Logs
Co-ords slightly off but easily found. Difficult to open the container due to rust. TFTC
Cheers again for the find pic for proof since we didn't have a pen with us. Rookie mistake!
Muggles appeared at just the wrong time. First on the retrieve a family of walkers made their slow way past and then on the return a cyclist made a quicker pass by. Had to feign an interest in the blackberries while I waited although there really weren't any worth eating here. TFTC
Taking advantage of spending another evening in Upper Hutt, I decided to get a bit of fresh air after work by taking a stroll along the Hutt River Trail from Totara Park towards Riverstone Terraces. The weather was actually a lot calmer than I was anticipating after some of the gusty weather we'd had earlier in the day, and I ended up walking about 6km all up.
Arriving near GZ, it was pretty clear where the cache might be. I did have to wait a minute or two for some muggle cyclists to bugger off from petting the nearby horses, but once gone I was able to easily get to where I needed to be and make the find.
I've often wondered if the CO means to get rid of these simply by putting them out as caches and letting oxidisation do the rest, but in this case the container was actually in reasonable nick. Once the log was signed and the whole lot replaced as found, I was soon back on my way.
Thanks for placing this cache.

No luck today.
Hmmm, and electric fence and horses behind it, and quite likely the tree I was after too!

Was a beautiful hot day today, so decided to go for a ride / walk along this pathway. Ezratar managed to slide on the sand and came off his bike so we dumped it back in the car and walked the rest of the way. Both Mycro Man and Ezratar stopped every few metres to pick black berries and then move on, so the walk out took a lot longer than the walk back. Thanks for the cache. Not sure what everyone is referring to with electric fence.. There was only some ropes surrounding the "paddock". Ezratar petted the horses right by the cache.
Starting in Totara Park this was my favourite cache so far. Will give it a FP. Thanks for placing the cache
Found out later that if there are no horses in the paddock then the electric fence will have been turned off. So much for being careful! Easy find with @peadub. Signed log and replaced where found. TFTC.
Luckily there was no one about on the trail when I was ducking under the fence to quickly grab this one, and no horses to avoid either! Sometimes being shorter is a good thing. TFTC
Easy find. Be respectful of the horses. Advice to come back when they are not in there
After having found a couple of caches up Beech Spur Road, we hooned down the hill to find the 4 GROET caches that for some unknown reason we didn't realise were here up until now.
Took a while for the GPS to settle and after going under the fence it was a quick find and things were surprisingly dry for this type of container.

TFTC needed a bit of help from the previous finders for this one as wasn’t sure if we were allowed over the fence line or not.
Navigating on my phone meant I wasn't quite sure where GZ was. I checked some previous logs which said behind the electric fence! No horses in there today so it was no problem to duck between the wires and make my way over to the obvious place. All nice and dry in its hidey hole. TFTC.

On my previous trip along this walkway last year, I couldn't attempt this cache as a couple were erecting what seemed to be a temporary fence. However, it seems it isn't temporary after all.
I didn't feel that comfortable about rolling under the fence but I had walked a fair way to get here. The horses came over to see what I was up to but they seem very docile.
I can't have many more GROETs left to find now.

Found on a cycle trip up from Melling on a lovely fine day along the magic Hutt River Trail. TFTC
#7368. I was working at home today and it was a glorious sunny day outside. By mid-afternoon I decided it was time to nip up to the Hutt valley for a short walk to pick up a few more caches and complete my work tasks when I got home. Really enjoyed the walk along this track in spring like conditions. Lots of birdlife with the skylarks soaring and singing overhead and rock pigeons and sparrows enjoying all the seed and chaff being fed out to the horses. Arrived at GZ and it wasn't anywhere easily accessible. Left just one possible option and so it was into commando crawl mode. I am extremely wary of electric fences at present having had muscles torn off my shoulder by a bone thumping electric fence in North Canterbury. After surgery on my shoulder 6 weeks ago I didn't want to get another electric shock. But found the cache without mishap in a logical spot. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks GLAD-NZ for another in the GROET series. Cheers GSEL
GZ is currently protected by an electric fence but it was built to keep horses in not gnomes out. Quick retrieve before the horses returned.
One of 18 caches located today on an enjoyable bike ride along the Hutt River trail (mostly) from Upper Hutt to Pomare Station. Took a while to find this one. Was it ’within’ the rabbit burrow? Didn’t appear to be. We were close to giving up when I thought I’d try crawling under the electric fence to check one last spot. Hit the jackpot there! #2489. TFTC.
#10,669. Nice walk in Craigs Flat, Upper Hutt. GZ was all quiet when we visited. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

