What a lovely little war memorial close by. Too many names for a little community. TFTC # 20,133
I was a bit in trepidation wondering what the roads would be like- I get a bit nervous on narrow windy hilly gravelly roads. But I needn't have worried, transversed with no problems. A bonus being able to get some trads while hunting down 20/20 puzzles. Thanks Madge Family.
I am out signing off or trying some more of the 20/20 series that I started a few year back.
This is not one of the puzzle series but of another one.
Cheers for the cache, Madge Family.

Out on a 20/20 mission with Talla64, Taybee and TaybeeNZ and we couldn't resist going for this one as we were close to the area. Logged as TNZFT. Thanks for the cache Madge Family.
On a caching mission with Flowerydaze, Taybee and TaybeeNZ mostly aiming at 20/20 caches but also picking others up on the way. Logged as TNZFT to save space on the log sheet. TFTC Madge Family

Based ourselves nearby for a few days to complete some of the local cache trails. quick find while in the area TFTC.
One of my sons in Whangarei is going on an OE. He sold his car to his brother Tim in Dunedin and fortunately for me Tim wanted me to drive the car down. Of course I jumped at the idea of a geocaching roadie. I've had lots of puzzles solved for such a long time so geoarts were the main target of the trip.
In Palmy area I wanted the shield series and the 20/20 geoart. Then Wairarapa was stickman (which we ran out of time for), the new M geoart and some archived skindo challenges. Wellington was finishing off the kiwi geoart. Nelson I had a few challenges I wanted before heading to Christchurch. It was family time there and perhaps the smile series but time ran out again. Off to Dunedin for the airplane geoart. Then it was time to fly home to say goodbye to my son heading to Denmark.
It was great to have my friend Supernanny come along on the trip for company. We had a wonderful trip and fantastic weather apart from one afternoon. Now it's time to start writing the massive backlog of logs which is taking a while. Helen spotted this trad while finding the 20/20 series. I was about to jump out and help when she called she'd found it. It was spitting a bit here but luckily for us it soon passed. Thanks for the cache

Was in the area on a road trip ; as Lis was keen to find a trail of puzzle finds she had solved.
I noticed this nearby trad...and Lis didn't mind stopping, so I jumped out to find this easy one .
Thanks guys for the history here!

Today StreetWalkerNZ and I are heading up the Pohangina Valley to find the remaining unfound 20/20 caches and some solved Wildbore multis plus what ever else takes our fancy. Then the scenic route back to Palmy via (late) lunch in Feilding and a few other caches.
Watch out for the deep ditch near GZ. A quick find in the obvious spot. TFTC.

#21135. Left this one until after our trip up the side valley. It's amazing how many of these old school sites there are. Quick find here. TFTC.
Near GZ I widened my search area and 10 metres later the cache was found at the corner post.
A second full weekend in the area and with early Autumn temperatures preceding a (likely) week of rain I was keen to get out and about for a days local caching. mrs c works on a Sunday at the minute so after dropping her off in Feilding I had a 'plan' of heading up the Pohangina Valley on one side of the river then return back on the other. My over-ambitious pocket query had a great number of possible options, though as the day wore on, and the dust accumulated on the Tiida I reined myself back in a little. Was still a great day to be out, nice and sunny, hardly any wind, and a haul of 64 caches, with 6 DNFs. Thanks to all COs but mostly watcache and Mar1sa for their prolific offerings.

We decided on a break from farm work and to run some errands in Palmy so thought we'd pick up some caches today as well.
The cache was soon spotted.

Hard to believe a school (however small) was here before! A very quiet and peaceful place today. TFTC
Had the afternoon of work so decided to head out north of Ashhurst and do some walking on the gravel roads No 2 No 3 and No 4. Managed to find 31 caches, 1 DNF and 1 Did not attempt because of muggles. Not sure how far I walked but it was probably 10-12 km. Far enough for my legs to start feeling sore. Stopped for a few caches on the main road before the walk. Missed this first time looking but returned as it seemed the most obvious place for it to be and it was there. Thanks for the smiley.
Found by Blenheim Bear on a wee day out with Marisa after singing at the ANZAC parade at Linton Camp. Thanks for the cache all good today. Blenheim Bear
This should have been a quick easy find, but we missed it on our initial search. For us it was a few metres north of the coordinates. TFTC
This was the last of the Wildbore series to be completed and it seems to have taken a long time to actually get to it and sign the log Thank you for this cache : ) A very good use of the old memorial gates that were once part of the school .
Today, I am working on finishing the 20/20 series. This was another cache that I had to do along the way. TFTC.
Very quiet out here. Nice little water proof containers you’ve going on here. Quick find. TFTC
I was very impressed with the nearby bus stop with its memorial cross beam. Certainlyimpressive to see so many Spelman fight in the Great War, all of whom appear to have survived.
Thanks for drawing our attention to this old school yard. I was impressed with the cache container too. It seems to work well at keeping out the moisture. T. F. T. C.

