An easy find. Well done for putting and maintaining the caches in the Maryborough area. K C & W

A lovely drive out through the pineapple plantation to this historic site and a nicely hidden cache to sign.TFTC Liz and Bruce

The access wasinteresting. Dodging a tractor and irrigation equipment, we jolted over ruts on a track bisecting farmland. This track would quickly become boggy in wet weather. Private property signs were posted along the way, resulting in multiple checks that the track was considered a public road. Interesting tale of early settler at the cache site. Tftc.

Made our way out to this one and parked 100 meters from the GZ and walked the rest of the way respecting the land holders wishes. The farmer on tractor stopped his tractor and was watching us from a distance and he seemed ok with what we had done, once we got there we took photos of grave and signs to keep him happy, after that he started his tractor and continued his toil. The cache was spied so Signed log kingfisherau 4:15 pm 7/6/2024 and replaced all as found,Liz and Bruce - TFTC.And a fav for getting us out here !

We parked at the end of the track which was nice and dry today and walked the 100mtrs along the recently mowed path to the grave site. The cache was soon spotted, log signed and replaced as found. Thanks Liz and Bruce for showing us this place. A fav from us.

While floating between homes I have been frequenting Hervey Bay. Made arrangements for breakfast with a friend in Maryborough so I grabbed a couple of caches before and the rest after. This was one of the early morning ones. Public land? Felt like I was trespassing even though this is considered a road. I had to park and walk the last few hundred metres to the cache and then had to get myself out of being bogged. Luckily the cache itself was quickly found. This is a hidden piece of history and it feels like the farmers own it.

While staying in Maryborough for a few days with my geodog Scruffy , we just had to get out and find a few caches in this very interesting town ...

All Good .. TFTC ..

29-Jul-23
Had to dodge irrigation equipment on the way to the cache and in wet weather this may be a walk in cache only unless you have a 4x4.

What a lonely spot for the grave of an early pioneer who died before Queensland even existed.

Cache in good condition despite recent local fire .

We would never had known of this grave and Bidwell's importance to this area without geocaching and the effort cache owners put into their caches. It is poignant to find these graves alone in the countryside. Such a shame he died so young.

It was also surprising to see that cotton was grown in this area. Pineapples, sugarcane and cotton being rotated by this farmer.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache Liz & Bruce.

Currently staying at Hervey Bay, today we decided to head to Marybrough and pick up a few caches along the way and this was one of them.

Enjoyed exploring the area, and your cache was one we found along the way. A well worthwhile place to visit and see the history of the area. Amazing to see all the different crops growing in the area.

Many thanks to Liz and Bruce for placing this cache and adding to our geocaching experience today.

Last one today. I remember coming here quite a while ago to get info for another cache. Seems to overlook the the land he lived near. A quick find. Signed the log and returned to where I found it. Thanks Liz and Bruce. All good with this cache.

07-Jun-22
In the area with Selva Girls to do the JBF series and anything else that got in the way and this was one of them. I ended up having a bit of a slippery adventure on the last 300 mtrs of road and decided to reverse back before I surely would have ended up stuck. So a great adventure just getting to GZ as we didn't get bogged on the walk in. Once at GZ the cache was soon in hand and all was replaced as found.

Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for me and others to enjoy.

A FP for the adventure.

My caching buddy had spotted this cache on the map and thought it would be interesting to visit. About 300m from GZ, the road was very muddy from yesterdays rain. I watched as my caching buddy attempted to make it through to GZ. Ooops! Almost bogged there. I reversed quickly to get out of his way as he managed to get himself out of the mud. Leaving the geomobiles, we took a pleasant stroll to GZ, where the cache was quickly located and the log signed. TFTC

A lovely way to finish off a day off caching - interesting road to the grave area and while we were there some farm workers arrived to burn the left over pine plants etc - busy spot today! Thanks for bringing us to this historical spot L&B.

What a way to end the day caching and visit a historical out on a farm land. Parked the car and we walked over to the grave. Found the cache and signed the log. Waling back to the car about 200m away we talked to the farmers who were burning off old pineapple plants. Great chat. TFTC Liz and Bruce. Giving a FP for them location

Another type of cache we love to find. An historical grave from days long ago and a good history of the pioneer and how he came to be there. It was wonderful to see his burial location. My sister lives in a house built when early settlers settled the area where she lives. The house has 2 foot thick stone walls and heavy shutters for protection and there are 3 graves of the early settlers up near the shearing shed.
The cache is a tidy hide and was in good condition and we gladly signed the log.
Thanks Liz n Bruce for bringing us here.

