Great area to see this spectacular view a place we always drive by & think one day we'll stop- TFTC

12-Jul-24
We didnt see any kea here today but did see them earlier in the village. Our numbers were correct and cache soon in hand

11-Jul-24
A late evening drive collecting two multi dot days, and a couple trads given the roads are a bit quieter. Not a bad way to spend a few hours.I had thought I had mucked up numbers on a previous visit, on a second visit there was someone parked up with no apparent plans of moving soon, but tonight noone was around! Lovely clear night, although a little bit of ice just East of the township. Even got to see the blue frost markers around Castle Hill lit up. Anyway, a spider was nearby being a fantastic cache guardian as I found the container without ease, then replaced without disturbing the guardian. A fun little multi!TFTC gracie7 + Mum, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 2 find(s) of 3 today, making this find #4807

21-Apr-24
Mum stopped here on the way to ChCh to have a quick look.All good and where its supposed to be. Happy Caching [:)}

20-Apr-24
I think I got the right spot, but not the exact location. Too much metal fence to search with other people around

02-Mar-24
Not much of a view today. All I see is clouds.

25-Feb-24
Found with Blue Jay on our first day driving around New Zealand. Today we drove from Christchurch to Hokitaki and saw from lovely scenery as well as picking up a few caches. This was one of them.TFTC. Toffee Man.

25-Feb-24
No keas today but cache found quickly. Thanks for showing us this place, & for placing and maintaining this cache. The is our playground

05-Jan-24
You should never feed Kea, but I did once see a particularly cheeky one land on a table at the Arthurs Pass store, grab someone's pie and fly away! I thought it was funny, but I don't think the still hungry customer did!Anyway, GZ was deserted so the cache was a quick find. TFTC.

Visiting Australia and New Zealand has been on our bucket list forever. After three cancelations due to covid, we are thrilled to finally be driving, exploring, and caching. We solved the puzzle while reading all the information boards. We appreciated the roof over GZ since it was raining. This is a well-done multi cache and we actually got to see four Kea. It started pouring shortly after we arrived in Arthurs Pass, poured all night, and continued as we headed out the next morning. We stopped at the final location and started searching, despite the rain blowing horizontal. Then muggles arrived, so we had to abort our quest. Thanks anyways for adding to our adventure today, Nukeworker and Racquetball Girl, Arkansas, USA

Found on a trip to Arthur's pass. Thank you for the cache. The list will follow.

During an awesome New Zealand vacation I visited this amazing place with its amazig entertaining KeasThank you very much for this Cache

12-Nov-23
I found this geocache today and signed the logbook. It took quite a while - not because of diffculty but due to the wonderful Keas. Amazing birds! Thanks for this cache and it's maintaining. In: a favourite point

08-Oct-23
We went on a stroll through Arthur's Pass township doing the adlab plus this cache and the older Moneydork cache. At the last adlab waypoint a couple of Kea were scavenging squashed food from the pavement... Stopped at this viewpoint after lunch, no Kea.

03-Jun-23
16:43 FITW GreenMenace Did the information gathering some time ago, on our way back from Otira Valley walk. Turned out that the cache was back down towards West Coast, so left it for another time.Back home was also looking at the map and the coords I got didn't make sense. There was one value that I could not find anywhere on the information boards, even after reading them all three times - the age of Trillian (E). But I assumed it from a mention of him in relation to the age of another kea. Well, the assumption was 1 year off. once I corrected that, the checksums checked out and the final location looked much more plausible.Today was that other day, on the way to Hokitika, pulled in to the wee lookout and quickly found the cache. No keas here, but saw a couple just before at the other lookout.Kia ora! ???? Paldies! ????Thanks for the cache, gracie7 + Mum!#9696

03-Mar-23
I was up and away early this morning making my way to Lake Brunner. The roads are blissfully quiet early in the moring so having to frequently pull over wasn't a problem. I got the information and worked out where it was last night.. TFTC

03-Mar-23
No kea. Not even a call in the distance.

19-Feb-23
Hallo, auf einem Road-Trip über die Südinsel Neuseelands auch diesen Cache gut gefunden.
TFTC die Krümelmonsters

29-Jan-23
I had two nights staying at the camping area at Arthurs so solved this while there. My phone was all over the place and not making any sense at the final so plugged the numbers into the GPS and it took me pretty much to it. Thanks gracie7 + Mu,

After solving this multi it is time to collect, a bit busy at GZ, and went for a little explore of the side track which just stopped and became overgrown.

