WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 82 - Geraldton Day 2. After a very wet night the rain eventually stopped and I headed out to try for breakfast and a few caches. The Network seems to have suffered from the rain and reception is very poor. Both shops I tried to buy breakfast from had no eftpos. Oh well, that means caching. I carefully read each page before heading there and so managed to find the caches I targeted today. A few further rain showers made some of the short walks a bit of a risk, but I managed and even completed another set of Labs. The afternoon was time to catch up on online tasks and dinner will be in the van tonight.I was a little concerned this might be another impossible cache, but there is so little to provide a hide here what could possibly go wring. Apart from going the wrong way at first from my GZ, I saw an item and was happy to get the cache. Again I needed a tool to get the log out, but the car was real close. Thanks for the cache zombiestompbexx48567.4 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & November 2024 Fenrislfr the Vnagandr A#537**Albida**
Grandma finds her 1st one. Almost gave up but then after a bit of poking around we had the cache in hand. Also found the previous cache which has been cut off!!!
Checked on this one and its been Muggled. Replacement made and waiting to be placed back there.
Do you know how many times I went straight past this one. I probably even touched it. A while later my partner said here it is.Thanks for the hide.
Great find! We attempted this one at night time only to come up empty handed but tried again in the day time and found it
Di Morgan was in town and I was able to join them for a mornings caching around the suburbs of Geraldton
We visited some scenic locations, some that I hadn't visited before even though we have spent a fair bit of time in the area over the last few years.
Some caches were found relatively quickly but some were not. This could have been quite tricky but I was lucky to have help to make it a quick find.
Thanks to all for placing these for us to find.

Heading north on a road trip with richlink enjoying the locations we visit and grabbing some caches along the way. We are spending a few days in Grealdton finding some caches. A fave point for this one, thanks zombiestompbexx.

Another day of geocaching in Geraldton. There were no different hiding places to find. Thanks to hints or spoiler pictures, most of them were very easy to find.
Thanks for the caches.

Day 15 of the road trip, and enjoying a few days in Gero after coming in from the dusty Goldfields. It was lovely to see the ocean again Pulled in yesterday and today was fairly quiet, I just had a handful of caches to find, mainly ones I had missed on previous visits. Seeing the CO maintenance log I figured I'd give this one another go. Again spent quite a while checking all along the fence at GZ, and other possible locations, but again was not seeing anything at all. It *had* to be here somewhere!! I had actually given up and got back in the car, when I suddenly remembered I had found the base where an old pole had been cut off in the grass under the fence on a previous visit. Maybe the cache was in there... I got out for another look... but couldn't find that hole again. Did another sweep very slowly using fingertips the whole way and to my complete surprise there was the cache. Completely not what - or where - I was expecting. I may have yelled out a celebratory word or two This type of placement is a tough one, and it was certainly very well hidden here! So very happy to put a smiley here. TFTC
Had about an hour to wait while in the area so what better way than look here again. Still nothing, extended my search and nothing. I think the CO needs to check on the well being of this little fellow and confirm it’s existence.
This was a DNF for me previously. It's been on my watch list so I knew it had been replaced. Saw the previous log but swung by here today anyway to have a look. Coords took me to an empty stretch of fence. Not sure if the new coords have been converted properly when the cache was replaced but had a good look around and nothing found.
Found the Bad Elk TB on the ground about 5cm from post. It’s not my day today because no cache found
When your coordinates need to be updated on a Published cache, **you need to use an Update Coordinates log.**
**DO NOT USE** the little pencil next to the coordinates on your listing.
This is a facility to put corrected coordinates in for **YOUR EYES ONLY**, such as the solution for the final coordinates of a mystery or multi cache. *Other people cannot see what you put in here.*
See [this Help Centre article](https://www.geocaching.com/help/index.php?pg=kb.chapter&id=38&pgid=61) for more detail on how to do it
[Here's a youtube video](https://youtu.be/bF-9-LI8RNs) which explains how to to update your cache coordinates in the correct manner.
Also,
DD.dddddddddd (Decimal degrees or DDG) eg. -37.94185 145.021433
This is the format commonly used in computing and things like Google Maps. Its fine as far as precision is concerned as long as you use at least 5 decimal places. This should give you a system capable of resolving down to about 1 metre which is a bit more than your device can measure usually. The problem with this format is that the string of numbers can be awkward to use without making mistakes, such as transcription errors. And then there's the +- NESW convention to remember.
DD MM.mmm (Degrees and Decimal Minutes or DDM) eg. S 37 56.511 E 145 01.286
This is the format we use for Geocaching and is the format you should use to measure your coordinates. The precision of the last digit is about 2 metres which is a good match between what our devices can measure, the resolution we need for Geocaching, and our human ability to manage numbers without making too many errors.
**You should set your GPS or Smartphone app to use this format**, and get used to using it consistently in all your Geocaching activities.

