Found this yesterday with a junior team Stammily member. We are on a short holiday in NW Tas and finding a few caches (as many as the teen will tolerate ). Thanks for the EC, what a fantastic spot

Big day today. Up early in Forth and ready for Parkrun. Trying to do all the mainland Tassie Parkruns so off to Wynyard to tackle theirs with 4 stretches on the beach. After PR we went for Brekkie at the Vault, cool place with great coffee and produce but not very imaginative in the breakfast stakes. Filled us up anyway. We then cached our way back to Forth. I did have a couple of dnf that were just too good for me, sadly too far to come back for as our time in Tassie comes to an end.We had forgotten how beautiful the coast is along here, amazing and once again lucky with more excellent weather. We had a long but rewarding day out. Thanks to all the CO for placing and maintaining caches for us to find. We found some great hides today. Last time we were in Burnie we couldnt access this EC as there was a big crane right next to it. Thanks for bringing us here to admire more coastal chaos. TFTC

#20738 - 8:49:00 AM; Arrived in Devonport this morning on the Spirit of Tasmania and headed to Burnie to collect a couple of caches, including this one. GZ is currently fenced off, but I managed to cobble some answers together, which have been sent off to the COs to get the OK. Interesting geology, so adding a fave for the location. Tasmania Trip Day 4. My first full day in Tasmania was based out of Burnie. I did a few caches around own before it got too busy and then expanded the area to caches in the Burnie Region. Once I had done that for half the day, I headed a bit further west to get my next county. I enjoyed visiting Wynyard and the Table Cape area, even if it was fogged in. Did I say it was supposed to be a heat wave ? They are warning for one, but I got quite wet at times today. I headed back to Burnie for another quiet night trying to do some logging. With most of the stones in he area fenced off I had a go at doing this one from a distance I have my image and have sent off some answers. Thanks for the cache maccamob45831.2 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & Ballarat Geotour 2 A#520**Albida**

Interesting formation - shame it can be accessed atm. Visiting on the Noordam. Thanks for bringing us to this spot.

04-Mar-24
We had a nice walk around Burnie today as our planned outing was canceled. This was one of the highlights for us. These type of columns always impress me. These type of basalt columns are so interesting in how they are formed and appear. After checking out the accessible vertical columns, we got close and used our camera to try to see what we needed to see. The change in the structure as they approach the possible source is neat. We went to Devils Tower in Wyoming back in 2022 and its truly amazing. The CO has approved us to log. Deserves a fav point regardless. Hopefully it will be available for a close up look soon. Thanks for the EC!

Great Earth cache! The rock columns are beautiful and to think their right in the city is amazing!
Thanks for the Earth cache, Maccamob, it bought me to an awesome place right on my doorstep.

22-May-23
We love earth caches so we were looking forward to visiting this area which we had visited many years ago. Unfortunately there is a great deal of work going on and the area is fenced making it difficult to see some of the essential features clearly. Nevertheless we were again amazed at structures and how the buildings are constructed over them. Managed to get enough info together to send to the CO and get approval.
TFTC.

Another very interesting place discovered due to my addiction, Geocaching!! I didn’t have much light left in the day to see all the details but was able to send my answers in and get the of approval. This site reminds me of photos I’ve seen of The Giants Causeway. I will definitely be back during daylight hours to really appreciate the beauty of this wall created by Mother Nature, uncovered by man. Magical

We are enjoying a vacation in Australia after having just been in New Zealand. What wonderfully beautiful countries to explore. We made a stop here while we were in Burnie to complete this earth cache. Cool We wondered about the columns as we walked up to ground zero. Are they real? Our question was answered as we reviewed the geocache page and completed the tasks. Our answers have been sent to the cache owner and we will post a photo.

Thank you for creating this earth cache for us to find. Big GrinCool We enjoyed our time here. Smile

Thank you for placing and maintaining this geocache for all of us to try to find. Smile We appreciate it.

The final day of my Tasmanian Odyssey and it’s all about the LGAs… again… After all it is a day of the week ending in “y”…

Having been here earlier in the week, I picked an area that I could visit quickly…

It was an interesting spot with a fascinating representation of the volcanic activity… one of those locations that would be so easy to just walk past everyday without actually seeing it…

Thanks maccamob for bringing me here today…

What an extraordinary place. I don't think we have ever seen such a phenomenal way to look after this unique geological site. Trust the Tasmanians to figure out a way.

