I had worked out the coordinates some time ago and today while in Ballarat waiting to attend an event I went after caches this one included. The cache was a quick find and access to the log achieved. Thank you ab1973 for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment. A favourite point.
We found it a bit creepy here This cache was great and will be getting a favourite from us! Lots of fun and thanks for the cache
Day 9 of my interstate trip. Today I left Maryborogh and headed into Ballarat where I met up with some locals at a morning coffee event and helped out at a CITO. After that I found some local Geocaches before I left town and headed towards Bendigo making it as far as Mount Franklin Reserve where I set up camp for the night. I managed to find 21 caches today and only 1 DNF.Was on the hunt for a Letterbox cache today and then this one popped up close by. The last step nearly had me until I noticed the needed detail. Cool little spotTFTC abl973
A lovely day out with Jonescrew to find this series that we solved. Jonescrew is new to puzzle caching and so we solved them together. The rain held off and we had a great day out caching. This series wasn't park and grab. More like park and a short trek into the scrub, either slightly up or slightly down the hill. Thx for the surprise and TFTC.
Walked into GZ and found the letterbox and quickly had it opened and log signed! TFTC!!
Fun Find, Took a hot 5 minutes to figure code but was a forehead smack moment when I did. Now to hope I don't get lost on thr way back to the car
Found with FeatherWaite on a 4-day trip to Victoria. From Adelaide. Our main aim was to complete the Ballarat Geotour and other caches of interest in the broader Ballarat area. There were also a number of events and a CITO to attend. The weather was on the warm side, but not too bad for this time of year, which made for pleasant camping each night. The cache was found in good order. Thanks abl973 for the cache.
#21661 @0945 Visiting Ballarat for the weekend from Canberra to do the Geotour and some challenge caches. Cache easily found with 2 others following the CITO. Log soon signed. TFTC.
Found during an extended weekend in the Ballarat area with e.gregory1, with the main aim of completing the Ballarat GeoTour, but taking the opportunity to attend a number of events and CITOs, and searching for a good range of caches while touring around the district. Thanks for the cache abl973!
Out enjoying the day with Tenkae. After a cuppa in town and a couple of Ad Labs, we headed to this first one which lived up to its number of favourite points. Thanks abl973 for your fantastic efforts and for contributing to this great game for myself and others to enjoy. Happy trails, Deanside
Great start exploring the haunted forest. Cache found in excellent condition. We're living on the road and using geocaching to discover interesting places. Tha ks for bringing us here
On the way from Spirit of Tassie to Maryborough.Certainly was a dark forest. Well done. TFTC
We were heading home to Maryborough after a day spent geocaching in Ballarat when I talked M into detouring so we could find this letterbox. We headed in from the south in our 4WD until the "track" became impassible and I got out to finish the last 50m on foot while M turned the car around. Turns out an approach from the north would have been easier. The forest here was a little creepy but not as creepy as the animation on the cache page! Thanks for find #5388TNLN
Find # 13265Solo trip to Creswick to tackle the 50 must see places series and others along the way. I've had this sorted for some time, so I decided to drive past the "entrance" to the 50 and continue down to grab it. I gotta say thr orb spiders are starting to take over the forest as I had to dodge a number of webs from the track to GZ. Great find at GZ too and worth a FPTFTC abl973
Drenched & chilled after completing what I could if the CDU series, I stopped here. I navigated to GZ but despite not finding a hollow tree, I followed the instructions. I think my shivers were from my drenching but they were maybe from the idea of a haunted forest - it was very dark despite only being afternoon.......... my Scottish thron pushed me on!! Favourite point from me
A few spare days to fill before Christmas so I made the decision to hit the road and go on a road trip from Adelaide to Ballarat. The main purpose of the trip is to tackle the Ballarat Geo Tour before they get archived in February 2024. Day three was spent getting festive on the Christmas Down Under trail, a spell in Miners Rest, a walk around Learmonth, west side of Lake Lake Wendouree and even found the time to pick up a few solved mysteries. Another busy day. Walking through the forest to the cache I encountered lots of spider webs and spiders which really set the scene once I arrived at GZ. A fun and great themed cache worthy of another favourite point. Thanks for the cache abl973.# # #13758 # #
We have got way behind in our logging and are trying to catch up and get our caching in order.Life has been pretty hectic this year, and a lot of it has gotten in the way of efficient logging of finds. We want to thank all the Cache owners for providing an array of caches for us around our countryside and in our cities. We apologise for the generic logs. We must do this to get through the backlog.Unless otherwise specified, all the caches we found were in good order.Thank you, abl973, for this Letterbox cache.
Having attended a recent event in Brisbane where a fellow cacher brought my attention to the geo tour in Ballarat and its up coming finish in February, i knew this was something I had to make an effort to get to.I also quickly realised that the attribute for the geo tour is the last one I need to achieve a personal challenge so the planning began.Today is day two of the mission and Im down to only two more caches to complete the tour and have the local geo art on the radar. I. Also hoping to squeeze a CITO and an event in if time is on my side lets see how we go.I jumped in The geowagon and ventured off the o soon find a nice parking spot. A short stroll later soon found me at ground zero. It wasnt long before cache was found and my name was printed for prosperity. I returned the cache to its hiding space and made my way back to the car. Ready to head to the next adventureA big thanks to the cache owners of Ballarat for making this cache available to be found.Cheers
Went out today to collect this cache. I was dropped off at the edge of the Forrest and made my way in. The cache stood out and I made my way straight to it. I found myself initially a bit confused as I wasn’t sure how to get past the locking mechanism but my first guess proved to be the right one. Cache and contents were all secure and in good condition. TFTC
Found the right tools to work out where I had to go. Went for a little bit of a walk and something just did not look quite right went and had a look scratch my head bang. The lock came open logbook in good condition signed. Thank you very much for placing it here.
After attending the fabulous Maker Magic event in Creswick this morning, the sun was shining so Chook headed off to find a few caches before going home.
Parked nearby and started walking towards the forest, when revving cars were heard up the road. Hmm that's spooky enough during the day when one is on their own, it would be much spookier at night. Chook paused for a second ready to get back to the safety of the car if she had to, but they seemed to go the other way. Once into the forest the cache was soon spotted, the code was deduced first up and the log was signed. TFTC abl973. All is good at GZ.

