Couldnt get the chirp to find itself on the GPS, so resorted to the other method. Thanks for the cache.

Replaced battery. Good to go again.

This was a fun little adventure. Out at the quarry checking out our special cherry blossom spot that we visit every year I don't have an ANT compatible device but enjoyed finding the secret note which led us to GZ- my partner did the projection and after a short stroll we had the cache in hand. Last signed 7/23 so this was a bit of a lonely cache but everything is in good order. TFTC- I needed a mystery cache today

As our phone wasn’t ANT+ compatible we had to find the first waypoint. Found that easily enough. Once we got the coordinates found the cache in no time. First mystery find for us!

Nice cache. TFTC Team_Gaters For creating and maintaining this Mystery GC7T2W8 (Army ANT (Canterbury))

Found with AaronE215 and ivss_xx. We struggled a bit at the final but fortunately ivss had an old saved note that gave us a good shove.

FP awarded for the projection info for those of us that don’t have chirpy technology! Big help and much appreciated.

14-Jul-23
Great hide. Plenty of room left to sign. Thanks for the projection, saved us. Found with OSC. TFTC!

I don't have space on my phone for any more apps so I took the alternative option and found the container with the offset in. Nice walk and cool spot, thanks!

Letting a trackable which wants to visit Chirp caches visit....

12-Dec-22
I came here a few months ago with no luck but was using mostly guesswork that time and a bit of logic. Because I have an iPhone I can’t get CHIRP but last week I figured out how to do projections with my Cachly app. It took me to the same spot as last time. Searched high and low for ages and I then spotted it. It shouldn’t have taken me that long to find it

Thanks for the replacement nano guys. Dissapointing that my replacement went missing so quick after years of being ok...will leave the nano in place untill i can find another replacement. We'll see if the nano lasts or if the hide is completely compromised....

Out with family for a picnic at Halswell Quarry and had solved this on a previous visit but ran out of time for search at GZ. Today searched and found something which seemed out of place but no cache. Tried to message CO to confirm but no luck but managed to touch base with a previous finder that confirmed we were in right place. Put a temporary in place and messaged CO. Thanks Team gaters for a fun wander.

19-Apr-22
Tregearp and I had solved the coordinates for the final on our last visit to Chch but run out of time to go for the final - even though close. Today we were back in the area for a family picnic and had time to search for the cache. We didn't find the cache, but we did find the place we presume the cache used to hide. We confirmed with a previous finder - and then saw the CO's log that confirmed the cache is no in place. We happened to have our maintenance bag with us and had a spare nano & new log that we replaced as an interim with Tregearp messaging the CO.

Thanks Team Gaters for the interesting intro into a not often used technology, and another opportunity to fossick around the quarry.

Alternate in place
Final geocache ...awol
Replacement installed

Had a great adventure with non-chirping gadgets, compasses and GC directional tools. Cache was not in place but logging with permission from CO.

16-Jan-22
We could not get the chirp to work on our GPS or our cellphone but found the projection hint quickly. I used the tool to give me some new coordinates and we were soon at gz. This is quite an unexpected feature in this country and this place unless that building used to be a church. We looked high and low, then Beeba read that the previous finders today had been allowed to log the find as the cache is missing. The CO kindly allowed us to log the find too. Thanks for the great adventure.

15-Jan-22
Was with gkmlb and a previous finder. Cache was not there but logging with permission from co. Enjoyed doing this one and technology worked fine

14-Jan-22
Made use of the old school technology - appreciate the alternative being available. Thanks.

We had met up with bullertrout and Nosynel for a bit of caching and chatting this morning, it was almost like a mini event.
Bullertrout was keen to find this one and as we approached there were a couple of men at gz. It turns out that one of the men leases the nearby house from the council and we were welcome to wander around this area. Geocaching was mentioned and they quickly moved to another area so that we could have a look for this cache.
After searching every nook and cranny and we couldn't find it. With a previous finder with us we were confident it was not there. Nosynel contacted the CO and confirmed what we had found is where the cache had once been.
We were given permission to sign from the CO, which is much appreciated as we are from Nelson and don't get to this area very often.

