Parked about 120 metres from GZ as otherwise I would have got bogged. It was dry enough to walk to GZ though. Hard to imagine a school being out here but it is a gorgeous spot! Im glad its winter as I wouldnt have enjoyed reaching into the hiding spot otherwise!! TFTC!!

21-Jun-24
Checked on the cache now that the water level has gone down and its safe to walk or drive across. The cache was found in great order.

Great spot! Easily walked across to the island. Could have driven

More a matter of didn't attempt. Geo the puppy would've loved the swim, but not today for us. Thanks anyway Tritons

Came down for a look but can confirm it is still an island. Not as far across as some other photos show, but still no way to drive over. If it was January and not June, I would have wadded over, but alas too cold today. Will be back in the warmer months ahead. Thanks anyway The_Tritonz...couple of photos attached.

I finally got back to Tullaroop! Work had been a tough gig & I really needed some reset time. I paddled about 4km before deciding to head back towards Rodborough. This rock wasn't visable a few weeks ago but in previous years kayaking here, that rock is the peak of a whole island!! The water had been really calm but within minutes the wind & the waves picked up & I felt like I was in the ocean not a res. When I had arrived there were 2 fishing boats very close to the island but by the time I bobbed & ducked & fought the wind, they had moved on. I learnt my lesson from my last attempt & came heavily tooled up. Just as well I did!!! My big security torch & 2 of my thingyboabs came in very handy. There was an awful lot of pushing & pulling & wriggling but eventually, I had my hands on the log. I reckon the cache & it's hide were under water during the floods but the logbook is fine. Many thanks for the challenge & I'm sooooo happy this is still an island........

Really excited that this was an island again & I could kayak in. Nobody around tonight. I'm back in training for VPESG & did a steady 8.5km tonight straight after work. But I didn't find the treasure. There is a tideline where the water's reached but I'm not sure if that's the answer or just that the zillions of tiny but very bloodthirsty ants defeated me. Many thanks for placing this.

Damn, forgot the kayak. Tried walking but got too deep. Got the Reg Grundies wet for nothing! Another day haha

23-Nov-22
With the recent rains this cache is definitely sitting on an island now.

24-Jul-22
Found on 2nd attempt, too many muggles on our first try.

24-Mar-22
Youve gotta love getting out to the islands. Beautiful dusk at the moment with geaps of birds calling and settling for the night.

23-Mar-22
On way back to Maryborough from day’s caching. Decided to check the water level and delighted to see it was easily walkable. Container was pushed way back but retrieved with a stick and replaced carefully.

Found at 12.10pm. We drove close to this one then wandered across to the "island" Great views of the reservoir and the church nearby. M's walking pole came in handy to retrieve the cache. Replace in an easier to reach position.
Nice one.

It’s a DNF but only because I couldn’t reach it in the place it was positioned. Next finder needs to bring something long to extract it and bring it out of its hiding place.

13-Dec-20
Was told by my work to have Monday off from work so i turned that into 3 days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and I picked a spot on the map that I can not remember ever visiting so Marybourgh was the spot.
After finishing my walk around the town taking it all in such a great town it was time to fire up the Geocruiser and hit the back roads to find a few more
Came across the Tullaroop Reservoir followed the road around the back then headed towards the island.
The water was low enough and everything was dry so I could drive right up to and on to the island.
So the school was only used for eighteen years and you often why it was put the in the first place.
After a quick search I soon added my name to the log and now see how many I can find in my few days up here.
Thanks The_Tritonz TFTC

Wow what a cool site for a school, I wonder if they made the kids swim over thanks for the hide

Checked this one today as we passed by. Replaced ripped zip lock bag.

