Day 29 of our Enzed adventures with Robmc and today we rode the ebikes from Kohatu to Nelson through the tunnel. It was a beautiful day for a ride and the few few caches were logical and easily spotted so we thought we had this in the bag. By the time we had a very late lunch we had to make the decision to just ride straight home or incur a penalty with the bike shopThere were quite a few dnfs and they might still be there. Thanks for contributing to a great day's riding

Out with Sambolena and her two boys and some of the rest of the family for a wee walk through the tunnel. First find for the day. Cheers

13-Apr-19
A few of us W.A.S.P. associate members popped over the hill to here today to do a bit of the trail here through the tunnel. We missed our intended drop off point for us two and so had a warm up ride from near Wai-iti to Belgrove before starting the hunt from there. This was our first, easy find, of the day and as a bonus nearby was a rather road worn 20 cents for the tip jar.

16-Jan-19
first cache for today, and a nice strong bridge it is too Smile

Found while out riding a section of the Great Taste Trail with NZDi. For the second Christmas holiday in a row we are camping at Quinney's Bush with our extended family and today some of them decided to take a trip into Richmond for some retail therapy. NZDi and I took the opportunity to do some caching and got them to drop us off at Wai-iti Reserve with our MTBs with the intention of riding back to the camp ground caching along the way. The main objective was to do this CO's recent Great Taste Trail series of 14 caches between Belgrove and Spooners Tunnel.

This cache was located on a feature that is becoming common on the trail, at least the part that we have ridden. I wouldn't call it pretty or beautiful myself, more like functional. I found it interesting that the bridges located on the main road were painted bright blue, however those located in a bush setting were painted a colour more fitting.

This is a new placement since my last caching venture along the Great Taste Trail and the hint gave away the location of this cache, having found several of this type of hide previously.

The team have driven past this cache twice while heading for walks to collect the CO's series on the cycle track up to the tunnel. Today Mrs Sobad solo took a look at the weather which was much nicer than the forecast and headed for the drive to caches. This was the first and the cache made a nice addition to the bridge.
Thanks.

On the way from the Spooners trail to Wai-iti domain, we had to stop by the BBB. A quick find here, all is good. TFTC gkmlb, got a few of yours today, and off we go again.

Today was a trip to the Tasman region with Capperz; a second crack at a trip we aborted a few weeks back. A 7am start for us, the main goal was Spooners tunnel and a few newer caches on the cycleway there. After that enjoyable there-and-back trip we stopped off at Wai-iti domain and unleashed the bikes again for a climb up the nearby forestry road. An interesting trip as my bike could only get the lowest gear if I got off and moved the chain myself, which meant it mostly stayed there; while Capperz struggled with breaking on the downhill bits. I think that was the more threatening issue, to be fair. But after we safely completed that loop there were some park and grabs around back roads, side tracks and forestry roads and a brisk walk to a lonely-ish cache on a nice little conservation walking track before we decided that was enough for the day and it was off home. An enjoyable day, just the one DNF I think, the weather was not warm but thankfully held off being rubbish, which it had threatened to do in parts. Thanks to all the COs for placing and maintaining your caches!

Another blue bridge along the GTT, worth another cache for sure. Nearby river was bubbling along nicely and ric.nz soon had the cache in hand. T F T C gkmlb - again.

After a missed opportunity for this trip a few weeks ago, which resulted in the demise of the Terranosaurus, the possibility of a second bite at the Spooners Rail Trail power-trail was resurrected following a chance meeting with ricardino at the local quiz. The matter of when this great taste of the Tasman geo-trail would occur was discussed, dismissed, then resurrected when it was confirmed that my taxi-driving duties for my dai=ughter were not required and I was off the leash for an away-day.
We set off at a decent time of 0700, with bikes attached for use on the trail(s), and I left my cup of tea on the letterbox in my excitement of a roadie. Out via St Arnaud led to low numbers for the first hour and a half before we hit the rich vein of available finds for both. At the end of the day - the sun went down on a grand total of 35 finds for me, and around 46 for r.nz.
The Spooners Trail was a hoot, just over an hour from car to tunnel end, then 12 minutes back once all the caches had been found on the way 'up'. Once that was done we hit the Wai-Iti domain and a cycle trail before p n ging our way back to Marlborough. Good caching weather today and good company too. Thanks for all the cache placements.

As my helping friends move house continues into day 2 my caching plans for the day take a different direction.

Thankfully there was the cache just 10-ish minutes detour out of my way, so whilst the movers went on way I went the other keeping my figures crossed for a quick find.

