Find No. 4806. Found with FUF009 at 9.30am.A day spent down Skipton, Linton and Smythesdale way finding the caches and doing the three Ad Labs as we went.We also aimed to find the ones on the Rail Trail that were not there last time we done it on our pushbikes. Only difference is - today we are walking them as we left the bikes at home.Went in the van and FUF009 came with us.Another cache not on our To Do list which FUF009 told us was worth doing - so we did, seeing how we were driving past the area. Amazed at what we seen. Driving past you would not realise that once upon a time it was a volcano site. A favourite point given.TFTC chooknchunk

Logging with a generous ok from c/o coz frankly I think our answers sucked.. but we do have a go. The old school days are a distant memory!!! How cool to think this hill that you look at every time you pass was a volcano in the day. This amazing planet never ceases to amaze me. Thanks for the cache and lesson which was really cool

Out & about yesterday with Jenno3 & we were very eager to do this Earthcache. Driving past you would just think it was a hill in the distance so thanks chooknchunk for bringing us to see this. It doesn't matter how old you are there is always something to learn. Answers sent & logging with permission from CO. Tftc

We thoroughly enjoyed driving around this beautiful country. We investigated the mountain and sent off our answers. We then continued to enjoy our drive. Tftc.

26-Jul-24
This proved to be a very interesting earthcache. We would have passed this area by without giving it a second thought if it hadn't been for the earthcache. After looking at the physical features at both sites (albeit from a distance in both cases), we have prepared our answers to the three questions and have forwarded them to the COs. Thanks chooknchunk for a very interesting earthcache - it earns a favourite from us.

Woo hoo. Best earthcache ever. Fav for me. Day 4 in Australia and it was a road trip day. Chooknchunk,Jtee and I were off to the coast and. Working our way towards the Mega. Wow. What a lovely country. The goal for me was the many amazing earthcaches and some cool looking ones nearby. We have found the cachers around here super friendly and helpful. Thanks for the smile

**20/12/2023, 17:49:00****Find #5634****Earth Find #51****Logged with Permission**Day number four of my road trip. I got off to an early start and still the weather is fine, but that's not going to last. I was nearing the end of today's journey but wanted to stop here and attempt this earth cache.I hadn't encountered an Earth Cache like this one and it was certainly very interesting. A little earlier in the day would have been better because then I wouldn't have been looking quite so much into the sun from the second waypoint. I think I'll seek out more EC's that relate to volcanoes now. Smile**Thank-you to chooknchunk for placing this geocache**

12-Sep-23
On my way to Beaufort and then home to Ballarat and stopped here to check out the area. Without the earthcache I'm sure I would have driven straight on. Decided on my answers, which have been sent to CO, and wonder what it may have been like back when it erupted. Lots more evidence that an eruption has occurred as you drive further north.

Thanks for the volcano lesson chooknchunk...something new learnt once again.

11-Feb-23
Either I’m too short or grass to see mound at alternative the WP. This is a feature I may otherwise not have wondered about how/why so good to stop for a lesson but I’d like to get closer. On a monster multi LGA mission and enroute to a wedding but do have an inbuilt schedule to chase down a few near Skipton and it’s hard to bypass an earth cache! TFTC and info

25-Dec-22
We visited this Earthcache back in February, I think, but have had such a topsy Turvey year that I just realised that I hadn’t done the required research and give appropriate thought to the cache. Christmas Day turned out to be a very quiet day, with me recovering from my bout of Covid-19 and TEM just testing positive! I took the opportunity between bouts of tiredness.
Out in the Western District there are numerous volcanoes and now I’m finding out a lot more about their geology thanks to Geocaching. Thanks for highlighting yet another aspect of volcanoes.

24-Aug-22
Visited on 20/8/22 and logged on 24/8/22 with permission to log by the COs
TFTC which was an interesting volcano to visit and explore.

20-Feb-22
The route to this cache reminded us all of the beautiful terrain over in the Diamond Valley where, Cathlud, laidlaym and I all grew up. It was very lush and green, not surprisingly after all the rain we’d had recently. To add to the fun it rained briefly when we retrieved this one.

13-Dec-21
On my way to Beaufort and decided to get a few smiley faces on my way there. Thank you for showing me this area, I would of never taken it in on my travels Smile.

