Find # 13072Following an epic weekend including a on the Colo yesterday, a few challenges and trails today before the group goes their separate ways to head home.Always energy for just one more - with Smittengranny, KittyKatch, Joolay, and a bunch of others and signing at CC24 (Canberra Cachers 24) to save space in the logbook. Loved the hide, that is such a cool spot! Many thanks to teamMerlin for placing Aristotle's Dilemma for us all to enjoy. Your contribution to the game through the placement and maintenance of this cache over the years is appreciated.
It is now Sunday and we (the group who had driven up from Canberra) allowed ourselves a bit of a sleep in after the kayak adventure on the Colo River yesterday. It wasn't much of a sleep in though as there are just so many caches up here to be found - some of the mysteries having already been solved at home. The day dawned sunny and very humid, which didn't bode well for some of the hilly walks. However we were blessed with 100% finds of the caches that we targeted. This was one of them and the logs were all signed as CC24 (Canberra Crew) to save space. Thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining these caches.
Found with minniek and the rest of Team CC24 (Canberra Canoeists 2024).Day 2 of our Colo River Region Caching Adventure. After an amazing days caching yesterday mainly on the river, it was time for some bushwalking for caches today. The main aim were the Challenges and Yin Yang series (or at least as many as we had solved). Nice quick find. Signed, returned, and we continued on our way to the next one. Thanks teamMerlin !!
Found with a fun group of geofriends while in the area for a geocaching adventure. TFTH Signed as Canberra Canoers 24 (CC24).
Colo River TripHeading to Wiseman's Ferry area for a weekend of caching with Joolay, contesta and Smittengranny. We joined up with a bunch of Canberra cachers to find some challenges and puzzles today. Signed as Caberra Cachers 2024 (CC24). Such a cool GZ location. Thanks for hiding and maintaining this cache teamMerlin
Spending some time caching around the NSW/ACT southern tablelands with lots of side trips. TFTC.Another day around the hills of Colo River collecting challenges, solved puzzles and traditionals.A great day out with the Canberra Crew signing as CC24. It was hot & exhausting with lots of bush walks over many hills. Wonderful scenery. A long convoy of cars carrying kayaks. Awesome. Many great puzzles that are well thought out. Many to still solve.
Today the Canberra crew that had gathered in the area for the colo River caches, met up this morning for group caching. We started the day walking a trail of challenges, before moving on to ying yang puzzles. Our group consisted of kittykatch, joolay, contesta, MinnieK, Fitzy, search4, Aykayem, smittengranny, FurfacesLL, loci, Nibletricecakes, Gliss, TikvaNZ, sacada and myself. We signed as CC24 (Canberra Canoeists 2024) as our group name to represent all cachers.A nice walk through the bush for the challenge caches. The cicadas were loud, oh so loud at times! But a good series and a stunning view out over the colo River we had paddled from the morning before from the trad at the end. With our walk complete, we convoyed from cache to cache mostly doing the ying yang puzzles solved. A ferry crossing saw the last cacher cross, but the ferry sat on the other side chatting to the one car returning and after a long time waiting we turned and went of caching our own way unable to cross. Later, we crossed elsewhere only to meet up with the group returning!!! A warm day and the walks become too much for me with hills, a great day (Weekend) though and time to return home. A great area to visit and cache, thanks for your cache!
Fun little puzzle. Solved during lockdown. Parked close by for a quick walk up and find. Signed and replaced. Tftc
A great day exploring the region with ESCR. We just selected caches and walks that looked interesting to get a feel for the area and ended up collecting a decent number. TFTC!Probably my favourite location for the day. Adding a favourite point.
Spending a few days in the area for some hikes and a paddle down the Colo river. A beautiful part of the world. TFTFun!
Came along today to add some more smileys to the map of the Hawkesbury area. You just have to love geocaching, especially on Valentines Day. It was a good run and goingplaces2 came along for the ride. This cache was a successful find and the log was signed. TFTC.
First find for the day for me as chasing birdhouses but passing through. Found it with Ev as he clambered up for the find, thanks TM
A quick find along the road on our way to find Birdhouse Series Puzzle Caches. OCW It's Dozzie and Martin Cousins. TFTC Team Merlin
Found today on a nice cache drive out this way with my brother, Dad, Mighty Minions and barefootjeff to get a few high-terrain caches and also some of the roadside yin-yang ones, had a nice time out here even though BFJ hurt his ankle at one of the first caches, we still had a really fun day around here!
After arriving we walked back along the road from where we had parked and ventured in, we had seen the hint and we couldn't see what the hint said there was, we must've missed it by a metre as we were walking back towards where the GPS was pointing and found 2 amazing hides, one of which had the cache...
While dad was climbing down the rock he shaved a patch of his elbow off and while replacing the cache I slipped and landed on my knee quite hard which also hurt...