I guessed lucky and parked in the right side and although I started looking in a few conventional places, a read of the hint focussed my attentions and a spied something a little out of place a few minutes later.

Now, back in the car to catch up with the workers before I’m missed!

Thanks gkmlb

Out for a bike ride starting at the Wai-iti domain though to Norris Gully. Pick up caches on the way. Had a fantastic ride nice day and every cache found. Would recommend this ride to everyone, mite be a little up hill but it’s down hill going home and the tunnel is fun ( just don’t touch the sides they are still covered in soot ) Thanks for all the caches I found on the way.
Ps apologies for the cut and paste

A quick and easy find. Great to keep the bikes away from the traffic. Thanks

Having a wee break up in Nelson. Today we drove up in lovely fine weather till we hit the bike trail. Luckily it was only light rain. We found some caches, and those we found together were signed Ms+Mr KR. We also signed the log book 17th instead of the 18th. Whoops.

Thanks to the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

Ms M suggested a walk so we could have some time together before I headed off "Leaving on a jet plane" again. I proposed three different geocaching walks and she chose this one.
We sussed this cache out as we drove up to the tunnel trail parking area and realised that the best parking was found when driving northbound.
Trail completed and we parked up to trot across the road for a quick find.

The weather forecast didn't look very good for today but Dad and I managed to dodge the worst of it by coming out here before lunch. A really nice Sunday morning ride from Waiiti Domain to the tunnel and back. A good range of cache hides and all found without any issues. Thanks gkmlb for the trail of caches.

Having found all the Hidden Creatures up to the Dragon level, I'm now on the quest for the World Turtle. This cache is #4 of 50 required. I was going to continue up the trail but when I got there I realised that dogs weren't allowed and as I had Fozzie the geodog with me, I turned around and headed for home - stopping at the Wai Iti reserver for walkies on the way. Found this cache in the second place I looked. TFTC, Biggles.

Been holding off getting caches for a while. Quick find on a cool day

These blue bridges have become quite a landmark round the region as the trails stretch far and wide. This one was a taster for all of us today on our way to walk from the tunnel back collecting a nice row of smilies and a few hidden creatures along the way. TFTC # 12,673

Thank you Glenda and Ro for the wonderful geocaching day.
Nice easy find on this cold nelson morning our first cache of the day.
Thank you gkmlb for the cache

That's funny, when this one was published I assumed another with a similar name had been archived and this one replaced it. I guess I didn't study the map in any great detail, so today I got a surprise when the GPS insisted I drive right past the aforementioned cache. Ah ha. That sure is a beautiful blue bridge - - - and there's the cache Smile. Thanks!!

I meet paddle chick after work and headed for the spooners track to walk though to the tunnel and get the caches on the way.Our first stop was to get this one .Thanks for placing this cache gkmlb

I was out of town when all of these popped up so no chance of a FTF. I've decided all split them into 3 separate outtings to fit in with my 10+ challenge rather than being greedy and finding them all in one go. Grrr I forgot my gps when I left home this morning so had to use the phone, it had no idea where it was going from 0 to 20 metres in a second, one minute pointing into the paddock and the next the other side of the road. In the end I ignored it and used my caching sense and found quickly. Thanks for placing gkmlb

It's a race between us and the rain, but we've still got a couple more caches to find before we get back to the car. A quick stop here, wait for a gap in the traffic and make the find. Sign the log before it gets any water on it and get it rehidden again. Time to move on, tftc

Big GrinFTFBig Grin with Hazedarus at midday.
We were still making plans for a day out further field when we got an unexpected visitor this morning. By the time he left we had to rethink our plan since a large chunk of the day had already gone. It didn't take too long to come up with a loop encompassing two new caches, one we have bypassed many times for various reasons and a previously "couldn't even stop and look" cache due to road works with a stop/go operator within 3m of GZ.
We parked in a safe area and walked the short distance to GZ where we were surprisingly greeted with a blank log book, quite unexpected at this time of day.
Thank you gkmlb.

Big GrinFTFBig Grin We hoped for a beautiful day caching but the weather looked like it could go either way. Then an unexpected visitor and the morning was gone. Meantime the weather had settled and we made a plan. It became a pleasant afternoon on the road with four finds including a FTF. Not sure how close to GZ we could find a safe park we opted for a short walk. With plenty of good hiding places we started a systematic approach. Then Holymu noticed something only a cacher would and to our great surprise we held an unblemished logbook. Thank you gkmlb
