Dora the Explorer! and I have been paddling southward down the island and grabbing caches on the way.

I am not sure in the previous Found It logs are geniune.

There has been major tree clearing in the area and the timber piled up in heaps around the site. The are no trees near the structure. A search of the closest trees some distance away from the structure did not yield and caches.

Despite some caches stating that they have found this cache, I think it may be missing.

It was nice to have a break from paddling whilst trying to find the caches in this area.

Friday. I was really enjoying the walk to this cache. Past the little barrier and it looks like a construction area here! Who would have thought there was an observatory here on the island! This one should have been a quicker find than it was, but in line with how my day had started, this one was eluding me easily. I did spot it and then did a face palm slap with my doh! moment. As I got to the end of the very nice bitumen trail and a few bikes went past me on the part of the road designated for motorised vehicles. Container is still in good condition with quite a few names in the log now. Walked back past the thongs and wood and the barrier and on to the next cache. It was a nice walk to this spot – doesn’t take long to walk here at all.

This was the 3rd of 10 caches found on today's trip.

Thanks ***CouranCove***, for showing us this place. Smile

After leaving the blue gums, took the hoof along the surf beach road to the observatory. Not as picturesque as the name suggests but interesting enough to look over the observatory structure if you ignore the surrounds. After a good look, went back to where the GPS was pointing to for a quickish find.

Next time I'm boating need to spend more time in the area. Thanks for placing this interesting series CouranCove.

Haha pretty cache, shiny too! Came here on the bikes the day after finding the cache, still couldn't see any stars... Razz

This is the last on the list for our GeoTour. Paul, our very helpful 4wd driver kindly made it possible for us to retrieve this one easily. He really made his way to help us even made us observed the whales that were playing in the surf! What a bonus! Some were even waving at us.

TFTC CouranCove. All good with this cache.

Finally had the chance to come back with geo friends to complete this great Geo tour. This was the last one on the to do list for today and what excitement greeted us after finding this one. Our beaut 4WD driver Paul, suggested we have a look out at the ocean and within a couple of minutes we saw at least four whales, wow what a bargain to finish the day off on.
Anyway, it was a good hide here well away from muggles that may visit this Observatory, thanks for the placement and TFTC CouranCove.

I've been eyeing up the GeoTour on this island since it was first published. Having negotiated dates, times, work and exams, I decided to bring Jess over for a few nights, after she'd finished her exams and before the school holiday rush.

Today a couple of other geocachers joined us and we'd booked a 4wd GeoTour adventure. We had the super helpful, super friendly Paul as our GeoTour Guide, and couldn't have asked for a better chauffeur! There were the northern caches from the GeoTour to be found plus a few others we wanted to fish out... and lucky for us, today Paul was able to be flexible with the dropping off and picking up and he even helped us find a couple of the caches.

Our Tour Guide was informative and interesting, I learned about the history and the sand mining of the area, about a few birds around, albino wallabies, and he even pointed out some whales in the ocean which were migrating. OMG how cool is that! I think Paul organised that especially for us. Thanks!

What a fascinating spot, it's a shame there is no longer a telescope here as it would be pretty neat to have a peek at the sky from out here. Still, there's plenty of pretty things to see and after walking and walking then walking some more it wasn't all that far from here that we were able to spot a small pod of whales making their way north. What an unexpected thrill!
So close to shore we were slightly concerned for their safety, but they seemed to continue on their way without any drama. Thanks for the cache and GeoTour, CouranCove! [:-)]

We arrived at Couran Cove, moored up the geo-jet and walked the platforms up to reception to sign in for the day. We were given the map of all the facilities, hmmm conundrum do we search for a few caches or to we have a cocktail at the pool? To early for cocktails, not really the bar is open and a fruity one would be passable, but no we ventured towards the caches discussing which restaurant we would be having lunch at.

Our original plan was to walk straight out to the furthest cache and pick them up on the walk back in, that was until we saw the train that could bring us back, the plan quickly changed to lets find them all on our way out and hitch a ride back in.

The paths through here as amazing and the number of bikes to hire is outstanding, but we have committed to walking and training them now. We ventured off the path and dodged the tractor moving the mulch and saw clearly why this cache has it’s name. Straight away we went in and searched before reading that we should be looking somewhere else. Standing back we screwed up our eyes to aid our search and soon had the cache and the code word.

A nice little day trip over to Couran Cove with my Mum. She is reading by the pool while I get some time to explore and do a little bit of hunting.

I pedaled my hire bike along the path to the beach and ducked back along the little bit of road to this one.

I spent way too long looking for this one. Totally focused on the hint I did three laps of the tree and found nothing. I was thinking the camo must be pretty bloody good. Razz

Lap four and I stepped on something hard that I had missed previously. It was a bright green shiny cache. Red Face

Found while on a day out with dahumbug and monkey maker to see if we could find the Geo Tour caches. To start with we had a little trouble finding it, but when we did we couldn’t believe how obvious it was.

Wow, check out the fire wood out here, looks like a great spot for a bonfire.
All three of us started searching as soon as we arrived but we couldn't see it. Myself and bug gave up thinking it was gone so we checked out the structure only to find out coolumroo had found it. What heck, how did we not see that, I was standing right next to it.
Thanx again Couran Cove, the camo works a treat here

**Found using the hint...can't go wrong**

Out and about with monkey maker and CoolumRoo having a go at the caches on South Straddy. We started at the top end and made our way south to Couran Cove.
We were a little unsure how we would fare at these GeoTour caches but we had a clean sweep of all the caches to be First To GeoTour getting our names in all the CouranCove caches. All the secret word/phrases were noted on our passbooks and our SouthStraddy Geocoin applications are in the mail.
We had a "Perfect Day" caching out on the water today.
If anyone wants to know anything else about our shenanigans, I can't tell because,
"What happens on tour, stays on tour".
**End of Copy and Paste Section**

What an interesting contraption made out of fibreglass. Monkeymaker and I played around spinning the top while CoolumRoo made the find.

Cheers CouranCove

South Straddie Tipplers Trek - 2 days of paddling and caching fun with JaffaJ, Carlos the Jackal and geohubby Rob Smile

Our next GeoTour cache and it didn't take us long to find ourselves at the Observatory. It's a shame it's no longer in use, there certainly isn't much light pollution over here so there would be a great view of the stars. The dunes are creeping closer to the area, I wonder how long it will take before the Observatory is completely covered with sand. The hint was very helpful in finding the cache and we soon had the log signed. TFTC CouranCove Big Grin

Out with Snickersallan, JACS Team and E(: for a FTF Hunt and a Geo Tour.
This was to be our last for the day but unfortunately we didn't find this one here.
Quite possibly muggled as there are not many places to hide a cache this size in here.
Interesting location anyway.
Managed to catch the train back to the resort which saved us another 30mins walking on this hot day.
Loved the adventure.

19-Dec-17
Looked everywhere where a regular size should be according to the hint. Nothing at all.

We met the train driver prior to looking for this one. He was so nice he waited for us (and gave us cold water too - so refreshing). We would have been stuck for 2 hours had he went ahead.

19 December 2017 gave up 1:38 pm

Thanks for taking us CouranCove. We thoroughly enjoyed the day. We will be back

19-Dec-17
Unfortunately our group couldn't find this last one of the day for us. Going by the hint and size I think this has most probably been muggled and my suggestion would be to place a micro inside the black lip that wouldn't be obvious to anyone going inside the Observatory just for a look.
Thanks CouranCove for placing a cache here.

Sorry there was absolutely nothing inside today as per the clue! Kids might have taken it if they came to explore as there is no where for a cache of that size to hide.