Found it today walking with muggle parents dogs. Dad found it first so he obviously needs to come caching with me all the time took nothing but left some marbles..... Log still dry all good.... TFTC

Found while exploring the island. With heavy fog in the area this morning, it was a bizarre magical place to explore. Thanks for the adventure and history

26-Jul-20
Despite it being Winter, the water level was low and the island easily accessible. Plenty of people about enjoying a 14 degree, sunfilled day, including me! It's a shame we can't access the old church. It would make a fabulous photo! TFTC

15-Mar-20
kenare and I went for a walk after our breakfast this morning to find your cache. We were surprised at how busy the church was. This is a really cool place even though we didn’t catch any fish. Tftc

15-Mar-20
Once we arrived here this morning we set up rods, cast out and cooked bacon and eggs for brekky. Each year we pick a different place and fish in the Pirtek comp. This year we decided to come here. I was going to attach a photo of the biggest fish we caught but it’s a scenery shot instead because we didn’t catch any fish at all!!! Lol. I think Sean.75 chose this spot because of the nearby caches. All was not lost for the day, I got stuck into reading a great book! Tftc

08-Mar-20
On my way back home from Maryborough and looking for a place to fish for next week, so I had to come here. You wouldn't know a school once stood here if it wasn't for the sign, and Geocaching of course. Impressive church across the way. Cigc. Tftc

Was camping nearby at Rodborough vale and ducked down this track to have a look at the old bucknell church (from a distance) and grabbed this “island” cache. Locals fishing nearby seemed unphased and we were out of sight for the find. TFTC

03-Feb-20
As soon as we pulled up here, the locals sitting by the water cranked their neck. And just stared. As they do. well, thought not much is going to look stranger than two of us heading off into the bush with a dog, so anikano sped off while i drove around and approached from the back.

A nice little place here and glad to see some water today. A lot less however according to Google Maps. A FP from me.

I have actually really started loving visiting reservoirs over the past few months. Can lead to some very scenic locations indeed. This was definitely one! Got a great Polaroid photo near GZ of the whole area. The weather was perfect, company was great and many caches were found. A FP for the scenery. Won’t be forgetting this stop any time soon.

After a delicious Australia Day breakfast with friends at the Post Office Cafe in Carisbrook, we dropped by here to find and sign this cache. We haven't been out to the Tullaroop Reservoir since before the latest caches were placed and it was good to see more of the local historical sites.

Thanks for find #1640

Definitely a fun detour out to 'the island' Big Grin
Easy drive and a short stroll took me to the little memorial Smile
The church across the bay was visible too.
Given the dates that the skool was here,
I doubt it was built on an island Razz

First up the dam wouldn't have been here while the skool was !!

So today it is just a fun cache find on an 'island' that only occasionally exists Big Grin

When we realized that this school and cache was in an Island, we didn’t think we had a hope in hell of getting here.
Therefore we Thought we would just have a look and bingo... the road currently is “dry as”.
So thanks for the cache and taking us to the only school site we know of on an island.

The reservoir looked full and inviting today and 2 fishermen around the bend obviously thought so too.
I was Maryborough bound but the caches were thick on the ground through here and this was the 4th around this body of water.
Many thanks Tritonz

Found with Explorer Nan on our way home from a fabulous caching day trip to Castlemaine in glorious spring weather. This was our final cache for the day and we nearly didn't go because we thought with the Reservoir so full, that we probably wouldn't be able to make it onto the island. But the lure of exploring an old school site (one of our many favourite locations) and the curiosity to just go and see anyway rewarded us with good access and a great experience. We loved the location, the view of the Res, and the history. Chunk nearly tripped over a bearded dragon that was sitting very still on the open ground, so well camoflaged though. Cache found in good condition. A perfect end to a fantastic day. TFTC The Tritonz and for bringing us here. Fave for the location and the history.

This is our fourth cache around the reservoir - what a voyage of discovery. Such interesting history about the school. Loved the bearded dragon - so well camouflaged. TFTC

Find #1992 for me. Found at 11:05 am while on an early morning trip to the area from Bendigo, taking advantage of being child-free to find some caches that required a bit of a walk. This was my ninth find for the day, or second-last out of 10 target caches. Wow, this is certainly a fascinating location! I left my car (2WD) in some shade on the "mainland" and made the short walk to GZ. Once there I made my way to the school sign. Amazing! I'd love to have seen it when the school was there but glad that the sign at least marks the spot. From there I moved on to GZ to make a quick find. I did have to be careful that the container was the only thing lurking in the hiding place, which it was so all was good! By now the day was getting hotter by the minute so glad I only had one more stop to make. Thanks so much for bringing me to this fantastic location The_Tritonz and thanks for the cache!

