The Outlets are gone too. The sign under the ad announces Zooks Bowling and Skating which flourished in the 1950's. Since then, the building has been a deli and novelty shop, an outlet store and antique auction among other enterprises. It is located on Walnut Street in Waynesboro, PA.
Found in downtown Madisonville, KY but a law office built in front of part of it. See DSHawk post for pix.
Got it. Decided to run out and grab a few locationless caches while I still could. This ad was for Ivory Soap. Interestingly enough, the alley this is in is called Packets Alley. The alley takes you to where the boats for land, so people travelling from Baltimore and further south to Philly would take the boat from this location. Oh, and people like David Crockett, Sam Houston, Daniel Webster, Stonewall Jackson and many more historical names.
This ad is located in Idaho Springs, Colorado. It was for Roburts Bros. Merctle. Co. Groceries, Hay and Grain. The current business listed Antiques but those stoves sure look like they are brand new to me.
This fading Coca Cola ad is located in historic downtown Attalla. Sorry the picture is dark. It was dusk by the time we found it.
I'll have to upload the picture tomorrow - when I get a bit of assistance doing it.
Hi,
we found this one in Koblenz/Germany. The picture is really bad (mobile phone cam), we will supply a better one, soon. It shows a really faded ad, advertising detergent (or washing agent? what is the right word?). We never saw that in shops, so it (the ad) is ancient.
Regards,
Sabrina & Rainer

Fadded ad? How about a fadded add from a Sign company that use to paint the ads?
Located in Galesburg IL. this fading ad is on the side of the old P&M Sign Company. The ajoining building burned to the ground in the mid 90's and was turned into a park. The sign company then moved to another location.

This ad belongs to Yi-An Px store, Xin-Zhuang, Taipei.
The store is still alive, but the ad is fading.
The 2 sentences said "Provide good medicine to protect your health, & health is wealth."
I bought 6 capsules of Tamiflu to prevent bird flu here some months ago.

It was a misty Christmas Eve when I photographed this fading ad in Plattsmouth, Nebraska. The book store ceased to function after WW-II.
Four, possibly more, layers can be discerned. Apparently both Coca Cola and 7 Up signs also appeared here. Traces of a sign for the Albo Bar, which now occupies this building, are also visible (black lettering).

Not only is this sign faded, one of the letters has fallen partway off. This is the old Kelley's TV store in Ames, Iowa. This is also a flatiron building (one end of the store is much more narrow than the other end).
Found this one driving around Somerville, MA. Ad is fading from the side of what is now a beauty parlor of sorts. The ad is for Royal Crown Cola.

This sign is for the Ada Village Hardware Store in Ada, Michigan. Store still in operation after many years! This is a side view, the entrance is around the front of the building.
This is a very faded sign on the side of a building on Duncan Street in downtown Toronto. It reads "Southam Press Toronto".
This is the old ad for the Rex Hotel that thrived in Truckee Ca during the turn of the century.
This one is big but hard to read and some parts were missing.

I spotted these old signs above a small corner shop near the center of Oxford in the center of the uk,I think the ads were painted over the old windows when there was a window tax in the uk.t4tc.
I always admired the fading ad for Coca Cola on the side a brick commercial block on South Main Street Uxbridge. When the Diner was removed at least ten years to increase the parking lot for the Bank which had refurbished the nearby train depot, the sign was even more visable and move to repaint it resulted in an extented advirtisment for a still active product.
This is for a hairdresser in Boyne City. Because of the angle, I couldn't take a pic with the sign and my GPS....not to mention it was only 1 degree outside.
Found this fading Ads in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. To get near of it you just drive to the upper level parking. It is about a defunt store selling domestic utilities like this big stereo cabinet.
It seems that this ads was paint over a previous one advertising Orange Crush drink!
Thanks!