We were caching in the Colo/Sackville area today with Mighty Minions and barefootjeff, with a couple of good walks and interesting terrain and a handful of more roadside finds, we had a great day with perfect caching weather.
We decided on more roadside stuff for the afternoon, so headed out towards Sackville raiding solved yin-yangs as we went.
I didn't have coordinates for this this morning, but some searching led me to a boffin and some C-code, with had a solution which fit nicely in 5.4s. We did a loop-the-loop approach to this cache, circling gradually in on GZ before it became obvious. I managed to have a spill between two boulders, rubbing off some bark in the process, before Samuel spotted the cache in the near darkness.... TFTC!

A great day out caching with barefootjeff, Lee737, Samuel737 and Oliver 737 today. The weather was good and we didn't have any dnf's. Well somehow we missed the GZ for this cache walking right past it and poor Lee lost some blood going down some rocks and Samuel hurt himself too , but I think it was worth the effort because Wow I was so impressed with this GZ and Samuel actually spotting the hide, How did you find this place it is so cool. def fav point for the great GZ . Thanks for the cache teamMerlin tnln replaced as found sl

Today was a road trip around the Hawkesbury area. An ambitious list of caches to find as I set myself a target of reaching 10,000 finds by year end. Covid-19 lockdown put a spanner in the works and I now have only two months to find the remaining 200+ caches. So rather than interesting caches, I had to schedule a day in the car and go for quantity, rather than quality.
What a great puzzle which I solved a long time ago. Finally with lock-down lifted I could get to this cache on my little roadtrip.
This is 45 of 61 finds today. TFTC!

Loved the spot, it was perfect. I see why Aristotle was in a bit of a pickle! TFTC
This puzzle initially looked quite daunting. But after sitting down and reviewing all the data, a solution was soon found. A nice puzzle. GZ was a great hiding spot for a cache.

At a recent puzzle solving event I sat down with two like minded cachers and looked at one of the puzzles in this series. Even though I still had a number of solutions for the series in the bag, I hadn't looked at any of them for a little while.
While we didn't complete the solution - it was either stop part way of succumb to strabismus, or maybe astigmatism (are they a caches in this series?) - we were 90% of the way there.
Reinvigorated, I sat down with more caches in the series the next day. And a bit of the day after that. And the result was some more solutions - at least one which was so quick a solve I really wondered why I hadn't done it long ago.
So today, wanting to up my calendar day count (only have ten), I decided I'd grab some. Went for eleven - and found them all, including the one we'd solved at the event.
Undoubtedly I will have to revisit areas I plundered today - there are plenty of solves still to go in this series, and I've already revisited one or two trails.
However, it seems my two co-conspirators are of like mind, so we will likely be putting our collective heads together to crack some of the remaining puzzles.
Nice day for caching in the bush too - not too windy, not too hot.
###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###
Easily my most favourite cache of the day, and gets a favourite, both for the puzzle and the hide.
Fascinating concept for the puzzle. Pretty quickly had something close, but a bit of tweaking was required before the coordinates appeared.
Again I took the least optimal approach to GZ. Interesting, and somewhat unexpected area, but when I spotted one area I knew that's where the cache had to be. And it was.
Scrambled a little to get my hands on it, and signed, replaced and out of there, trying to erase any evidence I was there.
Then took the easier path back to GZ.