Made a special trip to Ballarat as I wanted to grab the remaining Geotour caches while they were still active.
The weather wasn’t too favourable but that didn’t matter as it added to the fun.
Thanks to all the CO’s for caches I found on this short interstate trip.
The direct route on a soggy wet night is not the right method, eventually found a suitable entrance.

Out for the day with beaanhead and her grandfather, showing them different types of caches around Creswick. Soo so scary. Great part of the forest. Lots of magic mushrooms here today. Another fun letterbox cache.

A highlight for us as we past many red toadstools on our cache search! A nice surprise to find a trackable too.
Well that was an interesting little adventure through the Xmas tree forest, my walking pole came in handy to battle the spiders.
Out and about on the holiday Monday and it was a drive around the forest here to grab a few caches. I like to use to GPSr to find a cache using this method and although my bearing was a little out, the cache was still found without issue. Once the log was in hand, the signing duties were completed and it was back to the car and off for another one.
Thanks abe973....cache all good and a fav point for the workings. TB dropped.

Spooky! There was plenty of spiders to complete the picture!
We are in Ballarat for a few days CRR (Caching, Rest, Recreation) and predominantly to do the Geotour, today I'd like to say we were out early ready and raring to get those caches...but...yeah nah...holiday mode....we ambled out of the van and made our way leisurely down the street en route to Ballarat. OOooOOOOoooOOOoo.. Yes, I concur..it really was a bit spooky. We heard much profanity from the orb spiders as we destroyed their webs while making our way through the trees to the cache. The language that came out of their tiny little pincers was truly shocking! The cache on the other hand was very cool and a fav point will be added. TFTC
Our Ballarat holidays are starting to come to an end and still need to visit a Premier and collect a few more Ballarat Geo Tour caches. This trip is focusing on these to the northern part of Ballarat, and then which ever other geocaches catch the eye.
Not sure if I took the direct or indirect route, but it was definitely the spider filled route. Saw the well sized geocache from some distance away and was already covered in, hopefully, just spider webs. As such I just walked straight there gathering even more spider webs.
Thanks for the cache ABL 973

Grabbed this letterbox cache as we left the haunted forest. Another puzzle we had sorted for our Christmas holiday in Creswick. SL at 11.13am Left: polar bear as the weather conditions don’t feel at all like summer in Australia! #9431 TFTLETTERBOX abl963
Ballarat and Rutherglen Christmas 2022 Trip. Day 3. Yesterday was a full day completing the Ballarat Geo Tour caches. Today Fitzy_1965, Smitten Granny, Kitty Katch, Joolay and albida33 jumped in one car and headed a bit further afield to do the Christmas tree puzzle series and a few older caches well to the north of Ballarat. Next on the agenda was getting to the challenge Caches that could be driven to a bit south of town. The final activity of the caching day was some of the LAB caches around town. At then end of the day we met up for a great dinner before retiring for a well earned night.
Having finished the puzzle series, we passed this as we left the forest. A short calculation later and the cache was in hand.

