Standing at 4am to admire the sunrise over Uluru, we continue with a short hike at the foot of Mount Kata Tjuta. I take the opportunity to answer the questions of this Earthcache.Found during our fabulous three-week trip to Australia : Sydney > Brisbane > Hervey Bay > Uluru > Great Ocean Road > MelbourneGreetings from France ! Merci murri24 pour la cache et la balade.Potholes at Kata Tjuta on Walpan George Walk : Cotation D1.5/T2.0 - Taille AutreCache #20187 trouve le 28 novembre 2024
Kata Tjuta is a must for everyone's travel bucket list, we were fortunate enough to spend time here for hubby's 50th and so glad we did. We were amazed being here, a place we will remember forever.Thank you for this Earth Cache murri24. Favourite point given for an unforgettable experience.
These potholes definitely don't look like giant's kettles (hiidenkirnu) back in Finland. That's what I had in mind before the walk. Magnificent views into the valley and also outside from it. Answered together with zirinna. TFTC!
Sent the answers for David343 and 2MuchMum.Enjoyed our windy walk up there this morning . Tftc
Answers sent and approved by David343 for both of us. A great morning walk and amazing sunrise. TFTC
In the morning we walked around Uluru. In the afternoon we visited Kata Tjuta. Again a fascinating landscape. Thanks for the earthcache.
A long hard day out during our short visit. Today was sunrise and cycle around Uluru followed by 2 Gorge visits at Kata Tjuta. This was the first of the two gorges. Great location and thanks for placing.
Enjoyed a lovely walk into this gorge, pondered the answers and then continued to the lookout. Love how green it is in here, a refuge for many birds. Tftc
This was a very strong cold wind here just after sunrise brrr.We still enjoyed looking at the geology though it is very unusual rock and very knobbly to walk on.
Greetings from Wales. We are in the area as part of our Australia big trip and aftet visiting Ulure yesterday, Today we decided to visit Kata Tjuta and what a fabulous decision that was. After our first walk we relocated to walk up this fantastic gorge. A bit of a weary one in the heat of the afternoon (would hate to be here mid summer) and into the cool of the shady gorge. Amazing to see these micro climates the gorges create with completely different plants. Answers sent to the CO so I hope they are OK. Thanks for bringing us here.
Together with Birba68 we spent some really nice days near Uluru and visited of Kata Tjuta, what a wonderful place. The answers will come soon Thank you
Brad and Janet are on an epic 6 week trip aiming to travel along the Canning Stock Route, the longest stock route in the world. 51 wells and crossing 4 deserts. We are traveling with a group of 11 vehicles on a tour led by Ron and Trent Moon. We have the geomobile towing the mini-geohouse on wheels. We have a couple of caches to put out if we find a good spot. We will grab what we can as we pass. We have finished the CSR part of the trip and are now headed home via Meekatharra, Sandstone, Leinster, Leonora, Laverton and the Great Central Road and Surveyor Generals Corner then across to the Stuart Highway. We started the Outback Way geocache trail in 2013. Slowly adding as we revisit from time to time. Hopefully we can add some more. We stopped to revisit both Kata Tjuta and Uluru and took the time to explore and collect the answers and take some photos. Answers sent Photo (not spoiler) attachedTFTEC
Absolutely beautiful and stunning location. So lucky to be out here. Thank you for the views, the geology, and of course the cache. TFTC!!
On our second day in the park, we visited Kata Tjuta. It was an easy walk to GZ, and we found answers to the questions, which we sent to CO.Thanks for the Earthcache.Kind regards.schuhlstroo
After watching the sunrise, we walked into the gorge to see some of the most amazing sites (and some lunatic climbing up the side for a photo op!!). We crossed the creek and looked for the answers. Answers submitted. Tftc here, adds to the walk!
Freddo sent Sallymander to Uluru and told her to find an earthcache. Earthscience answers submitted to the cache owner for approval. Amazing location. Thanks for the wonderful geology lesson.I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count and winning that one hundred word diamond badge again. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. We do apologise for the generic logs. Thanks to all the cache owner for placing this cache here for our enjoyment. Thanks for the cache. Merci la cache. Danke fr den Cache. Gracias por el cach. Explored Kata Tjuta with my Fiance and family from New Mexico, USA. We've met so many fantastic people on our trip through Australia!
Thank you for a fantastic earth-cache. Really enjoyed what I learned here. Hope the answers are right. Greetings from the cold North
When I was young we lived in an area with many gorges and fast flowing water where deep well-defined potholes developed. I was surprised to see these potholes in an area when the water moves quite slowly and there is not a lot of it. It was interesting to see these young potholes starting to form. Thanks for the EarthCache and greetings from the USA.
I am visiting Australia from Canada and today I am taking in Kata Tjua. Amazing. Answers sent. Thanks for the smile.

