Well this one of our first stops on the way to the Mount K Summit from Thredbo. Just a terrific viewpoint of the tarn (glacial lake) that used to be on the main trail to the summit. Thanks for the informative virtual.

We hiked up Kosciuszko from Thredbo and found this one along the way. It almost reminds me of the Lake District back home in the UK. TFTC

Day 4 - Adelaide to GC9PNFB - Capital GeoBash Mega - Canberra ACTWe couldnt have asked for better weather to explore up here today. The sun was shining, the breeze was cool and gentle and the sky didnt have a cloud in it. The walk was very relaxing while enjoying the tiny flowers, grasses and fish in the small pools of water along side the track. A magical day.TFTC teamMerlinKeep smiling

On a road trip to attend Capital Geobash Mega and see many different sights along the way. Today we were heading to Mt Kosciuszko to attend an event and cache with 2beez. We have been here before but that was pre caching. This is such a beautiful area and great to see it different times of the year. Thanks teamMerlin for creating for us all to enjoy. Answers on their way very soon. Resting tonight! A FP for this stunning location. ...................................................Are you ready to nominate in the **2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards**? Another great EC with visibility that makes it possible!! Ramsheads in particular have been on my radar for a few years and now the planet spontaneity rose to the occasion and here I am after heading cross country and then on to the hut and this location .... Its an awesome bluebird day with a moderately cool wind to finally make a perfect wander up from Dead Horse Gap. Apart from a few bushwalks in variable weather, other memorable times include ski tours in pre-cache days. Thanks for the info and the "lesson" A FAVE for a top location and a not often covered topic!

Four years ago, a Bromance team adventure to hike Australia's highest 10 peaks was cancelled after bushfires devastated the Snowy Mountains (and indeed most of the Eastern seaboard). It has taken us a long time to return - too long. With months of training and preparation completed, the time had finally come!Yesterday, we hiked in from Charlotte's Pass, crossing the Snowy River, visiting Blue Lake and then "bagging" the first four peaks of our Aussie bakers dozen of Australia's Highest mountains, being Mt Twynam, Tennyson Woods Knoll (Watson's Crag), Carruthers Peak and Mt Northcote. Last night, we camped on the exposed flat near Mueller's Pass, enjoying a glorious alpine sunset. It was a big day yesterday (some 22.0 kms with all the side tracks and caches collected with 1050 m ascent), but I never seem to sleep well on the first night on the trail. Our Queensland blood also felt the cold, but we were well prepared for this. With a very big day planned today, we had a pre-dawn wake up call and set off at first light from Mueller's Pass with our daypacks for a loop around the next 5 mountains on the list. SeffnJarah and I climbed Mueller's Peak (bagging peak no 5) for the sunrise, before joining up with the rest of the team at approach to Alice Rawson Peak (peak no 6). From there, we headed back along the ridge line to Mt Townsend (peak no 7), where we encountered some brilliant granite tors. After Mt Townsend, it was a short walk to Abbotts Peak (No Cooland then onto Mt Dufour (No 9), before returning to our camp site at Mueller's Pass for a rest.Once the crew were all fed, watered and packed up, our full overnight packs were donned and we climbed up the main range ridge, dropping our heavy overnight packs at the track junction before climbing to the top of Australia and claiming peak number 10 on the list. The biggest one. Mt Kosciuszko. After the summit celebrations and photos and even an event to mark the occasion, we headed down the track to Rawson's Pass and Australia's Highest Toilet. After a rest here, we ventured up the hill behind the toilet to bag our 11th peak - the the unnamed peak on Etheridge RidgeFrom here, it was a pleasant walk down the steel boardwalk to this earthcache where clues were collected and photos snapped. From there, we hiked down to our camp near Aries Tor for the night before climbing Rams Head North in the dying daylight. The next day we visited our final and 13th peak on the list, Rams Head, before dropping into the valley to check out Cootapatamba Hut. From here, it is was a steady climb back up the valley past this lake, to Rawson's Pass. This was a bucket list trip for me, and today was fantastic day out in the mountains - one that will live in my memory for a long time! Answers sent. Thanks for bringing me here, teamMerlin.Pete#7,657