07-Dec-21
We had forgotten to log this cache at the time we found it. We found our notes and have sent the answers off to the CO. We enjoy the learning opportunities presented by Earthcaches and are hoping to put a few out ourselves in the not too distant future. This one was most interesting as it alerted us to a geographical feature that we otherwise would not have noticed. When we found this Earthcache, it was in fading light, and we made the best observations we could. Thank you, chooknchunk, for the time and effort you took to create this Earthcache.

21-Nov-21
With geo-socials back on the cards I made my way north to Ballarat for the Smythesdale CITO. I then stayed in the area for a couple of days exploring mines and revisiting the BSRT rail trail.

Earthcaches are usually on top of my target list and this EC in Skipton was no exception. If not for geocaching I would never have noticed this good example of a (complex) volcano. The quarrying of a part of it was a pity to see - just like the [Anakie's disappearing volcano EC](https://coord.info/GC4PVDG) I had a few years ago where the three sisters may one day become just two. I guess that's just progress - scoria and granite have to come from somewhere and if it is private property they can do what they want with it.
Answers emailed and promptly confirmed by the CO.

Thanks, chooknchunk - a FP from me.

Logging with the approval of CO

The day started with a lite drizzle and a little windy, but turned into a perfect day to cache Skipton and surrounding areas in search of Trads, Multi’s and Earthcaches.

I would’ve thought this was just a hill, if not for the interesting places Geocaching takes you.

Thanks for the Earthcache Cache ChooknChunk

We would have never known about this volcano without this Earthcache, so thanks for giving us a reason to stop and observe its features chooknchunk. Answers have been sent, and we are continuing our journey towards home in the NE of Victoria. Of course we keep on being distracted by caches along the way! #8119

Have driven past this many times, never stopping long enoigh to gather answers. Today I did, and enjoyed the lesson. Will look at this differently from now on! Thanks tor the lesson here, much appreciated.

31-Dec-20
My favourite cache of the day. I grew up in the shadows of hanging rock. So I know my lava country.
This twin cratered volcano is fascinating.
Did the observations and approved for logging
Here is a photo of the quarry from a distance.
Fav point

Time to head to Beaufort to bring in the new year and kick the old one to the kerb.
We spotted this impressive piece of geology on the way. Answers are on the way.

Thanks for the cache chooknchunk

TFTC. Thank you for bringing us here. A first visit for us. It’d be great to go up in it to see.
A beautiful day for a drive. Thanks

An Earth cache very close to home. I trust this doesn't decide to erupt again! I've always thought that front crater would be perfect for a live concert.

Re-enabling now the Victorian Covid19 restrictions say we can "participate in some recreational activities, adhering to the rules". Please use common sense, maintain social distancing, attend to hand hygiene and stay safe.

28-Mar-20
Temporarily disabling this cache due to the Corona Virus.
Geocaching is not "essential travel".
It puts others at risk when you travel unnecessarily, no matter how isolated a cache may be.
Please stay at home.

A very cool find, driving around with Ultraterse.
Sent answers through the App, hoping I got it right.

Learn something about MT Monmot.
Thanks ️

This Earth Cache was a good reason to pull over a take a break. Great to have the info in the cache notes to help with answering the questions and using a bit of imagination as well. Plenty of work going around here with the turbines - amazing seeing the size of these up close. Answers sent to CO. TFTC

03-Jan-20
We struggled with this one but have sent our answers. It is amazing how many lessons this wonderful hobby of caching gives us. Thanks for yet another.

03-Jan-20
We weren't sure that we were in the right area as we struggled to see/make out what we should be looking at. Stronger glasses maybe, lol. Anyway, we have sent the answers and look forward to how close we came. Thanks for another great lesson.

27-Nov-19
This one took a little extra thinking and as we felt confused we resorted to Mr. Google to try and help give us a little clarity. We don't think we have seen a double breached crater before, thank you for encouraging us to look at our surroundings instead of just driving by.
Hopefully the turbines will not take over this magnificent and interesting piece of geology. We had a great day exploring the Skipton area.

With the attempt of 10 cache types today I needed an earth cache and although the aren’t my favourite thing I chose this one, an interesting spot that I wouldn’t have know about if it wasn’t for this cache.

