the bush. I managed to navigate a creek bed and animal tracks to land at GZ and make the quick find.

Thanks S_38 for placing this gamepiece in the wild for us to find.

Out with xambo4u and BoabTree we returned today to complete the Auslan puzzle series and other caches in the Garfield area.
We enjoyed the walk along the track, but the jungle was just that. Bushbashing was the go, with no trail to follow. My phone dropped from the pocket, but fortunately found it by ringing it. The co-ords were spot on. Thanks S_38

This was such a saga. We parked at the suggested location and followed the trail to the trailhead. Then we bush bashed out way through medium density bush . There were blackberry thorns and sharp edged grass to contend with. Fortunately no wading was required, so we soldiered on to GZ. The cache was found and then Echidna44 announced that she had dropped her phone on the way. A search was mounted, ringing the phone and honing in on it. Fortunately neither the cache not the phone were hard to find. I shall not forget this cache, it was quite an adventure.

Out with and about withy echidna44 and Boab Tree Thinking we would like to do this series but already had two DNF's along our way. This one is true to its name but the rating should be higher. Had it in mind to come from the main road but decided to take the easier way as we were up for a little walk which was good. It was the last final meters that was the challenge. No real geo trail to follow so we ploughed through to GZ. Least there were on blackberries to worry about. Got to GZ and co ords were excellent even under cover. Log book VERY wet, made our make though. Then we noticed that one of us had lost of our phone. We tracked it down by ringing it and we soon had it in hand. Wish we could do that with our keys. Once we got back on track it was a quick walk back to the car. We did not enjoy this experience at all but got the clue. Nice area for the horses here. Thanks for the challenge S_38 that is one place we would never thought of going.

Parked the car at the school and went back along the road. Surely not in here, it was a jungle alright. We were only about 45 metres away.
I should have read the cache page about parking and trailheads.
Anyway I did come across a trail that led us in. Phone coords were bouncing around but we got pretty close and started looking at some landmark spots. People have been in here by some rubbish. I stood at a small water way and scanned around. out of the corner of my eye i spotted a likely container. Just lucky, lucky, lucky as it was half covered, Log signed and back safe as found. Thanks S 38

I’m trying to fill in some dates on my calendar so this one was today’s. So you’d think I’d know by now to read the description before driving to the cache and starting to walk to it , because at that point you’ve committed too much time to leave it.

I love love love the additional waypoints, it’s not fun for me to spend heaps of time just trying to find the right spot to park and the trailhead location gave me the confidence to continue the search, even though I was on my own and it was not what I was expecting.

I crossed the moat and wasn’t sure it was a good idea to continue alone, especially while wearing track pants with no pockets to stash my keys and pen while I bashed through the bush. A third of the way through the trees I was going to turn back lest I fall over, drop my phone and end up being eaten by a bunyip, but I was in too deep and just hoped it would be a quick find at the end. I was worried at GZ but found the container out in the open on the ground very quickly, phew. It was in good condition and I popped it where I thought it should’ve been based on the hint.

Then a bush bash back out, geez some of those trees are close together and ended up going a different (faster) way back as usual and was finally back in the warm car and safe from bunyips and carnivorous ground covers.

Thanks S_38 for the mini adventure after a long day at work nearby.

Tftc S-38. Trusty phone sized for a few minutes but eventually came back to life. Eyes too high for a while but once lowered, found pretty quickly. No recent rain so the footy boots stayed dry.

the river goblins are out of the river and into the jungle!! Watch out for snakes and sword grass and most of have fun! Haha

Today buhfuhguh and I were out around the Cora Lynn and Bunyip area to pick up some local caches with a key focus on the Auslan series.
We ended up with 55 finds and only 2 DNFs which became my largest caching day so far!

My runners are not gumboots, nor hiking boots - in fact, I wasn't sure if my Nikes would make it through the jungle!
Fortunately, we managed to land a day that was overcast enough to scare away the snakes but not raining so we didn't have to deal with much mud.
Still, a fair trek needed to be undertaken to make it in, but buhfuhguh spied the cache soon enough and the logbook was signed!
Thanks to S_38 for placing this cache!

I had been craving a good day of caching for a while now. With my eyes set to try and complete the AUSLAN series, I contacted Brainiac03 to join in and go out on one of my days of.

With all the puzzles solved we were off and ready to smash the series out. With only a handful of DNF's and lots of stop start stop start of my car I was quite happy with how we did.

Sadly we had to cut the day early dude to some last minute babysitting I had to do. Either way thanks for the fun series and all the other caches we did in the area today.