Just after Christmas in 2019 The Bromance were scheduled to complete a 3 day hike to visit the top 10 peaks in Kosciuszko National Park. At that stage I was already in Canberra visiting relatives and about to head off to Sydney to pick up my three compatriots from the airport when word came of the bush fires erupting in the Snowy Mountains. It was not long after that the dreaded news was announced that the park had been closed, ending any hopes of completing our walk. Dejectedly we made our way back home to Queensland. Thanks to Covid, border closures, injuries and operations it has taken another 4 years for the opportunity to arise to reprise our plans. After what has seemed an eternity, I finally left Brisbane Wednesday lunchtime for the long drive down to Canberra, and reached just north of Wollongong before finding a suitable place to stop and sleep in my car overnight. Next morning I was up before sunrise to visit some local caches before continuing the remainder of the drive to Canberra airport to rendezvous with the rest of my hiking group. From there we drove to Cooma to stay overnight before heading off Friday morning to Charlotte Pass to commence our long awaited hike.As we assembled in the car park I had to pinch myself to make sure we were actually finally here. The weather gods were indeed smiling on us with sunny skies and low winds but the fly gods were perhaps too generous, with swarms of flies accompany our journey and settling on us as we hiked up to the lake (possible making our packs a kg heavier ). Our pace of progress amongst the group was varied but finally we gathered at the start of the path for the walk down to the lake. After a visit to the lookout we continued along the path to the top of the rise where we took in the breath taking views of the valleys and hills below. This was probably my favourite viewpoint of the trip, although there are certainly many contenders for that honour. We dropped our main packs a short distance away, for the foray to our first designated peak of the day - Mt Twynam. From here the next designated peak was the summit of Tenison Woods Knoll, with a resupply of water gathered on the lower slopes. Retracing our steps, we found our packs again and braced ourselves for the long, steep climb up to our next summit - Mt Carruthers. It was quite a relief to make it to the top, knowing that the hardest climbing of the day was now done. Next was a climb up to Mount Northcote before a final hike to our overnight camp site at Muellers Pass. This morning we were up before sunrise. Crookedpete and I headed up to Muellers Peak before re-joining the rest of the group at the summit of Alice Rawson Peak for a well earned rest. It was then a quick procession (quick being a relative term rather than literal) to our next 3 next designated summits - Mt Townsend, Abbot Peak and Mount Du Faur before the long climb back up to our campsite to pack up tents and re-sling our heavy packs for the march toward Mt Kosciuszko.Joining the crowds on the summit, we finally celebrated reaching the highest point in Australia. With celebrations complete there was no time to rest on our laurels, with three more peaks on our to-do list. Back down the summit track we headed and I made a bee line to Australia's highest toilets, to alleviate a need to use the facilities that had been brewing all morning. Feeling all the lighter (and not just because we ditched our packs for a spell), I joined the remaining members of the group as we made the climb to the summit of Etheridge Ridge to reach the 11th summit on our to-do list. Sadly two of our team members had decided to head back to the cars at this point, with JezNDez sporting a matching pair of rolled ankles and had to hobble her way out. With 2 remaining peaks to find, we headed off along the steel walkway on our way to Rams Head, passing by this cache en-route. Another wonderful view on offer here. TFTC

GEOJoh and I took time out of our Australias Highest 15 Peak Hike having a greater look at the glacial lake formation with the backdrop of snow drift, our highest peak and the Victorian Alps. Found by The Empire + HBoarding the chairlift, we ascended with the landscape unfolding beneath usthe alpine meadows, meandering trails, and the vibrant Thredbo River cutting through the valley. The ride offered a bird's-eye view of the picturesque surroundings, providing a preview of the terrain we were about to traverse. The air at this altitude carried a crispness, and the panoramic views were already captivating, setting the stage for the alpine adventure ahead. The decision to take the chairlift not only facilitated our ascent but also added an element of anticipation as we transitioned seamlessly from the alpine heights to the starting point of the Kosciuszko Summit Walk. The juxtaposition of a leisurely chairlift ride against the backdrop of rugged mountain terrain created a harmonious balance between accessibility and adventure. The unique charm of Lake Cootapatamba lies not only in its glacial origin but also in its secluded location within the folds of the high country. The lake, cradled by the undulating landscape, became a haven where the natural beauty of the Snowy Mountains unfolded in its purest form. Thanks for the earthcache teamMerlin, favourite point added!-MEarthcache #421