Thanks for setting up the cache and thank you for the smiley.

I had actually looked for this once before in the dark. No idea why (but happy I didn't) find this that time. Back today for another go - initially I couldn't pick up the ANT but I wandered a bit further where I remembered it picking up previously and then it was all go. A quick find today in the daylight. Have a favourite. TFTC # 17,316

Yay - the chirps never really took off, but they were always great fun to do. Enjoyed completing this chirpy fellow today with drawp. TFTC

17-May-21
Yrs it has been a while since we found a chirp cache. All sweet here TFTC

15-Apr-21
I've had a new GPS for a few month, but never tried it on a chirp cache yet, so I thought I'd try this - worked flawlessly! Easily found, nice.... would be keen to see a muggles face when they found this haha. Thanks for the placement Very Happy

TFTC Team_Gaters, the cache was found in good order Very Happy Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 1 find(s) of 3 today, making this find #2609

Found on a dog walk.
Didn't know where the final of this was so made a bit of a mistake by going and getting the virtual first and then scanning the coords for this one. Turned into a bit of a back and forth, back and forth.
I'd suggest visiting GZ of this first and then going from there Smile

Anyway, there was a muggle occupying the final spot when I was passing it first anyway (not knowing that was the final spot).

But you know what keeps playing in my head over and over after reading the name of this cache?

Took a while to find where the chirp was hidden as knew it was somewhere. Got it and got it loaded second attempt. Then it crashed. Oh well put it on the map. Went to which was a likely place. Blind as a bat couldn't find it. Back to the start and hoorey got the chirp again and stayed in. So off again for another look. Definitely need to put my glasses on.

Thanks for the chirp.

Team BOP on another crazy mission again to the South Island. Lockdown gave us a lot of free time that we directed into Canterbury’s many Geo-Arts and with the Auckland 2020 Mega postponement, Christchurch was an easy decision. Team BOPs current incarnation is DavidsonClan, NZFlossy, McJandals and myself and we’ve signed all the logs as Team BOP to save time and log space.

So Labour Weekend 2020, it’s a numbers mission, the Cachly cut’n’paste template is sorted and while I unapologetically use this tool, I really appreciate you placing this cache for us to find. We're just having a wander round today with no particular plan - We managed to find this one quickly and without fuss. I really quite enjoyed the Haswell Quarry and there's a few different cache types available here too - a neat location. My Garmin 750T did it's jobs well here as I haven't done many of these cache types before - I struggled to even find the chirp function haha. Cheers Team_Gates & TFTC

On a mission to the south after mega in Auckland was canceled. Team Bop booked airfares and here we are. Thanks all COs for your efforts. Due to numbers please excuse copy and paste logs in advance. FP cool container.

26-Oct-20
With the Mega Covid cancelled this year a part of Team BoP decided to come south and try get all our solved puzzles, and some others along the way. So here we are!

Had a bit of fun doing this with the team. A def FP

I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these cache. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

26-Oct-20
As Auckland Mega has been postponed we decided to do a trip south to Christchurch. Four of us from Team BOP joined up to share a car and accomodation. I always love these weekends as the company is great and makes our days and nights out caching lots of fun. We have done lots of puzzles in preparation and did some long windy roads to get them. Found lots of great caches and thanks to all the COs for the effort that goes into these Please excuse the copied logs and I will try to make some individual notes on as many as I can This sort of trip is where I find the cachly app very valuable. Excellent cache it was a lot of fun for our group TFTC

Ive used my old gps for finding chirps before but this was the first time with the new one, it seemed to take ages before it picked it up or maybe I was just impatient. The cache gave m a bit of a fright at first glance but it was harmless, cool container. Thanks Team_Gaters

Had downloaded Chirp and Ant then picked up busy paws to find this cache. Confess to using other option as sure wasn't playing the game. Tried using GCC to project and got nothing so did lot's of walking to try options. Then we walked what I thought might work and looked around, felt we were in the right area. Mr C gets the honours here for finding the ANT. It is a gorgeous cache container and we were very happy to sign log. Thanks for the fun challenge and cache Team-Gaters, a fav from us.