Velk cesta do Ocenie - den 24 - Nrodn park Uluru - Kata Tjuta, Northern Territory (70 km)Dnes byla na mm programu nvtva druh sti nrodnho parku - Kata Tjuta. V zatm nejluxusnjm ubytovn toti patn spm. Interesting place. Than I go back to Yulara and walk for this cache. It is still disable but I saw that yesterday was replaced. Yes, it is there and nice view too. Thanks for the cache and greetings from Czech republic.
After an early Uluu Sunrise adventure and final explore of Uluru,it was now time to head over to these interesting rocks.I headed over to the other earthcache first. I didnt have to walk up to Kaja Lookout but I did as I was curious why everyone was doing it. I then noticed the sign saying track closed at 11:00am or 36degreesso I ran around having a look in my pluggers.Fast forward to this lovely earthcache.Ran up to the potholes and then saw there was more to look at so I explored a bit more, even though I hadnt had breakfast .Lovely earthcache
Found by The Empire + HVisiting Kata Tjuta, was an extraordinary journey into the heart of Australia's Red Centre. This geological wonder, located in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, offers a unique and spiritual experience. Exploring Kata Tjuta, you'll find two popular walksthe Gorge Walk and the Valley of the Winds Walkthat allow you to immerse yourself in the stunning landscapes and ancient history. As we embarked on the Gorge Walk at Kata Tjuta, we found ourselves on a serene and contemplative journey. The immense domes of Kata Tjuta surrounded us as we began the walk. The towering red rock formations and the vast desert landscape created a sense of awe and tranquility. The Gorge Walk led us through Walpa Gorge, nestled between two of the domes. Here, the towering walls of the gorge provided a cool and shaded refuge, and we noticed the unique rock formations, layers, and striations in the sandstone. The walk was a spiritual experience, and we could even sense the sacred energy that flowed through this ancient place. At the end of the Gorge Walk, a viewing platform offered a breathtaking vista of the domes, allowing us to take in the awe-inspiring landscape.Throughout our adventure in Kata Tjuta, we were enveloped in the spiritual significance of this place to the Anangu people, the traditional owners of the land. Their stories and cultural history added depth to our experience as we walked through the ancient landscapes, witnessing the interplay of light, shadows, and colors on the sandstone formations. It was a journey that invited us to connect with the land, its history, and the enduring beauty of the Australian outback.Answers sent, favourite point added. Travelling with iluvtrekking up the WA coast to Darwin and down through the Centre. We made an early morning start to visit Uluṟu. After completing the LAB we found ourselves at this location so made our observations which have been forwarded to the CO. Thanksmurri24
Travelling with richlink from Perth to Darwin along the west coast and home again through the centre and the Nullarbor, picking up caches along our route. We made the find while at "The Rock" and the Olga's. Thanks for the Earth Cache at this amazing location.
Found with Mrs Oz KEG on our 12,000 km trip from Queanbeyan to Darwin and back, It was fascinating to see the completely different type of rock formations here at Kata Tjuta compared to Uluru. It was a chilly work to this cache and the end of the trail but as usual in this area, wonderful scenery. Answers sent to the CO, TFTC,
A nice little walk up in filthy weather to discover the info requested by the CO was hidden below swirly maelstroms of trothing water. I took photos and will Message guesses. Logging a Find in the hope they're feeling generous! Thanks very much for a truly dramatic spot I might have missed without this cache - I half expected to see dinosaurs up here!

Thanks for the earthcache!!. Having a trip up to darwin for the territory day celebrations and stopped into uluru on the way up to check it out.. then detoured over to check out these rocks!. Quick walk up to to the GZ worked out the answers and then back into the car to stop at curtian springs for the night.
I visited this earthcache on another enjoyable trip with FeatherWaite over 3-weeks through South Australia, Northern Territory and Western Australia. This time the plan was to head up to Kings Canyon, across to the WA border via Uluru and Kata-Tjuta, then down the Great Central Road, with a few side-trips along the way before eventually getting to the Goldfields and home via Queen Victoria Springs and the Eyre Highway.
We had some mixed weather to start, with a few overnight showers initially, but mostly warm and sunny days. The nights were often cold though!
It was not the first time I’d been in this area, but it was the first time I’ve had the opportunity for a good look around. What a great area!
Joint answers forwarded to the CO.

