That was very worth the visit. I had this on our list for a while. Earlier this year we house sat at St Ives chase, we saw it on the map in the area, unfortunately we didn't get there. Today we went with daughter and son-in-law, with 6 month old grandson, who was trying out his new hiking back pack. Both dad and son were very happy with it.We had started with cold wet weather so we hit the information centre, then drove to the discovery centre. By the time we were ready to walk the rain had stopped. We walked the short loop outside of the discovery centre. We then headed back to the information centre cafe, had lunch. Then off to the Sphinx a beautiful setting, back in the car by which time baby needed a sleep .Will be coming back to walk and picnic more when the grandchildren are older That for bringing us here.
Stopped by today, was a shame to have to pay entry fee when we only had time to visit the sphinx but glad we did anyhow as this is a very unusual sight to see! Looked like a group were about to take off hiking which made me kinda jealous. Great virtual, thanks for highlighting this unusual spot! FP from me
A bonus cache at the start of our daywalk down the Sphinx Trail to Cowan Creek, then to Bobbin Head and back via Cockle Ck. TFTC - mast of HMAS Adelaide next to the Sphinx and pyramids still to be re-erected.
Found during a run along the warrimoo, sphinx and Bobbin head trails.I've cycled through the park in the past but never stopped at the sphinx. Thanks for the virtual
I definitely should have read the description for this one again before paying to get into the park where I spent about 5 minutes. Oh, well. Live and learn. At least I didn't have to walk as far, right? The spinx was being services by some workmen. I managed to get a selfie with the worker behind my head. LOLThank you for the smiley and the fun!The day:After spending two great days in the Blue Mountains, it was time to move on down (up) the road. I was visiting from the U.S. and had a goal of driving all the way up to Port Douglas over the next couple of weeks. I had set a long travel day that included the oldest cache in Australia. I tried to leave early enough to make it to my destination before dark. It was close and required some on the fly adjustments. Many thanks to all the geocachers who placed and continue to maintain their geocaches for folks like me to find. I know it's not always easy, but know that I appreciate you.
6 months ago, during a frenzy, we said to ourselves "why not going to the mega in Adelaide for the leapday". From scratch we moved on to preparing an 18-day project in Australia. Our objectives are simple, visit a small part of this immense continent while validating a few caches. There are so many caches (impossible to do everything) that we will select. Our plan will allow us to visit Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Mount Gambier and finish in Adelaide for the famous Mega.During our stay we will log PestiHoot for Pestinette and Blackhoot.Second day, we take our car to visit north of Sydney. Our circuit is planned based on caches selected for their D/T, their installation date, or the PFs received. We will discover fauna and flora different from ours. We will be surprised to come across dragons. Thanks to the caches we visited many sites evoking Australian culture and history. Thanks for the cache and the discovery of beautiful or original spots

We're house sitting for a few days just down the road and were keen to come and see this monument. Since it was after 5pm, we parked just outside the gates and walked down the road, dodging the red-bellied black snake sun-baking on the road as we went . This is a fascinating monument. It's amazing how creative people can be. Thanks for find #5329TNLN
I have never been here before! Great spot for a virtual. Thanks for the smiley.
Drove down here straight after work, am absolutely blown away, and nice to see it had restoration work that was dedicated on ninth November 1995, in recognition of the selflessness and sacrifices of the members of the AIF.
Out caching with GeoIan today and this was our target cache to qualify for the latest challenge. Wow what an incredible location and the story behind it is amazing . Def fav point for the great location . Thanks for the cache
Enjoying a Friday afternoon cache trip with Mighty Minions. This was a target cache today, that we neeeded for the monthly challenge, and not quite my closest of its type to home. It was interesting to read the story at home, but then to see the scale of the work was amazing. Thanks for bringing us here today. Fav from me.
Wow. Another amazing spot that I would not have known about if it wasn't for geocaching. Mr Bloopy solo again. It was very still and peaceful here this afternoon. I took a moment to enjoy the serenity. Thanks for bringing me here.
Wifey and I did the 11km Bobbin Head loop walk today starting here. Got the GCA virtual many years ago so this was my second visit to the Sphinx. Beautiful day for a hike.
I found this a while ago, not sure of the date, not sure how I forgot to log the find.