With a main aim of the Ballarat GeoTour, the Rutherglen Easter Series, Brolga Bill's Bike Trail (BBBT), and Brolga Bill's Puzzles (BBP), a group of us headed down from Canberra/Goulburn. Today's main aim was the GeoTour. What a great day it was driving around the Ballarat region. A Beautiful City. The next cache on our list. Funny bush bash through to GZ. "I am the Stick!" Quick find once at GZ. Signed the log, replaced the cache as found, them continued on to the next cache on our list.
Thanks abl973 !! Fav Point !

That was exciting ??. Albida33 drove us almost to GZ where the cache was found easily enough.
A much cooler day today with scattered showers while travelling with Albida33, Fitzy_1965, Joolay and Kittykatch. First up we attacked the presolved Christmas Series then headed back for some challenge caches and whatever popped up. Thanks for the company to my geobuddies and the caches to all COs. Logs were signed as BCI 22 as it stands for Ballarat Christmas Invasion.

While on my way to the MEGA event in Whittlesea, I had the opportunity to get in a few extra days of caching beforehand. This got me to go to areas I would not have normally seen and to some awesome caches. Today I arranged to meet up with the girls and we would do some caches around Ballarat, fill in some grid spaces, grab some as we passed and look at some labs. We had fun chasing Xmas trees, letterboxes and the odd virtual.
While we were chasing some geoarts, some multi’s, a geotour, a nice little power trail and a few as we passed by. As we were buzzing around, the logs did get signed with a bunch of names. Depending on who found the cache, this was the one who signed from the group, gees it was a lot fun and complicated, lol. So, we ended up going with TQ5, though some had chamad, nikid1, KMG ND, CM as well. It was a fun day, thanks to the CO’s for the placements.
this one was at the start of the power trail, a bit of a walk in and then with thinking cap on I got the lock to open, lol. Nice and a favourite point here.

Depending on the log size and who I was with this is signed as nikid1, ND1 or TQ5 (team Queensland).
The group of us from the north decided to spend a day in Ballarat as we were all after different DTs, attributes and a lovely geoart (as I love Christmas) that we could get here.
Stopped here just before hunting down Christmas trees. Got to the lock and thought oh dear but luckily a team member had an idea and bingo he was right!

I had been planning a "cache run" out this way for some time now and have to put it off for a number of reasons. Yesterday I looked at the weather forecast and thought "that looks alright, it shouldn't be too bad"... and so this morning I set off from Melbourne with the sun shining. Well, that didn't last too long and by the time I got to the top of Mt Warrenheip, I was in low cloud and persistent drizzle that lasted pretty much all day.
My first stop for the day was at Mt Warrenheip to pay homage to a really old cache and find anything else nearby... and then it was on through miserable drizzle to My Beckworth to specifically to find the **100 Earthcache Challenge**... and then on through more drizzle to Creswick Cemetery... to visit a "dead Premier" (art of a Wherigo if you aren't familiar with it) ... and then lunch.
Leaving Creswick I took the "old road" that runs beside the Ballarat road to look for a few caches placed along it. As I like Letterbox caches, I wasn't going to go past this one... even if the forest is haunted! I pushed on the GZ and arrived at can only be described a "genuine Letterbox cache''... and although it was my first letterbox cache for the day, it was not my first "cache in a Letterbox"... the latter actually being a Challenge cache! Gaining access was straight forward. The cache is generally in good condition but the stamp is leaking ink everywhere... I think it has got wet.
Thanks **abl973** for putting it here.

A weekend with catnap777 in Ballarat had us chasing caches on the water Saturday (among others) and a few more interesting ones Sunday before and after the CITO in Smythesdale.
Well aren't I a drongo. I wrote a whole log for this cache thinking I was logging another Halloween themed cache we did this weekend. Oops! I bet that must have confused the CO.
Oh well, at least I can keep the generic blurb at the front and the bit about how much we liked it is true for this one too. But it sure wasn't a micro.
A great hide fun to access all in good condition.
TFTC abl963. Sorry about any pre-edit confusion.

Found cache and log signed with dalerious .
We love doing projections for finding letterbox's and grab every opportunity to pick as many letterbox caches as we can find in every area we cache.
We happened to be driving to a cache we had placed on our list, when dalerious was checking out what else was around. Bingo, we'll take that one thanks. Cache found safe and sound and full of goodies. Unfortunately, no apparitions were there to greet us [xx(].
Thank you able973 for the fun.