03-Sep-20
My garmin didn't respond at all to the area. So, we found the back up and tried to get our phones to show us the way. It was eventually a logical route and feature that gave us the great find. Very clever and a bit OHHH. TFTC and the experience. Cool

10-Aug-20
Detoured on the way home from work.
Chirp still active/transmitting.
Alternative in place.
Final in place and ok.
All good.

08-Aug-20
Unable to use a chirp, used the other option, and although went searching in likely areas, a DNF for me sadly Sad

22-Mar-20
Had fun finding like the theme this is the start of my quarry hunt for me

20-Jan-20
** I am not breaking any laws. Just very behind in logging. Safely from the comfort of my own home **

Went for a walk and a drive with mum for some unwind caching time - bliss! She had already found this one, so when we walked past the final, pointed out where to search, and voila!

28-Dec-19
First find today. I don’t have an android phone and the Garmin, whether compatible or not, is back in Blenheim so I used the projection method kindly mentioned on the cache page and made a quick find. Nice container too, I will give this one an FP but wish I could have tried the chirp!

A few caches today in-between other commitments, ie watching cricket and eating.
First up in the morning I took Jed the reluctant geo mutt to the Halswell quarry where there is a nice series of walks and a dog park.
There is also a virtual, an earthcache, a letterbox, an oldie for a hidden month calendar hole, and a few others.
Coincidence?
Nope.
So I reached my humble targets for the day, the dog got some exercise but still can’t sniff out a container to save itself, and my bro in law Hamish joined us later with his whippet which promptly ran rings around everything else there.
In the afternoon I casually made my way home with just a few targets. A few DNFs there too. But some important and fun ones found.
All good, another fun day in the Garden City. Thanks all COs.

Got the projection data from the backup, but calculation was off, so missed it twice. Visited quarry park again, and finally got the calculation right and headed to the GZ which looks a lot like a possible hide. Reached out and was “what is that!” When the container is in hand, I believe it really fits the theme.
TFTC!

This has been on my to do list for a while now. I like techy caches and I have a few chirps at home with one in play - maybe I should hide another somewhere? Yeah I think I will. So with it being such a nice August Spring(?!) day I managed to bribe the kids and bring them out here to do some exploring. This was our first find for the day and at the resolved GZ quite a surprise! Nicely done and deserves a favourite point. Thanks Team_Gaters.

15-Jul-19
My second chirp in a week, quite surprising. A short wander around and the coords showed up. A wander to finish off the Virtual here and then back for the final. Nice work, it looks quite cool by torch light! Cheers

08-Jul-19
For my personal daily challenge I needed to find two caches today to bring my total for the 8th July up to 11 found. A perusal of my unfounds revealed that today's mission could be easily accomplished by a visit to Halswell Quarry.

Once at the park this was the first cache sought. I see from my notes that I last visited the quarry back in late September last year and amazingly my Montana 650t received the Chirp signal (something it has proved in the past to be useless at) and the coords, whereas my Android phone didn't.receive any signal. Due to pressure of time back then I wasn't able to proceed to the final, so the log signing was left for another occasion. Today, was that occasion. Nice cache, though some viewers may not think so. Wink Now off to complete the tasks for the nearby Virtual. Cheers

#17213. We both needed three finds today, so headed out after work for a spot of night time caching. I already had the final coords for this one thanks to a scouting mission some time back. Despite having located the cache on the aforementioned scouting mission, it still took a little while to spot (even though I'd got a cache note about where to look). Nicely done. TFTC.

27-Jun-19
Tonight, with a few finds to make for a calendar day, StreetWalkerNZ and I headed to Halswell for a spot of night time caching, followed by a delicious curry at a local (to Halswell) restaurant.
It's been a while since I had done a chirp cache, but didn't need to dust off the technology today as SW had already done the legwork a while back. We managed to drive quite close to GZ Smile, and SW took one route to GZ while I took another. Despite knowing where the cache was hidden, it still took a few minutes to track down. Very cute. I took SW's route back to the car, but I think that was through private property Red Face.
Thanks, TG, we'll return for the virtual another day -hopefully in daylight.