THIS WAS LOCATED ON THE SIDE OF A BUILDING WHICH USED TO BE LOCATED ACROSS THE STREET FROM UNION STATION IN DOWNTOWN HOUSTON, TX. I AM SURE THEY FED MANY TRAVELERS ON THEIR JOURNEYS.
I am a driving instructor. Driving back to the driving school office today, I spotted an old faded ad on a wall just as you come out from under the Metro North (New Haven)/Amtrack Train line on Boston Post Road (U.S. 1)in New Rochelle, NY
I did not see what it was advertising, BUT I did recall this cache. Back at the school office I had time to pop on the comp & look up the details.
I left to get lunch & then go to my next student, planning to pass that spot SEE what it was & get GPS coordinates. A few hundred feet before I got there, I Spotted ANOTHER on a building wall. IT was OLD & faded saying REELECT (The name) Assemblyman.. I as going to do both in one post. Then I walked over to the one I saw on the wall under the train... IT was advertising "the Glen Island Casino" (in New Rochelle), sad Turn here, w/ an arrow...
I know that place is still there JUST NOT what format now. I also realized all I had was my cell phone (camera) & was not going to be abel to get good pix of these faded signs w/ it.
The driving school is about a mile away so I planned to bring a camera w/ me tomorrow.
Then at a traffic light 2 or so miles away (not far from my next pick up I saw ANOTHER faded sign. I still had plenty of time .... so I pulled over, took GPS data & as you can see it was low enough to get good pix even w/ cell phone camera.
It is "Lisella's Wines & Liquors" on W. 3rd. St. between S. 11th. & S. 12th. Ave.'s. Mount Vernon, NY.
As I was taking the pic an older guy in his 60's is my guess, saw me & said YUP Lisella's was gone over 50 years BUT the wall still says it was established in 1912. he said he had worked there way back when & told me something about why they opened there & (why he knew &) why it did close. BUT the warehouse was still over there, pointing to an active warehouse a block or so away. What he said did not make a lot of sense so, who knows
As I said all I had was my cell phone camera, so it was not possible to get a pic of me or the GPS in the pix. I will try to get back there w/ another digital camera & someone who can get a pic of me & GPS in front of the sign & add it to this log later

Found these faded signs on an old brick building in downtown Tulsa. Sorry they are not that interesting. There are some serious cracks in the bricks. There were actually three faded signs on this building.
Hunt in HsienTien City, Taipei County, Taiwan, R.O.C.
This painted advertisement on the wall is an old brand of Chinese medicine for flu.

If you look carefully, there are actually two signs in this photo, the lower one for the steamboat company & the top one for a hardware/furniture company.
This is a sign for a company that was in charge of the steamboat Enterprise, it is located off of Rt 40, in Brownsville, PA. Enjoy the photos.
The very first steamboat, the Enterprise, to travel to New Orleans and return by its own power was designed and built in the Brownsville boatyards and launched from the Brownsville Wharf in 1814. The wharf, which is in the process of renovation, is located at the crossroads of Bank and Water Streets.
Thanks for the hunt, that makes kill #163 for us.

There's a lot of fading adds downtown montreal, quebec but I've choose one in my borough Ste-Anne-de-Bellevue. An old movie add on a desafected theatre.
Saw this while I was doing one of the stages at teh WGAW Event Cache so I had to log it, it ended up costing us in the long run though...TFTC
Noticed this perfect example across the road from my girlfriends house in North Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.
The building it's on is up for auction, so no telling how long it will last.

Faded adverts on Henry Wade's warehouse, built c. 1860 in the Alviso area of San Jose, California. Originally it stored hay and grain but later was used to store and repair stagecoaches including those of Well Fargo. It was later used as a movie set as well. The faded adverts are clearly there but not enough remains to tell exactly what they were.
This is an old Frigidaire sign from years ago that pointed the way to the store in Water Valley Mississippi. This sign is on Dogwood Lane just north of Water Valley. There are still a lot of the old stores in Water Valley that are still open and look the same.
While doing a local multi-cache with the first geocacher I have met, he pointed out this old fading sign. Snapped a quick pick and we were off to finish the multi. I have always loved old fading signs. I wonder what life was like and what these signs looked like when then were new. Who was the painter... so many questions.
This sign is in the Historic area of downtown Fort Smith AR. at 5th and Garrison. My how prices have changed.
Thanks for this cache.

On US 322 a few miles southeast of Williamstown, New Jersey, USA. Says "COACH AUTO PARTS".
I've been looking for a year for an example to log. This one is on a roof, not a wall. Hopefully it fits the spirit of the cache. Thanks for keeping my eyes open.

Thid ad is not really faded, because it is recently restaurated. It is an ad for a no more exististing company trading vegetables and fruit. The 3 digit-phone number also reveals that it is an onld ad, because today phonenumbers are 7 or 8-digit!
The picture is taken in Beekbergen, near Apeldoorn in the Netherlands.

Found this in Valby, Denmark. It is an old ad for an insurance company, “Fjerde Søâ€. The insurande company doesn’t exist anymore; it is now a part of a bigger insurance company, Codan. The ad says something like “If you are insured in “Fjerde Sø†you have nice cards on the hand (played your hand well)â€.
Behind there is another ad, for a construction company, “Repabygâ€.