Spectacular weather, with clear blue skies, and little, or no wind meant for a perfect, two days of walking in the snowy Mountains.
We climbed a variety of peaks, walked to a couple of lakes, and generally had a wonderful time.
We visited Lake Cootapatamba early in the day, and by the afternoon, when we walked right down to the lake, it had changed colour from a green/grey to a brilliant blue in the afternoon sunlight. The difference in the colour of the water was remarkable.
We have sent our answers to the CO and say a big thank you to teamMerlin for highlighting Australia’s highest glacial lake.

Out with BackPAQer, and others from Jindy event who were a bit behind us. Made it up to the top of Mt Kosciuszko - it was super windy (the people at the chairlift said it was +80 km/hr and increasing). I t was clouded out at the top too.

Stopped for a short break - long enough to take photo's and discuss the answers for the Earthcache.

Thanks for the hide.

Found with Leg5 as part of the expeditionary force over the weekend. Answers sent to CO and while I used google heavily for answers 2&3 and then sending before I noticed a further hint - following that hint leads me to believe I've answered correctly (I hope). So logging this in anticipation of the thumb pointing in the right direction. It's a great neck of the woods!

Two EarthCaches in one mountain, excellent! I've always really liked EarthCaches. They always fulfil that geocaching tenet of taking (and telling) you something interesting.

I failed to open the description on the way up (so much for offline lists...), but did take a reasonably nice photo of the lake. I was more successful on the way down, but now the lake and surrounds were invisible through the clouds. So I returned to Thredbo and waited until the trip was over to do the logging requirements. Thanks to the CO's suggestion, questions 2 and 3 were easy. But question 1 made me think a bit. I spent a while comparing my photo to the list of moraine types and looking for other lakes with moraines to compare with. In the end I settled on the right answer and here we are.

Sadly, as I didn't read the description properly on location I didn't get a photo of my GPS at this spot. However, I did get a photo of the lake and I did have a great time.

Day two of the Geocaching NSW Kosciuszko Expedition 2023.

With the winds picking up on Sunday, we decided today would be the day to go to Australia's highest "mountain".  Starting at Charlotte's Pass on a rented e-bike I didn't break any sweat in the half hour it took us to reach the hut.

The Saturday was a nicer day than the forecast for Sunday so FUF009, Swampgecko and I decided to do the walk to Mt Kosciuszko from the top of the chair lift. It was a windy walk up, but otherwise lovely weather. A very flash path and well used today.

A lovely view across to the lake, but we were not tempted to do the walk down to it.
A bit of snow still lingering around the peaks, but not a lot.
Answers are on their way.
Thanks, Robmc.

This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 12221.

After yesterdays activities I hadn’t planned much today and didn’t get moving till after 10. I was worried that there would be flies everywhere up here but luckily it was lovely. A nice chairlift ride and then off into the walk. After 40 minutes I was at the lookout and quickly gathered the required details. The CO has confirmed our answers.

Thanks teamMerlin for the cache.

Wow, what a lake! Highest in Australia, super super cool. We stopped here for snacks and water as we pushed on to the summit. A beautiful place for a museli bar Very Happy. It makes me want to explore the valley, not just the summit.

We were climbing Mt K for my 40th, and this was definitely a highlight.

My daughter and I spent a night at Thredbo on the way home from Mollymook. We had the opportunity to visit Mt Kozzie and find a couple of caches along the way. This is my second visit here, the last time we walked the loop, 33kms with a side trip to Mt Twynham.