#8689. Infoferret and I had planned to drive up from Wellington to attend the four Halloween themed events being held at Totara Reserve this weekend. So we were travelling around this road looking for puzzle finals and stopped to do this cache. Interesting to read the history of the local school. Hard to credit a 16 year old would be left in charge of that number of children. Different times it seems. The cache did not take too long to track down. The containers are doing a good job keeping the contents dry. Signed the logbook and returned the cache where found. Thanks Madge Family for hiding this cache for us to find.
Found during a busy day's drive in the Pohangina Valley with Yeetrees, agcnz and Tramper Ted.
A straight forward find, thanks for the history Madge family.

Up visiting the family who live nearby and went for a quick walk to find this cache. Only one car drove past as we were looking. Thanks for the cache

Today I was out caching with my son ThatWeirdGuy04 and one of my regular caching friends Stardust718, with the aim of travelling around the Pohangina Valley to attempt as many caches as we could manage in our day, concentrating on the Wildbore series but also stopping for any others along the way or else caught our fancy.
All logs for today were signed at either "Team S.T.T" or else simply "S.T.T" as space on logsheets allowed. The weather forecast had not been the best for today, but we set of in the hope that there would be enough dry spells or at least breaks in the rain to allow us to collect enough caches to be able to complete the Mystery at the Museum event currently running through Groundspeak. After about 8 hours of caching we had collectively found 46 caches, with a further 7 DNF's, which was sufficient to enable my son and I to complete MATM.
Absolutely no issue with parking for this cache. We were able to park close to GZ, and the cache itself was a quick find. The container and log were in fine condition so the log was duly signed and the whole thing replaced exactly as found.
Thanks for placing this cache.
I teamed up with ThatWeirdGuy04 and TwigNZ for a day of caching in the Pohongina Valley to work our way through the requirements for the Mystery at the Museum event. I'd looked at the Wildbore series when it first came out but hadn't had the chance to come out here and find them until now. We had a good day finding 46 caches in 8 hours between showers of rain. We signed the logs with our team initials - S T T or team STT depending on space. We were pleased with the condition most of the caches were in today so very little maintenance was required. The roads were however, rather narrow with the edge begin quite boggy so many of the caches we had to park away from and walk back.
Good parking here. This one was a quick find. The cache was in good condition, signed and returned as found.

Called here on a day drive from Wellington to find some more of the caches in the region. A quick and easy find for this one. Thanks for the cache and the interesting bits of history!
Another trip up Pohangina Valley to find some more caches, Thanks Madge Family for the cache,
Enjoying a trip around the country side with 2Bulbars and watcache, we signed the log BWX.
Thanks for the placement.
Thanks for the placement.
Saw this cache come live, and decided to hold off getting this one as we had a specific challenge in mind so toay was the day that we would come for a drive up into the mighty pohangina valley and do a maintenance run on our ones out this way.
Once at ground zero this cache was a quick find.

bit of a geocaching weekend for us and at times we joined forces with other teams so logs have been signed either 2 Bulbars, 2x, bwx depending on how many in the team had signed the log before.
The weekend started midday Friday and finished about 6 pm sunday. We didn't go too hard and stopped for sleeps and good meals basing ourselves in Feilding . The weather was good all weekend although it did rain a little bit at night.
Many thanks to all the COs who placed these caches making it possipble for us to enjoy our hobby.
I must say sorry for all the cut and paste but if we really enjoyed a cache I will add a bit at the start of the comment so you don't need to read right through.
Thanks to our driver who supplied the car and the good person who put a thermos and a few snacks in the car for us so we could keep our strength up

Mega trip! I made the long weekend into an extra long weekend by taking the Friday off too, with the main aim to get to Pohangina Valley. Never mind that the SH1 has been closed from very early morning indefinitely due to a chemical spill... I am stubborn and was going to find a way there, so I did! Nice we detour, TFTC!

Team BOP decided that with the MEGA rapidly approaching, we need to boost our numbers so we could try for a milestone number at the Mega. I am approaching my 3000th cache but was still about 325 caches away from that. Reaching the milestone may or may not happen, but this weekend certainly was about the numbers. I had an initial target I was trying to beat and that was my highest number of caches found in one day and we comfortably beat that, achieving 158 caches (subject to confirmation, once I log them all).
The best way to do the high numbers is with power trails and out here, there is a smorgasborg of powertrails.
We loaded up the van, gathered up all seven of us and headed to our accomodation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, getting there well after dark. The location was convenient, as it was right in the thick of a power trail territory.
There was no splitting us up, as we only had one vehicle, so we all experienced the cache locations, some beautiful and some not so.
As with powertails we have done in the past, there was a high proportion of waterlogged caches, but unlike powertails we have done previously, we managed to find every cache and were glad to be able to clear out an area. Also, with powertails, comes cut and paste logs, to which I apologise for.
Thanks to all those CO's who have placed the caches out there. Without you, our fun road trips wouldnt exist. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and got home completely shattered. It was so worth it.