Thank you our dearest friends D & M for bringing us here Big Grin.

We had this trip to Tasmania on our wish list very soon after we met. The meticulous planning began a few months ago when we finally set a date to sail to a place that I had been before, but never cached, and for dalerious, a place he cached, but never really got to see the real beauty of this place, and all it's glory. God's country about sums it up.

We started our adventure in the North West and traversed the entire Island in 10 days. We thought the weather was going to thwart our plans, but all it did was change the itinerary a tad.
Where back home was flooding, we had mostly sunshine here; apart from the North of your lovely state, and our thoughts were with those who were affected both here and at home.

Caches here took us to extraordinary places; one's we will never forget.
We also got to meet some cachers; we can't wait to meet the rest Big Grin.

Wow! A maccamob cache all the way over here. Surprised
Well we were not going to drive straight past it even though we were keen to reach Stanley on day one of our Tassie Holiday. Razz
And we were quite glad we did stop for a look, so thanks for coaxing us here D&M to gawk in awe at this rather special geological sight. Cool
Catnap777 will be sending our colaborated answers through in due time, but for now we just want to keep the ducks in a row and say.....

On a road trip from Hobart to Stanley with my mum over 2 weeks. We visited a number of towns and we were mainly targeting Virtuals and Earthcaches due to the amazing locations they take one to. We did pick up the random traditional, multi, puzzle, wherigo and even a couple letterbox caches whilst travelling.

As our road trip of Tasmania continued, we have done a majority of the East Coast and now we are heading west along the north coast. We are now heading from Tullah to Stanley.

We made our way to Cradle Mountain as I was super keen to go see the Tasmanian Devils at the Devils@Cradle sanctuary. I sponsor a number of Tassie Devils at this location so it was amazing to see them in real life. They really are very ugly cute animals hahaha. It was time to make out way to Stanley and of course, we took the scenic route where we could. I noticed this one on the map, and we had done other Chaotic Rocks Earthcaches so decided to give this one a crack too. Gathered the required information as detailed in the listing and emailed through to the CO. We got the go ahead from the CO to log, much appreciated.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this Earthcache maccamob Big Grin

Whilst in the immediate area searching for the "Columnar Basalt" traditional, we sought out enough info. to present some answers for this earth cache. Have received the okay from the CO's so here's the log. Thankyou to maccamob for putting a string of earth caches together along this stretch of the n.w.coast.

What an interesting rock formation, with a building perched on top. Visited this spot with JACS and Gcoven early evening while we were weaving our way to Tullah for the evening and to beat the rain. Thanks maccamob for highlighting this geological feature.

28-Oct-21
Dropped in to check out this Earthcache. Got more than I thought would be there. It certainly was an eye opening site with plenty on display. I have learnt so much through Earthcacheing previous I would have just thought - that’s a rock wall. Answers to come.

I have never been to this area of Burnie before so firstly thank you for the cache. I find it a very interesting geological area.

04-Feb-21
Hello, We found your cache on day #( I have actually lost count of the day, lets just say month 1) of our Lap year trip.
We sold up our hobby farm in South Gippsland and put everything in storage, we are now living on the road full time in our caravan and ‘doing a lap’ for the next year or so.
Sorry for the generic log, but time, data and reception (gosh Tassy has spasmodic reception) are all factors in the decision to use a copy and paste log, we will always endeavour to leave a photo or two with each log and always leave a favourite point and unique comment(S) where applicable for the truly outstanding caches.
Earth, Virtual, Letterbox, Handmade and Gadget caches are always at the top of the list for us to find.
Thank you for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to find today.

While I've been to this spot on other caches I have never noticed the difference in the columns before....which I found very interesting.

On a fun family holiday travelling around this beautiful state. We stopped in at Burnie for a bite to eat for lunch. While the family were finishing off their tasty treats I snuck over to work out the answers for this EC. Love looking at rocks! Especially funky ones like this. Thanks for the cache maccamob Big GrinAnswers sent via messages on the 28/1/2021. Sorry for the late log!

