Clue is a little obscure, but worked it out, and there it was. Lid was off and fully soaked, restored as best we could, thanks to waterproof paper. Tftc
I took today off for an extra long weekend and have headed up to the Mighty Manawat to mainly grab some adventure labs, but obviously there will some other caches along the way.Stopped for the ad lab, ripped my finger open on a staple for my trouble. All good here and TFTC.Find #6365 at 5 February 2024 12:34 pm
Had to contend with some locals playing on the school play ground nearby...luckily the trees provided some cover for us to make the find.....Day 3 of our caching trip to Palmerston North area with HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev, and myself, signing in as SEAC or TEAM SEAC to save logbook space. A big thanks to all the CO's for cache placement and maintenance, making this trip the success that it was.TFTC.
Day #3 of the Team SEAC extra long weekend little road trip for Labour Weekend.GPS coordinates were a little off. It took us a little while to work out the hint but long arms did the trick here to reach the cache. Very cool little spot. Thanks for the cache.
A small group of us from Team SEAC consisting of Keylev, Stik-A-Crane, Uncle Sam and ourselves had come down from Auckland to spend the long weekend caching in the Manawatu area. The plan was to get as many as possible. Along the way we had some great adventures, many laughs, met some interesting people and found a wide selection of caches. Signed SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC.A day out today heading up to Apiti and then back down through Pohangina. Nice quick find here once we worked out the hint.
What a cool little school.Small group of caching buddies drove down from Auckland for the long weekend, and headed for Palmerston North area. Sorry for the generic posts, but we had so many caches to find.Had a great time, with so many laughs. Thanks to all the Cache owners who placed the caches. This was day 3 of our trip. All logs signed "SEAC" or "Team Seac"
HS suggested a day's outing to Pohangina, so today was the day. We had a delightful time visiting this village. I had never been here before. Tftc
I was last out this way 2 years ago for the same reason as today - dropping EtherGirl off at Camp Rangi Woods for Gangshow rehearsal camp.
With a bit more time up my sleeve today, TwigNZ and I managed to tick off a few more caches along the way.
We've dropped EG off and are now on to the next task of a trademe item pickup in Pohangina village (on the otherside of the river when the bridge was washed away earlier in the year! )
Once we figured out what the hint meant, I searched in a likely location and copped an unbedded nail in my nail bed for my efforts. I've now bent it out of the way, but that hurt enough for a word to be uttered that wouldn't have been appropriate if there had of been children around

Very damp and tatty. Replaced log with RITR log sheet in fresh ziplock bag. All good now. TFTC
came after work and planned to only find one cache but couldn’t resist and ended up finding 6

Skool's out for-ever, said Alice. Alice, Alice, who the cache is Alice? Found cache as per hint. Not sure how busy it gets here. Damp and tatty logs in container.
A return back to the Pohangina Valley today with a few mini-missions planned for the day. Primarily to enjoy the turning of the Autumn leaves on the trees as this area is one of the best to view that occurence. Next up is to find some more 20/20 caches after managing to get the solved coordinates for some I missed last time. (a final assault on the last few will have to wait until a future adventure). A return to some roads, and some new ones driven. Also, do the other side of the Pohangina river Valley road, and also extend out towards Utuwai, then return again along slim dusty roads. A good day to be out, 41 finds with 7 DNFs (some were probably me, some not). Thanks to the COs for their hides and maintenance, a special mention to watcache who will soon be my 5th most prolific hider, nice one. I took small notes on all finds today, incl changes of wet/destroyed logbooks.

It was all nice and quiet at the time of our visit - being a Sunday morning helped.
After hunting around for a small while we expanded our search area. Doing this paid off as Arcane Junior and I spotted it right away.
The boys wanted a quick turn on the playground before we moved on.

The day dawned dry and sunny, so whilst Mr Rubbishparty was at work I decided to cache near Pohangina. The school was very quiet today as it was the holidays, not sure how easy the cache would be next week. Cache all safe and sound. TFTC
Our first find. Took a little while but clue made sense and it was nice to have a seat once we found it
Took a little while to find this, thought about where I’d put it which worked in the end. A delightful little school, will remember this place next time I’m over this way with the kids! TFTC
While at a Freewheelers rally on a beautiful weekend I found this cache no problems, tftc it’s nice to be able to sit while doing the logging
I wasn't keen to go into the school, but since I had W.E.K.A. with me today I decided we should have a look for this one.
Didn't take too long to find.
Thanks.

A fairly quick find at this nice little old school. The hint had only limited possible applications, and we managed to work out the correct one. The cache was a couple out but we replaced it in accordance with the hint. Found with markhnz, TFTC
Thanks Madge Family for placing so many caches however I was not able to find this one
Not exactly a DNF as a muggle turned up to sit and eat her lunch at GZ so I chatted for a while then gave up...
Can I have a clearer hint??

