Amanda is working for a while in KI and Ive come down to visit for a week. Doing our best to discover every cache on the island during our time. Grabbing the ones around Penneshaw before I head home this afternoon. Magic weather for it today. Took a bit of searching and going back to double check we had selected the right waypoint but got it in the end. Plenty of dolphins jumping around in the bay today. Thanks for bringing us here and TFTC.Definitely worth the terrain rating

We have arrived on Kangaroo Island for a 5 day break. We first had this trip planned several years back but that year KI had an extreme fire situation happen and we were offered a refund on our trip which we took. We have waited this long so that the island could regrow and show herself at her best. We have been using geocaching to guide us around and two days into our break we can certainly attest to her beauty. The caching has been interesting and we have many earth caches to write up and send to COs. All the caches we have found so far are in good condition. We did replace one log sheet. SL TFTC

Well after a whirl wind tour of Tasmania to help with 3 challenges that Im working on, I got back in late Tuesday night then packed the Geowagon and headed off to SA early Wednesday morning to attend the Leap Year Mega and to also tick off some LGAs along the way as well.Well after crossing the border the other day and staying in Millicent, Wellington, Cape Jervis and the Kingscote last night its now time to slowly head back towards Penneshaw to catch the ferry back to the mainland.Kangaroo Island has been on my bucket list for years and Roaming Howie had to squeeze back into the Geowagon put up with my driving and poor navigation for another day.Continuing along with our Geocaching expedition and visiting the Flinders Chase NP in the South West corner of the islandyesterday was one of the highlights of the Island. We will see what we can find on the slow trip back today and I didnt realise that the island so so big and I also didnt realise that Kangaroo Island was the first permanent settlement of South Australia even if it lasted only 4 years. We are just about back in Penneshaw to catch the ferry back to the mainland but there is always time for another one but sadly this is the last one for the island. What a great place to visit and as the say I will be back as we just ran out of time to see everything.Found somewhere to park the Geowagon and off we went for a walk along the beachWe soon found the domed shelter and then after a fair bit of searching we eventually found what was needed.I looked here first but dismissed it then came back again and soon located the cache. We added our names to the log and now it is time to check the Geowagon and I onto the ferry. Thanks weredunn4 TFTC.

So many plaques mentioning similar things. Posums eventually found the right one and we made our way to GZ where the find was quicker than the solve! Thanks Brad&Janet for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy. ----------------------------------------------------------The Ballarat GeoTour ends on 4 March 2024! It has taken three attempts at visiting Kangaroo Island via cruise ship. First time cancelled due to catastrophic hot weather second cancelled due to high winds and swell .. today was third time lucky so we were able to get a couple of caches. Thanks for this cache .. we ended up at ground zero and looked around at all the potential hiding places before spotting the hide .. truly one of natures gifts.. that's where I would hide it.. hang on.. what's that.. lol .. spot on coords.. a favourite point too .. Day 8 of my trip with barb2e to SA and our last day on Kangaroo Island. The weather has been less than kind to us, but it has been a more relaxed experience than our stay in Adelaide. The GZ was found and the log signed. Thanks for the interesting cache. Brad&Janet.

Wow - I certainly made this much, much harder than necessary I second guessed the possible answer, had a look as I passed by, no sign of a cache then went to find the proper answer had big trouble working out what was needed finally found what I thought was the correct answer (which reinforced my first guess) went back for another look, which was still unsuccessful back again & finally found what I needed. I really should take more care before charging off! This time I headed off to a new location and finally managed to get the cache. TFTC - an interesting spot - and even my failed attempt took me to another interesting location (albeit with a sad history).

On a cruise out of Melbourne to Kangaroo Island and Adelaide and today was the KI stop. With the rough seas we were lucky to get ashore, however all turned out well and we spent a good day wondering around the Penneshaw. First stop was for a couple of caches, including this one. The required info was found without issue and then it was off to GZ. Took a couple of minutes in among the rocks, however patience paid off and the cache was soon in hand. Log was signed, cache returned and it was time for one more before the sightseeing started. Thanks Brad&Janet...cool history. Cache all good.