Took the opportunity to get away for the weekend to Maryborough. Our aim today was to attempt some puzzles and others in the area after our big day yesterday completing the JBF series.. We had solved the puzzles recently so it was a good opportunity to go up and go for them.

Travelling & Caching with RoddyC and YOF.

Hoping we did not upset the local farmer.

The pineapple pickers were hard at work as I drove down this dusty road. I quite like pineapple as long as it’s not on pizza And the sweetest pineapple I’ve tasted was in Hawaii. But I digress

My visit to Bidwell’s resting place was rewarded with a cleverly-hidden Cache Dropping a FAVE point here

I had a day free to do some caching in Maryborough. This was one of the caches that I found.

I thought I was driving through private property until I spotted the sign post.

An interesting spot that, I am sure, not many people would know about. A quick find

TFTC. We are housesitting in Bundaberg for a few months. Having basically cached out Bundaberg, we needed to go further afield. We found some caches in Maryborough last year and there were plenty left to find, including a couple of very new puzzles. We aimed to find caches on the RV Homebase side of the Mary River and then to rectify a dnf from last year. We ended up expanding this a little, as you do. We had an enjoyable day attempting 23 caches for 22 finds and 1 dnf. We also qualified for a challenge cache back in Victoria. Great day and great variety .
A great bit of history in this out of the way area.

I took a drive out to the end of the road today.
And among the cane fields and pineapples,
found this lonely grave [:o]

Not having read the cache notes,
I wandered in from the end of the road,
and found Mr Bidwills grave stone Smile
There's a Bunya Pine growing here too !!

Surely that is not a coincidence !! [:o]

A read of the plaque explained the connection between tree,
and the bloke buried here Big Grin
I knew it wasn't a coincidence [^]

*Araucaria bidwillii* the Bunya Pine,
and Mr Bidwilli {:)]

I fear that the cache name is incorrect !!
And needs some editiing.
But it was a fun drive out to an historic place [^[

Fave dance for this one L&B [^]

Hi there Liz and Bruce.

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip around Maryborough today. We woke up early and started before the sun in order to beat the heat. We ended up finding a variety of containers hidden along our route.

Wow, there's quite a bit of history hidden out in the cane/pinapple fields.

All up we found 18 caches & DNF'd 0. Thanks for placing the cache here, without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places while we meander around Australia..

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache about 2m from where the GPS said we should be looking. Wink
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Nothing.

Regards

Ian & Penny.

We have set up camp at RV Homebase, Maryborough. We toured the area following the geocache trail.
A good variety of locations & caches. found.
We certainly didn't expect to find a grave out here amongst all the pineapple plantations. This man has certainly had a few adventures in his day.
Thanks for placing this cache Liz and Bruce

Left Nanango on Saturday 26th May four Yeppoon. Attended the event there on the Sunday and spent Monday night in Bargara. Tuesday and Wednesday night spent in Hervey Bay. Today, Thursday making our way home via the four needed to convert the colours here in Maryborough. Thanks to the Multi wasting over two hours of our time not able to get back into town. One aspect of the Multi is incorrect which the CO is going to amend. Drove home the back way to Tiaro. I had been out here previously to find the now archived cache. Thanks to good accurate co ordinates this was a quick find. All good here. TFTC Liz and Bruce. TFTC

Was working on the computer planning tomorrows caching when this one popped up. Had to get out there and try and achieve a Liz and Bruce FTF. Yahoo achieved. I was initially stumped as when I opened the cache hanging in the tree, had a signature from 2013. I continued my search and located the L&B CACHE. On my return home contacted L&B and they will remove the cache in the tree soon, Please disregard the silver cache hanging in the tree. Thanks for our QLD FTF.

On arriving back at our base camp this afternoon, we were met by an excited Bruce who had just had a new cache published. So we were off again to pick up the new offering and were happy to enter our name on the list as the second to find. This was a memorial and grave in the middle of cropping area and it looks to be well looked after.
The cache was nicely hidden and the nearby archived cache container was removed to avoid any confusion.
Thank you to Liz and Bruce for showing us this piece of history.
