I headed out for a Sunday afternoon stroll to my closest earth cache from home. What a cool area, Id not realised these formations were here or how they came about. It was quite warm so I kept an eye out for red bellys and browns but only saw birds and Roos. Answers emailed to the CO, thanks for the EC DSD, FP added. I also did the whereigo, but did not claim/climb. Happy international EC Day.

27-Aug-24
After achieving my goals for the day, I decided to go for a walk and find a couple of caches which were in a way linked to one another (see also GCAF54T).I had been to GZ before (way prior to this earthcache being placed), but did not realise that the rock formations here were volcanically formed - I assumed it was an action of the water over thousands of years that created the funky formations.TFTEC, Darksidedan

Muggle65 and l had to hang around till a Muggle family left. Kids were loving throwing pebbles into the water but thankfully they got bored after an eternity. Actually got to see some yakkers today. Thank you for a very fun cache

#4379 After claiming a surprise 1st to find on a cache very near by here I took a moment to grab a selfie at this spot for future use.Since then answers have been sent to the CO and I have been given consent to claim the find. Definitely an interesting area right in our own backyard. Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for preparing this EC for our enjoyment.

With a new Wherigo solved, not too far away we came with a group to this area.In the spring, the river and surrounding areas are truly spectacular, although the water level is not too high at the moment. The geology here is quite amazing, and we stop to look around together some information which we have sent to the CO to answer the questions for this one. Thanks Darksidedan Domsky

International Earthcache Day 2023! I had a number of ACT Earthcaches saved up for this day, but they are all out in the bush and hikes! This one is actually my easiest unfound! I was originally planning to do a hike, but all the EC hikes had plenty of other caches nearby them, which would of made it an entire day expedition & I didnt wake up early enough to plan for that! So settled for the easy option instead! Parked at the locked gate and followed the abandoned road to the empty carpark and then down to the river. A beautiful little spot where I was able to sit down on the rock and answer the questions. Looked for a way across the river afterwards to see if I could grab the caches on the other side of the bank which I had been putting off forever, but the water was flowing incredibly fast and I was alone so didnt risk it. Followed the track instead this time which led all the way back to the parking area, finishing a nice walking loop! Thanks DSD, answers were sent & approved and my photo at GZ is attached to this log

I dont wanna sound like some kinda geologiphile here but MY GOD these are some damn sexy rocks. You could cuddle these things all day theyre that smooth! This was definitely worth the drive and the stroll down from the carpark, along the Centenary Trail, to get along to ground zero. Saw plenty of roos along the way and GZ itself is super shady compared with much of the path en route. Plenty of rock hopping to be had as well, just remember these ones arent so grippy on the soles of your shoes!Answers sent to the CO and heres a pic of me next to one of the stunners. Thanks!

Found with shinydragon on a pleasant afternoon walk near Pine Island. Answers sent through messages.

Very interesting to learn about volcanos having been in the area! The rocks felt so nice, cold, and smooth to touch. The river flowing next to us was soothing. Found with the_proton who sent our answers through. TFTC

03-Jun-23
An interesting area. It looks like there may once have been some signs here, judging by the holes in the rocks. But sadly the signs are no more. A beautiful and peaceful spot today. We even managed to avoid the blackberries on the way in. TFTC

26-Sep-22
A pleasant two km return walk from the car park with Decrypter, following the track. Wildflowers blooming, especially wattle and grevillea. The river is high and flowing well. I sent our answers. TFTC DARKSIDEDAN.

26-Sep-22
Found with Goldenwattle. She sent our answers. TFTC.

18-Oct-21
Came by this one on our walk today, a very interesting spot, always a pleasure to learn about how rocks are formed. Fascinating colour vegetation has grown up a lot around the outcrop which almost made us miss it. TFTC

10-Oct-21
Found on International Earthcache Weekend! I needed a break from uni today so I used my 4hr of daily lockdown recreation to get some caches around Tuggeranong! It was a lovely walk from the car park, I often forget how nice it is at Pine Island. I was amazed to see the agglomerate at GZ. I definitely didn't think I'd find this, I thought an agglomerate was something else. Some of the coolest rock patterns I've ever seen! Answers sent, and attached are some photos incl. of some nasty looking water! TFTC DSD!

A plan was hatched to do a nice walk with the family (Dino, Pebbles and Wilma), I decided to come and do the nice trail and other caches along the Murrumbidgee. We walked along here 10 year ago but from the Kambah Pool side, this time we started at Pine Island. 3.5h and 10.5km later we had a big haul of caches and a great hike with lots of nice views a baby brown snake story and a few new scratches.

