Eldest geo kid did his last HSC exam yesterday and asked to head up to Buffalo for a visit. Who am I to say no. Weather was glorious and we walked out to the Reservoir. I hadnt downloaded this one but we had lunch only about 80 metres away. No information so I assumed would either be a skullracing cache (and a chance tucked Fien the bottom) or a Jamin Appleford (and probably up the top). The walk from Rocky River trail was fine and at the base I skirted the edge and had a Quick Look but the arrow was pointing to the top and so I knew this would be Bens doing. Scrambled up the back - only the last step was worrying (at least for the trip back down). Once up the top the cache was quickly found and in good condition (not quite a year from last time). Descent was safely achieved and in my way.TFTC Jamin Appleford
Man, I am glad I came into this one from Dunn track instead of Rocky Valley track, as I was nearly going to do as I was walking along looking at the Garmin and it was showing just there, but I followed the instructions the whole time thinking that I will just be bashing through more crap for a longer distance..But I am here to tell you dear reader, take heed of the cache page, as coming in from Dunn track is like a walk through Chadstone Shopping Centre (the fashion capital) than trying to get through the garbage from Rocky Valley. So I casually strolled my way up to the top thinking things like isnt this lovely and I say chaps, this is all rather smashing and other phrases that didnt have any swearing in them at allall that was to change in a massively big way at the next cache.Anyway, back to the action.Upon arrival at the top, I was rewarded with some great views, and I signed my life away in the log book, that was thankfully very easy to find, and listened to two people chatting away as they walked along the trail below me while I stood up above them like a silent sentinel, enjoying not having to bash my way through garbage.
This was a great surprise! View is awesome [resus] after a year UNLOVED. Photo of a stunning snowgum bark on way in - with RufousBB
Nice find. Great spot and worth the scramble to the top. Found with surfsparkle on the last day of 2020
Like those before me got to the rock and after searching for a short while, realised the CO wouldn’t make it so easy - especially after doing a 4T yesterday! Luckily it was a lot easier and less ‘risky’ for the solo traveller, in fact a lot for the .5 difference . Love emerging on top to view those fab distant features from another angle. TFTC
I was in the area today so I took the 10 min walk out to GZ from the reservoir car park to replace the logbook.
I have a feeling water got in due to the lid being open or the ziplock bag breaking the seal.
Just be careful when closing the lid and make sure the bag is properly tucked inside the container.
Cheers

Woo-hoo, my first trackable find, so took it. Excellent rough climb to top, part of whole day hiking. Log was too drenched to write my name in it, so I signed separate piece of paper.
Out on a day at Buffalo on the long weekend. We got up and made our way to the mountain. We drove to the reservoir and waited for some of our friends. We did the short walk and soon made it to The rock and after searching for a while, we realised the CO wouldn’t make it so easy. We found an easy way and four of us made our way to GZ. At GZ the cache was quickly found with great views of the plateau. Nice hide. TFTC
The evening arrival provided a little reconnaissance for the day ahead. Ropes would be neccesary on the slippery slopes with snow on the surrounding ground. The changed weather during the week had suggested a free climb to be risky.
The instant rope setter put the rope on target on the first attempt and after securing from the other side, the ascent was easy. The rope had passed within two meters of the target. A little slack rope and no unclipping was required.
From here the early morning sun rose over the horizon, shining brightest on Mt Dunn not far away. In the cold 2°C with frost and snow reflecting the early sunlight, it was special.
Nice climb.
Nice view.
Nice place.
Nice.......
