Logs
I remembered the name so despite no phone service I could find this one. Thank you.
This was my last cache on the maintenance run around the Chromite Loop Track. Log sheet was starting to show a little bit of age but would have been good for a couple more years. New - 'Write In The Rain' log sheet added as well to future proof cache for another 5-6 years. All good here - come find me!
Out for a walk around the chromite loop today, Definitely gave the legs a good workout. This was the first find and all in great condition. Thanks for the cache.
Today we had the ambition to visit the chromite mine. We had little success as we didn't find the entrance to the mine... But we had a lovely time and enjoyed our walk. At GZ, quickly found the container with was in good condition, as the logbook. I couldn't find my pen. It was int he car where I tried to quickly solve a mystery nearby. I don't like doing photologs, but here is a proof of us being here...
8/8 and our last find on the way back down the Chromite Loop. 2hrs 40min to this point, picking up caches along the way. Easy find again for Mr TEF. Next stop the Hackett Track and Earthcache.
I came out today to do a decent hike to see if I could metabolize some lockdown calories. The path up to this cache reminded me of how much I hate hiking uphill. TFTC.
A great way to spend a friday off work...I was heading to my cousin's place in Stoke to help her for the weekend and thought I'd stop off on the way for a wee tramp. I'd been eying up the Pelorus track from the other side and wondered what it was like from the Nelson side. The track had a couple of steepish bits but otherwise a pretty sedate track. Did this Chromite loop track and then up to Hacket hut and another loop track that headed up to the Browning Hut - but turned back to the carpark. All up I was wandering for around 5 hrs including caching.
Was heading down this track - almost at GZ when a dog and owners appeared heading upwards....we stopped for a chat and then I carried on for about 50M before heading back to grab the cache. All is well when you don't get muggled in the middle of nowhere LOL

Was looking in the wrong spot to start with. Easy find when I got to the correct spot
It would have been a quick find if I hadn't let the rock covering the container fall back landing on my thumb right on the nail ouch. Thanks andy.gail

Out and about with Ricardinho today and we needed to do a walk as part of our training, so we did a bit of the Hackett track, namely the Chromite Loop track. Thank goodness we went the way we did, a grunt up & a bit more gentle on the way down A stunning morning out exploring my back yard, mental note for next time, bring snacks!!

Another quick find here on what is our downhill bit. No probs, TFTC And.gail.
Out and about with RG1972 today and we need to do a walk as part of our training, so we did a bit of the Hacket track, namely the Chromite Loop track.
Bit chilly in the shade on the way in, but we soon warmed up. Did it anti clockwise, so the up was gruntier. Made for a descent a little kinder on the knees. Mostly good success. This filled in the morning then we popped off to the event in the early afternoon. Thanks all.

Miraculously any possible virus contamination disappeared from geocaching containers at 11:59 last night [:0]
Ms M and I had planned for a ride and walk to do this loop and it just so happened that the stars were aligned on day 1 of Alert Level 2.
We chose o walk anti-clockwise which turned out to be a great decision.
1) Glad we didn't try and bike any further up the valley. A few spots walking back were too tricky for our ability.
2) The short sharp climb and long gradual descent seemed to be preferable for our enjoyment.
The track was so much better than when I was last up here finding some b&w caches. It made such a difference not having to deal with gorse bushes although if the track is attended to by spring it may be a bit prickly again.
Glad to have the hint, otherwise I could have been searching for quite some time in the wrong place. Had to laugh at the Healtheries container. Ms M had sent me out shopping the other day to specifically get the same concoction, however it HAD to be Red Seal!
A very enjoyable loop walk on a perfect. Thanks for bringing us out here again Andy & Gail.

Its getting harder and harder for us to manage to find a day we are all available and somewhere that meets all our needs on a particular day. Today everything aligned perfectly so we were off for another fantastic walk up in the Hackett and mineral belt. TFTC # 14,977
One of the SIS wanted a set number of caches today. Mrs Sobad didn't but cricket was on so SoBad was going to be occupied. An excellent reason to have an expedition. As we got out of the car, Sidewaze spotted the bottle of cream bought last night left in the car. Mrs S was going to discard it but Sidewaze put it in the stream while the rest of the party were getting organised. Yes, it was there when we returned.
Thanks for the extra excuse for an outing.

I've had a couple of trips in this area searching for caches but for various reasons there have been others that I have left behind, so when a plan was hatched for an expedition up the Hacket I leapt at the opportunity. This was the first cache of the day and no one in the team had found it so it was a good way to start the day. It didn't take too long to locate a likely hiding spot. TFTC .
We thought of staying at the Hacket hut tonight but due to the weather forecast for tomorrow we changed plans and came to do the loop walk instead.
Beautiful sunny day today. I walked passed the big rock thinking "a cache here would be nice", then checked and was happy to see there actually was one, right there.

Gk knocked off work a bit earlier than usual so that he could get to find this cache before the light faded. He had prefound it a couple of weeks ago, so he knew exactly where he was going to and what he was looking for.
With half a dozen cars in the carpark, again he was surprised at how many people use this track in the late afternoons and evenings.
He headed up the valley at a quick pace, he passed two lots of people heading back to their cars and he caught up to a group and a dog who were heading in, that was all before he got to the turn off to Whiskey Falls.
He mad his way up to the cache and found the cache, he is a little surprised that this is not found more often given the amount of people that have been in the area each time he has gone up there lately.
The cache and log are in good condition, he signed the log and returned it as he found it.
Thanks for placing the cache and thank you for the smiley.

After a busy couple of weeks it was nice to have the opportunity to head out for a descent walk with the dog especially now that many of the local tracks have been reopened following the recent fire restrictions.
Keen for a worthwhile tramp I picked the Chromite Loop in a clockwise direction as I’d never been up and around this way and with a descent possible haul of caches I was all set.
After stopping for a paddle in the stream the dog stormed on ahead while I counted down the metres. I need not really have worried two much as the feature item was easily spotted. At least the hint narrowed down the hiding place options. I was pleased for that!

FTF I didn't think I be back out here quite this soon but it was a lovely winter's day today so I got by bike out and headed to the track. I rode to the bottom of the Chromite Mine track (old one), locked my bike to the sign post and headed on up the trail. All good at GZ with the cache found as per the hint. TFTC, Biggles.