As to the cache found it quickly, love when that happens Big Grin

Thanks gracie7 + Mum for all your hides, I have had an amazing Arthurs Pass experience

28-Nov-22
BaldEd and I decided to do a run to Arthur's Pass and Otira to clean out the P&Gs along the road.

Upon reaching Arthur's Pass Village we started at the Southern end and worked our way through the AdLab locations and the 2 Plaques multis. Once we got all the info for all 3 we then worked out where the finals were. For the final we had to head out of town a bit. It took us a little while to locate this one. It wasn't until we were on our second sweep that we located it.

Cheers for the cache.

28-Nov-22
With my caching brother Tufty staying in the area we decided to attempt to clean out our unfounds and Adventure Labs between Waddington and Otira.

After lunching in Arthurs Pass and signing off the Inquisitive Kea Bonus we headed westwards to sign off this multicache, whose details I had gathered during last years visit. Rain was starting to fall so it was a slightly dampish find. All good. TFTC gracie7 + Mum.

26-May-22
Last time in Arthur's Pass I solved the multi but wasn't going that way. Today coming from the other way so a quick find

22-Dec-21
I remember this spot in the "older" days!! Found and solved with coconuts3 on a great day out, with weather just about behaving itself. TFTH and we saw 4 kea in the APass village. Cool

22-Dec-21
Out with busy paws exploring Arthurs Pass. Really enjoyed finding out the info for this multi as such an interesting info board. We always enjoy the view from here and hope to see them. Did see 4 Kea on our walks today. Thanks for the cache gracie7 + Mum. A fav from us.

21 October 2021 15:21 number 10211. GSEL and I read, and re-read the information boards several times before we spotted all the bits needed. A quick calculation and then a 'surely that can't be right?' moment followed. Oh well, let's give it a go!

Overshot the turn, and then had to find a spot to turn around and double back. Parked up, found and signed the cache. Apparently this location has memories from a previous family holiday for GSEL...

TFTC.

#10,038. Day 2 of the extended Labour Weekend geocaching road trip. I flew down with geocaching buddy Infoferret yesterday with a target list of geotour caches, adventure labs, puzzle finals, a few virtuals and a hike to get the DGSC final. We can't resist stopping to pick up a few traditionals on the way to boost the overall numbers.

We stopped to solve this multi before our lunch break. Took a while going back and forth over the display boards before we had all the information. The checksum added up but we were surprised how far away the final was. After doing other caches IF was meant to keep an eye on this one while I took the plunge over the Pass. However we both missed the turnoff and had to come back uphill to complete the formalities. Found after a short search. Signed the logbook, and replaced the cache where found. Thanks gracie7 + Mum for hiding it here.

Infoferret was a bit sad to miss seeing any kea in Arthurs Pass. I have seen them on previous trips. Their numbers do seem to be going down I am afraid. Please don't feed the keas any food. Birds used to eating human food then eat poison baits placed to kill pests and these kea die. Wild kea ignore poison baits. No one wants to be responsible for killing this clever and remarkable mountain parrot.

06-Jul-21
Bypassed some other caches on the way to this one, the weather was cold wet and windy. But since I got the information for this one yesterday we decided to go down the road and find it. Quick find, nice and dry. TFTC!

18-Mar-21
We had planned a trip to Canterbury and Otago but an issue meant we couldn't go after all so a day trip was planned to Castle Hill area which had been on our wish list for some time then to grab a few more caches as we worked our way back to the West Coast.
We had decided this would be our last cache for the day so while Hazedarus returned to the car for some note paper I started reading the information boards. We had no trouble getting the numbers required, or so we thought until the checksum for east didn't work out but we decided to just change a particular number and all would be well. And it was too but we were also determined to find what we had missed so returning to the kiosk we began a closer search of the information. There it was, staring us in the face but somehow both of us had missed it, duh!
Off down the road to a familiar spot to find the cache, sign the log then head home again.
Thank you gracie7 + Mum.