New coordinates as old telegraph pole has been removed.
Cache is still a micro. Could FTF in this instance (as I have attached a trackable) please place accordingly and dismiss my lack of understanding of the transition of ground zero.
Good luck!

###Cache Maintenance Visit Required please.###
This geocache has been brought to my attention as being in need of an Owner Maintenance visit, as the logs indicate that it is most likely missing, or else some other problem exists with the cache.
I agree that it certainly seems necessary to have it checked by the Cache Owner.
The cache owner needs to:
* Investigate the situation and either restore the cache, or address any other issues, such as correcting the D/T rating if necessary.
* Re-enable the cache by posting an Enable log
* Post an Owner Maintenance log to advise what has been done, and to clear any Needs Maintenance attribute which is present.
Otherwise :
* Post a Note Log to request more time if necessary, or provide other information..
**Do not use an Owner Maintenance log for this, that is for use only **when you actually do something to repair the cache**.
Alternatively:
* Archive the cache, and remove any remaining geo-litter from the site.
In the meantime, I've temporarily disabled the cache page to await owner action by zombiestompbexx and to take it off the playing board to prevent further geocaching community inconvenience.
[Please see the maintenance section of the Geocache Hiding Guidelines.](https://www.geocaching.com/play/guidelines?expand=1#cachemaintenance)
**I will check back in 30 days** to see that action has been by the CO.
If nothing has happened, I will assume that the cache has been abandoned and, unfortunately, I will need to Archive this cache.
*Caches archived because of lack of maintenance/abandonment will not be unarchived.*
The Geocaching Community needs to have a degree of certainty that a cache is there, and in good condition, waiting to be found, and the CO has a responsibility to maintain their caches.
Please see [my profile page](https://www.geocaching.com/p/default.aspx?u=Balayang) for additional information.
Thank you

Find 12 of 29 with fourteen DNFs on a day-long 30km bike ride around Geraldton with not a cloud in the sky. Many more DNFs than we would usually register, this is a tricky town! Thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining these caches.
So relieved to find an easy one after 3 DNFs! Thank you!

Outnabout collecting smilies. I have avoided this for a while thinking it was missing. Pleased to say it was an easy find. Thanks Zombiestompbexx.
Hi there zombiestompbexx.
We found your cache **"GOSSIP GIRL"** today. (This makes our find count 22839).
Today we headed out to grab some caches that would complete the latest "Streak" souvenir challenge, and were lucky enough to get a couple of prior DNF's as well. Afterwards we met up with Ian & Sue (Team Pathfinder) for coffee along the waterfront. We thoroughly enjoyed today's cache finds, the fresh air after the recent rain has made the air crisp and clean.
We found 5 caches today & DNF'd 1. Thanks for placing the cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our travels.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache around 9m from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** Cache needed some maintenance, so we made the repair and restored the cache.
**Took:** Nothing
**Left:** Nothing.
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny

In answer to your question:-
A sunburnt nun!
I'm allowed to say that because our much loved stepmother was a nun for over 20 years.
We almost made this a driveway, but only got away with it because the site has obviously closed down. We just hope it wasn't due to the newspaper being closed down, and that it was due to relocation.
This is our third visit to Geraldton from our home in Victoria, and it is just as lovely as we remembered. The weather has picked up a bit, so we decided that today would be a good opportunity for a stroll around the foreshore and the nearby areas. We love the fact that over the past 8 years there has been heaps of development in these areas, and there is so much to see and do. It must get very busy in the warmer months, there is a lot to attract a wide range of ages and different phases of life. Well done Geraldton!

We figure that there is no gossiping emanating from this site anymore.
Thanks.

Waiting for Mickeydv to run his race so I headed out to explore and find a few caches. Thanks.
I muggled the container into the great unknown but thankfully I had a tool in the geokit which hade it’s extraction and ultimate survival easy.
With the geowife having to be dropped off and picked up from hair and makeup appointments and this and that throughout the morning, it made some good time for caching.
A great morning for it not too hot, managed six finds and four DNFs. It was nice to cleanup a number of caches we had previously DNFd over the years.
A lot of micro caches around town, which were quickly found with minimal muggles around town during the early part of the day.
Thanks to the local COs for their caches.