We had great weather to hike to Mt Kosciuszko, and this was a really special place to visit and learn more about this incredible glacial feature, thanks to your Earth cache. It's a shame the sign board is missing to alert people to the significance of the Lake, but hopefully it might be replaced as there seems to be a lot of work going on with the raised walkway. Thanks so much for the Earthcache information so that we were able to enjoy and understand our surroundings a bit more.

Spent the better part of the day on top of the mountain after taking the chairlift up from Thredbo and visiting the various peaks. The journey to the top was accompanied by numerous muggles doing their Australia Day visitations and the weather was perfect. There were moments when the weather looked like it was about to get nasty but quickly turned around and the sun was shining again.
We made it off the mountain and back to Thredbo just in time for the chairlifts to shut down due to storm activity.
Thanks for the cache.

Find #5020

Great to have the opportunity to be out and about caching again, making the most of grabbing a few here and there as I go about my daily activities.

Staying at nearby CP for a week doing some MTB and bushwalking. Came across this beautiful lake in my travels. Info hard to come by as no signage. The new walkway is still being developed so maybe they’ll put new signage up at some point.

Thanks to teamMerlin for putting out and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment!

For a reason too difficult to explain we headed back up to Mt Kosciuszko for the second time this week, this time via the chairlift and the raised walkway. As M and his companion continued up toward Rawson's Pass, I paused to collect the information required for this earthcache. We don't have a GPS so I took a photo of my fancy Garmin watch displaying the altitude at GZ although the accuracy is suspect.

Today me and Nighthawk238 decided to do some caching in the snowy mountains, with our goal being to start at Charlottes Pass, walk to rawsons pass, earth cache at Lake Cootapatamba, then collect caches on rams head, the mutli at the top of Mount Kosciusko, the cache on Mount Townsend (possibly the earth cache as well but I'm no geologist) and then back to Charlottes Pass via the main range. There was a Ultra Marathon today on the mountain, 25km (one loop) and 50km (2 loops) and we thought that the 600 runners had Rocks in their heads. Turns out our quest to find all those caches meant we also had rocks in our heads, mainly real heavy ones. Turns out our loop and subsequent detours ended in a brutal 38km hike, starting at 8.45am and returning back to the car at 8.30pm. The apprentice cacher Nighthawk238 struggled to maintain his sanity throughout the day and getting back to the car was something both of us were looking foreword too.
Lake Cootapatamba was full of tourists but the view was still amazing.

Nice scene! Tricky first question

We stopped here on our way back from the summit. My goodness it was busy today with multiple school groups and individuals. It’s about the 6th time we have done this walk, the first being in the 1980s with our two young sons and no mesh walkway. It was then a much slower trek on winding gravel tracks through the alpine plants. It could not have handled today’s crowds and it became quite environmentally damaging. A new mesh track is presently being installed west of the hill on which the lookout is located.
I even drove to the top of “Kozzie” in late 1960s and there was not another soul up there. Thredbo in summer is a favourite spot. Answers to follow soon, now we are home catching up with things including logging. TFTC teamMerlin. Found 3/3/21 1:25 pm. Cache 1903 for us.

Big day today! First rode my bike from Charlottes pass to Rawson pass, walked up Mt Kosciuzko for some great pics, then down and towards Thredbo. After a few hundred meters left the track and went off track up Ramshead north and then finished on Ramshead. Oh and then back up Mt Kosciuzko again for a CITO!

Another great idea for an Earthcache up here and a much apprichiated additional find over 2000m at that. We collected the information and moved on for one last cache up here before returning to Charlotts Pass

The hike:
DSD called to THE mointain (witht the CITO) and lots of people came. A great day out! What a nice hike/ride here today with perfect weather and all the familar faces. A big 26k effort from us (with some side trips, most of it on the bike) What a great feeling to suddently be at the highest point in Australia and to collect so many high altitude caches up here today. Big thank you to DSD for initiating this and for the cache owners up here (mainly day1976) for putting so many caches out in the area. I spend a few hours afterward to collect more caches in the area on the way home.

Thank you teamMerlin for putting this out here.