Nice quick find by Tui who sat and felt around.Allgood. Very pleasant place to wander around while waiting for cafe to open for lunch. Thanks for the cache and for bringing us here.
Had a very nice Devonshire tea at the Country Fayre , and saw that this was nearby. Easily found but did not understand the hint. A pleasant drive in the country despite the drizzle. Thanks for bringing me here.
We were a little surprised to have to enter the school grounds here, but at least there were public toilets around here so we had an excuse to be here. Not sure how easy this would be to get if it had been a week day.
We weren't sure what the hint referred to but the cache was easily found anyway.
Thanks for setting this up

As noted by previous finders, the hint only made sense to us once we had located the cache. The GPS had us quite a distance away. Lovely pools - a stunning shade of blue that they are painted. TFTC

I teamed up with ThatWeirdGuy04 and TwigNZ for a day of caching in the Pohongina Valley to work our way through the requirements for the Mystery at the Museum event. I'd looked at the Wildbore series when it first came out but hadn't had the chance to come out here and find them until now. We had a good day finding 46 caches in 8 hours between showers of rain. We signed the logs with our team initials - S T T or team STT depending on space. We were pleased with the condition most of the caches were in today so very little maintenance was required. The roads were however, rather narrow with the edge begin quite boggy so many of the caches we had to park away from and walk back.
Fortunately it was totally quite on this wet Saturday afternoon. I was rather hesitant about entering the school in search of GZ but with no-one around we approached the area. After wandering around for a bit trying to find something, anything, to match the hint we randomly spotted the container. It was only then that we realised what the hint was referring to.

Today I was out caching with my son ThatWeirdGuy04 and one of my regular caching friends Stardust718, with the aim of travelling around the Pohangina Valley to attempt as many caches as we could manage in our day, concentrating on the Wildbore series but also stopping for any others along the way or else caught our fancy.
All logs for today were signed at either "Team S.T.T" or else simply "S.T.T" as space on logsheets allowed. The weather forecast had not been the best for today, but we set of in the hope that there would be enough dry spells or at least breaks in the rain to allow us to collect enough caches to be able to complete the Mystery at the Museum event currently running through Groundspeak. After about 8 hours of caching we had collectively found 46 caches, with a further 7 DNF's, which was sufficient to enable my son and I to complete MATM.
Even though there were very few people around today, this was one of those caches where we didn't feel entirely comfortable entering the grounds to go hunting for this one. But being the weekend, we decided to proceed, and after a bit of random searching Stardust spotted the cache. It was only after that that the Hint made sense. The cache was in fine condition so the log was duly signed and the whole thing replaced exactly as found.
Thanks for placing this cache.

Found today with the help of TwigNZ and Stardust718, thanks for the cache.

We didn’t understand the hint until after actually finding the cache, but other than that the cache is all fine

Well the hint made no sense until after wandering about a bit and then spotting the container. Suggest the hint could be more helpful in a playground situation. Fortunately all was quiet this afternoon. Thanks Madge Family for your historical research.
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 4 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more After doing the ZZ and RR Rods I came down to the village to meet up with Yeetrees.
I didn't bother with counting but just estimated it to be where it was.
Cheers for the cache.

Called here on a day drive from Wellington to find some more of the caches in the region. The first time I called I had to cut short my visit as a whole bunch of youngsters arrived. So headed away to get some lunch and when I returned the way was clear. I didn't understand the hint so just used my instinct and found the cache after a short search about 9 metres away from where the GPSr was pointing me. It was only then that the hint made sense but I don't think it would have been much use to me anyway. Signed log, thanks for the cache and the interesting bits of history!
On our 2nd day of our own mega weekend with Infoferret, Jude_E, and NosyNel - 2 North Islanders and 2 Mainlanders. After finding all the Shield caches yesterday we are now collecting others. Signed as JEN. TFTC. Apologies for the generic log.
JENI JudeE Ethness Nosynel and InfoFerret are heading home today. We completed the shield yesterday and now we are having fun on the trip back.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au
If you can't make Aussie. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland. I will keep you posted in my logs.
Thanks for hiding this geocache.

We are really not sure about this one. Looking where the gps says but really can't find. Hint is not making sense to us unfortunately. Will have to try again another time.
#10,645. Managed to find a parking spot not too far away on Finnis Road in Pohangina. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Found after a short search. The cache was in good condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

bit of a geocaching weekend for us and at times we joined forces with other teams so logs have been signed either 2 Bulbars, 2x, bwx depending on how many in the team had signed the log before.
The weekend started midday Friday and finished about 6 pm sunday. We didn't go too hard and stopped for sleeps and good meals basing ourselves in Feilding . The weather was good all weekend although it did rain a little bit at night.
Many thanks to all the COs who placed these caches making it possipble for us to enjoy our hobby.
I must say sorry for all the cut and paste but if we really enjoyed a cache I will add a bit at the start of the comment so you don't need to read right through.
Thanks to our driver who supplied the car and the good person who put a thermos and a few snacks in the car for us so we could keep our strength up

Today was our penultimate dot-day and so a trip into the countryside was in order to find some caches. Another late night excursion, however the weather was much improved from the morning's rain and there was a bright moon that made things a lot easier. Was a bit apprehensive about attempting this one so late at night, even though it had the 24/7 attribute. Soon twigged to the hint and managed to make the find with minimal use of the head-torch - even managed to sign the log by moonlight, although had to use 'All7NZ' to fit in the space provided. Thanks Madge Family.

