It took us a while to find it because the Cactuses aren't there anymore. That being said, the marked location does lead you straight to it!
Found by Mary and David at 14:50. How this area has changed. No need to cross the creek these days. A quick find, and we even spotted some green cactus. Our thanks to Benjamin Screamer.
Out and about with My good caching mate Omegaman1971, there are always plenty of laughs while we are turning caches into smiles. This is one of the caches found today. Thanks Benjamin Screamer for the cache.
Omegaman1971Support Your Local Villain Live - Laugh - Lurk First To Find: 149Sidetracked Cache Finds: 115In the area with Rebel Acts for our last Geocaching day of the year and I was attempting to hit 2000 finds for the year and get my 13000 cache. This is one of the caches we successfully found today, Cheers for the cache.
Great way to start a day of geocaching. Unfortunately, the cactus plants have been killed.. aside from this you are still able to eventually figure out where cache is.
*Intervening Days 2023 Adventure #5*On my way to the Intervening Days event, but there's time for a few along the way.No cacti... which is a good thing. I'm glad someone's taken the time to remove a few of the introduced weeds from this very pretty area. Thanks heaps, Benjamin Screamer!
I had come over the Melton to join the crowd at the **Intervening days CITO 2023** and the **Intervening Days (Revisited) XV** that followed it. Afterwards I headed down the Melton South to chase out an old Multi as I needed one today for a challenge that I am working on. While I was in the area I decided to also chase out the three Trads on the other side of Toolern Creek... and, with all the recent rain, took the drier... and much safer... option of driving around to the eastern side before starting my hunt! Thanks **Benjamin Screamer** for this well placed and easily found cache.
Unfortunately the Prickly Pear Cacti that were in the area here have been decimated. There are still remnants left on the ground making the location of this cache still easy enough to find.TFTC
Found with NXTXN - with him being finder of four for four today! Must have finally found his geo-legs haha. Thanks Ben for a nice arvo of caching
I had decided on a mini road trip for this weekend, starting in Melton for breakfast on Saturday morning and ending in Ballarat for the GeoTour. What happened in between was the mystery!
After the CITO I teamed up with The_Tritonz again for a second day of caching adventures. If they weren’t sick of me yesterday surely today will do the job.
The last time I ventured into a cactus area to locate a cache I was poked and prodded by cactus needles all over. Fortunately that was not the case today and we made the find without incident.
Thanks Benjamin Screamer for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.

After attending a CITO at Hopetoun Park we headed back on the highway for Melton to cache for the afternoon with RoamingHowie.
Once an exotic icecream was devoured in town we headed out to the suburbs to continue seeking out some unfounds.
Thanks Benjamin Screamer for the placement.

Cactus defeated? Out on trusty treadles AKA the MTB exploring the outer ‘burbs’. Nice to be following a water course and see some remnant bush land. Returning to home base in the NE via circuitous route as I’m on a mighty large LGA mission so it’s Melton here I come today. It’s been hugely interesting to be in the flat country and witness the urban expansion. TFTC and the FUN - glad I came!
Between two events today, one out west, one out east. No cactus flowers - they seem to have been trampled. But the cache was quickly found.
My thanks for the cache, Benjamin Screamer.

On my way home after the mega, and I’ve come off the freeway at Melton for a few caches.
I hadn’t read the previous logs and as I approached GZ I was wondering where the cacti were. I wonder how the surviving cacti are coping with all this water.
Thanks for the cache Benjamin Screamer.

I decided to do a few cases in Melton on my way to Ballarat and this was a nice easy find
Well, the Cactus is well and truly gone now! This was a nice area to check out, besides the rubbish and the houses. I see both are difficult to avoid in this area. We enjoyed the walk around here today.
Unfortunate the cactus is gone due to someone burning plastic on top and the smell of the decaying cactus was soooo bad
Right where it’s meant to be. Clever use of available local hide. Straightforward find, T4TC
Set off after lunch to make the most of the weekend.
Made my way to Eynesbury to grab a handful of caches which turned into a leisurely loop walk.
Then to southern Melton.
The weather held off making it a perfect caching day.
The cactus flowers look ready to bloom soon.
Log signed and replaced as found.
Cache is in good condition.
Thanks for the Traditional cache Benjamin Screamer

Was able to give all the spikey plants a very wide birth to be able to find this one! Tftc

After attending the "Intervening Days Revisited" Event we spent the afternoon dodging roadworks, in and around Melton and to the east (Screamer Country really), in an effort to dot our geo-map with smiles, rather than green droplet icons. Yes there were cactus flowers in bloom.
Thanks Benjamin Screamer for placing such interesting and imaginative caches

Grub62 and I were visiting friends we made when we used to live in Melton and had some time to spare so a few caches were in order. Again we wandered about a bit for this cache but it gave us a good chance to view the cactus which was in flower now. TFTC.
After a lovely morning tea and a chat with friends - Bunadoorian and I came for a walk along this trail. The Cactus flowers were out on show today so thecache name was very apt. This was find 4 for today for us. I couldn't get over how many housing estates have been built since we left the area. TFTC and for bringing us here Benjamin Screamer.
Thanks for the cache after seeing my cousin and auntie found It I knew it had to be a good easy one
There's a new path built on the way to this find Another nice quiet little area to explore. tftc!
It seems COVID safe enough to enable the cache. Be careful. I don't want to disable this one again.
This cache has been temporarily disabled to reduce the chances of spreading the COVID-19 virus. It will be back in business when health authorities say it is safe to go bush walking etc. Stay safe. Wash your hands. Maintain social distancing.
Lovely walk along the creek trails on a sunny winter's afternoon. Pretty easy find after a couple of minutes searching. TFTC
9 June 2020, real quick find... was hoping to be able to take in this beautiful scenery. Gosh can't get over the houses here now!
This geocache is currently disabled because I support the government's non-essential activities restrictions that have been introduced because of the COVID-19 virus crisis. I encourage you all to suspend your geocaching activities ASAP. We must all work together to stop the virus spreading. The cache will be enabled in the future.
After a nice little walk down the path.i quickly make the find after reaching gz just as the spitting rain got alittle heavier. Hopefully it doesnt get worst. Tftc
This was a relatively simple find thanks to the new subdivision. No creek crossing required.
Thanks for the cache Benjamin Screamer.

