After a great event last night the weather was turning and I considered driving home, but hey I drove all the way out here, might as well stay the night and see how this morning was going to be. It certainly started of wet, but still doable for caching. Made my way from Goulburn to Yass via a lot of detours. On my way back home now, again picking up loose ends.

After a solid Christmas break it is time to head to Goulburn for a event duo of a CITO and an Event Dinner. I headed off after lunch time to take a very non direct route collecting a few caches on the way via Bugendore, Tarago & Windellama. I found a few fun roads that needs lots of work, and on one back road there was a dam a meter deep of the rolly poly grass across the road, a little odd. After reaching Goulburn I collected Fitzy_1965 and we went for a few local caches including a few fun pole caches. The Rain called an early end to the COTO and we all moved on to the event for dinner.

The grounds were closed today, but as the cache is outside and was found once some grass was cleared to see what was down there, log signed and time to head to Goulburn.

Thanks for the cache GLISS!

#475 After camping up in Kangaroo Valley for the weekend it was time for Turtle284 and I to head home. Given the landslides on the mountains our regular ride home was met with a long detour. That gave us the opportunity to pick up a fair few caches we hadn’t been passed before, so we weren’t at a total loss.

Now that we’d passed through Neriga, there didn’t appear to be any caches on our downloaded section of map until we hit Windellama. So after turning off towards Goulburn we pulled out and headed back to find this one. I homed in to this one pretty quick, sadly the container was full of water and the original notepad log book was unable to be written on. Luckily someone had left a really well sealed drop down log. After draining the container out a bit we returned it and we’re on our way. Thanks for the cache out this way GLISS!

Found I have also put a new peice of paper in in a ziplock bag but is not good against whether as it has a few holes in the bag.

13-Dec-21
This one took me a bit of time to find as there was a bit of traffic along the road. Unfortunately, the container was full of water and the logbook very wet. I dried the container out and left the logbook in the sun for a while to dry so the first few pages aren't too wet now. Many thanks for the cache.

After exploring a couple of 4WD roads nearby, I finally drove to this one for a simple find. The old hall is still looking good- I bought my first 4WD here at one of the field days, many years ago.

Water in cache and log a little damp but should survive.

Ooshie swap day! Whilst the eldest spent the morning with mates swapping these little fellows at the two nearby Woolworths I found myself with a few hours to spare. Weather was nice and sunny, still a bit cool, but perfect to hit a few of those not so nearby caches that had originally eluded me, recently been published, or had not enough time to make detours out to find.

It didn’t start well, Mt Fairy FM not received. Gave it a good shot, but just couldn’t pick up a beep. Rolled onwards in and around the hills, dusty dirt roads a plenty, picking up a few smileys here and there, mostly there. Back onto the Tarago series, where a few of those early missing containers had been replaced. All found bar one, missing again it seems.

Had planned on an earlier start than I actually got, but not really complaining about the extra two hours of sleep I must of needed. Just means I’ll need to make a return trip out this way, sooner hopefully rather than later. Made it eventually back to town just in time to ready the eldest, this time for Soccer. A good solid 3 zip win.

Apologies for the generic log, any specific details added at the end of log. TNLNSL TFTC

On the 1st Aquilus1 and I were supposed to be first day of a three day adventure going deep into the Heart Of Darkness.... all the way through NSW to Bogan Shire to claim a multitude of counties... but (and there is usually a but) unfortunately I no longer had three days available, just two. So, last minute change of plans was for us go to the coast and go north, and see how we went. I even solved the only puzzle on the road before leaving.

So.... it ended up being a great loop, clearing out the road from Bungendore to Nerriga and going on to claim about a dozen shires. Clearing out an area is always slow going, but we were methodical... No Cache Left Behind as dubya would have said, despite the constant rain.... at least after Nerriga it was more a trip to claim counties than to clean out the map.

Late on the 1st we remembered that we should eat, probably before everything closes... luckily we found a Thai place in Berry that grumpily let us in while staring at the clock.... no mind! The food was great. Frantic internet searching looking for a motel then ensued while waiting for our dinner... all was well, we had fine lodgings awaiting us in Kiama.

On the 2nd the rain was looking like it was going to set in for the day as well, but we soon realised it was the fog that was going to be our nemesis.... it was unbelievable and downright scary... glad I wasn't driving! But, in the pea-souper, we somehow missed our turn to The Shire and ended up near Appin, no mind, we can continue in this direction.

Not sure I can even remember all the councils we passed through and grabbed a cache or two in, but here goes:
Queanbeyan-Palerang,
Goulburn-Mulwaree
Shoalhaven
Jervis Bay
Kiama
Shellharbour
Wollongong
Wollondilly
Campbelltown
Camden
Liverpool
Fairfield
Canterbury-Bankstown
Cumberland
Strathfield
Canada Bay
Burwood
Inner West
Sydney
Woollahra
Waverley
Randwick
Bayside
Georges River
Sutherland Shire
Wingecarribee

I guessed the wrong side, but soon fixed!

With GreyHams we had planned to head out for a three day trip into NSW for some counties, all the way to Bogan Shire! We had 14 counties on the route but a change of plans meant only the two days were available so plan B had us heading towards the coast and up towards Sydney.

All a bit of a last minute change but all good, GreyHams had a plan! Off we set, we had 5 counties on the list and would see how many more we had the time for. The new route had us driving up towards Bungendore to Tarago and then across towards Nerriga to Jervis Bay. A good trail of caches and we searched for them all, a few DNF's but mostly a successful trip through with a variety of caches found and some really great locations visited.

The rain set in about Nerriga, light and steady, and we both ended up more than a little damp at times, super fun when looking for a cache in the wet bushes! Mostly we cleared a nice path along the way with a few caches down some side tracks, a few puddles to play with along them and the only Mystery along the way... Well thanks to GreyHams for knitting that one out!

Stopped in Berry for a nice Thai dinner and then on to Kiama where we stopped for the night.

Woke to more rain but continued on North stopping at each county along the way for a cache and anything else interesting. Thankfully the rain did end up clearing... in its place there was the thickest of fog to navigate through, no worries about that on the Motorway with the traffic and almost no visibility!

Slightly turned about in the fog we did end up off track but worked out well in the end with a new course set and off to conquer the counties along the way into and around Sydney. A surprising 25 counties visited in the end, much more than expected but happy with the result and a good couple of days away to do it in. Thanks to all the CO's for your caches, apologies for the generic log, any additional cache information has been added to the end of this log.

Good parking here and a quick straight forward find, we both guessed the wrong side.

A busy weekend of activites interspersed with caching. Yesterday started with 6 caches requiring a kayak, finishing with today's event. Then it was caching my way to a 5 hour night rogaine. Slept in the back of the car then up early this morning caching my way to Kowen Forest for some MTB orienteering, followed by some more caching by mountain bike.
Easily found. TFTC.