I have seen basalt columns from afar before, but this was amazing to be so close yet be right in suburbia. This was spectacular and I am so grateful that an Earth Cache gave us reason to stop and admire it. Otherwise we would have been so busy looking at the view we would have missed it. Thanks for another great Earth Cache lesson. A favourite point from us.

11-Oct-20
I would never of realised the significance of this area without having a cache to come and discover it. I have expanded my knowledge about the amazing place we live in in Tasmania. Thanks for the Earth Cache

Placemarker log if i ever get round to it.

Well this week myself and Goose were meant to be on the mainland at a Mega and we did think we would be going to this one but with Victoria letting the side down and restrictions on moving between states back in place all the Mega's we canceled or postponed.

With time booked off work we came up with a plan to do a lap of Tassie and collect some of the more out of the way caches in the West and then pick up some others on the North Coast before hitting Launy and then heading South to go home.

From filling the car on Monday to filling again when we got home on Saturday we covered just over 1800Kms, along the way we picked up 18 GCA caches, 57 GC caches, 1 puncture, 1 chipped windscreen and 1 engine warning light.

Found on 01/10/2020 at 7:11:00 PM thanks to maccamob for placing this cache for me to find.

I have logged caches here before, some CGA and an archived GC. There is another cache here too but this seems t be a spot for people to just sit in cars so we didn't try and find the traditional. Nobody can muggle an earthcache so we made our notes and observations under their noses.
I don't want to give anything away so my pic is just a snippet.
Logging with permission.
Thanks maccamob

Enabled following rleaxation of the Covid-19 restrictions.

28-Mar-20
Disabled for the duration of the Covid-19 crisis. Although exercise is ok, beaches, parks etc are gradually being closed, and we are being asked to stay home. The virus can be transmitted by surface contact, so please don't take the chances. Geocaching is a game, and we are dealing with a serious Public Health issue, so we need to get our priorities in order. Please stay at home!
We believe the responsible thing is to disable all our caches, until this crisis passes.
Thanks.

I’m sorry for the late log. Just now catching up on my geocaches after returning to the states last week. Hoping I remember enough of what I saw to send the correct answers!
Greetings from Washington state. We are here off of the Sea Princess at our 2nd port of call. Our 28 day cruise is being shortened because of the corona virus.
I loved seeing this almost perfect basaltic rock. We have a lot of this in Washington state also. TFTC

Staying in Burnie for the night with work and decided to take a short stroll along the waterfront before breakfast. This was an unexpected piece of interesting geology. Thanks for setting up this earthcache!

This was a pretty amazing spot, the geology was cool and a spot I probably would not have stopped at.

Today was my last day in tassie for the time being, unknown when the next return will be but I assume it will be soonish. With some time to kill between lunch and the spirit of Tasmania departing. I decided I would head to burnie for an event and collect some caches along the way.
Overall 26 finds for the afternoon.

Thanks for the cache.

Find #4641. Found @ 13:40 with The Good Lady Wife

We're on a family holiday to the Apple Isle and what better activity to do as a family than find some caches... except that the rest of the family aren't really into caching. Oh well, at least TGLW comes along for the walks.

We had a lunch of fish and chips by the water, and then went for a walk to find a couple of caches.

Grabbing the info for the earthcache was simply a matter of taking a couple of photos, so we could appreciate the rock formation and the impressive waterfall. We happened upon some tourists that were off a cruise ship and wanting to take a picture, so we swapped photographer duties.

Answers sent to the ECO mob and permission to log received shortly after,

Took nothing, left nothing, signed log and visited some trackables.
Thanks for the earthcache maccamob

We are now home from our family holiday adventure so I’ve taken a minute to reflect on some memorable moments.

The city of Auckland, New Zealand saw our first cache just a few seconds after getting off the plane at the airport, and then later amidst the fish market and Sky Tower. We cached our way through Rotorua's geysers and bubbling springs while touring with a cousin who lives nearby and joined us for the day. Then to Napier where the caches were stashed amid all of the Art Deco buildings and antique cars. In Wellington, we encountered a breathless Josh caching all the way up to Mt. Wellington. At our next port Akaroa we found caches in Rolleston, Arthur’s Pass (by train!) and at the lighthouse at the port. We then set sail through Milford Sound and onward to Australia.