A great day out today, I headed from Ballarat to Mt gambier by some funky route, well any normal geocaching route really. With 4 events lined up with one being a CITO, they made cursor for when I needed to be at certain locations otherwise it was free roam. Overall a good day out with nearly 500km driven and almost 50 caches found

On my way to babble in Beaufort stopped to study this interesting remnant volcano I’m a tad troubled by doubts as to the duality of my answers and this troubling double hill Enjoyed learning about this hill or mount TFTC ChooknChunk

Completed this EC today after caching the end of the rail trail in Skipton. For a small volcano it certainly has a lot of character when you get up close to it. Answers sent to CO. Thx Chooknchunk for your very interesting EC.

The first day of a new caching year!
What better way to begin, than completing an earthcache on our way to a New Year's Day Event in Beaufort.

Logged with a nod from the CO.

Thanks 'chooknchunk' for the great effort of creating this Earthcache and encouraging us to learn more about the geology and history of places we visit.

Heading to our last event for 2018 to catch up with some great mates we couldn't resist this earthcache especially with a name like Double Trouble Big Grin Stopping firstly at the alternative waypoint we were able to view the dome before heading further north to get a closer look. Its a pity Monmot Hill isn't accessible to the public to get up close and personal with this interesting volcano. We were able to witness the geological formations though from afar and make our observations to answer the questions. We did notice the hill had been quarried at one stage Sad
Thanks chooknchunk for highlighting these distinct volcanic features and teaching us a thing or to about the basics of volcanoes.

29-Dec-18
Caching between Beaufort and Skipton while staying in Ballarat for a couple of weeks. This included a group of earthcaches. Thanks CnC for these earthcaches.

14-Oct-18
Found with the family on the way back from Grans house.
It is so cool to see extinct volcanoes!
Thanks for the Earthcache.

14-Oct-18
Found with McAdies and Geoeddie.
Nice drive out here today on the long way home.
Thanks for the EarthCache!

14-Oct-18
Apparently there are some traffic restrictions on the Mount Emu Settlement Road, due to the Wind Farm road construction, making access to Waypoint 2 difficult.

We have provided an alternative to Waypoint 2 to give another view of the Eastern Crater. Its a bit further away, but you should still be able to see the volcanic feature in question.

14-Oct-18
This one had been on the radar for a while and with Earthcache Day coming up took the chance to grab a photo on the Emu Settlement Rd while doing some work there as it is destroyed by wind farm trucks right now. We stopped at WP1 to have a chat about the volcano on the way through to Ararat.
Great to think of a volcano being around what is just farm paddocks today.
Thanks for the Earthcache!

14-Oct-18
While in the area and no one was around even the roadworks were stopped.for the weekend we had time to stop and try for this one, information gathered at the waypoints and answers sent to the CO, thanks for the fun

09-Sep-18
In the area this afternoon and needing to find a cache other than a trad, this was the perfect option. We went to both waypoints and made observations then had a discussion about the answers. We saw a small group of people up on top of the mountain. Visiting the trig point or enjoying the views maybe? We have e-mailed our answers. Thanks chooknchunk for bringing us here today.

Aussie Mary and CPwanderer enjoyed discussing possible answers to the questions posed for this earthcache. Aussie Mary was transported back to October last year when she and Aussie Mark visited Mount Vesuvius and Mount Etna. Am sure Mark wished he was with me to discuss a volcano, no matter the size.
Hope our answers, sent by Aussie M & M (Mary) on behalf of CPwanderer and Aussie M & M are approved.
TFTC and another favourite from Mary

08-Aug-18
Answers forwarded via message centre by AussieM@M on behalf of both of us. We were on a tour of the local area and had to stop for this interesting earthcache! An interesting location! Thanks for setting up this earthcache.... Our only EC we got to visit on our wander today!

Master 9’s footy was out at Skipton today (where it was very icy at 8am)! We decided to detour the long way home with a couple of extra kids in tow and collect a few caches. This is a real hidden gem. Never knew it existed. Answers were discussed with the CO at a geocaching event later in the day (and approved). Thanks for highlighting this great feature.

After tackling the trail from Scarsdale to Linton, we sorted out bikes and cars and went caching. We decided to travel north and check out some parts unknown and the earthcaches therein. This one was cool to check out from the car and from each waypoint we saw the earthcache from a different perspective. Answers sent to cache owner. Thanks for the cache chooknchunk.

On a geocache loop run today. Ballarat, Beaufort, Buangor, Stockyard Hill, Lake Goldsmith, Pittong, Linton, Snake Valley in over a 6 hour road trip. Gorgeous day for a geocaching collecting 20 caches.