An amazing part of the Australian history,
to see what the ex digger has done to create. This is just amazing and it’s nearly 100 years old.
Thanks for bringing that here to do this virtual cash and favourite point from us.
This is why we enjoy Geocaching .
It takes us to so many different places around Australia to see thank you

This is impressive! I probably wouldn't have come here if it wasn't for Geocaching, thanks Digby23.
We were here today on our NSW coast leg of our ‘Around Australia’ trip.
We set off back at the start of 2021 expecting to go around Australia in 12 months - here we are still going in 2023 with about 1/3 of the island left to lap.
My (Geo Mum) personal Favourite experience: Too many to choose, Finding Gold and Opal high up there, working on a CQ cattle station was awesome too.
Favourite location: Gibb River Road/ Kimberley closely followed by Nhulunbuy/ Arnhem Land.
Best paid activity: Horizontal falls
Best free activity: Kings Canyon Rim Walk, Matt Wright putting us up for free in one of his helicopters was pretty awesome. (Let’s not talk about his current situation )
Most interesting location. Arnhem Land
What you have learnt: I wish I had something insightful to put in here, if I though really hard about it perhaps I do but I guess the most practical things I learnt are: Mango sap burns, midges are xxxx’s and dog beds are a versatile alternative to real furniture.
Miss the most: Family & Friends, closely followed by my garden and my chooks.
Look forward to the most: The Whitsundays
Regrets? Worrying so much and not heading off years ago!

*Sorry for the copy and paste log but I’m notorious for getting behind with logs and fluffing them up!

I love geocaching and the interesting places it takes me. A great story and sphinx! Even better because I know the Tatt2squared family. Looks like it’s crying today and trying not to drown. Thanks for the virtual
First proper visit here despite living nearby.
We were lucky with some sunshine too.

Parked outside the gates where a large number of cars were queued up to get into the park.
Bit of a walk in and found ourselves at the very interesting memorial. Required photos taken, and a interesting history lesson under the belt, and we were ready to begin the steep descent to the Warrimoo track.
Thanks for the virtual Digby23!

Thanks for this cache! A pleasant ride from the entrance to the park along the trail to Bobbin Head and back, collecting this with a small detour.
After I cooked Christmas lunch for 9 people I needed to get out so I thought I would trek over to Kuring-Gai to see if I could find some butterflies. For some reason this area was dead and I got paranoid about the gate being shut so had a sweetly walk up the hill.
Had been here once before but always interesting to see the memorial.
Scanned the page a number of times to see if I had to answer anything but seems a photo is all that is needed.

Enjoyed a beautiful walk along the sphinx trail. Hadn’t seen the Sphinx memorial before so it was a nice spot to stop and learn!
Having worked from home all week without getting outside, it was definitely time for a short bush walk. This virtual allowed me to combine my outdoor exercise with the safest of cache types. I've been coming here for years and really love the quirkiness of this unusual monument. TFTC.

Easter Saturday, and most of Sydney is a bit frantic, but super peaceful here at 4pm even though cars are still queueing to get into Ku-Ring Gai.
I had lived in Sydney for years before I found out about this and came and had a look. No geocaches back then. Thanks for bringing me back.

Spied this Virtual on the map whilst I was in the area finding some bucket list caches, and made the detour to grab it for the semi-rare icon!
Didn't realise this was in a paid national park however, so stopped short when I noticed the toll booth I was approaching, and was pretty excited when I saw it was only 300 metres into the park! So parked just outside the gates and made the short walk down!
Thanks Digby23!

