The Cockburn Crew are on tour at the Capital Geobash in Canberra - travelling from Perth to Sydney, Canberra, Sydney and finally back to Perth.Today was day 3 and we had an absolute blast, after an earlier night last night we got up early to head to Yass and the surrounding areas to cleanup a bunch of caches inparticular whereigos and our personal favourite the challenge caches. We stopped in Yass and completed some high quality caches before venturing back to the trails. We completed a huge number of trails, challenges, whereigos, traditional, multis, earthcaches, labs, virtuals and puzzles. It really was a great day for variety. We enjoyed caching in territory we havent been before. Weve filled our boots with some rare DTs and DTTs and generally had a great time. Thanks to the COs for a great day and event. Logs signed as part of team WA/WAC (WA Crew)
Part of the Sandgroper contingent that has come to the Mega to explore new hunting grounds. Its sure to be a great week with many finds and laughs with lots of great friends and maybe some new ones along the way. Thank you for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Logged as WA.
Out and about again, headed around Canberra for the MEGA. Super excited my first MEGA and heading over with 2 others from the Cockburn Crew - signed log as WA to save time. This is 14869, hoping to clock over the 15,000 finds in the week in New South Wales and ACT.Thanks to GreyHams for the caches we found.********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024 OZMEGA2024********** ********** ********** ********** ********** **********Head over to Australian Capital Territory for Capital GeoBash MEGA - Canberras first ever Mega Event. Easter 2024 (GC9PNFB): - 5 day event at Canberra Park adjacent to EPIC (Canberra Showgrounds) on the Federal Highway, only 6km from the centre of the city. The mascot for the Mega is Gangles the endemic Gang Gang Cockatoo, a bird you may see or hear while in Canberra. The official website - geobash.ozmega.com.auACT has over 4700 active caches, power trails, and over 100 Lab Adventures. Heaps of challenge caches, hikes for geocaches for all levels of skills and fitness.
After finishing up the mega event festivities I C Nothing and I were still up for a spot of caching so talked Lachlan1.77, Leg5 & Barnzy12 into joining us and we made our way back into the city in an attempt to get as many central caches as we could before the end of the weekend and a return to normal life beckons. On a quiet night in Canberra we combined between walking and driving to caches and by the time we returned to our accommodation had managed to collect a tidy sum of 21 finds and starting to rest before an early morning event to kick off Monday. Thanks GreyHams for placing Carillon for me and others to find.I added my name to the log on 31/3/2024.This is find number 8764 for me.
Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. Might have snuck onto the island under the cover of darkness. All logs have been signed as WA to save space, abbreviation for our team from Western Australia. Cheers GreyHams! Join us in Augusta, in Western Australias South West, for WA Goes Big 2024 (GCAGV8Y) on Friday 20 to Sunday 22 September. Log your will attend now!
Visited it during 28-days geotrip to Australia, N.Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Am.Samoa, Fr.Polynesia with Marci, Ch. Sometimes we logged as "MT" or "Jonea" or "MTCh". Thanks for showing nice caches and places. MT-Jonea from Brno city in Czechia EU. Closed
Out on a paddle and liked the soft root matting underfoot for this TFTC GreyHams!
Awkward spot especially with the waves, but we did it! Log was very full so we squeezed in our usernames at the top.

A trip to ACT with Chewinprickles - Day two on the deadly treadlies with Captain Tomato.
It started very chilly, but turned out a nice day for a ride.
Out on the island in the morning with minimal muggles was a good time to search for this cache.
A nice view across the lake.
Thanks, Robmc.

Sims_family and Dromaniax are on day Nine of a our 10 day trip to Queensland and back again towing a 12x8x7 foot trailer that is loaded to the hilt and weighs quite a bit. Fuel efficiency has gone out the window with the Ginja Ninja (My Orange Mitsubishi Triton) going through fuel faster than I have ever seen before.
Day nine we spent the whole time in Canberra with the trailer safely parked allowing some caching without it.
Mr Dromaniax is on a mission to collect 180 Virtual caches so with two Virtuals nearby it was a target area for us tonight.
So while here visiting the Carillon we had find the bonus of a couple of trads
Thank you GreyHams for the Cache and sorry for the late log I am still trying to catch up on logs from our big Journey

Today is the ninth day of the Sims_family/Dromaniax big road trip to Queensland and back again.
We are towing a very big trailer, which was chockers, but when you have a mission, someone else is paying for the fuel, and there is the opportunity for nine days of caching fresh fields, you jump at the chance.
We have a long list of target caches and hope to cross quite a few goals off the list on this trip.
We were heading back south now, and the Trailer was significantly lighter.
With the trailer shed for a day, we could quickly move around Canberra and park easily.
Nice quick find of cache in excellent condition.
Thank you for this Traditional cache GreyHams.

