Took a bit longer due to the man walking his dog nearby so took a little drive. Good to know there are public toilets here. TFTC
A small group of us from Team SEAC consisting of Keylev, Stik-A-Crane, Uncle Sam and ourselves had come down from Auckland to spend the long weekend caching in the Manawatu area. The plan was to get as many as possible. Along the way we had some great adventures, many laughs, met some interesting people and found a wide selection of caches. Signed SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC.A day out today heading up to Apiti and then back down through Pohangina. Nice quick find here.
Day 3 of our caching trip to Palmerston North area with HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev, and myself, signing in as SEAC or TEAM SEAC to save logbook space. A big thanks to all the CO's for cache placement and maintenance, making this trip the success that it was.TFTC.
Day #3 of the Team SEAC extra long weekend little road trip for Labour Weekend.Phew quick find. Thanks for the cache.
Small group of caching buddies drove down from Auckland for the long weekend, and headed for Palmerston North area. Sorry for the generic posts, but we had so many caches to find.Had a great time, with so many laughs. Thanks to all the Cache owners who placed the caches. This was day 3 of our trip. All logs signed "SEAC" or "Team Seac"
This is our last physical cache for the day, just the 3 labs to finish here and if we have counted correctly we will have reached triple digits for the day. Time to go and find some food now. Thanks for the cache Madge Family

Unfortunately this was our last physical cache of the day - very hard leaving so many behind here but its been a long day, we were getting hungry and I still have work to do. . TFTC # 20,196
Another little beauty found on our outing to Pohangina. Thank you for bringing us here.
After completing the nearby lab cache I had to find one ‘real’ cache to make it feel like I am really doing a streak. Easy find. TFTC.
I'd had a look for this one three years ago without any luck, so wandered down from my camping place on a rare warm and sunny day. This time I was armed with some photographic evidence, supplied by a friend.
Actually it was a pretty straightforward find. Not sure why I didn't find it last time. Maybe it was pretty overgrown then?
Anyway it was good to be able to eliminate yet another blue face from my geocaching map.
Thanks for putting this here

I was last out this way 2 years ago for the same reason as today - dropping EtherGirl off at Camp Rangi Woods for Gangshow rehearsal camp.
With a bit more time up my sleeve today, TwigNZ and I managed to tick off a few more caches along the way.
We've dropped EG off and are now on to the next task of a trademe item pickup in Pohangina village (on the otherside of the river when the bridge was washed away earlier in the year! )
I was watching the GPSr's map and looking out for the street intersection while the needle swung round to behind us and the distance started increasing. Oh! It's only a paper road!
Parking up, we walking to GZ and soon spotted a UPR that indeed gave up the goods

Spent the last week camping with the family at Totara reserve. Had an amazing time, but wasn't able to get much caching done. Had a DNF at the glow worms and placed a cache of my own not far from our camp. We grabbed a few caches heading back to town, not too many as everyone is tired. Tftc Madge family

Hmmm, bison pushed into soil under stone. Interesting.
A return back to the Pohangina Valley today with a few mini-missions planned for the day. Primarily to enjoy the turning of the Autumn leaves on the trees as this area is one of the best to view that occurence. Next up is to find some more 20/20 caches after managing to get the solved coordinates for some I missed last time. (a final assault on the last few will have to wait until a future adventure). A return to some roads, and some new ones driven. Also, do the other side of the Pohangina river Valley road, and also extend out towards Utuwai, then return again along slim dusty roads. A good day to be out, 41 finds with 7 DNFs (some were probably me, some not). Thanks to the COs for their hides and maintenance, a special mention to watcache who will soon be my 5th most prolific hider, nice one. I took small notes on all finds today, incl changes of wet/destroyed logbooks.