I've known about this sphinx for a long time, but never seen it, until today. I was planning to drive it, but when I saw the $12 entry fee I turned around, parked, and walked in. I'm happy to support NPWS, but I also happy to get exercise. Quite a nice little area here, with a flagpole that is actually a ship's mast. Note that you can also log this one at Geocaching Australia - see [https://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga3431](https://geocaching.com.au/cache/ga3431) TFTC

What a world we currently live in. As people are still free to exercise, rode out here this AM via Bobbin Head and the National Park. A few other bike riders about doing similar. Its such a fun ride down the hill, a slow slog back up. Gates were open and I was only person there. Kept my social distance from the head while capturing the photo. Seems we need more of these virtuals! Thanks to CO, award is well deserved. #FUCOVID19
Being leap day it was time to get a few select caches and as we had not done this one yet this was the time. We headed to a familiar spot and clicked away. TFTC.
This afternoon we headed up to North Turramurra to visit the Virtual cache “The Sphinx”, located at The Sphinx memorial, and to make it our 3900th (unofficial) milestone cache find. We also stopped off at a couple of Traditional caches on our way back home. This was the 1st of 3 finds for today.
We have visited The Sphinx memorial many times over the years, and always enjoy our visits to this fascinating structure, so decided it would be a good choice for our 3900th (unofficial) milestone cache find. The story behind the memorial’s creation is very moving, a true “labour of love”, and it was interesting to learn of the “cacher connection” with Mrs Tatt2squared being related to the memorial’s creator.
There were a few other cars in the memorial’s carpark when we arrived, but the memorial was totally deserted, so they all must have been off bushwalking along the nearby tracks. After taking our “selfie” with The Sphinx we spent the rest of the time wandering around the site reading the various plaques & signs and taking more photos, before heading back to the geomobile for the homeward journey.
Thanks Digby23 for bringing us back to The Sphinx for this Virtual cache, and congratulations on being chosen to place one of these limited release Virtual Rewards caches. Favourite point awarded.

Over the the past few years, the Bromance (comprising CrookedPete, Seffnjarah, SwellerFungus and most recently JezNDez) have enjoyed road trips, bushwalking, overnight hikes, mountain climbing, kayaking and other adventures in search of some elusive caches.
The first planned adventure for the brand new decade was a multi day hike in Kosciusko National Park bagging Australia's highest dozen peaks and all nearby caches.
Enroute to our adventure, Australia's bush fire crisis unfolded, and with the Kosciusko region on fire and closed, our plans gradually morphed to a caching road trip back to Queensland, collecting unusual, rare and interesting caches along the way.
We never drive past a virtual and even though one of the team had already found this, we were always going to stop. Some great history. War is awful and I imagine all participants struggle to adjust when it is over. Congratulations on receiving a virtual. Yo have picked A fitting place for it.
Thanks Digby23

On Friday I departed Brisbane on my way south to spend Christmas with some relatives in Vincentia, NSW. I had allowed myself a few days of relaxed travel, which gave me plenty of time to do some caching along the way. Having camped in my car on the outskirts of Newcastle overnight, I was up at daybreak to continue the journey south.
I had originally planned to visit this cache tomorrow but I had finished the rest of my caches on today's to-do list, and with plenty of daylight left, decided on an evening visit. The gates were still open when I arrived at the entry but the designated closing time was only a few minutes away. Not wanting to chance my luck at finding myself locked in, I left the car parked near the entrance, just as another couple of muggles had decided to do, and made the rest of the way in on foot.
The sculpture his is quite an achievement. A worthy location for a virtual cache.
With the required photo taken I headed back to the car to find the gates still wide open. The extra exercise would do me good anyway. TFTC

We were heading up to Nelson Bay for a few days and made a detour for a few virtuals along the way. After visiting ‘Whattarippavista’ we made our across to the ‘sphinx’ we made the last NP minutes before the booth opened but no such luck here $12, but thats ok whats the price of keeping history alive. Jumped out of the car and proceeded down to the well carved out statue. Very well done, the whole area. The geokiddies were taking pics of themselves around the head but I thought I’d take one of the head, our discoverable patch and the namesake rite-in-the-rain pen. Thanks for bringing us here who knows when we’ll be back in the area. Tftc Digby23 this virtual will leep this area alive. Good stuff
An interesting war memorial - kind of eccentric, in a nice way. I had no idea it was here. Which, I guess, is one of the aims of a good Virtual - to get us to boldly go where we haven't already gone.
Thank you Digby23 for bringing me here.