What a delightful spot! Today is our last day on KI after a weeks holiday. I inadvertently left my pen at our hotel, so I sent a photo of the container to the CO. In hopes that they will accept that as a find.

This was meant to be my 5000th find but after frmen1 saw a huge black snake near gz, we only had a cursory look and hightailed it out of there. Those damn nope ropes are out, even in winter

On a cruise aboard the Grand Princess touring Australia. At this cache I am only 9298.1 miles from my home in Texas. I must say this is one of the best puzzle caches I have experienced and deserves a favorite point from me. I had an adventure of a lifetime. I looked high and low to no avail. Then I read the hint. Now that has a couple of meanings in Texas and then I remembered down under in Australia. Only I didn't realize I had to spelunking. I had almost given up when I spied the cave entrance and shortly I found the cache. Now I'm happier than a tick on a hound dog. We also got to explain about the Frenchman's rock to some of the tourists while we were sitting at the table there from the page we printed about the cache description. Thanks for bringing us here. We'll definitely have some tall tales to tell when we return home to Texas. Big GrinCoolBig Grin

Owl and Eagle are on the Grand Princess for a short trip to Melbourne. Their trip to Seal Bay was cancelled so they decided to explore Penneshaw instead, which had a surprisingly large number of things to do. This was an obvious place to visit and Owl found a plaque that met part of the the criteria, which was confusing until she found the other one. Then she wrote the numbers down incorrectly so a lot of time was wasted in the wriong spot (though it did have good views). Once she'd realised her mistake the rest was relatively easy.

20-Jan-23
This was a great idea for a field puzzle and once at GZ we soon spotted the cache. We saw some dolphins swimming on our way. Thanks for all the fun

19-Jan-23
My first find in KI while visiting from cruise ship Pacific Explorer. A great bit of history right there. Amazing to see a bit of 200 year old graffiti right there. Thanks. Cold and cloudy today but great views.

19-Jan-23
A quick visit off the P&O cruise ship today and why not grab a few of my first South Australian caches. Great history of the area and good to see it’s being preserved. TFTC

19-Jan-23
On Kangaroo Island for the day after being on the cruise ship Pacific Explorer for two days. Was nice to stretch the legs and grab a few caches. At gz here, I was surprised how many plaques there were. Eventually located the correct plaque and headed off to find the cache a short walk across the rocks. Michelle took a tumble on sharp rocks in her eagerness to find the cache before me. But she jumped up quickly, held back tears and spotted the prize. Nice cache, nice hide. TFTC

Penneshaw has always been a favourite base for fishing and holidays, so it was nice to spend some time back exploring the town. After refuelling at Fat Beagle, we headed to Frenchman’s Rock to find this cache. We had some fun jumping across rocks, thankful that we wore shoes this time.

07-Oct-22
Found towards the end of a family holiday on the island. Love the location. Both times we have been here we’ve seen dolphins swimming in the vicinity. TFTC!

27-Sep-22
Came to solve the puzzle on day one on the island but the wind was too much for geokids to be able to make the find.
Left early this morning for the ferry, and stopped in quickly to check we had the right co-ords and to find.
Geokids got distracted with the shells and rock pools so Hubby and I made the find nearby. We enjoyed navigating the terrain to get to GZ!

TFTC!

19-Sep-22
Arriving via the rocks made for a nice easy find. Thanks

05-Sep-22
Tricky little find but great fun.

14-Jul-22
Found on our holiday to KI. This was our last full day on the island so it was focussed on the eastern end. After doing the requisite research onsite it was a quick walk to the cache. On the way were were greeted by a pod of dolphins just off shore having a great time. All is well with the cache. TFTC Bran&Janet

Our fourth and final day on Kangaroo Island was again wet and cold (10ºC is cold to me), and so we drove to some interesting places with interesting looking caches. This was one that certainly was interesting - and historical. We didn’t have the correct level at first, but perseverance paid off.
The cache is in good shape.