Made the observations on this earthcache during three weeks away with e.gregory1 on a trip along WA's Great Central Road and a caching circuit of the WA Goldfields. We travelled North on the Stuart Highway and out to Kings Canyon to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. From there we headed in a south-westerly direction along the Great Central Road with a number of detours along the way, including Surveyor Generals Corner and Empress Spring. Then it was down to Laverton and Leonora before turning South to Menzies and Kalgoorlie. A few days were spent on a circuit back up to Lake Carey and around to Queen Victoria Spring before returning to Kalgoorlie, then out to Coolgardie, Kambalda and Norseman, before heading for home along the Eyre Highway. Thanks for the earthcache murri24!
We did this walk early morning right after viewing sunrise at the dunes. Spectacular views. We especially liked seeing this type of conglomerate, which features much larger rocks than we have seen before in this type of stone. Thank you for bringing us here.
We decided to spend the day in the kata Tjuta area today. We first got up for sunrise and then did the valley of the winds walk, then came to the gorge.
It was very pleasant walk once we got to the shade and had a bit of breeze. A very spectacular place.
Thanks for putting this earth cache together

Many thanks for the geology lesson in your earth cache! It was really fun to walk this hike as well as the valley of the winds loop. I have been here before, but never had time to do the walks. TFTC!
Evorsion! Knew to me! Beautiful place! Thanks for the Earthcache from Pennsylvania USA gets a fav
We were here - Joodie & Joodax
after work walk, wine and relax!
murri24 Thanks for the cache and yellow dandelion.
Visiting Uluru and Kata Tjuta was a must for Jodie and I. It is simply a symbol of Australia and only on the spot do we realize how tangible it is .
We arrived in the afternoon, so that after checking in, we didn't waste time, got into the car and went to see Kata Tjuta. We were surprised that it was only a few kilometers in a straight line, but the drive through the big curve took a very long time and was pretty far .
Kata Tjuta herself made an absolutely incredible impression on us. The sun was already low and colored the rocks in incredible colors.
And since the sun doesn't set for a long time at this latitude, we had to add a lot in order to reach the cache, come back and take a nice photo. It was all possible even with the incredible clouds of annoying flies .
Long live Kata Tjuta!

A protože v této zeměpisné šířce slunko nezapadá nijak dlouho, museli jsme pěkně přidat, abychom stihli dojít až ke keši, vrátit se a udělat pěknou fotku. Všechno se to podařilo i s těmi neskutečnými mraky otravných much .
Ať žije Kata Tjuta !

Found with Kat33, Mumzi and TheGrunch. Greeting's from Calgary, Canada! After one day in Sydney we were in the air once more and hit up another site we had seen almost ten years ago and was the main reason we wanted to come back to the area. TheGrunch in particular really wanted to check out Uluru once more so we scheduled some time in this trip to head on over here once more. The flight went well and soon we were disembarking from the plane with a view of Uluru in the distance, kind of tough to beat that introduction here, . Got settled in the hotel. We had booked the same one was we tried previously, the Desert Gardens, partially due to some of the other options being sold out, which surprised us considering we're in the middle of the summer heat (not sure it ever dropped from 35 degrees during the day time while we're here). TheGrunch had wanted to check out King's Canyon (something we hadn't done prior) and had a choice in terms of which cache to target. Stuck with the easier walk and enjoyed the creek walk where we picked up the virtual there. One advantage of this decision was that we were brought back to the resort where we had a leisurely lunch and found the traditional along one of the pathways there. Yesterday brought us to Uluru itself and we did a traditional hike from the Mutitjulu water hole to the cultural centre by way of Kantju Gorge. Today we hit up Kata Tjuta and picked up the two earth caches there by doing a couple of leisurely hikes! This cache was cache 2 of 2 and was found on 2023.03.07 at 9:11:00 AM for a total of 5137. No dnf's as well which is always awesome to say! TFTC murri24!
Very interesting earthcache
Together with my favorite geocacher Milonguera we traveled to Australia We went to Melbourne via Singapore and from there we explore the south, the center and the east coast.
We walked around Melbourne and had a nice meet & greet event. Than we visited Philip Island with the pinguins and the Great Ocean Road. We fed and petted kangaroos visited the koalas and continued north via Coober Pedy to Alice Springs. We hiked around the impressive Uluru and through the beautiful Kata Tjuta.
**Thanks for the cache!
Thanks for showing the location and for hiding the cache. You should come to Berlin in Germany to find a lot of interesting geocaches, visit lost places in the surrounding Brandenburg and meet nice people at many events.
I wish you a lot of fun and great adventures while searching for the next geocache!**
Thanks for the cache!