Woohoo! A nice and easy find this time around. We haven’t been having much luck here this morning in Pohangina. TFTC!
Enjoyed an afternoon exploring the Pohangina village and surrounding valley. Sadly half way through my pen stopped working hence the photo. Usually carry a spare one in the car but not today. Quick find here and cache all fine. Thanks Madge family for the smiley.
Trees are absolutely stunning round here at the moment, gave us a good excuse to stop and take photos! TFTC
First place I looked for a change, thanks for the cache, I’m having fun in Pohangina this weekend
Finally!!!!! After I don’t know how many attempts. TFTC and thanks for the new log sheet WEKA.
Fortunately the hiding spot was clearly marked, making it a fairly quick find, although the cache was buried deeply in sand. The log was sodden so we replaced it with a small waterproof sheet. TFTC
Thanks Madge Family for placing so many caches however I was not able to find this one
Today I was out caching with my son ThatWeirdGuy04 and one of my regular caching friends Stardust718, with the aim of travelling around the Pohangina Valley to attempt as many caches as we could manage in our day, concentrating on the Wildbore series but also stopping for any others along the way or else caught our fancy.
All logs for today were signed at either "Team S.T.T" or else simply "S.T.T" as space on logsheets allowed. The weather forecast had not been the best for today, but we set of in the hope that there would be enough dry spells or at least breaks in the rain to allow us to collect enough caches to be able to complete the Mystery at the Museum event currently running through Groundspeak. After about 8 hours of caching we had collectively found 46 caches, with a further 7 DNF's, which was sufficient to enable my son and I to complete MATM.
This was one of the caches today that proved to be a quick and easy find at GZ. A quick sign of the log and we were back on our way again.
Thanks for placing this cache.

I teamed up with ThatWeirdGuy04 and TwigNZ for a day of caching in the Pohongina Valley to work our way through the requirements for the Mystery at the Museum event. I'd looked at the Wildbore series when it first came out but hadn't had the chance to come out here and find them until now. We had a good day finding 46 caches in 8 hours between showers of rain. We signed the logs with our team initials - S T T or team STT depending on space. We were pleased with the condition most of the caches were in today so very little maintenance was required. The roads were however, rather narrow with the edge begin quite boggy so many of the caches we had to park away from and walk back.
Nice quick, easy find here thanks to the hint which made it obvious. Log and container all good so signed and replaced.

Located 30 caches in the Ashhurst-Pohangina region on a “day out” caching today. A straightforward find. #2551. TFTC.
A straight forward find. Again, thanks Madge Family for the interesting history about this creek. We had Catherine Knight’s book “Wildbore - a photographic legacy” with us in our car. A favourite added for your historical research.
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 8 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more I decided to come back to Pohangina to finish what I had started yesterday.
I like these types of finds.
Cheers for the cache.

Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au
If you can't make Aussie. New Zealand will have another large event in 2020 in Auckland. I will keep you posted in my logs.

#10,501. Another enjoyable trip to Pohangina, retracing the history showcased in this series. Fortunately GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Relatively quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Afternoon drive up to Pohangina to find some more Wildbore caches. Quick find. Thanks Madge Family for the cache.
Today we were looking for our 200th cache, so what better for this milestone than a Wildbore cache. We are really enjoying this new series on our back doorstep. A simple find after waiting for a solitary runner. Tftc.
I was travelling up this way, well sort of in that dierection, to drop off grand child for a few days, and i thought i should try to locate another 1 or 2 of these caches leaving another couple for trip up to pick up said grand child. this one was quite straight forwward but not quite so the other which was very devious.
thank you for this newish set of caches although very surprised that you have to get info from a lib. or purchase the book to answer the questions. In earth c aches you must either present the info on the cache page or it is accessible at the G Z.
thank you for the smiley face the other will have to wait until i get the book from the lib, long waiiting list!

Today my grandson and I visited Pohangina and had our lunch here while waiting for the shower of rain to pass. While we waited, the local wildlife was present in abundant numbers..pukekos,parakeets,ducks(with seven ducklings),chaffinches, blackbirds, and even a pheasant, who walked in a leisurely fashion across the road right in front of us!It was all quite entertaining! When the rain had gone, and our lunch finished,we got out of the L/R and went to the GZ where my grandson soon found the cache. At not quite four years of age he's pretty good!We wrote the log and then re-concealed carefully and retreated to the vehicle and moved on.TFTC!
A new day, just, and the final dot-day for us so headed to the next cache on the list. There had been a reasonable amount of rain in the past 24 hours so decided to avoid parking on the grass nearby, which meant pulling over to the very edge of the road just past the creek and hoping nobody would come along the road. Turned out to be another quick find and, given the time of night in the middle of the week, there was nobody else about. TFTC.