Volcanic eruptions, lava flows, rocks and rubble, what fun must have happened here 100,000 years ago! Couple angles to view this feature and happy to be here. Message in the mail. CIGC TNLN TFTC.

Find # 5111

Found while heading down to the Glow worms event.
I had it all this day, torrential rain, galeforce winds, sunshine, and on one flat plain it was totally calm.
I only needed to change my shoes once, due to wet long grass. And thankfully I managed to keep relatively dry while grabbing caches.

It was a long day as I left home just after 10am and got back just around 11pm.

So glad I could do this from the comfort of the ute. My only obsticle was dodging the windshield wipers to get a good view of the craters.

Suscoe left Geelong very early today for a trip up the highway to Ballarat, Ararat and return via Rokewood.
We left in the dark and enjoyed the delights of fog all the way to Ballarat.
It was starting to lift as we headed west and by the afternoon we were bathed in bright sunshine.
We found 5 different cache types today for a total of 21.
A most enjoyable day out, thanks goes to all caching teams responsible for these caches.

This was our 19th find for the day.
Thanks to chooknchunk for this Earth Cache.
We have passed this spot many times and now we know something we never knew before.
Glad to have learned something new.

We have emailed our answers to the EC CO.
So dry out here at the moment.
A favourite.

Found on our way to Mt Gambier for a short holiday. Love an EC we could do from the car which was nice as the kids were getting tired. Lots learnt here today for young and old. Answers forwarded to CO. TFTC Chooknchunk.

Stopped here on the way to the Geelong events. Logging with permission of CO. It was great to read simple explanations about volcanoes and to see examples. Now I know more about volcanoes and will be able to recognise different features to show off my knowledge! TFTC

Found with Astro on our way to the East for the Mega. I love this country so worth stopping and checking out the scenery between the showers or should I say down pours.

Thanks from mogni Smile

16-Nov-17

I would have kept on driving and missed this feature if the unit had not dinged!

There are a lot of these volcanic structures around here - as we moved on there were a couple of beauties down the road.

Found as part of my 2017 Alexandra Mega experience. Smile This cache added to the fun and enjoyment of my trek to the east and back from Adelaide. While there were a few thunder storms, there were mainly clear skies and I never saw a snake! [^]Surprised

Thanks to chooknchunk and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet!

Visited with Cybergran V after my Earthcache day event in Lal Lal, although we got both answers wrong the very kind CO's still gave us permission to log. We were happy to visit the area and check out this feature that until now had gone unnoticed. Thanks for publishing this earthcache chooknchunk you saved me a much longer drive.

Thanks for the lovely drive in the countryside with my wonderfully informative chauffeur. Although the old eyesight is not as good as it used to be, I had a little difficulty observing the geological features, but was probably blinded by the brilliant gold of the canola crop in the foreground.
My grateful appreciation of being able to log another great Earthcache on this Earthcache weekend.

08-Oct-17
I have not found a lot of this type of caches, so today I set about adding to my tally. As a bonus, I might just get a souvenir for my trouble !! With lunch packed in the car, we hit the road. A pleasant drive and we were soon pulling up to the first waypoint. I would have driven past here quite a few times, but never bothered to have a good luck here. Well that changed today and I gained a bit of knowledge to boot !! Thanks for bringing me to this Earthcache. Cheers chooknchunk Big Grin

Logging with permission. It still amazes me that no matter how old you get, you are still learning all the time. Thanks for your Earthcache and for highlighting this area.

Sean.75, kenbryl and headed out this way to see if we could gather what info we needed to log your EC. Yesterday we spent most of the day washing cars, of course there would be dirt roads to travel on!!! We all had a laugh about how we thought it erupted!! Tftc

Before heading to the Burger Biannual in Ballarat we swung passed here to have a look. We discussed our answers, had a giggle and went to eat burgers!!! Poor Ruby is all dirty again, lol. Tftc

Woo Hoo! It still amazes me how much there is to learn about our land. We enjoyed the drive out to the location passing through Rokewood and Skipton which we have visited a few times before then travelling on to this EC and I must admit it's the only reason we came this way. We took note of the details and made our way home and I was only to happy to do more research. The details of this location were very interesting. Thanks for a super quick replay from the CO Smile