Went on an adventure with the family. Once we worked out which coordinates were the right ones it was a quick skip across the rocks to find the cache.

27-Mar-22
This was the first cache I visited on arriving at the island on the 23rd. We had little time, as we needed to be at the Bnb by a specific time. I searched high and low, and like the previous finder, I found nothing cache like. We had to leave, I was most disappointed, I had high hopes for this to be my required daily mystery. A later conversation with the CO gave me enough info to know I had looked in the right place.

On the day of departure, I revisited this one and replaced the cache with permission of the CO, matching his description and location. Nice little hidey hole here.

Thanks for the cache and showing us the history of this location. A nice puzzle that will still take pride of place on my 366 day challenge, a few gaps left now to fill in next year as there are only two mystery caches on the island. FP4U

20-Mar-22
Checked each point and used the plaques to find the right point but still no luck.

30-Jan-22
Looked about, unable to locate it. This was our 1st time looking for any, so may just be us.

In all our travels we would not have even thought to travel to this location.

Visiting KI to maintain a cache that ended up being replaced by Liz and Bruce yesterday. But as the travel and accommodation was already was booked here we are with time to catch up on unfound caches on the island and to show my international nephew some of the sights.

This cache took quite a while because I was using my not so accurate shonky phone and there were quite a few hiding possibilities. And the phone signal had me going round in circles.

After 15 minutes of frustration but thinking that i couldn't be bothered to walk back to the car to get the GPS because I will find it in a moment... I phoned a friend that found it 2 days ago. But they had found so many on the island they could hardly remember it. They eventually recalled it but not sufficiently specific to be of help.

So we went trundling off to Cape Willoughby and then on the way back past I stopped and entered the coordinates into the GPS. And found the cache within a minute. The lesson is.... Use your GPS and not a shonky phone...
Thanks Brad and Janet for an interesting cache.

07-Nov-21
We were supposed to be on KI almost 2 years ago but the fires scuppered that and we turned around 500m from shore and that was that.
Roll on 20 months and the Covid pandemic and rather than being os as we usually would we find ourselves on an enforced SA road trip, not quite the same as Taiwan as planned .
But the great upside is we have had an amazing time firstly a week of walks and incredible scenery in Flinders Ranges and now a week on KI. Life is good, new LGA ticked off finally and more cache hunting to be done. .
Yay for a puzzle even I can solve! TFTC Brad&Janet

A week on the Island and this was our first target after alighting the ferry. The plaques found, read and understood we had the most likely GZ so a short drive, a little searching and the prize was found signed and replaced. Mr and Mrs Parrot took a trip overseas to Kangaroo island for the week.
We had a lovely time finding caches and interacting with the people selling produce and food to the public.
It fabulous to see the green starting to come back into the fire ravaged areas. We had hired a house in Kingscote and ventured out each day in a different direction to see the sights and what the island had t off.
We also picked up 60 odd caches along the way.
My thanks for the quick responses to the Geocaches and the virtual cache which we sorted out before logging.
It was good to be able to complete Wonders of the world and become an Ultimate Explorer during my stay.

Our very first find on KI I like the synergy of this with both of us stepping of a boat and arriving at this spot.

31-Jan-21
Found with Olga, our first cache stop after arriving this afternoon.
Stephen misread the instructions and went looking at each location for the plaque. We visited them all before I re-read the instructions.
After that I knew which waypoint the cache would be at, though we quickly found the correct plaque anyway.
It took us quite a while to locate the cache, but in the end the coordinates we're very accurate, we just didn't look from the correct angle.

Nomads travelling in their caravan around Australia. We have been on the road since July 2011 and discovered caching in August 2013. We travel with a bunch of travel bugs belonging to our sons and grand children. Where ever possible, we will maintain your cache as we travel.

We are here visiting, house and farm sitting for three months. There are only 89 caches on the island. Hope we get smilie faces on all of them.

Back in Penneshaw with our friends SnappyTomCats, chasing a few more smilies. Up or down. Depends on where you start. 2Johns found together, while the missusses waited, watching. Thanks Brad&janet for the history lesson and the hide.