A very interesting and inspiring memorial. It deserves better recognition, especially these days when one reads in the news about the mental tortures our veterans go through. Thanks Digby23 for bringing us here.
Decided to mix up my caching a bit lately by setting specific goals for each caching day. Today's main goal was getting three virtuals. Any additional caches were a bonus. Virtual number two for the day, a quick easy challenge, but a very nice area and very suitable for a virtual.

#4307:
After having completed my exploration of Metropolitan Sydney yesterday, I was stuck with what to do next. I decided to start ticking off the last few Virtual caches on Sydney.
I was pleasantly surprised to see this cache was easy to get to using public transport. I caught a train, then a bus to the entrance of the National Park. Sadly this wasn't quite the tranquil spot I was hoping for! There was a gang of grass cutters at the site making a ruckus. Then, just after I arrived, a car pulled up and a plague of children streamed out and start climbing all over the sphinx. Sigh. I got my photo whilst I could and started walking the Sphinx Track.
Delighted that this was my 100th Virtual Cache found. They are my favourite cache type, and I found my first in May 2015. 68 in the UK, 2 in Ireland, 4 in Spain, 2 in Bulgaria, 4 in Belgium, 3 in France, 3 in Luxembourg, 2 in the Netherlands, 1 in the UAE, and 11 in Australia. TFTC.

We took advantage of the bank holiday (Queen's Birthday) today to visit Bobbin Head in the Ku-Ring-Gai national park. We come here occasionally, and usually also bring overseas guests to this park. On nearly every visit we have exited via North Turramurra. A stop by the sphinx is standard, combined with our obligatory coffee from a flask as the day ends.
It was only recently that I noticed the virtual cache up here, so on this trip I made a point of taking the requisite photo so that I could log the cache.
Interesting that my dad spent the war years growing up in Egypt. I wonder what he would have thought of this memorial, and what stories he would have had to tell about the war (apart from the ones told about his youth in Egypt)?
Perhaps oneday I'll still get to see the real sphinx and the pyramids at Giza, along with some other ancient temples and the Valley of Kings. Egypt is definitely on my bucket list, but will have to wait a bit for now.

A nice virtual in a quiet spot, it was an enjoyable trip around this area. TFTC.
This one was interesting as there were signs about how and why the mini sphinx was built. I liked this one because it was sort of in the bush so it was quite peaceful, it was a nice spot to have lunch. TFTC
Motivated but the need to find another 3 virtuals to qualify for a challege cache, we made our way out to see The Sphinx. We parked outside, and enjoyed the walk in. We enjoyed our lunch on one of the nearby picnic tables - what a lovely little spot.
It was an interesting cache to learn about the origins of The Sphinx, amd indeed that it was made by another cacher's ancestor!
The pictures provided also cover the forthcoming logs by Shoes Junior and Little Shoes

Next on my list for this trip, was this virtual. I was intrigued to see The Sphinx. When I arrived, there were some National Parks workers cleaning the area, the Sphinx and the pyramid. I assumed that they were getting ready for ANZAC Day, but they told me that there was no service held there. :'( Such a pity. I chatted to them for a while about the history here before leaving them to their work. I took quite a few photos here as I found this place so interesting. Thanks for bringing me to this place and TFTC
I'd heard mention of the Sphinx but had thought it was a natural formation. Thanks to this virtual, visited with YGAT on a lovely sunny morning, I am now aware of this important memorial.
Thanks Digby23.
Thanks Digby23.
I have always wanted to see the Sphinx but thought it involved a long walk. I was delighted to find that this was not the case. Congratulations on the limited release virtual Digby23, thanks for establishing it at this interesting location.
On our way fishing we decided to stop off here to grab this virtual. I remember coming in when I was younger with the family. Great spot. See attached group photo on log from Ash. Kate TFTC