A noce side trip to marvel at this rock formation. Thank you DARKSIDEDAN. for putting the earth cache out.

Found this nice Cache together with Dino and Flintstones. Thank you for putting it out and maintaining it DARKSIDEDAN..

First cache and a fabulous spot. Answers sent to CO as requested.

Today is Earth Cache day, so doing one was the only real goal for the day. I joined a small group for the walk along the river to the area for this cache. Plenty of water, and compared to the arial images of the area, not much of the stone is currently visible. Still a very interesting area of the river where the rapids were running strongly. answers sent.

Thanks for the cache DARKSIDEDAN

What an adventure. Found it, and had a great time.

The robot clicked disapprovingly, gurgled briefly inside its cubical interior and extruded a pony glass of brownish liquid. "Sir, you will undoubtedly end up in a drunkard's grave, dead of hepatic cirrhosis," it informed me virtuously as it returned my ID card. I glared as I pushed the glass across the table.

He heard the loud impact before he ever saw the result. It had been so loud that it had actually made him jump back in his seat. As soon as he recovered from the surprise, he saw the crack in the windshield. It seemed to be an analogy of the current condition of his life.

She asked the question even though she didn't really want to hear the answer. It was a no-win situation since she already knew. If he told the truth, she'd get confirmation of her worst fears. If he lied, she'd know that he wasn't who she thought he was which would be almost as bad. Yet she asked the question anyway and waited for his answer.

Spending time at national parks can be an exciting adventure, but this wasn't the type of excitement she was hoping to experience. As she contemplated the situation she found herself in, she knew she'd gotten herself in a little more than she bargained for. It wasn't often that she found herself in a tree staring down at a pack of wolves that were looking to make her their next meal.

Walked here from the locked gate near the Pine Island playground. I wasn't too sure what to expect at GZ, and when arriving discovered it's very much a localised piece of unusual geology. Quite fascinating, and thoroughly worth the detour.

Answers sent to CO; this cache gets a favourite for showing me something really interesting that I had no idea was here. Cool - thanks DSD!

Visited this cache yesterday. After a short walk to gz I collected the answers then sat down and enjoyed this location. A nice simple earthcache that make it enjoyable to do. Thanks DSD for bringing me to this location and the short agglomerate lesson.

10-Oct-20
After teaming up with AngelG27 and a couple of the geochaps, TikvaNZ and ZQX to go for a 10km wander along the trail in Rob Roy nature reserve to nab several of the Flags of the World series, I targeted this Earthcache for Eachcache day!

Had to park at the parking area halfway along the road as the gate to the northern section was locked. So off I went for the 2km round trek as I still had JUST enough gas in the tank from the 10km hike this morning [:O)] The trek was worth it as I found learning about and studying the geology at GZ fascinating and it was so lovely and peaceful with the sound of the water flowing! Lots of flowers blooming as well in this beautiful spot!

Answers sent to CO and a couple of pics attached Smile

Thanks for the interesting EC, DSD! Cool

31-Aug-20
Did a nice walk along the MUrrumbidgy, picking up caches along the way and ending up at this earth cache as well. Still very clear signs everywhere of the recent flooding and I still think the water levels are higher then usual and so was the flow. Beautiful weather today and easy going in shorts and a t-shirt for once.

Answers sent to CO. The twins and I had great fun climbing over the closest 'blobs'. For some reason my phone wouldn't allow me to log. I don't use the app on the phone much, so that could be me. A delightful spot. A FP for the fun. Thanks DSD

Thanks for the earthcache Darksidedan. Visiting Canberra for work for a few days. Went for a wander along a section of the Centenary trail after work this evening to clear the cobwebs. This is a fascinating section of the river. Thanks for placing a cache here. A favourite from me, foot selfie attached.

19,154. Found on International Earthcache Weekend with minniek, DarzeeDi and jonasani during a beautiful spring day in Canberra.

With the other three heading off to do the CCT along this stretch of the river (which I've already done 4 years ago) my goal was this Earthcache. Very interesting area and fun to read up on its formation. I have sent off the answers to the CO on behalf of the 4 of us.

Thanks DSD !!

13-Oct-19
Today Darzee Di, Jonasani and I head off to do part of the CCT from Pine Island to Kambah Pool.

Fitzy_1965 came down for this one so that we could pick up the Earthcache Souvenir on offer this weekend.

With our answers sent off and approved, logging to say that it certainly was a fascinating area. Thanks DSD.

13-Oct-19
Jonasani and I met up with Fitzy_1965 and MinnieK at us and had a good look at the site, noting the area and as having a close look at the formations. Then MK and MJ and I went off to grab the centenary trail to Kambah pools. A nice start for the day, weather was great, chatting on the way and of course a few laughs....great company for a nice walk Smile Bonus souvenir today. tftc Darksidedan.

