I visited this earthcache on a trip to the west from South Australia.
I spent a couple of nights in Geraldton catching up with friends, re-visiting old haunts from when I lived here 25 years ago and finding some caches of interest, including this one.
I recall when I lived here that the plasterboard ceilings of some of the new homes in the Wandana subdivision across the road were suddenly collapsing as a result of the weight of sand that had blown up under their tiled roofs from the Southgate dunes. Geohazard indeed. Let the buyer beware!
Thanks TeamThommo for another interesting earthcache.

Logged with permission. A quick trip up the coast from Perth to escape the winter cold and of course grab some selected caches along the way. Had a 4WD hire car so made the most of it once the rains cleared. An impressive amount of sand and the power of mother nature.

Slowly catching up with earth cache answers and logs after an extended trip.
We had a bit of free time today as our friends were busy with family today so we made the most of the beautiful weather to come out and grab a few caches.
We first tried our luck at the nearby trad at the start of the sand driving but unfortunately had no luck there so got off to a bad start. We then headed off to try our luck at a bit of sand driving and were quite impressed with the way the D-Max handled it. We arrived at gz to find a few other cars parked around but this wasn't a problem so we collected the required information while admiring the fantastic views and have sent them off to the CO.
We hope they are good enough for our log to remain, if not we will happily delete it.
Many thanks Team Thommo for bringing us here and teaching us about this area and also for the fun getting out here, a favourite point from us.

Without this Earthcache, we would have likely skipped this spot on the way back of our recent WA trip. Thank you CO for this other interesting Earthcache, set up in a nice spot.
Driving on 2WD, we parked and walked along the beach access then the beach to reach GZ.
Answers sent to CO.

Stopped to grab this earth cache on our way into geraldton for a 5 day trip. Interesting place to visit but quite warm and windy here today. Will send answers to CO. TFTC Team Thommo
Ummed and ahhed about coming to this earth cache today to get my earth cache day souvenir, mostly because I don’t trust myself not to get bogged and I’m feeling way too lazy to walk to gz today. But myself and geokid made it here piece of cake. Answers coming soon
Thanks TeamThommo for placing and maintaining this cache. Out and about with Barnzy12 getting a few smily faces.
Have been saving this one for Earth Cache Day
Had fun 4WDing to get to GZ.
Answers coming soon.

I have read your webpage with interest and hope to visit this one on our upcoming trip.
Our last day in Geraldton so set off to sort out this EC. Very gusty today and the sand was blowing horizontally which made it an uncomfortable trudge to gz. Answers sent to CO. Thanks TeamThommo
We took a short drive over to the Southgate Dunes this morning to find this geocache. The famous Geraldton southerly was already blowing even though it was only 9.30am, at least it hasn’t gained summertime strength yet and it did keep the flies at bay.
We drove down in my brand new Subaru but decided as we didn’t have our tyre deflators or the compressor that we would take the 1.5 kilometre stroll. We wanted to “close our rings” on our watches anyway!
We enjoyed running up and down the dunes and spent much time discussing which of us had the correct answer to question one.
By the time we decided to head back to the car the area had turned from just the odd 4WD to just about every off-roader in Geraldton out for some Sunday fun.
Thanks Team Thommo.

We had a great time with Everlasting researching this EC. Answers sent to CO. Thanks TeamTommo we love a good Earth Cache.
Up in Geraldton for IGD so we took the opportunity to collect a few more smilies, happy to say we came up trumps here and walked away with a smilie, we enjoyed this EC, somewhere we used to come regularly, have sent answers to CO TFTC
After a fantastic trip down the Canning Stock Route where I managed to procure a bit of damage to my vehicle, our group headed into Geraldton for about a week to visit friends, recuperate and to get some repairs done to the vehicles before heading back to Victoria.
I headed for this earthcache on an overcast, windy and drizzly day. I parked at the suggested parking coordinates, donned the rain coat and with sample bags in my pocket walked out to GZ, after collecting a nearby traditional. The rain basically held off so I didn't get very wet. I collected a small sample of the sand and a couple of rocks that I found. With the sample of the sand that I had collected, I was able to examine it closely, out of the wind and rain, and based on that examination was able to definitively identify what type it was. Answers were sent off after returning to the accommodation.
Thanks TeamThommo for another interesting and hands on earthcache.

In Geraldton for a wedding so made the trek out to this ec, took me a while to convert my pictures of gz to an answer. Avery interesting spot which wasn’t just the usual rock style EC, something I enjoy about a team thommo ec!

we were on a camping trip to Geraldton, Lucky Bay and Kalbarri N.P when we saw a new earthcache had been published. Earthcaches are right up my alley and I love "finding" earthcaches due to the educational value they provide and the amazing places they take you to. This one was one such earthcache. At first we weren't sure as to whether we could use the road leading to the beach with the 4x4 but after checking it's not private or closed to the public we drove the geovehicle close to GZ and walked the other 200m. It was indeed very interesting to learn about dune classifications and how they are formed.
thank you for placing this earthcache and teaching me about dunes. fp.
