The grave of the unknown farmer. Interesting the grave alone in the paddock with a view of Egmont on a clear day. A memorial to all those who have feed their families from this land.

With Gap (of Fap and Gap)…

Auckland Anniversary: We needed fair weather to smash out our big caching plans. We were hopeful that Taranaki would turn on some sunshine today and it did. In spite of one heavy downpour in the afternoon and the threat of thunder, we managed to stay dry and in the game.

We enjoyed working our way through the Smile GeoArt. Each of the puzzles was a test of logic and reasoning. We were able to solve many with surprising rapidity, while a handful needed some heavy duty problem solving. In the end, we had the trail sorted for this weekend's visit... The beginning of a big break from Smiling. We looked unsuccessfully for the lone grave, but found the cache instead. Thanks 2 Bulbars. TFTC.

I never saw the grave site, but did see the cache container lying on the floor in sight. After signing in I replaced it closer to the hinted item, T F T C 2 Bulbars.

Having moved down from Auckland at the start of the week, and settling into a new work routine and having a new team at work it's been quite a hectic week. So what better way to kick back and relax than embark on a 730km, 16 hour marathon Geocaching expedition to the Taranaki region. It was more about quality than quantity and I had a number of statty targets; a couple more TMGT tour caches, my final missing S39 degree minutes for the Challenge cache, a few Virtual caches, including the new fmz Monopoly one, couple of Earthcaches, and a couple more DT combos, and anything else that I passed, but without adding too much diversion onto my trip. 36 caches was the total and a pleasing selection of treats and more than doubled my current Taranaki finds total of 24 finds total. Thanks so much to all the COs for their caches, imagination and hard work and maintenance, much appreciated. When I eventually made it 'home' at 1045 PM I was ready for bed, and dashed my (foolish) plans of heading to Ohakune/National Park etc today, that will keep.

Ended up in New Plymouth today on a surprise impromptu boxing day road trip, and I couldn't have picked a better day for it. Was there for a few hours and them made my way back towards Wanganui and collected some caches along the way. This was one of them.

All good here, TFTC.

On a weekend trip to Taranaki with some of Team BOP. Always lots of fun on these trips targeting cache trails, solved puzzles and high favourites. Thanks to all the cache owners TFTC

06-Jun-21
Team BOP is back on the road this time heading to Taranaki with our sights set on some Labs, some geo-art & everything else in between

Our current incarnation includes Davidson Clan, NZFlossy, McJandals and myself and we’ve signed the cache logs as ‘Team BOP’ to save time and log space. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the journey as most caches have been found quickly & without fuss thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placements.

I appreciate there’s a stigma attached to cut’n’paste logs like these so I’ll try to provide cache specific notes retrospectively when I get home. We do genuinely respect the work put into these caches, particularly some of the puzzles, but with a numbers mission like this - the hides start to blur together unfortunately. So Cheers COs, TFTC and most importantly - thanks for bringing us here

06-Jun-21
TeamBOP are together again for the long weekend. Philip.Perry, McJandals,NZFlossy and myself are heading to New Plymouth and surrounding areas caching.

06-Jun-21
A plan was hatched recently to hit the Naki area this long weekend. Nice to get away and grab a lot of our solved puzzles and ALs plus others along the way. Signed logs Team BoP to save room on log sheets.

I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these caches. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

We thought that it was a lovely day to go for a wander around and find some caches that we'd worked out. So to find them we had to tackle weeds, blackberries, thistle weeds and long grasses. After that we thought we'd better go for a swim at East End to clean all the blood and prickles off us. TFTC

29-Jan-21
Stopped by to grab this today but dressed in shorts and a tee shirt wasn’t ideal as it poured down with rain, so I carried on and left it to find another day

27-Dec-20
Grabbing these caches as we intended to loop around back toward home and pick up another cache on the way.

This was a quick find at GZ, signed log and left as found. While we could see the tree we could not quite see the grave.

Thanks for the placement 2 Bulbars.

24-Nov-20
Had the day off work so headed up from Whanganui. Have been slowly solving these at home. The aim was to find as many of ours solved ones as we could. Solved 25. Found 23 today and 2 DNF. After the first few finds there was a definite pattern to the hides which helped. Some of the logs were wet but with care managed to sign all our finds. Thanks for an entertaining series that we still have some work to finish off.
Stopped for some traditional caches as well.

Teamed up with Cats&Dragons, for an overnight mission down the West Coast focusing in and around Hawera. It's been awhile since we've done a trip like this and it was great to be out finding caches again. We left Hamilton at 7pm Friday night and returned midnight Saturday, with only a few hours of sleep needed we managed 116 finds for the trip. A big thanks to all the cache owners for their placements.

Had a good look here but no luck for us today.

This one took some searching. Finally located the grave and then the cache was tagged. Cheers

Day 4- Tuesday 17 December. Hawera district today.
Running around the Hawera district today in Toby, while Zara rests up. Checked Manawapou viaduct and Nowells Lakes.