Day 13 of a Victorian/ South Australian road trip with gwd.aussie working towards a distance based challenge. Back in the home state heading homeward bound picking up the distances we missed on the way over. Taking a break from the distance challenge cherry picking a few caches.
Made our way through the Haunted Forest unsure if we would run into ghosts, gouls, or with all the mushrooms fairies. Or maybe some other creepy crawly that make my skin crawl - in the end I was glad gwd.aussie got to GZ first.

OMG this was hilarious and terrifying! I shudder to think what I would be like at night! I was with my sister Pinkimbo, having just done half of the Christmas Downunder geoart. We made our way into the haunted forest but quickly got separated. It was a game of marco polo via squeals as we both walked through so so many spiderwebs to get to this cache. We had such a laugh doing this one. Thanks for the scary adventure.

The walk to this one reminded Mr SKI of some previous work done surveying plantations, except this one thankfully didn't have blackberries to bash through. Took a while for commonsense to click in to retrieve the log.
With work encouraging us to take some holidays and Mr SKI having quite a few weeks up his sleeve it was time to take another short break and do some sightseeing and caching in parts of Victoria we seldom visit.
This time we decided it would be Ballarat. There is a wide variety of cache types and quite a number of Adventure Labs to do, so the area is quite attractive. And that doesn't include the historical and interest aspects as well.
We organized to meet up with some friends while there so we would have the opportunity to do some joint as well as solo caching.
We have already had some great adventures on a few challenging caches that generated a lot of fun and as usual always good to find some pre-solved puzzles.
All logs signed as SKI Pair, RASP (Rebel Acts & SKI Pair or SP depending on size of logs and availability of space.
Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache abl973.

A fun cache with a great letterbox container. The forest is spooky, my geopooch started barking and growling at something i could not see, she was spooked.
How did we not see this?!! Amazing cache, we loved it! We're covered in cobwebs and spiders but happy with what you've created thank you!
last night we slept in the haunted forest
as an experience
as an experiment
not just to verify the unearthly nature of the woods
but also to test how it would go eschewing the tent and instead just sleeping in the car
most times when people sleep in their car
the cars are big four-wheel-drives or station wagons whose seats fold down horizon-flat
but long legs and a little hatchback was the evening cocktail here
not the usual combo
but when there are ghosts and ghouls and god-knows-what looming outside your metal shell
then you are incentivised to make it work

The location lives up to it's name would be very spooky at night.
Left a TB
Thanks abl973

Exploring Ballarat and surrounds in company of my teen and EarthboundChief. The weather started off looking a bit glum but the sun came out soon enough. After attending the CITO at the cemetery, then all the caches in the Christmas series, we continued to find caches in the area along the way as we started to make our way home.
The teen decided to stay in the car whilst the rest of us made our way into the haunted forest. Haunted it was. I followed the Chief in so he could break any webs across the way into GZ. Smart.
At GZ I let out an almighty scream. Good one. Got me good and proper.
Great location and hide.
Thank you for the cache here abl973

Today we found The Haunted Forest ?? on our travels. We are out this way having been to this morning and the CITO. Then we had a lovely afternoon collecting Christmas caches. Then a walk in the scary forest followed!
Thanks abl973 for being part of our geocaching fun.

We planned this weekend around collecting a nearby series and a few other caching goals in the area. The frosty mornings were replaced with clear sunny days, just right for finding caches.
This letterbox search was a great walk in the forest and would have been fun at night.
The cache was signed after a successful search.
Thanks for an excellent cache. A fav point added.

**Find #4705**
**Letterbox Find #77**
I headed to Ballarat early this morning to attend 3 events and also find caches of interest in the area. I had no problems finding any of these caches except for number 13. A great location and very popular with both trail bike riders and 4WD's today.