18-Jun-19
Once again I failed to use a Chirp detecting app on my phone, I downloaded another app to try this time with no success. I was pleased to use the provided projection, and wandered in the direction indicated until I spotted a likely spot, and made the find, TFTC!

18-Jun-19
Concerned by all the 'cant detect the chirp' logs i came for a look. I couldnt detect it either (flat battery?) so i went looking for it where i hid it and imagine my surprise when i couldnt find the beacon itself! What the. Placed a new beacon. Good to go again.
Not sure if stolen or a teenytot or rodent found it...but fyi, once programed a beacon can only be reprogramed by the same gps.
Anyhoo. Beacon replaced. All good now.

16-Jun-19
Found at 8:45 am while on a week's break in Christchurch. Will expand log when we get back home (as well as answers to questions, qualifying caches, photos, etc.).

I parked up a few metres inside the gate and pulled up the chirp application on my phone. I know this has worked with the Garmin beacons before but I haven't had a chance to use it on a cache that I haven't found before. My first problem was that the Chirp app couldn't detect the ANT chip. A bit of online research and I discovered that when my phone upgraded to Android 9, the permission granted to the ANT Radio Service was revoked. Once granted the app could detect the chip, but unfortunately I couldn't locate a chirp - which I now see was caused by the beacon going missing. Maybe I'll find one, one day.

Anyway, looking back at the description I see that there is some information hidden nearby and I soon found that. Calculated the location and saw that it was near a spot I'd already been to, so back I went. Headed over to the calculated GZ and after a little bit of hunting, found the nicely themed cache. Signed and replaced. All good here (apart from the now replaced missing beacon). TFTC

14-Jun-19
I didn’t have a chirpy thing so found the offset while setting up Ghosts. Had the opportunity to look for the cache today so set my GPS and off I went arriving at a likely spot. Had a look around and then rechecked my photo for the hint.

Looking looking and then holy moly there it was almost slipped over on the wet grass and a silent scream I’m sure. Imagine army of these marching into your tent or raiding the pantry. A favourite for the scary factor alone and for setting up this cache. TFTH

06-May-19
Helping out with the school cross country today and managed to slip away for a quick find. Nice idea for a cache. Container worth a FP. Not sure whose shoulders are that size though! Thanks to all cache owners for taking the time to place and maintain your caches. Team Broadbent (signed TB on micros). Find # 2103

10-Feb-19
After an inexact approach the first time, we calculated the final methodically at home. But on our second visit we had forgotten about the hint at the waypoint. Somehow we stood at GZ without noticing the cache! We went back to the waypoint, checked it, saw the hint, and the rest was easy. TFTC

08-Feb-19
No chirp so it took two visits. Great cache. Thanks

25-Jan-19
First chirp cache, signal easily detected; TFTC

30-Sep-18
Visiting Chch from Nelson and had some time for a brisk morning walk and couple of cache finds. Have visited Halswell Quarry before but not by this entrance. Sadly my Chirp didn't pick up the signal so had to revert to the alternate approach. Quick find at GZ but the cache container gave me cause for hesitationSmile. TFTC Team_Gaters

28-Sep-18
Knew exactly what to do with this cache, and knew that my GPS had the necessary bells and whistles to do so. A short search for the Chirp, and the coordinates were in my hands. By this stage my GPS batteries had did, and my phone didn't seem to want to orient me correctly, however, I eventually counted the distance down to zero and the cache was a quick find. Thanks for the cache.

27-Sep-18
Tried this cache some time ago, but could not remember how to use ANT on the Garmin. So using the information, but had an error in the calculation and ended up in the wrong place. So today with the complete information it was a quick and easy find. Container was what we expected - well done! Thanks for this cache - and will try ANT one day...