Day1976 and I cached around Bunyip, due to our previous idea having been thwarted by too many people..
Now silly me, bring the navigator I navigated us to the school car park as I didn't see the parking Waypoint. So we figured we would see if there was a way through, and trust kids to get out of school boundaries, there was. Did the short bush bash in to the cache, and found it in some fallen old vines that had started rotting on the ground. Day1976 wedged it off the ground.

Iluka and I's first option was to go caching at Mt Cannibal. But when we arrived the place was packed. car park was full and there were at least 30 cars up and down the street. So we drove past and headed into Bunyip to do the series there.

We totally missed the car parking WP and we parked near the school. We wondered how you were supposed to even get to the trailhead WP until we discovered a trail, obviously made by the students, which even came with a little make-shift bridge. We then followed the trails to the trailhead WP and entered "the jungle". A short bushbash later and we found the cache, lying on the ground, obviously not where it was supposed to be.

It was remarkably dry inside, giving where we had found it, but we replaced it a bit higher up, wedged between two branches. TFTC!

Nice walk through the sticks

It's our last day in Bunyip so after I'd packed up a few things, I decided to come out for a drive and see how many of the Bunyips & Billabongs series of caches I could find. I took along the young lad from the family camped next to us since he seems to be developing into a keen geocacher so far.
I'm too used to finding caches with a reasonable path to GZ so this was a bit of a challenge. We managed to get within 5m of where the cache was hidden according to my iPhone but I wasn't confident since it is notoriously flaky under trees. As I cast about looking in all the wrong places, my young companion discovered the cache where I'd blindly walked past it [:i]

Thanks for find #1606

What a fool I am! I didn't notice the parking coords and spent quite some time searching for access from two other directions. I thought I was very clever when I found this way in.
Man! That was quite hard work just getting to GZ, and then it was well hidden. Lucky I had Crusty K9 with me to find our way out of the jungle again.

Parked at parking coords, then thought we’d try a better way in. Nope. Back to initial wp.
Note to self - shorts and thongs are not conducive to bush-bashing.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.

Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.

Sorry for the late and generic log, something I am notorious for. Thank you S_38for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

After catching up with micaparamedic, we set off to look for this one. It certainly was an interesting place to get to. We looked and looked and then YAY, the cache was in hand, signed and returned to where it was hiding. Thanks for the cache and the stroll in and out. A few horses and their muggles around but not too many.

That was a great bush Bash. Made rookie error of no pen so scribbed name in with my sons pocket knife. Will have to Bash way back in with a pen. Thanks.

**Find #3373**
**Traditional Cache Find #2283**

I headed out this afternoon for an impromptu caching run with SteMicMitSar before this evenings event in Beaconsfield. We attempted this cache earlier in the afternoon, but there were muggles in the pony club and so we left and returned later when it was deserted. We were a little undecided as to the best way to the trailhead but eventually found some reasonable tracks. The bush bash from there to GZ was overcome and then the search began. We resorted to the hint and tried to decipher it. As it turned out, we had the right idea, but just didn't look hard enough until Steve did just that and came up with the prize.

*23 Dec 2018, Found @ 7:08 pm, Find # 8646.*

Today I headed out with biggles1024 to find a few caches before heading to tonight's event in Beaconsfield and we decided to tackle this series.
We actually went to look for this one first but as there were a few people at the pony club and more were arriving, we decided to come back a bit later and it turned out to be the last of the 10.
We started making our way towards the trailhead not really knowing if the way we were going was the correct way or not but as it turned out the way we went seemed to be the best way.
We arrived at the trailhead and then bush bashed our way to GZ where the search began.
The hint was consulted but it wasn’t really that helpful but eventually the cache was uncovered and the log was signed.

**Thanks to S_38 for placing this cache.**

Well this was definitely an experience!!
I had found the parking area without mishap, parked the car and then headed off to the trail head.
There are multiple paths to follow, so the GPS came in handy to point me I the right direction. When I got to the trail head I saw something that I remembered reading about in the description.
From that point on I was 'Bush bashing'. I had my trusty GPS and a pen in my pocket, nothing else. I slowly made my way to GZ trying not to fall and break my neck, as noone would find me off the beaten path!
Once at GZ I used the hint as there were so many places to look. With a sigh of relief I found what I was looking for, signed the log and bashed my way back to the trail head and finally my car!!
NOTE: I drove into the pony club as the gate was open and I assumed it was public property.
While I was sitting in my car logging the cache a pony club lady came up to me and said she almost locked me in!! Apparently the gate is usually locked unless a pony club event is on. Luckily the woman can to let me know she was locking the gate, or I may still be locked in!!