This was a nice easy cache to find while out caching today with ilook4geo. We were able to stop close to it and were soon out to pick up the container. The log was quickly signed with two more names being added, all was put back into place and it was back to the car to get out of the cold and blustery wind. There was plenty of cactus here but no flowers today. Thanks go to Benjamin Screamer for placing and maintaining this cache.
Was out on a caching drive today with goingplaces2 and this was one of the caches we found. Everything was done quickly, as it was so cold and we wanted to move on. All logs were signed and replaced. TFTC.
As we were heading towards this cache, we thought that we may be thwarted by the extensive security fencing installed by those building the subdivision and other facilities. However by going closer to the creek, even though it meant walking through long grass, we were able to get access to this cache without encroaching on the construction area. Despite accurate coordinates it took a minute or two to locate this well hidden cache. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Benjamin Screamer for this cache and the others you have placed in the area.
They are big prickly pears!
Have kept this one for a streak day.
The area has developed a lot over the past few years and continuing.
Thanks Benjamin Screamer

Out and about with bogonghazy and geodog Tess for a few finds in the local area. The last one of the day before heading home. Nice to see some water in the creek and of course Tess enjoyed another swim. Thanks Benjamin Screamer
Firstly, apologies for the lateness in logging.
Despite my tardiness, you can be assured I enjoyed each and every cache found and not found.
Apologies if this is a generic log, my memory is good, but not that good.
On this day I was out with Sorceysal and Tessie the geodog
Thanks Benjamin Screamer, Tess enjoyed a swim here

**Boxing Day** - We made our way towards the Intervening Days Event.
Stopped off to grab some caches around 'the badlands'
I'd say something about the rubbish but the others have...
Thanks for the cache Benjamin Screamer. Appreciate your efforts.

It's Boxing Day and we'd rather be out caching than battling the hoards at the shops. We've made the trip to Melton for the return of the 'Intervening Days' event. I think I attended 3 or 4 of these events in the past and there have been plenty of new caches recently published to make it a nice day out.
We traversed the rocks across the creek to grab three caches before the event. The recent rain seems to have flooded the waterway and left some interesting items. The rubbish this river transits is appalling. It seems every bong has ended up here along the edges to the creek, we would have seen twenty of them - enough hose sections to make up a Gardenia Pro watering system!
We felt a little dodgy going over the fence but I don't think it's private property anymore. The cactus was super cool and a hope they don't remove it for the houses going in next door. Thanks for the cache Benjamin Screamer.

Lots of washed-up cache containers and other discarded plastic items in the area, but we crossed fences to get to this particular one. Spiky was the theme here: barbed wires and a big, mean cactus!
Now back down to the ford and up the other bank, hopefully we can find a few more before we attend the Intervening Days event.

TFTC! Have enjoyed my time with family in Melton West. Heading home to Tasmania on Sunday
but hope to be back to find some more of your caches in the future.

Finally was able to make my way to GZ by walking through all that construction and housing zone. Nobody stopped me on foot. They didn't allow me to go there by car. It is after all a creek and a walking path was nearby! I would suggest waiting for the construction to finish or the creek to dry up.
We had a lot of Prickly Pears growing near us when I was a child. The fruit tastes delicious.
Nicely hidden and happy to have a smiling face now.

The last of the three along this creek for the afternoon and this was an easy cache to find, not only for the accurate co-ordinates but also because the cache was hidden in a logical place meaning there is no disturbance to the area around GZ.
Took nothing, left nothing.
Thanks for this cache here today, it's always a nice experience to get out and find geocaches around the (almost) local area.

Thanks again for this little mini series, currently in a nice quiet location... but not for long when the houses get up.

Suscoe hit the road early today for a grand circle drive from Geelong to Bacchus Marsh, Melton, Werribee and then back home.
We had a delightful day really as the forecast rain did not find us at all until we were near to the Little River exit on the Geelong Road on the way home.
However we did get the cold atmosphere and the wind.
And of course the overnight rain ensured that the car was covered in a nice coating of Mud.
We enjoyed this trip a great deal exploring the roads around these towns and being amazed at the pace of progress with these new housing estates popping up everywhere.
Thanks to Benjamin Screamer for this hide.
It was very loud here due to bridge works on the Ballarat Line. They were busy here today.

Now that I was across the creek it was a short walk to the impressive patch of prickly Pear.
Spotted the hide on approach and found another way back to my car from the north where the creek was easily crossed with dry feet.
Cheers

The last time I was in Toolern Creek was for the inaugural local parkrun. This time I was here for a run of a different kind - a caching run! When I got near GZ I thought I was going to be in a world of pain to retrieve the container, but fortunately the CO wasn't so cruel with this one.
Could have been a lot worse !
Thanks, Benjamin Screamer.