On 1/31/23 when within 400 feet a Park Ranger ran us away from this cache. After the recent rain the plants etc. are blooming perhaps?
Wow, this was an excellent cache in a great location. We started our hike in from the parking lot and the views and experience just got better the farther we went. It had been raining prior to our visit, so this were relatively wet and lush. Arrived at ground zero and made the needed observations to earn this cache. Answers have been sent to the cache owner. Kept going until we reached the end of the trail where foot traffic was stopped and then headed back to the parking lot. Took some really nice photos, its almost unavoidable due to the beautiful land. Thanks for the great hike and Earthcache murri24, favorite point awarded.
Cache number 2600, found whilst travelling around Australia in search of adventures. Researched whilst on an amazing trip to Uluru and Kata Tjuta. TFTC
Took the walk into the gorge (not only) to research the answer. Unfortunately not so much wind and thus many flies - good if you bring a flynet. Pretty impressive site, thanks for showing.
TFTC!
TFTC!
Short walk then walked the longer loop - Valley of the Winds to two lovely lookouts. TFTC
Wow what a amazing spot, the walk was beautiful as was the gorge, thanks you for doing this earth cache
Had a great time at this site. Very overwhelmed when standing between these large structures. Great day out with the whole family.
we are in Yulara for the first time and are thrilled with Uluru and the Kata Tjutas. we give a favorite point.
Such an amazing place. Our AATkings tour from Adelaide to Darwin brought us here this afternoon and finished the walk with drinks and nibbles as the sun set on these fantastic formations.
I'm from NZ so am amazed at the variety in this vast desert outback part of your country.

Continuing our trip from Melbourne to Darwin and back, we are spending a few days at Yulara or Ayer’s Rock for a few days where we will catch up with a couple of friends in motor homes for a Journey north to Darwin.
Walked in this morning, nice and cool in the valley.

A lovely walk into the gorge. There has been a lot of work done to this walk, it is amazing! TFTC
We were here on a holiday in July and for some reason I recently (In December) decided to look at our cache horde and realised that I had forgotten to log the 2 caches at Kata Tjuta. We had 2 phones with us and sadly I left one on the plane, never to be seen again. After a bit of searching, I have found the photo for this area from the other phone, the answers were hopeless though. No idea where I would have put them. However, tonight, the inspiration hit me. I messaged myself!! And yes, there they were. Woohoo. I can not log this one. I spent a long time trying to answer the question regarding the potholes in the walls. Finally realised I needed to look at the ground!
With an upcoming holiday in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park I knew that this was going to be a special place and set myself up to make it a milestone event.
According to the National Parks information
“Anangu welcome you to Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, a living cultural landscape where earth and memories exist as one.
More than just a photo opportunity, our iconic rock formations hide ancient wisdom and diverse plant and animal life.
Look closer to discover an awe-inspiring environment where Tjukurpa whispers the creation stories.”
Today Kata Tjuta became cache find 9000. What a breath-taking experience.
However rather than just a single cache I’ll remember each and everyone of the Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park caches as that 9000.

Caching today with The X-Trailers who are forwarding answers for both teams. We enjoyed the walk into the Olgas. TFTC
Nice walk in this quiet place.
We were lucky enough to be alone at the end of the track and enjoy the sounds of birds and the winds.