In Hobart, we found Josh and Lee in the park by the port and searched in vain for a caching event, but could not find them in the New Year's Eve crowds. At Port Arthur there were caches in the gardens next to the remains of the Penal Colony and along Pirates Bay where we saw Remarkable Cave, Devil's Kitchen and the Tasman Arch. When we arrived in Burnie we walked to caches in and around the small town of 22,000 and we followed a path along the seaside to a man made waterfall and extraordinary rock formation in a park. We cached and toured at the iconic Sydney Opera House, walked the Royal Botanic Gardens, and sat in a chair that was hewn in stone. We made our way to Lane Cove and posed for a selfie
under giant gum trees, seventeen of which are squiggly! In the iron oxidized soil of Uluru we found caches among the rocks and paths, including a miniature version of the inselberg itself. Then we flew to Melbourne where our first cache was a puzzling one in an alley next to Flinders Street Station. We visited Hosier Lane's Street art while on our way to another. We drove to the Great Ocean Road and cached at a really cool place Crowes Buffer Stop, which is the site of an abandoned rail stop complete with flat bed car, tracks and sign. We finished our trip in The Grampians where in Halls Gap we found our last cache along with cockatoos and roos in a rock climb just above an incredible view of the valley below.

It was a fantastic month of adventure and family – my husband Miles (harmony9), my daughter Carey (forestmanjoo), and my son-in-law Josh (foomanjoo), as well as a new friend that we met aboard our same cruiseship, Lee (Cache_Lee). We saw some amazing sights and met some wonderful people.

Thank you for placing this geocache, an important part of our memories of this adventure!

Sent answers to the CO. On the Holland America Noordam and here for the day. Very nice Basalt Columns. It made me look at them more closely. Visiting from Hawaii. Thanks so much maccamob for placing this earthcache for visitors like me to find. It was amazing to see the apartment building erected over the columns.

With a bit of time off and a chance to get away from Sydney was what I needed TeamMerlin was also free at the time. So Tasmania seemed to be a good place to spend about a week. It has been a while since I last went when I was there for photography and before I knew about Geocaching. We found a lot of nice caches including one of the oldest caches which was a Hide month I was missing. A lot of puzzles had been solved either before we went down or the night before between us. While here we also visited a lot of EarthCache and learnt a lot more about what makes up Tasmania. We gathered the information on Chaotic Rocks Fire, Water and Ice. TeamMerlin sent the answers in together after we got home and permission was given

Ok, if cache owner is happy with answers sent, this will be a first for JABs as the most earth caches done in one day. Oh and also logged. A road trip with Dr James took us as far north west as Woolnorth and two days to return home. Forgot how much I love these road trips and just spending time out and about. Often not doing Earth caches due to all the logging requirements and not saving the answers, so there fore by the time we get around to logging them those details are lost. There will be a time when logging will court up on.
JABs.

12:02 PM We are from Dallas, Texas, with our alumni travel group, the Traveling Aggies of Texas A&M University, on a cruise from Sydney to Auckland.

Day 5, so this is Burnie, Tasmania. What a cool location. I had been to a couple of enrichment lectures onboard, so I was somewhat familiar with the basic concept - and that the columns were often used as foundations of houses. Still, it is quite an impressive sight. My wife and I were with our group leader and I reduced her to geocaching.

I sent our answers and took a non-spoiler photo. Thanks, maccamob, for the cache. Adding a favorite point.

Wow! this was totally unexpected. And the way it has been incorporated into the urban landscape is amazing. This was a really great place to visit. Thanks for placing this earthcache here. A fave well deserved.

Tassie Trip Day 28 - After a night of rain we thought it was going to continue all day however we decided to venture out and see what we could see and if it rained well we got wet.

After arriving at the location we observed the required information and made the necessary note to send it to the CO and collect another great earth cache for the trip.

Thanks maccamob for this wonderful sight of rock formations and thanks for the information about the place.

Thanks for the earthcache maccamob, you don't expect to be logging an earthcache immediately adjacent to a car park, but there you go. Glad they have kept the exposed geology more of less intact. Visiting the northwest coast for the weekend with RLD4963. Info collected and answers have been submitted to CO.