I'd planned for the last few weeks to take today off work to try and pick up all the remaining in Yang series.Unfortunately the nearby bushfires and my fear of being savaged by Eastern Brown snakes (thanks to a friend who lives at nearby Colo) caused me to scale back my plans. I managed to find another 17 Yin Yang caches today and this was the sixteenth.
I enjoyed the puzzle, but the highlight for me with this one is the hide. I think it was the most interesting hiding place I'd seen all day - and that was after I initially searched another really interesting one, TFTC.

On a previous visit, I thought I got all the caches in this area. Headed back today, expecting to remember it clearly, and that it was just that I had forgotten to log it - well how about that, I don't remember it at all
This one took some time to crack but there were some helpful forums to get us on the right track.
One of four today on this exciting series of caches. Looking forward to getting some more puzzles cracked for the next time we're out here.

It's been a while, but i finally managed to get back to this area to find the rest of this series. While not as hot as the last time he, the sun still baked me on my trek.
Thanks for the cache.

Out today enjoying a school holiday geocaching day with my two sons. The plan was to take care of as many of our ~15 solved Yin Yang puzzles as possible. This was our 12th and final YY find today. It was pretty much time to call it a day and start the journey home after what has been a great day together and away from screens (goes for me too). We had just two left to find in this particular area but unfortunately only time for one of them - decided on the one that was closest which was this one.
Again, leaving the motor running to make a solo dash while the kids enjoy the relief of the air-con, I soon found myself at GZish where an amazing cave was discovered. But the GPS had other ideas. Whoa hang on now THAT'S a cave! I have never seen anything quite like that before, cool! Quickly signed the book and visited some TBs and re-hid as found. One of those one-in-a-million hiding spots!
This is one of the puzzles from the series that I'd in fact solved just in the last few weeks. This Aristotle hexagon jobbie is nuts -wow! I'd never heard of nor seen of that before? In his day and obviously long before technology, it must have really taken an incredible brain and IQ to come up with such a piece of work! That would be quite some logic puzzle! Nice use of it by the CO to make this into a geocaching puzzle. It was only once I started getting a handle on the relationship between all the digits that the penny began to drop lol. TFTC, teamMerlin. A wonderful day was had by all of us. We'll definitely be back for more sometime sooner than later I hope.

On our way back down south as our holiday comes to an end, we headed to the Yin Yang series to pick up as many caches that time and weather would permit.
With many hours spent solving these mysteries, a little nudge or 2 from the CO was needed to get us over the finish line for a couple. We found the themed puzzles to be extremely clever as they flowed together giving us the coordinates needed today to make a few finds. Unfortunately we weren't able to pick them all up as the daylight started to fade and we still needed to be on the other side of Sydney, so we had to move on We will be back in NSW next year so we certainly will make our way back here to finish the series and enjoy the area once more [^]
Enough of high Terrain caches, now its time for both us to get some of the easier hides together.
Thanks teamMerlin for all the hard work put into this brilliant series , testing our mental and physical abilities, we loved the views that the caches took us to

Yet again, out collecting this series with LouLou0212, in between moving house. The locations and puzzles are all fantastic with this series. Thank you for placing the puzzles and series teamMerlin. I’m sorry for the generic logs, but it was a while between solving and collecting the puzzles, and then a lot in a short period!
Out and about caching with BeckNmonts this week, this series has had some amazing views and I’m so glad I had the opportunity to find all of these - thanks for putting out this fantastic series - TFTC teamMerlin, I really enjoyed it!
Streak Day #1866 - Out with dave8153 again today for another cache to keep our streaks alive. TFTC and thanks for the series in keeping my addiction going hahaha
Cache find No. 2658
Streak Day: 977
Headed up here again today with Snoopy1976 for our daily find. Having solved this previously we headed to the location and then decided one of us would need to climb inside and I drew the shirt straw, so soon after we had CIH and were signing the log. TFTC

The yin yang series has been on our radar for too long. After finishing up work for the week, we made the trip down for the weekend. Over 2 days we travelled around the different trails, finding all these caches. Thanks for the effort put into this series, it's been fun.
A straightforward solve for us.

An enormous day out with the whole gang - M95, GD__, B7, 154C, MCMD.
Admittedly I did not and could not solve most of these puzzles. I was tagging along for the drive and physical manpower. Thanks For The Caches!