Away for the weekend wtith omegaman and Happy pants, cleaning up some in the Drouin area, signing the logs under the team name HHO. Decided to stop and grab this series, as we start to head towards home. After getting the clues for a nearby multi, we decided to go for a walk and grab this one. It was a bit of a slog to get into this one. Can see why it's call the jungle because at places it certainly was. Eventually found our way to GZ, where after a bit of a search, we were able to find the well hidden contatiner. Signed the log and grabbed the clue. Now we see the easier path out.Razz Visited a travel bug while here.

I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. As of the start of 2018 my average was only 47 words per log, which seems a long way from the 100 target. Given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After over 7000 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 50 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before the end of next year. It's surprising how much is has increase since doing this.

Thanks S_38 for placing the cache for us to find.

Out and about with the Happy's on our annual birthday weekend away.
Was great to be finally tackling this series after hearing about it.
Why is it you always find the best way on the way out?
Nice hide.
Cheers for the cache

22-Jul-18
Welcome to the jungle! This one was the hardest slog in the series to get to (so far) and after eventually getting to the gz we spotted this well concealed hide after a minute and had it logged. We found a more suitable path out of the scrub which is generally always the way, "bush bash into a cache and then stumble upon a easier path on the way out". Thanks again S_38 for the nice little hide.

Found On a Good Friday caching trip with Ski Pair, We travelled to do the Space Endeavour series and then picked up the Bunyips & Billabongs series on the way back to Warragul. We should of read the sescription for the trail head, we bush bashed our way in. Thanks S_38 for the cache

Today we set off with Rebel Acts with the intent of making a sever dent in the current Space Challenge.
We began with the Space Endeavour series, making an early start and successfully completed all of it in pretty quick time. We then decided to cache our way back home, trying to focus on caches that both of us had not found.
After finding a number of caches on our way, with the freeway as an interruption we arrived at this series we had set our sights on. This was the first.
We found no easy way to access this cache so finally decided on the direct approach and made our way to GZ. Luckily we were able to make a quick find, and the path out seemed much quicker and direct.

Found on 7 Jan 2018 at 2:03 pm.
It had been a few weeks since Fleabag and I had headed out on a caching afternoon so we planned a couple of required D/T square caches and then did some free-styling of the area after that and ended up doing the excellent Bunyips and Billabongs series. Had a great time with no DNF's but quite a lot of flies at times.

Gee we made this hard for ourselves on the way in. We parked in the car park near the school and we went nearly all the way to the trail head directly through the bush which took a while until we realised we were only 10m from the path!
A short bush bash to the cache then ensued and the way out was much easier via the newly mowed path.
Thanks S_38 for the cache, the adventure, the hunt and the fun.

Spiffy- and I headed out for an afternoon caching. We had a couple of planned caches in the area and as we had a ladder and change of clothes we were ready for anything.... except all the flies. The Bunyip series looked like a good idea so off we went. We made hard work of this one and found it after collecting a few scratches for our efforts. Thanks to S_38 for placing this cache.

I had a once of job in Garfield, which started 5 years ago, but have kept doing the once of job ever since, its way out of my way, but that's another story. I was doing the job when the rain started, and it kept coming so to wet to work, check out the map and there is a cache or 2 just down the road. Ok, I can go to the Parking waypoint and walk for miles or park at the nearest point and walk a short distance, I wonder which I did. Fence what fence, Soon at GZ and cache signed and making my way back to the work vehicle. TFTC

Gates locked found a spot opposite the gate that wasn't to wet , headed towards the
cache no bunyips the biggest animals in the jungle that were watching me on the
way in were a couple of rather large wild rabbits lucky when we came face to face
they didn't attack. After pushing through some creeping vines and a bit of scrub
what I was looking for was located. Thanks S_38 FTC,

4th visit to this location, as each other time the Pony club has had people, cars and horses in attendance. Today the last horse float was just leaving as I arrived.
Just myself today with the boys still sleeping and the girls exercising. I certainly got my exercise walking to the gz. Enjoyed walking along the horse trail, and jumping some of the easier jumps, then enjoyed the bush near the end.
What I didn't enjoy was looking for the cache for an hour. After 30 minutes, sent a help request. Even with the reply was still not getting anywhere. Was able to give up when the rain starting pouring again. At least it was dry under the pine trees, so I took the time to resync and reboot the GPS.
On reboot, it said the GZ was able 30-50 meters away. After slowly making make way over a nice hide was found, exactly as the help requests said. FYI for the next finders, if you get to the long line of Pine Trees, you have gone to far.
Thanks for the help guys, and for the cache S_38.

It's a jungle out there.
All sorts of creatures abound; real, imagined or mythical.
I spied a pair of Tritonz, lurking in the jungle.
He had one wet foot and she had a big smile. Cool
Some signs of bunyips nesting nearby. [^]
No black panthers were seen but they may have watched us searching for the fabled {FTF} Smile