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

17-Dec-19
As also reported by other finders - the coordinates are a pretty sloppy 15m from the cache. Which is why I had trouble finding he grave - the coords take us to the wrong paddock! Did not climb the gate to look at the memorial.

Day four of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is Hawera - it's going to be a slow trip!!
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates Sad
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* Lots of cache maintenance!

***[======== NZ Mega 2020 ========](http://nzmega.com)***

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:

* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!

Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](https://coord.info/GC87777) - you won't want to miss it!

My gps pointed me to the side of the road on a grassy patch so needless to say I was a little lost with this cache. Luckily the hint was useful but the nearest few hint items didn't yield any cache and I didn't see the grave so I re-read the description to gather some clues as to where I should be looking for the grave.

After a quick search I found the paddock with the grave and putting two and two together (hint + grave) I was able to find the well hidden cache. I found the co ords to be about 10m out.

Interesting spot, must be a story somewhere.

Up here for an awesome weekend jaunt with Team Gators, TheWanglers and Karma Reprint to do a loop of the mountain in 48 hours grabbing as many caches as we could while having a good laugh. Logs signed as some derivative of (KT)^2

Cheers 2 Bulbars for the cache

Time for the Smiley trail. We managed to solve them all before leaving home, but some were quite tricky to get an answer for. Parking was pretty good for most hides as well, a bonus. Cheers

Day one, New Plymouth airport to Hawera.

A long weekend cache raid to Taranaki. The weather didn't stop us doing anything, and we had fun times. Logs were signed with a combination of KT and 2 depending one which of did the signing. Thanks Kiwi Moose, Team Gaters and TheWanglers for a choice time.

Thanks to all CO's for placing and maintaining their caches. Cheers

A plan was hatched for a few of us to head to America for a Mad Mission. With life getting a bit crazy a downsized trip was organised as I had sorted childcare for the cachelets. The big America trip is now set for next year. We asked a member of our crew if we could go to Nelson, Dunedin, Auckland, Wellington, Hastings the answer all came back "I don't have many to find there". We left it to that member to suggest an area. He came up with New Plymouth and a loop around the mountain. That's a go from the rest of us. We sorted puzzles, gpxs, motels and a car and hit the ground running. The forecast was doom, gloom, rain, hail and lightning. Oh well, sounds exciting. We had very little of any of the weather that affected our caching and found we had all overpacked (thank God!).
Day 1: We grabbed the car and started caching at 2pm and made it to Hawera after 8pm settled into our accommodation and had a bit to eat and hit the town before calling it quits for the day.
Crazy, I wonder who it was?

Thanks for the cache 2 Bulbars.

A planned geocaching trip to the USA was shelved (but is all go for this time next year!) so we came up with a weekends Plan B. Taranaki with TheWanglers, KarmaReprint and KiwiMoose - logs signed (TK)^2 or a variation of. A really fun trip with the forecast rain and thunder seemingly always in the distance but never hindering us. A really fun weekend.
Arrived in New Plymouth; grabbed the rental and hit the road running - aiming for Hawera....
Woohoo - time to hit the Smile series. A fun set of puzzles ; from hard to easy. Brilliant parking for most too - appreciate the effort involved in creating and placing.
Wow.Nice trad here - thanks. Looked over and couldn't help but wonder - who...what...and why....Kinda sad...

This weekend adventure had been 2 months in the making. An off the cuff comment made at a geocahing event late last year led to the planning and execution of a weekend in the Taranaki including summiting Mount Taranaki. I had a great time roadtripping and climbing with Gr33nslime and TwigNZ. We only collected 50 caches in total but had an amazing experience and saw some very unique hides. We logged our finds as team GST.

45 of 50 for this trip
Having frantically solved these puzzles over the previous few nights we set about finding them. Some were much easier to solve than others, and some were much easier to find than others. We were thankful for reasonable parking at most places.

This was the weekend I was finally going to get to climb Mt Egmont, something I have wanted to do for a while now, even before I discovered Geocaching!

I was part of a great team of 3, the others being Stardust718 and Gr33nslime, so for most of our logging this weekend we simply signed ourselves as either "G.S.T" or "Team G.S.T" depending on size of log sheet.

We had had an elated day yesterday, getting to the summit and back again safely, albeit with muscles that now complained heartily. But now it was time for the long drive home again, and a chance to pick up a few more caches on the way. We decided to only concentrate on caches that either were directly on our route, or maybe had an high amount of FP's, or else an 'other' sized container.

This cache was one of those directly on our route, so therefore we treated it as a park and grab. It actually took a few minutes of searching before the cache was found as the co-ords are a few metres out but a wider search meant Gr33nslime eventually found it. We then spotted the tree, and the outline of a grave.

Thanks for another cache for our weekend trip.