What a glorious early summer-like day to be travelling up the beautiful Pohangina Valley - wonderful views of rivers and valleys and hills, and snowy tops on the high Ruahine Range. There was hardly anyone about. We felt like we just about had the whole valley to ourselves.
We are aiming to complete the 250 Finds in September Challenge. There is nothing handy for us still to seek, so we need to travel further - but the Pohangina is reasonably local. We went to Pohangina Village first, then Beehive Creek and right on up to Piripiri and Utuwai, seeking the rest of the Wildbore caches, as Mrs G had now completed working out the multis.
Cache #3 for us today. This one was a fairly quick and straightforward find with a helpful hint. TFTC

Road trip time! This weekend Team BOP consisted of Davidson Clan, TNXPro, Squirrelnutcase, FapAndGap, McJandals, NZFlossy & myself. We'd had this trip on the cards for a while but only recently had we locked in all the details. We were off to central Manawatu and we had a very narrow list of ‘must gets’ so this trip was essentially a numbers mission. We had a great time and managed just over 200 finds. Most of the caches were found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and straight forward placements although we replaced a lot of logs and a few containers as well. A huge thank you to the CO’s as this was a beautiful area to visit and there was certainly an abundance of geocaches!!
Team BOP on tour in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region... With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro.
This weekend had been in the pipeline for ages. It was always going to be a mission for various team members to get coordinated leave passes... We secured accommodation in the rural heart of the Manawatu. This placed us well within reach of a massive trail of caches... We travelled in one vehicle, so our journey was filled with lots of laughs, and good times... Fortunately, the majority of caches were in place and were fairly quick to locate - thanks to straightforward hints and great coordinates. Many of the caches had not been found in a while, so containers were waterlogged, and logbooks were wet... Thank goodness for waterproof paper. A huge thank you also, to the various COs who made our weekend worthwhile... TFTC.

Team BOP decided that with the MEGA rapidly approaching, we need to boost our numbers so we could try for a milestone number at the Mega. I am approaching my 3000th cache but was still about 325 caches away from that. Reaching the milestone may or may not happen, but this weekend certainly was about the numbers. I had an initial target I was trying to beat and that was my highest number of caches found in one day and we comfortably beat that, achieving 158 caches (subject to confirmation, once I log them all).
The best way to do the high numbers is with power trails and out here, there is a smorgasborg of powertrails.
We loaded up the van, gathered up all seven of us and headed to our accomodation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, getting there well after dark. The location was convenient, as it was right in the thick of a power trail territory.
There was no splitting us up, as we only had one vehicle, so we all experienced the cache locations, some beautiful and some not so.
As with powertails we have done in the past, there was a high proportion of waterlogged caches, but unlike powertails we have done previously, we managed to find every cache and were glad to be able to clear out an area. Also, with powertails, comes cut and paste logs, to which I apologise for.
Thanks to all those CO's who have placed the caches out there. Without you, our fun road trips wouldnt exist. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and got home completely shattered. It was so worth it.

A quick drive out to Pohangina for a cache for International Geocaching Day. I’ve got a busy day today with a birthday party for my nine year old niece, so can’t make the event so out early to grab a cache for the souvenir. The creek in heavy flow today so if Wildbore was still around he’d have lost his photos in the torrent of water coming through.
The bank was very wet and a bit slippery so a sure footing was required so that I didn’t end up in said creek as well. Cache was a quick find. TFTC

Was in Palmerston North for work and after finishing work in Fielding, after finding GC39H33 - Beehive Creek Walkway (Manawatu), I decided that it was time to start making my way back out towards Feilding.
As I was heading in I noticed that there was a couple of caches along the way and was advised by watcache that I should have a look if I had time, this was one of those caches, as I was making my way along Pohangina Road, I soon spotted this cache again.
Decided that since I was passing by I might as well give it a go, I managed to find a parking spot not too far from GZ and from there it was a very simple and easy walk back to GZ, once at GZ I soon spotted the usual Geo trail and follow it to the most obvious spot and soon spotted something that required a bit more investigation, so spotted the cache.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where we found it. Thanks Madge Family for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13721).

We are on another road trip and this time its from home to Masterton and return taking in a lot of the back roads around the area on the way back as we had more time to spare after attending the CITO at Henley lake in Masterton. our first adventure off the main road was east of Masterton and we found it very interesting as we planned to go through Mauriceville then head back to Ekatahuna. the road was good and wide for the campervan but in most places we couldn't pull off much but as the traffic was very light it wasn't a problem.
On our way back through Ashurst we got a phone call from Watcache inviting us to join them up to this one and as we had seen it earlier we took the chance of a joint {FTF}
many thanks
we still have many more to get up here

(FTF) JOINT we saw this one had come out late last night but due to work commitments we couldn't go get the traditional cache until after work, we thought we had no chance of getting it, but off we went anyway we arrived at ground zero and the location was obvious due to the hint. it was a quick find here at 4.47pm we signed the log and placed it back exactly where we found it. Thank you for placing another cache out this way, its always a pleasant drive out here, no muggles when we arrived but as I was about to sign the log a runner went passed, again i probably looked very strange so I said hello and he replied and carried on his way. now off home for some tea and geat company.