After alot of endless nights working on the puzzle series we had ourselves the coordinates needed to make a start on the series we now just needed to find a weekend the gang could all get together.muppet called out again late last week, this weekend suited us all so the plans were soon made to meet for a very early start. We cached all day and well into the night finding all the target hides,a good balance of terrain and difficulty provided perfect harmony.
Another really enjoyable day out caching with good friends.
Thanks teamMerlin for all the hard work you've put in setting up this series.
Apologies for the repeated logs

Admittedly I had only worked part of the way through these puzzles but when I got the call to participate in some trail walking and bush bashing I was packed up and ready to go in nothing flat. Bit of a drive to get here from Wollongong via the Southern Highlands but the day was well worth the effort. I'm glad to have earned some hidden creature souvenirs while getting some great geo-art. Thanks for the caches and the series.
We've been working on this series on and off since they first appeared last year. Today we set our sights on a power-binge to snag them all in a single day... only to discover many of them were just as challenging to get as they were to solve. No matter, though, because we attacked them like a well-oiled machine and plowed through the lot with precision and determination. The weather was on our side and it was a perfect day to accomplish our goal: we were out before sun-rise, rendezvoused with the usual suspects, made the trip from the Southern Highlands, made the first find by nine, the last by seven, and scored two bonus caches in the process; then we had a bite to eat where we could reflect on the day's adventures before refueling and heading for home. All up, a challenging series of puzzles, definitely a challenging day out, and some great art on our map. Thanks Team Merlin for the caches and the series.
What an adventure it has been to get here…
This all started back in August 2017 when I was notified of the puzzle series. I was really on top of puzzle solving skills at the time, so I set to work on the GeoArt. The puzzling process reflected the Yin Yang philosophy – a balance of easy, hard and everything in between. By February, I only had 8 puzzles to go. A few emails between the CO and other puzzle solvers had set the last 8 straight. We have sat on the completed list for 5 months, waiting patiently for the stars to align.
Now that I am on session break, my time has been significantly freed up. It was by chance that I had a weekend day off work, which was an ideal day for the others. A few messages were sent around late in the week to see if everyone was interested in finally getting around to doing the Yin Yang series. We had enough interest to go ahead with the plan.
Rise at 5am. Rendezvous at 7am. Arrive at 9am. Cache until 7:30pm. Return by 9:30pm. Home by 11pm. We managed to find all 59 caches in the Yin Yang series in 10.5 hours. Just like the puzzle solving, the cache finding reflected the Yin Yang philosophy – some caches being effortless, extremely challenging and everything in between.
An absolutely mad achievement! We wanted to smash out the series in a day to appreciate the whole series in its entirety. A momentous day spent in great company! Thanks to teamMerlin for this wonderful series – a lot of time and energy has been put into developing such a cohesive and interconnected set of Mystery caches.
While typing this log I found this great quote I thought I’d tack on:
“Yin and yang, male and female, strong and weak, rigid and tender, heaven and earth, light and darkness, thunder and lightning, cold and warmth, good and evil...the interplay of opposite principles constitutes the universe.” – Confucius
Apologies for generic copy/paste logs. There weren’t many cache-specific field notes that we needed to record. We were just really impressed with completing the series as a whole and overlooked potential points of interest.

Reperio at 1620. Found in the company of the_garbageman.
Having worked on this series for the past few months, the_garbageman and I were keen to knock a few of them over today. This puzzle, whilst known how to solve, still took a bit of time to work through, and I think I even managed to talk someone at work into solving some of it while I was scrubbed. At GZ today, the rock formation is a beauty. If only the floor was a bit more level, it would make the perfect one man shelter.
Gratias teamMerlin.