**This Cache:**

Another fantastic location for an EC! I enjoyed standing at the lookout and down onto the lake. Beautiful scenery and the only lake we visited up here so a special one it was! I would love to come back and take Main Range Track to see some more!

Answered the questions as best we could, before heading off to grab one more traditonal cache, before backtracking up to Rawsons Pass and down to Charlottes Pass to finish the day.

Thanks teamMerlin! Answers sent and pic attached

**Today:**

DARKSIDEDAN really has some great community initiative, and provides us with many opportunities to push people out of their comfort zone, set new personal challenges, and visit parts of Australia they may not otherwise! He decided to host a CITO event on top of Mount Kosciuszko, and the turn out to such an event in such a location was really impressive! I know I wouldn't have visited this location without his initiative!

What a great day it was too! Myself and Sui left at 6am from Canberra, with the Ute Tray packed with bikes and our backpacks plenty of food and water. We didn't run out of it either and ended up with plenty left over which was great as that is always one of my big worrys!

We started off a bit bumpy with meeting places etc, but it all turned out to be ok in the end and we headed up the track from Charlottes Pass. We only managed to ride the bikes for the first 3km, before it became a little too steep for us non-powered and non-regular bike riders. So had to push them up for the next 4km!

After climbing Kosciuszko, and then detouring for several kilometres to boost our finds over 2000m, we headed back down to the car. That 4km of bike pushing was BY FAR worth it when we absolutely sped down the mountain, cleaning up all 7km of track in only about 15 minutes excluding the quick stop at Seamans Hut! It was also absolutely exhilarating and the best fun I had all day! I want to come back just to do that again! Smile

Thanks to DSD for hosting the CITO, and for all the cache owners including day1976 for the incredible work of gaining permission to hide physical caches up here, without him today would have also not been possible! Well done to all attendees as well, with no accidents or problems it was a great day out!

Tankengine and I headed up to the Canberra Invasion happening today on top of Mt Kosciuszko. We used our ebikes to ride up to the Highest Dunny then walked the 2kms from there up to the summit. The bikes made it a quick easy ride up and DOWN. A little scary for my first downhill ride, but a little fun too. The walk was not steep and it was an amazing view from the top. We were lucky to have amazing weather and we would have loved to stay longer. I can't wait to come back again another time.

This cache: We (Tankengine, Fox In Jox, AngelG27 and TikvaNZ) came here for this cache and check out this special lake. It was a little tricky trying to get a photo with so many people around. Such a busy mountain!! Answers sent to the CO. Photo taken then off up to the summit. Tftc teamMerlin!!!

Found today with dty73 and lots of other Canberra cachers! We all attended a CITO at the top of Kosie, and made a small detour here along the way! A nice little lake. Answers sent. Thanks TMerlin!

Off we go for an over night geomission to Cooma, Jindabyne and a Mt. K climb. Top weekend of quality caching and socialising. I was part of team FATZS (Fox in Jox, AngelG27, TikvaNZ, ZQX, and me, specimenX) on signed logs to save space.

Up we go on our Mt. K geomission! Whilst Team FATZ went up on their bikes, I joined Joolay, isopeda, minnieK, fitzy_1965 and albida for the hike up. We set off from CP and made the hike along the Summit track, and so did hundreds of other people!. Absolutely amazing scenery around this immense place!

Made the find of this Earthcache with Joolay Smile Wow! What a beautiful place and the lake looked so clear and refreshing - I just wanted to take a dip in it as it was very warm on the mountain today! Interesting to learn how the landscape was formed. Answers forwarded to CO and photo attached Smile

Thanks for the hide, teamMerlin Cool Spectacular Earthcache so dropping a fave point!

Another great location, so much variety in the scenery to be found up here but also very interesting. I did enjoy the ease of this EC and answers sent. Thanks for highlighting this location teamMerlin, Fav point.

Trip log:
We had a plan, and it was to go to Kosciusko for an oldie and some high altitude caches, it was also to be my first visit, so I was keen. When GreyHams noticed an event was published up there this weekend the decision was made and after a lot of discussion over previous years the time had finally come to tick this one off...