20-Sep-18
A spectacular day so i diverted my walk to nearby. Had a fabulous walk up into the quarry and back. Unfortunately my Garmin wasn't talking so had to revert to the offset. As I approached GZ I though I wonder, gave myself a terrible fright when my head came within mm of the cache when having a look. Just about took my head off as I pulled away from the cool hide. Thanks for the effort that has gone into this cool cache and of course placing and maintaining the cache. A Favourite from me.

19-Sep-18
Closest unfound cache to home. Did this the offset way, and bagged the very clever final on the start of a regular run I have up Kennedy's bush. TFTC, a fav point from us for innovation and presentation

15-Sep-18
The weather forecast was amazing for the weekend, so I decided to explore around the quarry, and up the hill. This was so much fun, and a cool area to dicover!! TFTC!!

14-Sep-18
Checked Chirp. Still transmitting...re-positioned into a hopefully slightly better position - hopefully better to transmit/receive the signal. Might help slightly if you turn and face the quarry entrance road a bit...

07-Sep-18
Have used chirp a few times but got no vibration or chirps today. Brought me to an area of the park I hadn't been to before. Thanks for the hide. #3172

02-Sep-18
I wasn't too sure about how to solve this but I downloaded an android app on my phone as suggested and managed to get the coords using this app even though I didn't hear any "chirps" at all! Junior cacher was excited to make the cool find, nice cache container! Tftc.

11-Aug-18
Used Mr B's phone for this one as mine isn't smart enough. Initially it would only tell us the position of the chirp so I found the extra hide and worked out where the cache would be hidden using my phone. By the time I had done this, Mr B had had another go with his phone and found all the details. Dunno what went wrong the first time.
A short walk later and the cache was found. TFTC and have a favourite from us.

28-Jul-18
Having just walked the uphill at the adventure park while in the area collect a couple of caches. Sneaky, found what we needed and a smile was there.

28-Jul-18
It is a low number calendar day so I really wanted to find a geocache too. After a walk with Bbear it was time to find a geocache or 2. The chirp didn't work so we were pleased for the keyboard. Another great hide.

Thanks. Team_Gaters for putting in the effort to hide this geocache. This was find 5999 for me.

21-Jul-18
A quick and easy find as it was sitting on top and clearly visible, Returned where it was meant to be. Used the key hide for the coords, as the chirp search got stuck at 42%.. Thanks

Cruising around, heading to the airport and home.

Thanks to the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

09-Jul-18
Three days, three different cool caches. It's always nice to find something a little different, and caches like this take it to another level.
I knew exactly what I needed to do at the WPT, and knew the final would be in keeping with the theme. It still got a little "reaction" when I spotted it - about 10cm in front of my face!
If the CO and TW keep this up I might actually use up my favourite points!
TFTC Team_Gaters Cool

Didn't think our chirp was working but went off in the direction we thought. Couldn't find anything so started again. Approached from a different direction and we were correct after all. A fun cache. Thanks TG a favourite from us.

08-Jul-18
Knew CO was planning some thing. He told me it was submitted and I waited for an age. Got the notification at 11.50pm or some such random time and headed out in the dark. Was at posted in no time and sussed the coords. Short walk to GZ and quick find for an early morning {FTF} at 12.03 am! Home to a warm bed.

Thanks for the cache Team_Gaters.

Another brief sortie with purdiepurdie this afternoon, trying to keep on streaking puzzle caches.
We parked next to a familiar looking vehicle and saw the Warbut team for a chat; then off to calculate the offset.
Excellent cache, a favourite from me. Thanks for the supreme effort you have made with this cache, TG.

08-Jul-18
We were 'keeping' this for later in the week but in the end couldn't resist. Even though we had the Montana we had to use the offset, for which we were very grateful. The icing on the cake was meeting with Kotuku and Purdie Purdie, and exchanging some grumbles about our GPSrs. The final nearly had us fooled with one of the hints!!! But a good find and a surprise. Now we understand the Title.

TFTC. Out for a cache with KSI as we hunt down our daily puzzle caches to qualify for a challange when we get to the Wellington Mega.
Lovely to spot fellow cachers Warbut + beloved and have time for a chat.
We used the off set option.
Great cache.
A fav point from me.
Thanks TeamGaters for the cool cache - lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