Road trip time! This weekend Team BOP consisted of Davidson Clan, TNXPro, Squirrelnutcase, FapAndGap, McJandals, NZFlossy & myself. We'd had this trip on the cards for a while but only recently had we locked in all the details. We were off to central Manawatu and we had a very narrow list of ‘must gets’ so this trip was essentially a numbers mission. We had a great time and managed just over 200 finds. Most of the caches were found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and straight forward placements although we replaced a lot of logs and a few containers as well. A huge thank you to the CO’s as this was a beautiful area to visit and there was certainly an abundance of geocaches!!
It didn't take too long once we found something appropriate to count. I don't know if this would be a good day time, week day cache though?

Team BOP on tour in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region... With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro.
This weekend had been in the pipeline for ages. It was always going to be a mission for various team members to get coordinated leave passes... We secured accommodation in the rural heart of the Manawatu. This placed us well within reach of a massive trail of caches... We travelled in one vehicle, so our journey was filled with lots of laughs, and good times... Fortunately, the majority of caches were in place and were fairly quick to locate - thanks to straightforward hints and great coordinates. Many of the caches had not been found in a while, so containers were waterlogged, and logbooks were wet... Thank goodness for waterproof paper. A huge thank you also, to the various COs who made our weekend worthwhile...
An awkward place to visit in the dark... A good hint! TFTC.

Team BOP decided that with the MEGA rapidly approaching, we need to boost our numbers so we could try for a milestone number at the Mega. I am approaching my 3000th cache but was still about 325 caches away from that. Reaching the milestone may or may not happen, but this weekend certainly was about the numbers. I had an initial target I was trying to beat and that was my highest number of caches found in one day and we comfortably beat that, achieving 158 caches (subject to confirmation, once I log them all).
The best way to do the high numbers is with power trails and out here, there is a smorgasborg of powertrails.
We loaded up the van, gathered up all seven of us and headed to our accomodation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, getting there well after dark. The location was convenient, as it was right in the thick of a power trail territory.
There was no splitting us up, as we only had one vehicle, so we all experienced the cache locations, some beautiful and some not so.
As with powertails we have done in the past, there was a high proportion of waterlogged caches, but unlike powertails we have done previously, we managed to find every cache and were glad to be able to clear out an area. Also, with powertails, comes cut and paste logs, to which I apologise for.
Thanks to all those CO's who have placed the caches out there. Without you, our fun road trips wouldnt exist. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and got home completely shattered. It was so worth it.

Was in the Manawatu for work and since I was there I decided that I might as well pick up a cache or two while I was in the area. After finishing work in Feilding I decided that I would pick up watcache and go and check on the multicache that we missed out last night as there was another amendment to the cache page and the cache was looking like that it was in a much better location.
After a second DNF on GC7TYYD -Wildbore 22, two days in a row, I decided that it was time to go and look for another cache while we were in the area as I needed a cache for the day.
This cache was not too far away and after coming back out of the wetlands we decided that we might as well drive closer to GZ, arriving near GZ, I was very glad that the area was quiet and there was no-one around, the walk to GZ really didnt take long and then it only took a few seconds to click on what the hint was all abount and we soon worked out where the cache was going to be.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where we found it. Thanks Madge Family for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13700). An interesting spot for a cache, definitely a great spot to drive around in the daylight,
Now to head back to Feilding to drop off my passenger before heading off back home to Wellington. The Pohongina Valley area and views are so worth the trip.

I received the notification for the new multi At about lunchtime. As a little thing called work was going on, I couldn’t rush out to search but kept checking on it throughout the afternoon. Due to working a longer day yesterday, I could leave earlier today and when the first to find hadn’t gone, I decided to head out this way.
Stopped here before heading to the cemetery. Not sure about the hint but a quick find nonetheless. TFTC

We are loving this new Wildbore series placed in and around where my Dad grew up. Very happy to find a blank log book! [FTF].
We were in Ashhurst this morning, so easily tempted out into our favourite valley for a few new caches, including the possibility of FTFs. We just had time to go straight along to Pohangina Village and back, so only sought (successfully) the five new caches along that route, and managed two FTFs as a bonus.
We particularly like caches that give some interesting local history and so were delighted to see more caches come up in the Wildbore series. These caches are providing great insights into early European settlement in the Pohangina Valley. Previously we have also studied the information and many photographs of Pohangina's early settler days that are displayed in the County Fayre tea-rooms in Pohangina Village. The Wildbore family and Charles Wildbore's photos feature prominently in that.
It was great here to see the old school and grounds cared for and in use as a community playing and gathering spot - playground, tennis courts, swimming pool, bbq and picnic areas, indoor meeting spaces. So often we have come across old schools abandoned and going to ruin.
Today the playground was being used by a granddad and two grandchildren. We exchanged greetings, but were able to look for the cache because they were all soon absorbed - the children in their play and granddad taking photos of them. We didn't understand the hint, but the cache was quite quickly found nevertheless, with some shrubbery shielding us nicely. TFTC