Team BOP on tour in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region... With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro.
This weekend had been in the pipeline for ages. It was always going to be a mission for various team members to get coordinated leave passes... We secured accommodation in the rural heart of the Manawatu. This placed us well within reach of a massive trail of caches... We travelled in one vehicle, so our journey was filled with lots of laughs, and good times... Fortunately, the majority of caches were in place and were fairly quick to locate - thanks to straightforward hints and great coordinates. Many of the caches had not been found in a while, so containers were waterlogged, and logbooks were wet... Thank goodness for waterproof paper. A huge thank you also, to the various COs who made our weekend worthwhile...
This was quite tricky, as our cache senses were on the wane. We were surprised when the cache was pulled from an area we'd searched earlier... TFTC.

Road trip time again! This weekend Team BOP consists of Davidson Clan, TNXPro, Squirrelnutcase, FapAndGap, McJandals, NZFlossy & myself. We had a very narrow list of ‘must gets’ so this trip was essentially a numbers mission. As with these trips, most of the caches were found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and straight forward placements. We replaced some logs and containers but most had water proof paper and were all good. A huge thank you to the co’s as this was a beautiful area to visit and there was certainly an abundance of geocaches!!
Everything was fine here, TFTC.

Thanks.
First one of the series - fist time of many we were asked if we were ok by a passerby- it was heartwarming quick find and replaced as found. TFTC possibly signed as rrr&jj as was tag teaming with a fellow cacher.
Out with ritaryanandjj to knock off some of the Wildbore series. The first find today and no sooner did we pull up at GZ a dog walker came round the corner. After confirming we were ok we made a quick discovery before continuing on our mission. TFTC
Had a couple of dot-days to eliminate so decided another midnight caching run was in order and with this series having been published recently it looked like a good option. Thankfully the wet weather forecast for the evening didn't eventuate and there was plenty of moonlight. Having recently found #16 in the series at the current location of the school building it seemed like a good opportunity to visit the original site. Midnight was not long past when arriving at GZ and the cache was soon located with the bright moon providing enough light for all but the signing of the log. Thanks Madge Family.
Last of this series for us today, now off to Feilding to pick up a few more. Thanks for the series, a very enjoyable drive around today
this one took much longer than it needed, the car that I had waved too seemed to be dropping people off further down the road, I start taking photos only to see a heap of sheep being moved so I stood to one side while they came towards me and bottle necked around the car and fence while to dog got them moving again.
I had to wait a rather long time for them to be out of slight before making the find, I am sure they thought me to be odd taking photos over a long period of time of paddock thanks for the placement 3 to go

This morning's geocaching took us to the vicinity of Sanson first - hiding rather than finding caches, ready for our Winter Warmer V event on Saturday. But you can't go geocaching without attempting some finding and the nearest for us were over in the Pohangina Valley - but that's not far from Sanson , is it? So off we headed via Feilding (and a very nice early lunch), through Colyton and on to the Valley Rd to Pohangina, enjoying the attractive landscapes along the way.
We particularly like caches that give some interesting local history and Widlbore 1 & 2 certainly do that. Previously we have also studied the information and many photographs of Pohangina's early settler days that are displayed in the County Fayre tea-rooms in Pohangina Village. The Wildbore family and Charles Wildbore's photos feature prominently in that.
It was interesting to visit the original site of the old school, which we know well at Te Manawa Museum. It's good to see the site provides the location of one of the many little rural war memorials about the NZ countryside too - indicating the wide and devastating losses suffered by local communities throughout the country.
The find was quick and straightforward. Thank you for bringing us here Madge Family.

My Dad grew up near here so was pleased to see two new caches in the area. Nice finds on a damp day. Tftc. A favourite point for the area!
#10,197. {FTF} at 09:11 and first day find. We were staying in Palmerston North, so it did not take us long to travel to Ashhurst this morning, taking the route likely to be the reverse of the journey the schoolhouse took back in 1977. Our first time to visit Awahou South Road … learning the history and admiring the scenery as we went. GZ was all quiet when we were there. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Woke up this morning to find two new geocaches had been recently published but now that I have the Project-gc gemstone badge for FTFs, the pressure is off a bit, so I didn't fancy leaving my nice warm bed for an early morning jaunt. I was planning on heading up to do some more of the recently published Stickman series later on in the day, so decided to incorporate these two new caches into that trip.
I parked at the interesting school bus stop - nice use of the old memorial gates makes this a wee bit fancy! I know this old schoolhouse well from working at Te Manawa for a couple of years. Quick find here today - now onto the Stickman series. TFTC