Or so it should have been but my sprained ankle several days before we were to go, it was touch and go and I wasn't sure I could make the distance, but only one way to find out, with some contingency plans should they be needed.

With GreyHams it was an early start, and of course there were other Canberra cachers heading south for the weekend also, so we teamed up for a number in the morning with the newly formed 'Jindy Crew'. After a spot of Cooma caching it was out to 'The Gates' on Lake Eucumbene, a trek but a great way to pass the hot day in the cars aircon, and then the 'track' out to the cache, challenging and equally as amusing, it was a great drive in! A little caching around Buckenderra was nice scenery before meeting up with dty73 and Tankengine in Jindabyne for some more caching an event and a relaxed yummy dinner with our Canberra caching friends for the evening.

Arriving at Charlottes Pass early in the morning is the thing to do, and with so many others already there it was a busy carpark, needing to park about 1km down the road! After our warm up walk and lashings of sunscreen we started off, slow and steady and hoping the foot would make the distance. And it did! The prep was sound, the poles were my lifeline step after step and finally I got to attempt the summit.

Such a great walk, so much to see, yes, it looks all bare and rocky but its beautiful and the slow pace we set we saw all of it! So great with many other cachers up there to spend time with them too, and we spent much time walking along with them over the distance, so much conversation had the time pass quickly and enjoyably. Many thanks to GreyHams, it wasn't the main range loop walk we had planned but he got me to the summit and back! As broken as I was with that last limp to the car we still had the enthusiasm to plan the next trip.

Many thanks to the CO's for your caches, we only stopped at a few for various qualities but your cache led to a very enjoyable trip.

Cache 7118 on 24 Jan 2021.

Out on a caching mission with TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox, SpecimenX and ZQX to get some altitude this weekend! Very excited to walk up Mount Kosciusko- my first time, and excited to get out for my first overnight caching mission in a year. But of course there are plenty of interesting caches to get along the way, and a couple of events to drop in to! Just need to keep cool while we do it, with the first really hot weather forecast this weekend.

This cache: after parking the bikes at Rawson Pass, a few of us wandered down the hill slightly to admire this lake and gather the information needed for this earth cache. A great little geology lesson, especially for a newcomer to the mountain like me. Answers sent to the CO, photo attached, and FP awarded !

Thanks teamMerlin for the cache and the fun!

After walking from Charlottes Pass to Mt Kozzie for DSD's CITO decided to walk back to Thredbo and get the chairlift back down. The walk up was hard but had good company to make the time go by. The lake is looking great and there is no snow. The wind is keeping the flies away and also keeping us a bit cooler. Thanks teamMerlin for getting us to stop here again. Have sent answers.

Stopped to admire Lake Cootapatamba on the walk down. Answers collected and sent.

Thanks For The Earthcache!

We tried to complete this earthcache over a year ago but the snow made it hard to answer some of the questions. We returned today and collected the required information while taking a brief trailside pause.

#355 Wasn't expecting glaciers on my way to Mt Kosciuszko, was expecting some snow on the southern side of boulders, not to be.
Love caches that bring you somewhere interesting by mind and matter.
Beats most caches for creativity any day, better than a mint tin at a roadside stop.
Very interesting lake and thanks for the cache. Answers coming.

Thanks for making your Lake Cootapatamba earthcache.

It really gave us more insight to the Lake we have passed many times previously before commencing Geocaching in recent years.

Beautiful view

Team novo on a 5-day Alpine xmas camping & hiking trip to wind up the year/ decade. We did three legs all up; the first yesterday out along the north-eastern end of Main Range Track from Charlotte Pass to Mt Twynam via Carruthers Pk and Blue Lake (an outstanding day!), the second being today along the Main Range Track this time from the south via top of Thredbo chair out to Kosciuszko and (hopefully) Townsend, and then our third leg a bike ride out along the Machinery Spur and hopefully other trails out at Hotham Heights, after a day's drive from Jindabyne via the Alpine way tomoz. We were surprised to find it so busy in this area today as opposed to yesterday where we only saw a handful of other folks.