Well it’s 2021 and I have finally said good bye to a not so great 2020 and it was great to finally be able to have a reasonable holiday as I have not had a decent break since 2019.
So after making it to South Australia, crossing the border and then being greeted by a couple of very friendly SA police offices for which i had the official paper work to allow me to enter I then made my way west along the Eyre Hwy and I went as far as Penong and the Eyre Hwy on which I have not travelled along since the late 70’s when I was on a holiday with my folks and this was the last holiday before I started full time work as a sparkie.
I then toured the Eyre Peninsula and throughly enjoyed the 2 national parks down the bottom of it.
COVID got in the way and interrupted my dates so the planned Yorke Peninsula part of the trip will have to wait for another time except for Port Germein and Crystal Brook.
Finally recrossed the border back into Vic after being in SA for 3 great weeks near Pinarroo
And stayed at Murryville for the night.
Geocaching when towing a van is not always easy and I have to be a bit selective on which ones I decide to try and find for safe parking purposes especially along busy highways.
Heading towards Ballarat to attend the launch of the Ballarat GeoTour which is tomorrow afternoon.
So after reaching my destination for the next 2 nights which is Beaufort I then set the van up and spent the afternoon chasing a few select caches in the outer regions.
I made my way to the Haunted Forrest and upon reaching the outskirts I was a bit hesitant in going in as I was not sure what I would find in there.
Luckily no ghosts were found and I was able to sign the log and make a quick retreat.
Thanks abl973 TFTC.

Lucky me - no probs taking the direct route ducking around through the haunted forest and then getting a glimpse of the treasure through the trees. Even better is being here in CReswick camping out with a few geobuddies although I'm here on a solo mission as they've already ventured this way. Spent the weekend having a blast to celebrate the launch of the new one and only GEO TOUR in the land down under. We mostly chased puzzle solves, so after this its Christmas here I come. TFTC and the FUN.
A short walk through the haunted forest revealed something strange. Shades of Narnia! And where there voices in the trees. Signed log and left TB. TFTC

Awesome cache!! lots of fun swag and s trackage! ( well a copy tag) hooray!! A favourite point from us.
We made a plan with micaparamedic this morning to do the Christmas Down Under Geo art but before heading there we had decided to do the Victorian School of Forestry Lab and a couple of other Creswick caches.
Unfortunately we followed the GPSr to this one and although it may have been a road once it certainly hasn't been driven on for a long long time. Micaparamedic took the direct route and beat us to gz. The CO will probably have a bit of a laugh at this but we searched for a little while before we located the cache, tunnel visioned by what we thought we were looking for. Once we located the cache we knew what we had to do and our names have been added to the log.
Many thanks ab1973 for the cache, a favourite point from us.

The adventures geocaching has taken me on certainly has at times brought out my inner-child! Who can say no to climbing trees, jumping in puddles, balancing on logs, ducking and weaving through bush, coming face to face with wildlife, being one with nature, embarking on long walks, scampering up cliff faces and then there is all of the sand, mud and rocks you often get to play with too whilst searching for that prized little container and logbook! Geocaching has brought all sorts of experiences into my life.
Thanks for placing and maintaining this ;etterbox for our enjoyment.

Boo! The Haunted Forest didn't scare us!!
Then again we came in daylight and it might be a different matter in the evening.
A nice quick find before continuing on our journey.

It’s the 1st of December and the advent calendar has begun. Now that KristysAdventures has joined the camp we sat around solving the Christmas tree geoart while waiting for the rain to clear. Now that it’s dried up we are off to collect the trail.
After completing the Christmas Tree geoart we grabbed these couple of caches at the top end. A cool cache in the bush.
Thanks abl973 for the cache.

It was great to be back in the area caching and catching up my buddy Rebel Acts.
So many new caches online around Ballarat and Creswick since the last time I was up this way, and awesome to see some lab caches here as well.
Logs signed as RA/OM71
Cheers for the caches and the fun weekend

I had a few days off so plans were made to catch up with omegaman1971 and do some caching around the Ballarat and Creswick areas, We had a great time finding caches in the area and learning about the history of the region. The weather was a little cold but bearable.
Thanks abl973 for the cache.

Well, you certainly concealed this letterbox extremely well. After bush bashing firstly the wrong way ---then, returning to the car and, starting all over we finally found this cache. Anyway, all's well that ends well and I have another smilie

My 1000th cache find and a great cache to find on this milestone. My friend, Claybol, who had already found this cache thought it was a good cache for a milestone and this is where we targeted for such. Fun and easily found. I used the compass on my iPhone which got me there.
Thanks for the cache.......
Thanks for the cache.......
With my caching buddy Spiffy- overseas, It was a chance for me to go get some caches he has already found (there are lots as he is 1500 ahead of me and started 1 year after me...)
Ballarat was the target area with the Christmas tree puzzles the main draw card. This was too close to resist.
At GZ I found the awesome hide and had it opened quickly which was a relief.
Thanks to abl973 for the placement and fun.

Inside the spooky forest. Yes these type are a bit spooky. I was considering doing it at night. Glad I didn’t. Down from The Gold Coast
