Nature is just amazing. I sometimes wish I could watch a time lapse of how it all happened TFTEC, really got us all thinking!
Blink and you'll miss this stop on a road trip. With little to no traffic to contend with, parked close to the earthcache for a look. It seems seeing moon rocks wild and free is not the norm as many moon rocks are domesticated, sometimes painted and adorn the gardens of western homes. The closets similarities for coastal homes is the the placement of gnomes. Good stop to stretch the legs before making our way to Longreach. Cheers Team Crackers for a worthwhile stop.
I had seen these rocks before a bit to the north of here. Logging in order - answers will be sent soon! TFTC!
We have seen some great specimens of these moon rocks on our travels (a couple of good ones at the Middleton pub), so thanks for highlighting their creation for us. Not sure about the quality of our answers, but theyve been sent. Thanks for the geology lesson and an interesting earthcache.
No, we are not in Qld today but we forgot to log this when we were. Sorry about that. Absolutely love the Calcareous Concretions. We had never seen nor heard of them before caching showed them to us. Thanks for this great cache.
It has been brought to my attention that this cache was not yet logged, apologies. Thank you for the permission to do so. Love this natural occurrence. It is something that we hadn't seen before caching showed us and taught us about them. Thank you for this earth cache.
Sorry for the delay, I have been away for 3 months and am just now catching up on my logs. There are some that I forget about.Answers have been sent.Interesting to learn about that.fav from me.Thank you, Team Crackers, for placing the earthcache.

On completion of QOGM, we headed out to the Outback Way on a road trip to Mount Isa going via Boulia. My geo friends on this adventure are RoddyC, hatzofff, and grannysmith1947.Couldn't believe how the CO found these unusual rocks and created an earthcache, good spotting Answers were sent as requested.Thank you, Team Crackers, for finding this little gem in the middle of nowhere
QOGM is over, so now is the opportunity to take a few days bresk and head to Mount Isa via Boulia with hatzofff, Grannysmith1947 and Snickersallan. As we were passing by, I remembered there was a EC here, so turned around and drove over. We have seen these at quite a few locations around Queensland and now we have been able to answer the questions for this Earth Cache.
It looks like there may be evidence of shells within these moonstone.
Thanks for the stop and interesting geological site

Enjoyed the stop here for this Earthcache. Wasn’t so sure at what I was looking at at first, but as I inspected it all a little more closer it was super interesting. Took a bunch of pictures before jumping back in the car and heading off.
Thoroughly enjoyed our drive with the area so green and some beautiful scenery. This earthcache featured the interesting moon rocks and we enjoyed our stop and collecting the info. Thanks Team Crackers.
Lovely lushes greenery as we travelled east and missed it and turned around and travelled west and the moon shone!
Wow wow so interesting
I never knew about this
Beautiful highway and drive flat

Was finally able to get away on my 2021 trip up to outback Qld.
The original plan was to go up through NSW but that got changed on the morning of the departure so up through SA it was.
Was very apprehensive about towing the new van up the Birdsville track but my only other option was to stay home.
Well the caravan has made it up the track and after Bedourie, Boulia for the Camel racing it was time to head to Winton for a couple of days.
Cruising along the road listening to the radio I realised that there was another earth cache here.
Hitting the brakes suddenly was not an option so I pulled up a few hundred metres up the road.
A walk back with a few waves to some other travellers passing by.
Found what I was looking for interesting rocks.
Logging with permission.
Thanks Team Crackers TFTC.

I love these rocks. On the way from Winton to Boulia someone has positioned and painted a couple to look like boobs. I have sent my answers to the CO and hope they are ok.
There didn't seem much to look at here until we got really close and spotted the boulders. A good excuse to stretch the legs and discuss their origin. Answers sent. Thanks for the cache
On a roadtrip from mount isa in good company.

Sadly we found zero moon rocks at the listed GZ, which is two hundred metres off the road. And zero within 100 metres.
However 400 metres east near the road on the south side there are lots. Try there
We used that spot to answer the questions.

At first we thought this’s one was a spoof and that what we were looking for was cow patties! But Lo and behold they really were around as described. Some were other than at the go but you would expect that I guess. What a great earthcache. We loved it as well as the explanation of something we hadn’t noticed before!
It was great coming up on this cache on our trip across from Winton. We went to the coords as per our IPhone which turned out to be about 150m off the road and not a rock except for the small ironstone pebbles to be seen. Only circular object were the cow patties and and thought this may have been a humorous cache and was thinking how to answer your question using the cow patties. Fortunately travelling further along the moon rocks became obvious. Enjoyed this cache and the information gleaned. Thanks for taking the time to put this out.
Passing through the area we stopped and searched for moon rocks. Non were visible at the posted GZ so looked further afield and after reading previous logs we happened upon 3 large moon rocks which is what we based our answers on. Co ords have been sent to CO along with our answers.
Thanks Team Crackers for creating this earthcache and the lesson on Moon Rocks.

Fascinating! I'd noticed a few of these rocks around the place, but never really thought about them. Now I'll be seeing them everywhere!
I've really enjoyed my travels in this area - a place I've wanted to get to for many years. And all these caches are a bonus!
Thanks Team Crackers for (another) interesting earthcache and the quick response to my emailed answers.

Found with DeeJay66 on our way from Alice Springs to Brisbane. According to our GPS and my iPhone the coordinates are 343 meters out. TFTC

I've been to the Birdsville races with muggle friends and we are heading towards Winton today. As they are muggles and in a bit of a hurry, I won't be getting all of the caches. However, this one meets the requirements for a spot in a well-travelled-cacher challenge I am getting close to completing, and they agreed to pull over for me to get the answers for this earthcache, which I am quite fascinated by also. It is truly an amazing countryside out here and has given birth to or revealed some amazing features and formations.
I sent my answers rhrough to the CO and am now logging this FTF with permission.
Thanks for this earthcache, I learned a lot and have loved being in this outback space. A favourite point from me.