MV and I have been planning an assault on some of the high D:T caches in the region for some time, but the stars rarely align for both of us to be available. This week we got lucky, and with an absolutely glorious day we set off in the hopes of claiming 29 targeted caches - we squeezed in 25 for MV and 22 for me - walked countless km, climbed up and down numerous rock faces, and had an amazing day.
So much effort on the whole setup of this series. Thanks for creating something which has given me so many hours of puzzle solving, hikes, climbs, great views, time with mates on trails, etc. Much appreciated!
This puzzle reminded me of the logic puzzles and simultaneous equations I really enjoyed in high school. Having said that, I think I got a bit tired of equations and brute forced a couple of digits.
Glad I did though, as not only is GZ close to being a drive-by, it’s an absolutely cracking spot! We were both amazed by what we found. An opera hall for a hobbit maybe? Shelter for a midget bushranger and his Shetland pony? Just beautiful though.
A quick find at GZ. TNLN TFTC FP (again).

This was solved by lucky1955. After chatting with him at the CITO and Meet and Greet at the Hawkesbury, I headed out to do a couple of caches with him. Parked across the road and a short walk to GZ. Great hide! Signed log and returned as found
No Dilemma here apart from not being in the area when it was first published so bening in the area for the first time in a while it was time to collect. Nice hiding location. TFTC.

This one and Philosopher's Stone tied for my favourite caches of the day. What a fabulous little spot! And mercifully easy to get to as well, with only a few hundred metres to walk from where we parked. We almost didn't get to this one, as we were tired, hot and hungry, but I'm so glad that we decided on just one more puzzle as it was so close by.
Thanks

I am so jealous. TeamMerlin, you find some brilliant spots for caches. Yes, this was one of them. Having found a mercifully easy cache on this hot day just up the road, we wandered down to this spot and found this brilliant little cave. The find was easy, but I ended up with a lot of dirt on my pants and shirt. I noticed a few minutes ago, that as I've been typing cache logs, I had enough on my backside, still, to transfer it to my chair seat.
An easy retrieval and replacement. Thanks again

We've been chipping away at this series for a while now, resulting in several visits to the area in search of the caches that we've solved. This extremely diverse series has since become highly addictive, and over the last few months, countless hours of frustration, puzzle solving, and eureka moments have consumed so much of our time. This weekend we decided it was time to raid the area of Yin Yang caches!
This one didn't take very long to find the answers required after a bit of searching. Loved the hidey hole at GZ! TFTC!

A roadtrip from Canberra with ZQX and TikvaNZ for a day of caching in the Hawkesbury area.
I had solved a similar puzzle in the ACT, so made quick work to get coords, while I was travelling to the Hawkesbury region.
Great spot for a cache. Loved the rock formation. It was almost like half an eggshell without the egg, so much so was the erosion inside the rock. A quick scramble up to the container. TFTC TM

This puzzle would have been quite difficult if I had not already solved a similar one. One of those "Been there before" moments that help a lot in the puzzle-solving caper.
At GZ, we were amazed by the amazing erosion that had formed the feature where the cache was hidden. FIJ grabbed the cache. Accurate geocoordinates made for a quick find once again.
Thx TM!

#3 on my Sackville GC and GCA blitz this afternoon.
A tricky hide, not so much finding it but grovelling up without slipping and and then wedging myself in whilst I signed the log. Good fun, although my dress shorts (worn for the Event) become all grubby:(.

Our cache #3 this morning. We solved the puzzle by focusing only on the right half of the image. Thanks teamMerlin for another interesting one.
I quite enjoy solving Sudoku and MathDoku (KenKen) puzzles. They are all based on a "magic square" which already fascinated me when I was in primary school. I suppose this variant is a magic hexagon, huh?
As with the magic squares, there isn't a unique solution, and fortunately, there was additional information with this puzzle, something that could be exploited to crack it quicker by a process of elimination. At one stage I had given a fleeting thought about trying to solve a set of simultaneous equations, but I dismissed that pretty quickly ... too much effort, I thought.
By now my son was getting weary of looking for caches. He seems to flip-flop with his feeling towards caching: if there is a nice large container with lots of swag, he's very keen. If there is nothing to rummage through, or if there is only a micro to sign, he's bored. Perhaps he's inherited some of my genes ...
Fortunately, this cache was not a long walk, and he wasn't too averse to going to look for it. It certainly helped that I let him hold the GPSr and lead the way by following me towards the right spot, hehe.
Awesome rock feature, both at GZ and nearby. What an amazing spot. It could also serve as an earthcache.
The job of retrieving the container was left to me, mainly because my kid didn't feel so confident about getting to where he needed to be. But he did try, I'll definitely give him that. Just as well I went up because I got a good fright when a couple of crickets scurried about as I made the grab.
Signing duties were done in a more comfortable place, and my signature small wire dog was placed in the container. Then a quick scramble to return everything and we were done.