Find No. 2410. Found with FUF009 at 3.18pm

An afternoon drive to Majorca to grab the caches in the surrounding area with Geodog Penny on board and FUF009 came with us for the drive.

On our way to this one we spotted an echidna digging for ants. A bit further along we parked the van and took a short stroll to locate the cache. Penny loves these areas but unfortunately at this time of the year she has to stay on her lead as you never know what may be wriggling around.

TFTC. Back a few years when I (hans) was much fitter, I cycled along the Rodborough Rd on club events. I had no idea that this school was there. Drive up this morning to attempt a couple of caches on this side of Maryborough.Parked the car about 100metres from the cache, even though it was possible to drive a lot closer. A pleasant walk in the sunshine. Cache was quickly found, before enjoying the views across a much lower Reservoir than I remember.

This is one of the stops made as we followed a cache punctuated route towards the 6th annual St Arnaud Geo Weekend.
Perfect opportunity to add our name to the log, but very sad to see the resevoir so low for this time of year.

Thanks to 'The_Tritonz' for placing this cache on the geo-gameboard.

We have promised ourselves a trip to Talbot to cache and to have lunch at the amazing restaurant and finally today was the day. Not a particularly nice day but it didn't rain and lunch was indeed amazing.

Nice and dry today although we could see where others had become stuck. Lots of people out here, fishing driving about and caching.

Out and about today with Motndarg, we decided to visit the Maryborough area. While we had been to the reservoir before, I had never been over thIs side. Once we located the cache and signed the log I turned around and saw the impressive church in the distance. Thanks The Tritonz for bringing us here today.

Suscoe ventured up the highway today to Maryborough.
It was a lovely day to be out and about caching.
Sunshine followed us all the way, a cold start of 2 degrees finally ended up at 16 degrees.
The country looks fairly good at the moment but we suspect there is a need for good rains.
Thanks to The_Tritonz for this cache at this unusual spot. Easy access today.
We suspect the kids kept their fingers crossed for 100% capacity.

Heading to Maryborough today to catch up with becca85 and her crew for birthday celebrations and footy final losses! A detour was in order to grab a few extra caches. What a fabulous little spot this is. It's a shame the church is on private property and inaccessible and I'm sure there are some amazing stories behind it. But it is also amazing to learn about this old school. Crazy to this how it was way back when! Many thanks for the cache and highlighting a cool spot.

Sitting at my computer during these Covid lockdowns, I am trying to catch up on a few logs that I haven't sent in yet.

Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.

Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.

Sorry for the late log, something I am notorious for. Thank you for adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

Thanks The_Tritonz (F=13795 H=166) for the cache.

I have been to Tullaroop so many times but I don’t think I have ever been to this spot. It’s a beautiful spot for bird watching and a lovely view too. My daughter found this one first and was very pleased with herself. It’s almost dusk so that’s it for the day. But added 4 smileys to map so thank you.

Sitting at work this afternoon, I got the email alerts for this cache. Thankfully Thursdays are my early knock off day so with no logs by the time I had collected the kids (as well as muggle niece who LOVES caching) from school, we decided to head out.
Having visited here a few times before, we had a fair idea where the cache might be. We pulled up about 100m away due to giant puddles that my car dislikes and the kids were off while I was negotiated a safe area to park. They had it in hand quickly with muggle niece excited to spot it first and we were very happy to see a blank log.
There has been fisherman here each time I have visited previously but today the island was deserted. Hehe
The kids had a bit of an explore and we took some selfies before I dragged them off to the next potential FTF.
TFTC Tritonz!