Tenth day of our trip and we have come to Canberra via the Rutherglen Mega, Sydney and Newcastle. First full day in Canberra and the main focus was Questacon. Then if time permitted, the plan was a few geocaches and then dinner.
We ate our dinner on the banks of Lake Burley Griffin listing to the tunes of The Carillion and watching the sun sink behind Black Mountain. Afterwards we strolled across the bridge to Aspen Isle to see the Carillion close up and we heard the tunes close up before they finished for the night.
Thanks for the cache Grey Hams

Out for an early evening stroll with Baristayan, and headed for the Carillon! I hate to confess this…but I’m not sure I’ve ever actually made my way over to this little gem of an island despite living here most my life.
I ventured in close to the water’s edge and found the cache quickly enough thanks to the clue. Great hide!

I Opportunistic find while visiting the Carillon (for only our second time). Interesting that this island has been renamed in honour of QEII now.
No issues with the terrain which was fortunately dry underfoot. Thanks GreyHams.

In the spirit of reconciliation we would like to acknowledge the Traditional Custodians of country on which we geocache throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We (the pants people) pay our respects to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.

Storm clouds rolling in but managed to find this quite quickly and get away before it rained! Found with B.E.k
The first of many caches for my birthday holiday in Canberra. This one is one the list because… for some reason it’s cool. It’s old, its a jasmer, it’s got heaps of favourite points, it’s got a view, but or it’s near something that does. Either way, I guarantee I had a great time grabbing it. Thanks for making my birthday awesome!

A day out and about in Canberra with oz_bean_counter and Captain Terror celebrating, laughing and having a LOT of fun. Picked a bunch of favs or olds as targets today and were not disappointed. This one was nearby a couple and was part of the fun.
Thanks GreyHams for entertaining me at this location.

We are travelling down from Sydney’s Northern Beaches to Canberra for a 6 day (5 night) holiday, staying in a park cabin at Alivio Tourist Park in O'Connor, and planning to explore the areas around Lake Burley Griffin, old & new Parliament House’s, the Australian War Memorial, Questacon, the Carillion, Black Mountain, Mount Ainslie, and areas around Canberra Airport and maybe out around the Kowen Forest if time permits. Have solved most of the CBR Wherigo Puzzle series and numerous other Mystery/Puzzle caches, so will hopefully get to some of those, and will do some of the Adventure Labs, Virtuals, and EarthCaches in the areas we visit. Photos will be uploaded to logs after our return to home base.
Today we drove up to Mount Ainslie for the views and the caches, then visited the grounds of the Australian War Memorial for some Adventure Labs and an EarthCache, and then down to the Carillion for yet more caches. Ended the day with a couple of quick finds just a short walk from our accommodation. This was the 23rd of 28 finds for the day (day 5), and 148th find of the holiday.
After grabbing the Traditional cache at the southern end of the island, we next headed to the northern end for this one, and made a nice quick find on arrival at GZ. TNLNSL, and then replaced as found. It's very windy out here today. TFTC GreyHams.

Found with alislaur. Water lapping a bit too high to follow the hint, but we got there quite fast! TFTC )
There's a podcast I listen to that is so difficult to explain. Two guys discussing ideas, and over 100 episodes later, the lore of the thing is complex and all non-sequitur now. But one of the running 'jokes' centres on carillons of the world. Oddly enough, I had beeen listening to the latest episode not long before heading to this geocache. And before scrolling the map, I didn't even know Canberra had a carillon! So this all made me smile before I even got there. Even if it makes minimal sense to anyone else.
I'm here on a work trip. This week I present a two-day workshop, but I've come a day early to explore and geocache as this is my first visit to the ACT. Now halfway through the afternoon, I have ridden a hire scooter across the lake and now wandering about this little island. It's a lovely time with the area almost to myself and views of the lake all around.
Deciding to walk the loop here around the north, I stop to admire some installation art in the water and see the electric tour boat float by. I did pass a muggle on a private scooter - the same model as mine back home (I rarely see the same as my own).
Getting near GZ I flip through the description and work out where I should be looking. I take a few cautious steps and make a quick find right at 15:00. It's all in good condition, so name signed and replaced as found. Onwards to continue wandering around this small island and seeing more of Canberra. Thanks for this geocache, GreyHams

Teamnanbombana, Membsec, Nyssaflutterby and I had this cache on our list for our visit to Canberra.
The rain may have ruined the views but it couldn't ruin our day.
We wandered around the island and eventually to this cache.

Spending a couple of days in and around ACT with 3 Queenslanders and 1 Tasmanian, then down to the coast for a few days! Weather not great so we have been trying to get caches that are not long walks so we can keep reasonable dry.
Quick find after doing the nearby virtual and signed as QTAS to keep the log dry. Interesting hide.