This was our first cache claimed for the day. The cirques really are spectacular, especially with the snow still laying about the peaks! A lot more patchy rocky scree sections than yesterday (with the exception of the Blue Lake area). We could just spot the hut down from the lake but I got a better view later in the day from a massive detour from the path up to Rams Head. Today was +40° across the state but a lovely mild sunny day up here with a light breeze on the exposed sections - absolutely fantastic conditions for exploring this part of the world. Turns out this spot was one of the better locations we experienced from the metal path today. TFTEC and views, teamMerlin. We dipped a bunch of our TBs as well as a few that we'd picked up recently from our event in Sweden.

We are really lucky Smile - This was a perfect day for a walk in the mountains including the one to the top! Sunny ️, no clouds ️, almost no wind Sometimes snow, but not too much and easy to cross Smile So we took the chairlift to the top and continued walking on the boardwalk, which gives the opportunity to look around and keep on walking Smile
The lake lookout was one spot, where we stopped for photos. - Thanks for the EC at this nice place!

First cache on our climb to the top of the mountain today. The kids were very grateful for the rest by this point.

TFTC! And up we went the tallest peak, up with its metallic path and its chairlift. Lovely walk up to this point and a lovely place to take pictures on our way to the peak... if it had not been for the clouds. Btw, loads of people up here! It seemed really busy! Loved the lake though. Thanks for hiding and maintaining teamMerlin!

I started the day early driving out from Jindabyne to be on the first chairlift of the day.
Walking up towards GZ I was just absolutely blown away from the beauty of this place, arriving at the viewing platform the view over the lake was amazing! Here I took heaps of pics and studied for my answer, after a few more minutes I could now see others on there way,I wanted to be first on top so I now continued my journey up beating the crowds.
I also stopped back here on my way back down for a good rest break.
Thanks teamMerlin for setting up this earthcache, this place is brilliant!

Well this was an area I have wanted to tick off my todo list for a few years now, for the caches and just that it's the top of Australia and this Mega trip was the time to do it.

Myself and the goose from gooseandegg were some of the first cachers to log a will attend on the event that was to become the Mega since we saw this as the perfect opportunity to do Kosciuszko and if the event didnt go Mega we had not made the trip from Tassie for nothing.

We drove down to Thredbo yesterday collecting a few old caches along the way and then in the dark we spec'd out the 'town' and in the end found somewhere open for food.

So this morning we were the second people on a chairlift in the hope of getting to the top as soon as we could, but by the time we had made our slow walk to the top we found a few groups already there, i'm sure of the "Over 100,000" people that visit we had only a small number but it was like everyman and his dog was at the trig when we wanted to take a picture Smile

We were lucky that less people we at the lookout over the lake with only one couple turning up as we were collecting what we needed but as we were on our way up we had not come across the hoards of people just yet.

A stunning location for a cache with views that reminded me tarns in England, lochs in Scotland and llyns in Wales, thanks for bringing me here

This day had been in the planning since the Clear Waters mega event was first announced. We booked ourselves into accommodation at Thredbo for two nights and all we could do was hope the weather played its part on the day. It did Cool
I was on the second chair to go up the lift with Stainless steel rat right on 9am and we spent nearly seven hours on the mountain, back in Thredbo at 4.15pm after a rewarding Kosciuszko Beer at the Eagles Nest. The sky was blue and out of the wind it was quite warm but the Cootapatamba Lookout was exposed and cool. We had plenty of layers so it wasn't an issue.
At the lookout we finally got to see Lake Cootapatamba and had many glimpses of it further up the track. We read the information and took notes for this cache before taking lots of photos, some even came out [:o)]
Thanks for this earthcache teamMerlin, without it this would have just been a nice view as we passed on our way to the summit.

I spent today walking and finding caches in the Thredbo and Mount Kosciusko areas. I was lucky again with the weather, which was just perfect for walking.

After taking the Kosciusko Express chairlift to the top of the hill, this was my first target cache as I walked to the summit. I loved the vistas from the lookout, and hardly anyone else about this early.

Thanks teamMerlin for an interesting earthcache in a fantastic area!