I love logic puzzles, which essentially this one was. I solved it mainly by using a process of elimination but what I'm realling looking forward to doing later is getting my software class to write the solution to this puzzle in Prolog. GZ was a pleasant surprise as well, how do you find these locations? And how soft is the sand? SL #3335 on streak day #1935 TFTC fav awarded
This one was the second last of the series for us and like the others gave us firstly a workout for the brain and followed by a visit to yet another little gem of a location. There are so many great cache hiding spots around here, I can see how it has inspired the series.
We didn't have a big caching day planed today mostly just to find the final three un-found ones of this series. As it turned out we found about 26 caches and also enjoyed a great lunch at the Wisemans Ferry pub.
Thank you teamMerlin Great spot once again..

Required the PHL app to solve this puzzle, but it was not quite as necessary when it came to locating the cache. What a great location! Reverberations!
Worked the numbers to get the numbers.
Today work put me in the area and took the opportunity to check out some fire trails and the Bush. Focus was to collect solved puzzles with easier access back with Mtb at another stage to make those longer trails more fun. Spent a pleasant afternoon walking and driving on quiet roads. Kudos to the Co for the excellent series.
Some interesting features in sandstone around GZ, but again the gps told me exactly where to go.

Unfortunately I solved this puzzle quickly, but I was in Goulburn!?!
On my way to refereeing tonight I stopped for a short climb and, after a brief search in the wrong spot, I followed the GPS for a quick find.

#1389 saw this on the Monday when I stopped at Windsor for some sustenance knew what I needed to do as already knew the puzzle so wrote out the pattern I knew but the first number nade no sense. But knew what number I needed so it was a matter of where I needed to get the correct numbers. Soon had valid numbers & got the green tick. So drove out to the nearby parking area that was used for another cache & then a walk of about 180 metres to the cache. However stopped at an earlier spot and had a look around what a nice spot. Then went a bit further to where the GPSr wanted me to go. Soon spotted the cache which proved to be fun to get to.
Signed the log and replaced as found. Both the cache and log are in good condition. Thanks for the puzzle teamMerlin

#1772 joint FTF with TARDIS @ 17:15.
I had already been out to collect my daily cache and was relaxing when I saw this one pop up. I tried to take a short cut earning me a red mark on the checker. A more thorough examination of the subject matter quickly turned the red into green. We had plans for dinner but I was able to convince geoWife that I'd be able to do the round trip in 2 hours, meaning I would arrive 30 minutes late. She said OK so I was out the door before she finished the sentence.
The timing on the ferry for my last few visits has not been good and today I also just missed it by a minute or two. Excruciating wait for it to return before I was on my way again. Spotted TARDIS in the rear view mirror a few km from GZ and was still hoping none of the locals were on the hunt. Thankfully it was a relatively short hike before a likely landscape revealed itself in front of us. Found the container nicely tucked away and happy to get our names on a blank log.
On the way back to the cars, we bumped into goingplaces2 and stopped for a brief chat. I was already running late for my dinner plans, so had an even quicker chat with TARDIS before making my way home (and yes, just missed the ferry again). Ended up being an hour late for dinner but hey - that's the price you pay for a FTF.

Saw this cache not long after it was published and decided to try and solve it. Surprisingly, the first co-ords entered into the checker gave a big green tick. Left home in a hurry, hoping to achieve the FTF for this cache. This would have added to our FTF streak of the last 21 months when have had at least one FTF in each month. As we were driving and getting close to GZ we knew this was not to be, as we recognised TARDIS 0061 and crash2079 walking along the road back towards their vehicles after having made the find already.
We stopped and had a chat and then took a more leisurely walk through the scrub to log a 2TF on the cache after the joint FTF cachers.
Thanks to teamMerlin for an easier puzzle to solve and an easier cache to get to and find.