I was at Kata Tjuta 15 years ago, but didn't know about Walpa Girge, so this gave me a good excuse to go for a walk here. I walked Uluru this morning and Kata Tjuta this afternoon. I finish a perfect 6 for 6 on caches within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, with four Earthcaches, a virtual, and an Adventure Lab. I'm surprised there are no physical caches in the park. Perhaps next time, but tomorrow I'm off to Alice Springs.
This is our second visit to Kata Tjuta and it is definitely worth coming back to do these two walks. A major delight today was the flocks of zebra finches that we saw along the way, flocking together, swooping around and suddenly breaking away when someone came near. Thanks for the earthcache in this beautiful location.
Sir_spectre and I went on a long overdue holiday to the Northern Territory. We had some great experiences and saw some amazing natural wonders. Not all went to plan - covid closures, flood effected roads, renovations, hot weather, some car troubles and not forgetting the huge jump in fuel costs
Any caches that needed repairs were fixed and numeous logs were replaced or added too.
Thanks to murri24 from mogni

Answers have/will be sent by mogni. nice location. A fly net would have been a good idea. So would not doing it in 36 degree heat.
Mogni and myself went to the Northern Territory for a 10 day holiday. We drove 5478 km's in those 10 days. The plan was to go up the Sturt highway and then go via Ayers Rock, King's Canyon and then through to Alice Springs stopping at the gorges/chasm/gaps along the way. As you can expect nothing goes to plan. Day 1 Adelaide to Cooper Pedy, made it just before the Roxby Downs turn off and blow the side wall on the tire of the 4x4, 193 km detour just to get a tire and even then it was the second tire place that had the tire the correct size. We had camels come in to the campsite in Erldunda Roadhouse, they even left hoof prints 1/2 a foot from the tent, at King's Canyon we had dingo's come through the camp ground both nights we where there and at Alice springs we had a mouse move in under the tent in their campground. Some of the aboriginal towns we passed where in lock down because of covid 19 so no going in to get fuel there, that changed some plans. The floods where way worse up in Northern Territory than i realized. Some creeks/rivers i could see the debris over 2 meters from the river bed and down one 4x4 track it washed the road away completely, the hole was 3/4 the length of the 4x4 and over 6 foot deep. The temp was 33 to 36 for 9 of the 10 days and finally cooled down for the drive home. We got 7 different caches types in the N.T. plus every different cache size. It was a good trip but not the one we planned. To many of the roads in the N.T. where damaged and not repaired ( still closed ) so that cancelled plan A but that's just a excuse to come back isn't it. Come back and see what you missed last time when the roads are fixed. We came with 19 regular " geocaching size " containers and a milk crate of small containers by day 7 all the regulars where used as replaced caches and by day 8 the smalls where gone. It was the UV rays a lot more than the floods that killed the caches and almost all the log books where saved, the micro containers seemed to have constantly full log sheets so they where replaced too.

We walked to the two lookouts and did the loop walk today, as well as the walk to the rock pools and we are exhausted. I would hate to do this on a warmer day. It was excellent though, I preferred this loop walk to the walk around the base of Uluru. I have sent my answers and hope they are ok.
What a spot! Have been here now a number of times but the sheer size and beauty of the place amazes us each time.

This was my last remaining cache in the area and also the last "tourist" spot I was yet to explore. The rest of the family were not interested in the trip and the hike, so I ventured out here solo and spent a few hours exploring the gorge and photographing Kata Juta.
Answers sent to the CO. My New Years resolution was to catch up on old logs - sorry for the late log.

Our second visit to this area, one of our fav places in Australia, TFTC
and ‘do a big lap’. Then Covid hit, super bad timing but it just made us more determined to go.
No full lap is complete without a lap of the little island first. So after tidying up our affairs and putting everything into storage, we celebrated Christmas with our families and hit the road.
We spent 7 magnificent weeks in beautiful Tasmania, then we just did a quick trip down the west coast of boring old Victoria, making our way to South Australia.
We spent 20 odd days along the Limestone coast, bagging out on Abalone most days, very few crayfish though The Fleurieu Peninsula and beautiful Adelaide done then off to the Barossa to follow the footsteps of my Great Grandfather who lived in a Willow Tree with his family.
After that we hit the Fleurieu and Yorke peninsulas before heading up through the Flinders Ranges then along the Oodnadatta track up into the red Centre then out into the bush past Hermansberg, down to Kings Canyon, over to Uluru and then down to Coober Pedy where we did some Opal mining. From there we head down to the Eyre Peninsula before heading across the Nullarbor.
This was one of the caches we found, sorry for the Generic log, unfortunatly I've madea habit of falling behind with logs and need to catch up and stay on top of them.
Thanks for being apart of the fun. TFTC

Lost GPS signal and discovered after I had crossed the GZ when I was 300 m back towards the car, time was of the essence as we had a helicopter ride booked and had to get back to the resort. Thanks for the cache anyway