A Geocaching adventure was organised, and I decided to join the group for the walk, even though I had found most of the caches along this trail - I had not found quite all of them, and it is a nice walk. So, caching as "capital crunchers" (handy that someone had a stamp) we had a fun day walking along the trail and all over the place, with lots of laughs, and we found lots of caches ... A few smileys for me, and over 2 dozen visits.

TFTC - We gathered the answers together (sent in by Joolay), and all posed for group selfie.
Nice rocks, really nice rocks ... I like these rocks ... they rock ...

07-Sep-19
Such a perfect day to be out caching with friends along the beautiful Murrumbidgee! Thanks to the amazing Joolay for organising us all to tackle this trail. Caching as part of the Captial Crunchers: Gliss! Ayakem, Cosmonaut97, Lola1983, GeoGlors, Onieferret, sebass14, ZimbaW and Froggycache. So sorry for the repetitive logs - this one armed bandit didn’t do a great job at logging as we went... Answers sent by the team.. Thanks so much for the cache!!

07-Sep-19
Found with team capital crunches Smile joolay57 will send the group emIl Smile

07-Sep-19
The Capital Crunchers - led by Joolay, with ZimbaW, onieferret, GLISS!, Aykayem, sebass14, GeoGlors, Lola1983, Nibbletricecakes and Cosmonaut97 - took on the Canberra Centenary Trail between Kambah Pool and Pine Island. We covered more than 15km in six and a half hours to find 40 caches, picking up a few travelbugs and collecting at least 3 years of unloved in the process.

Joolay has sent the answers for our group to the CO, but have a photo.

This was find #33 on this exceptional day of caching. Out with Joolay (who organised this craziness :>), Aykayem, Froggycache, ZimbaW, Onieferret, GLISS!, sebass14, GeoGlors, Lola1983 and Nibbletricecakes. We signed the logs as Capital Crunchers and trekked from Kambah Pool to Pine Island. 15 kms in 6.38 hours. Nobody got 'seriously' broken (but a few of us had old niggles already :>) and I am pretty sure everyone had a good day. TFTC.

Out on a lovely spring walk with a group of 11 cachers. Joolay is submitting the answers on our behalf. Thanks DSD for an interesting erthcache that had me stop and pay more attention to the surroundings.

Joolay us sending our answers as part of the group Capital Crunchers. What a wonderful site to see. A lovely day to walk this part of the trail, even though it was cold and windy.
Thank you.

Hi DARKSIDEDAN, I'm logging this find to keep my finds in order.
Pic attached, and will send answers in a few days after I return to Tassie.
Found on an after work walk with my muggle mate whilst on a work trip to Canberra. Thanks for bringing me to this lovely river-side location.

17-May-18
Another beautiful day down this way. Interesting to see such different geology that appears to be localised. Answers to questions send to CO this afternoon.

Only time to do this short walk due to other commitments. Worth a favourite point for teaching us much about the local area and bringing to our attention interesting features that we would otherwise walk straight past. TFTEC DARKSIDEDAN.

A day out along the river. Sun, wind but no rain. Oh, and a few caches, 27 from 27. TNLNSL TFTC

A morning caching with ZQX. This was our sixth for the morning. An interesting place to visit. If only we could see a timelapse of the geological activity since the beginning of time. It would be very interesting. TFTC.

25-Apr-18
Answers emailed to CO.
After doing a nearby multi, TikvaNZ and I headed to Pine Island to attempt this earth cache. We had a good look around the listed coordinates, towards the river, and downstream, to get a solid understanding of the geological features. When I got home, I did a heap of research and learned a lot.
Thanks for drawing my attention to these interesting rocks, DSD.

Walked past here many times without realising its significance. Visited the spot with the missus and with a bit of research found out about the area. Most interesting and well worth the walk to. TFTC Darksidedan.

FTF #71 with Tankengine!

After success on the three wherigos this morning, we thought why not have a crack at the FTF on this one too. So off we headed down south, parking as close as possible. Following the maze of trails down to GZ, we soon had the answers in hand. Answers sent to CO by Tankengine. TFTE DARKSIDEDAN, a nice little area!

Chooo ooo [FTF] with Cankid after a marathon bike ride. Well, I certainly acquired my exercise goal today! It was approaching lunch time, and the day was warming up, but after 3 FTFs around Lake Burley Griffin, we decided one more couldn't hurt. Certainly I have been down here many times, but I must admit, I have never really noticed this geology up close. Lovely and now interesting area. Answers sent to CO, thanks for the cache DSD!