10-Feb-19
# 1330 Yay, this weekend it was time for a roadie from the Hutt Valley up to Taranaki, with the prime mission being a summit of Mt Taranaki, and the secondary mission being 2bullbars smiley trail. There were a few other caches added for good measure too. Team GST as we named ourselves consisted of Gr33nslime, stardust718 and twigNZ. All up we found 51 caches and only two DNF so that is a pretty good hit rate. Sorry for the bulk log here. Thank you very much to all of the cache owners for placing and maintaining the caches that we had the pleasure of finding on this trip.

Spotted the cache then spotted the lone tree. I wonder if anyone visits her anymore?

Having been in taranaki for a week or so I was to call in for morning tea but it actually became lunch as we visited 4 other caches in there are. - and this was one of them and i saw the lonely grave in the middle of the paddock. Thank you for this cache and another smiley face on my way south .

Heading to Auckland via New Plymouth and find myself with another dot day to fill. Naturally I'm leaving the ones closer to home for rainy days (although I'm hoping I'll complete the calendar before then). I checked out the possibilitys before leaving home and found that D6NZ whom I often partner up with for caching trips had been out this way in that past and logged this cache, it therefore seemed a good one to target in his absence.

The find itself was no trouble, but the cows were very curious, I wont class them as muggles though Smile

16-Oct-18
No luck for me here... Couldn't even spot the grave.
Another day maybe

28-Aug-18
I decided to locate and sign off the solved Smiley caches today but before setting out I noticed there were another 5 to solve. So it was on with the thinking cap to solve them. 3 were relatively easy but on 1 I was a little stuck and on the other I was definitely stuck.

With a little perserverence and a small nudge in one direction they were eventually solved.

This trad got in the way and had to be signed off as well.

Cheers for the cache.

Didn't see the lone grave at first and when finally spotted cache was soon found.
Nice to meet fellow geocachers here

Quick trip away with woolwood9.
We soon had the cache found and log signed once I spotted the right area and the grave.
Car pulled up as we found the container. Good to see you again knees'n'things

26-Aug-18
There was a van at ground zero as we passed so we carried on a little farther until we could turn safely, then parked across from another couple of cachers that turned out to be Tmann and Woolwood. Thanks guys, you saved us from hunting in some dodgy looking growth.

Log sheet is a bit damp, but able to be signed. Thanks for the cache.

Finished up today in Hawera with half an hour of daylight to spare so I thought I'd grab a couple of caches.

Not having a good hit rate around here today. Didn't look due to neighbourly interest.

I have set myself a goal to get the requirements for the mystery cache The well-rounded cacher challenge (Manawatu) This requires me to get 25 badges 5 of which need to be gemstone badges. So each time I go out caching weather it is by myself or with fellow cacher I will try to get a least one cache that will get me closer to my goal

Out today grabbing some caches with the aim of getting enough caches to get the World Turtle souvenir and also getting some caches that will help with my main goal

This cache took me a little longer than it should have

Thanks for the cache

We decided today was a good day to knock off some more of those points needed in our planetary pursuit, especially since we had a number of already solved puzzle caches to pick up.
We pulled up just before GZ and proceeded to search numerous options where the arrow indicated but was having no luck. We couldn't even see the "lone grave". With a limited time frame today, we reluctantly decided to move on. But, as we pulled away, and passed the hedge we spotted the grave, so thought we'd have another quick go in the most likely place, knowing now where the grave was, and which we'd been reluctant to search well because of the blackberry, and this time the cache was found.
It does seem a rather random place for an isolated grave.
Thanks for showing us this spot and putting a cache here.

Up in the Taranaki area for work. Much like home really, but the weather rather on the hot side today. TFTC

14-Feb-18
Back in Taranaki for the second work trip of the year and I am out and about early to get a wee bit of caching in before I officially have to click on for work. Pulled up near the gz and had to wait on a “phone call” for the local farmers to move out of sight. Couldn’t get a good look of the grave as it was surrounded by a herd of cows who became extremely interested in my activities and tried to blow my stealthiness and cover by bellowing as if to attract attention. Luckily the cache was quickly found underfoot and I could return to the safety of my vehicle. TFTC

06-Feb-18
Well that's a bit different, wonder what the story is there. Searched all the hint items before seeing it sitting out in the open, sorry I completly forgot to search around to see if there was something to cover it up abit. Funnily enough today was about the 3rd time I have been down this road for geocaches and each time I do so there is someone biking down the road in lyrca, I always check to see if it's the CO. Tftc

28-Jan-18
Found after a short search. Caches like this are why I love this pastime, I have noticed the tree as I drive past but never what was under it, and any cache with a historic element gets me excited every time. I would love to know who the occupant was, I managed to fight the temptation to have a look at the headstone and instead thought I should respect the fact it is on private property. Thank you for bringing me here, and TFTC.

Juty Bug & I have been on a geocaching road trip to Whanganui principally to find geocaches he hasn’t found, and by default I probably haven’t found.
Heading home now and this is JB’s last unfound Taranaki geocaches, so it’s a must-do. Found after a short extended area search. Thought afterwards, I wished I’d been nosy and actually investigated the lone grave. A good day, TFTC