This wall is located on the corner of 5th Street South and College, in Columbus, MS. As you can see, there have been several ads painted over the years here. See what you can pick out...
I found this on the side of a building in Coolidge, GA as I was passing through on my way to a cache. There are a lot of these in the small towns of the area. TFTC.
We were searching for this fun find for awhile, and then found it on our vacation on the east coast of Oahu, Hawaii. TFTF. Mahalo!
This ad is on the side of Moncrief's Furniture which started out in 1899 as Moncrief's Gen. Mdse. Moncrief's didn't actually close until about 2001 when the 4th generation of the Moncrief family decided to close it. The building is now rented by another owner who sells antiques. It is located in downtown Prattville, Alabama, USA.
when I read this cache I thought imediatly on this ad. It's the ad of a soap. It's made of "azulejos" and they are on a wall of a store house ("armazem") Grandela that was burn down in the 80's (if I remember correctly) remaning only the walls.

This is on the corner of Market and Perry street in Buffalo, NY USA. The building is no longer in use, it has broken windows and trees growning on top.
This is a sign on a building on Montana Ave. in Billings, Montana. The sign says McCormick Royal Blue. I'm not sure what it was except maybe an old bluing that was used in washing cloths to make them look whiter. The second picture shows the company.
We found this old Coke sign on the side of a building in the historic district of Corinth, Mississippi. The building is less than a hundred yards from the site of the battle fought between the blue and the gray on October 3, 1863.
I found a really faded sign in my home town of Peekskill N.Y. I could barley read it. The Sigh is for a compnay that has been out of business for some time now. It reads Duluca Contractors Residental & Commercial. Thanks for the cache had dome fun driving around town looking at old biuldings.

Found this old fading ad in the town of Williams, CA. Apparently this building used to be Sparky's Pizza...now it is Ana's Salon. "Sparky's" still looks fairly good, however, "Pizza" is just about gone....so it part of the outside stairway.
This old hotel is located on the main street in Greybull, WY. It boasts not one but two Fading Ads. The bottom of the building is now a video store.
This was in Peoria, Il. An old International Harvester building now used for storage.

We found this fading ad in Lübeck, Germany. According to the sign, the company named "C.W.A. Spiering" was once dealing with resources for the paper industry. Unfortunately, we could not find any more information about this company.
A company named "Weier Electric" is located in the building nowadays. They build electric motors for wind turbines, cogeneration power plants and naval ships.

This faded ad is located on Kenndy St. in Bradford, PA. The ad may be faded, but business still seems to be alive from peering in the windows in the front.
This is two in one, the oil at the sign on the wall is no longer for sale and the car repair place is also closed. A fun thing about this is that my (grodan) father has worked at Sigurd Larssons Bilverkstad 1950-1953.

This faded ad is GREAT! It is an ad or a sign on a building next to The Troubador, A world Famous Night Club in West Hollywood. You can only see it from across the street, which is why, I guess I have never seen it before. This building is on the border of West Hollywood and Beverly Hills at the North East Corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Doheny Drive, on the 9000 Block of S.M. Blvd. Go take a look!! This sign is located in the Charlestown Navy Yard, Charlestown, Massachusetts. I saw this one on one of the cranes while visiting the USS Constitution. A MUST SEE!
We passed this on the way home today from the "Larchmont Lark" letterbox hybrid geocache.
This is the side of an old apartment building in New Rochelle, NY on the corner of North Avenue and Garden Street (the "Thrift Store" for the New Rochelle Humane Society is on the first floor of this building facing North Avenue). Until the building in front of it was knocked down a few years ago, these two ads were "covered up" and I presume that based on the fence in front of it, construction will cover it up again one day so enjoy it while it's there!
The first ad is for Ruppert Beer, a major New York area brewery during the first half of the 20th century. It's founder, Col. Jacob Ruppert, owned the New York Yankees during their 1920's dynasty and is the person who bought Babe Ruth in 1919 from Harry Frazee's Boston Red Sox and began "the curse of the Bambino" (or for us Yankees fans "the luck of the Bambino"). Coincidentally, this sign was visited by us on the very afternoon that the Yankees clinched the American League East title from the Red Sox.
The second ad is for Allied Moving and Storage. I believe the company still exists, but the use of letters for the first two digits of the phone number means it is at least from the early 1970's and I'm willing to bet based on the "style" of the ad that it is from much earlier (my guess is that is was put up in the 1950's or early 60's).
My wife tried hard to get a picture of both ads together, but they were too far apart as she began to rub up against the New England Thruway (I-95) and could not go much farther. The picture of me with the GPS in front of it (just the Ruppert Beer sign) does not do justice to the signs so I've included other pictures as well.