18-Feb-21
It was a perfect day for a look at the "to do-list" and a day trip followed. Turn around point was Castle Hill and some more caches along the road back to Arthur's Pass were earmarked. Just one number eluded us but was figured out. We did find the confirmation on the info board in the end staring us in the face all the time. GZ proved a place well known to us with vivid memories of kea trying to take out my windscreen rubber and disassembling a window wiper. A quick find here and off now home for a well deserved meal and a rest. Thank you gracie7 + Mum

20-Nov-20
Thank you for this Multi, gracie7 + Mum. I gathered the info some time ago & this is probably the 1st time I have been over the Pass since them ! It was a quick find.
Heading to Greymouth for a couple of days caching fun with lytteltonwitch; we look forward to catching up with you !

20-Nov-20
Took a few moments and great views here

27-Oct-20
Having a great time heading through here. Thanks.

09-Sep-20
Looked at this last night but needed to revisit the board to get all the correct details
Phone was nearly flat so didn't want to use all the battery up on the flash
Sorted early this morning and picked up the final as I headed over to Greymouth
TFTC the interesting multi
Keas have always interested me so I was interested to learn more about these intelligent birds

Day 4 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

Today was my drive from East to West. Kicking off the day near Sheffield, I was finally going to drive over Arthurs Pass and hoped to end up in Greymouth by the time the sun was setting. I've only ever been over this pass on the Tranz Alpine many many years ago so I was taking my time and enjoying the drive. Obviously I wanted to stop at the township of Arthurs Pass, and check out the local caches.

Parking up, there were a few other folk around but no-one anywhere near the info board as I wandered over to look at it and gather the required info. Once that was done the find at GZ was a very quick find. There were no issues with any aspect of this cache, so the log was swiftly signed and everything replaced exactly as found, and I was back on my way again after snapping off a couple of photos.

Thanks for placing this cache.

Long overdue caching road trip, heading to hokitika for the long weekend with a few stops along the way....

Solved this ages ago....always going the wrong way but not today....had gz to myself so nice quick find tftc

Another short and easy multi, we loved the questions and their interesting answers! It was fun and we learnt a lot about keas. Today we didn't see them here, but have met some near Mt. Cook Village and in Franz Josef as well. Great fellows!
Thank you for the funny multi cache!

06-Feb-20
Found with StreetWalkerNZ on our Waitangi Day drive to Hokitika, where we are staying a couple of nights.
Another cache that wan't on "the list" but pleased we did it travelling in this direction Smile. Enjoyed reading the panels and learning more about these cheeky parrots. We bungled with one of our answers (appreciated the check digits to point out the problem), but soon sorted out the problem.
GZ was deserted in the pouring rain, not even keas there. I ducked out and quickly found the cache then scuttled back into the car to do the paperwork. Cool multi, thanks.

06-Feb-20
#17793. First visit to the kea'osk; most interesting! GZ was a familiar location where we have had kea issues in the past (none spotted today). TFTC.

06-Feb-20
Found the answers while heading west and then found the cache - the rain had set in so no worries about muggles. TFTC

17-Jan-20
I have collected the required information many moons ago, and today was a good day to collect the final! TFTC!!

01-Jan-20
Found on a couple of days away in Arthur's pass. No kea today. Cache all good. Thanks

15-Dec-19
An impressive new "kea-osk", although it didn't provide much protection from the driving rain. However after gathering the required information, we sat in our car nearby to eat lunch, then set off to the west. More cold driving rain at the final, and although our GPS wasn't being very helpful, fortunately the cache was in a logical position. TFTC

03-Dec-19
On my second rainy day of my New Zealand trip I drove over Arthur's Pass. On my way I stopped for some geocaches. This was the one of them. TFTC!

25-Nov-19
Found the answers, did the calculations - but unable to get to the cache location because of major road works ....

24-Nov-19
Took a bit of studying the information here, but enjoyed it all. Very interesting birds. Took a bit of looking also, GPS wouldn’t settle down. Finally logic kicked in and there it was waiting for me to sign. TFTC

28-Aug-19
TFTC! Very instructive, no keas here but we saw plenty in Arthur pass parking yesterday

27-Apr-19
No keas or kea watchers today. Last night of the holidays in Arthur's tonight. Tftc

27-Apr-19
Got the info on another trip, and a quick and easy find today. Cheers

Easter holidays, and a road trip to Milford Sound. Time to start the trek home, via the West Coast. Off to Arthrs Pass today. Thunder, lightning and torrential rain did not bode well. The weather was a wee bit wet for cachiing, but managed to find a few between showers.

Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

23-Apr-19
Heard the birds saw one flying this morning. Visited the kea kiosk and read and read. Re read to confirm solution. Too far for walking. Nice birds. Been bitten by them in Fiordland.

31-Mar-19
I wanted to do this cache to fufill a challenge today - along with a puzzle, traditional and earthcache - part of the ?4 x 4 challenge - and we were heading over to the Hokitika for the weekend, I gathered the information on Friday morning on our way through. I had a look at this multi, worked out the answers, and then picked it up today. Only problem was that I hadn't quite realized where it was, so we were in Arthurs Pass when I put the co-ordinates onto my garmin, then we had to backtrack for several kms..... Anyway, a very enjoyable multi, TFTC and for helping me out with part of the challenge Smile

29-Mar-19
In the area at night for a couple ftfs....figured i may as well try and knock this one off too. Not wanting to appear toooo weird i read the sign by streetlight as opposed to pulling out the blinding flashlight. Numbers soon enough in hand with a correct checksum. Geepers, thats a detour. Oh well. Soon enough at gz making the find and sign. Time to head for home. Cheers!

02-Mar-19
We were over on a daytrip for a Maintenance Run so stopped and checked this one on the way home.
All good here and nice and dry. Happy Caching Smile

16-Feb-19
On our way back to Greymouth we had a nice but short stop. During this we found also this box. Thanks for the cache!

08-Feb-19
Day 12 in Newzealand. Today we drove from Arthurs Pass to Greymouth.
A very beautiful Country with lovely places. We were able to find nice Caches and See Lots of interesting places.
Thank you for showing us this place.

Greets from Switzerland

31-Jan-19
There were roadworks being carried out at the time we went through here and the stop/go man wouldn't let us turn into where we wanted to so this one is on hold till Kotuku-SI and I can return to claim the prize. Interesting KEAosk they have put up.

25-Jan-19
A cold breeze blowing up here this evening while I collected the info. Brrrr. Welcome relief next door for the family while I did the maths then off to the final. Nice work, no tourists here today. Cheers, looks like lots of new gravel in the river below.

08-Jan-19
On our way home so after reading the interesting information we had to back track to find the cache. TFTC

31-Dec-18
Thanks for showing this interesting board. At three viewpoint, I have seen Keas.
TFTC

15-Dec-18
Found on the way to Moana for the weekend. Very quiet here today. TFTC

13-Dec-18
This cache took a bit of patience. The information were quickly discouvered, but due to roadworks the entrance was blocked. After failing three times, we waited till all roadworkers went home in the evening and than tried again. THis time we were lucky.
Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache, and sorry for logging late.

13-Dec-18
We stayed at Arthur's Pass for three days, which was great, because it gave us the opportunity for some great walks (Scott's Track, Temple Basin and Devil's Punchbowl), some close encounters with Kea and a chance to complete this Cache, which was more difficult than expected...

When we arrived our first stop was near the Visitor Center where we spotted the Kea-osk, learned a couple of new things and collected the answers.

To get to the final took patience, only in the fourth attempt were we successful, because the access was blocked during the day due to nearby road works... But in the evening, once the workers went home the way was clear and we made a quick find.

All is in good condition.

Thanks for this Cache!

We did stage one last week in the wind and rain. We decided to find it today when during through to avoid the rain but no. It is raining again. Still made the find.

02-Feb-18
What a cool wee kiosk. Unfortunately saw a kea helping itself to abandoned food at the case, not good! Final a quick stop and grab, cheers. Fav point from us

26-Dec-17
Found with my wife on our way to Charleston.

26-Dec-17
We are on a holiday to Karamea. We are heading there via Arthur's Pass. We stayed not far from waypoint 1. So I collected the information and then solved it in the camper van on Xmas night. Today I collected it with JDSCOUT.

{*FTF*} [11:31] I havn't been up this way in a while, so last night I put together a list of a few caches to knock off. Very pleased to see this new one pop up, what a bonus! I wasn't planning on going past the village, but this was a fairly good reason to. No problems grabbing all the info, a very interesting and informative set of panels, and a quick find at the final. Made even more fun now that the sun has come out. GLB1721 TFTC (4056)