Thought I would do a few caches today and saw this trail. Nice Easy finds TFTCS (Thank You For The Caches)
Find #2934. An epic day of cycling and geocaching in the Upper Hutt Region, attempting to capture as many remaining Traditional caches as possible to clear the map. Started at Petone, catching the Wairarapa train with the bike, for a pleasant 25min and inexpensive $6.50 journey, alighting at Maymorn Station. Cycled some 40km in often 26 degree plus heat, returning to Petone via the general route of the Hutt River Trail but with many deviations. Particularly enjoyed the upgraded sections of cycle trail, smooth asphalt where once there was gravel.
An easy side trip by bike. Chose to get the furthest first and work my way back. SL TFTC

(# 4873). Today I decided to get some caches around the Totara Park area. It was a nice day for a walk but I decided to go earlyish before the heat of the day. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC
Staying with family for Christmas I am no a mission to grab 25 caches before the end of the year to reach 365...plotted this evenings walk to make a dent in that task. The area was taped off for grazing so had to tie up dogsbody crawl under tape to grab this. TFTC
My last GROET on Craigs Flat. Three days in a row to this area. I bought my mountainbike this time because this one is a little further from the end of the road and I was in a bit of a hurry but I wanted to clean these ones up.
I came out here for a look on my way home from work. I had the bike in the car so I came straight here from the train station and rode up the River Trail to GZ. Lucky it was casual Friday at the office and I had my jeans on!
The cache is in good condition. All nice and dry.
Thank you

Was in Upper Hutt for work, and needed a cache for today. Decided that since I was in the area I might as well check my GPSr and see what cache was around so that I could pick up a cache for the day and after having a good look I soon settled on this cache as it wasnt too far from where I was.
Have being looking at this cache for quite some time as I have already picked up the first two of this series of caches here and there was still to left here to pick up, so decided that since the weather was being nice to me it was time to come here and pick up the rest of the caches that were along here.
After finding GC7XDCF - GROET#41 (Craigs Flat), it was time to go and pick up the final cache that was along this walkway, decided that since it was less than 400 metres away, it would be silly not to go and get this cache as well.
The walk to GZ was really didnt take too long before I was soon at GZ, I was GLAD that the electric fence at GZ was not live otherwise it would have being a bit of an issue to get to GZ. Once at GZ,it still took a few seconds to find the very well hidden cache, even though the co-ordinates were accurate it was very well hidden.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where I found it. Thanks GLAD-NZ for placing another GROET cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13931). Definitely GLAD to get another GROET cache off my list of unfound caches.
Was GLAD that there were no muggles around, now it is time to make my way back to the car and then to my next appointment. Was really enjoying the chance to finally get to stretch my legs and enjoy some nice Wellington sunshine.

Last Groet for today but not the last cache as I proceeded a little further to do one which is not related.
As with #39 the area is at least temporarily fenced off, possibly ready for horse grazing but I felt more comfortable about approaching this one because there was an open gate.
A quick easy find.
See my log on #40 concerning Craig's Flat.

Last GROET for the day. It sure helps that these are evenly spaced on a easy to walk track. Had to duck under a bit of tape for this one but all good. TFTC.
We encountered a small problem with this one in that GZ had been surrounded by a temporary electric fence and a couple of horses were quietly grazing there. However there is non so foolish as a cacher and ducking under one electric tape and stealthily stepping over the other the cache was soon in hand. Did a repeat to return to its hiding spot and left. Found while attending the MEGA with Flowerydaze. Nice walk on a lovely afternoon, many of the horse fraternity had the same idea but fortunately the cavalry were quite a distance away and saw nothing and we retraced our steps back to the car. TFTC
Another quick find while out and about with Talla64 during the Mega Event in Upper Hutt. Lots of horses and riders about, but they did not see what we were up. We had a very pleasant walk to find the caches along Craigs Flat. Thanks for all the placements.
Here is a private message I sent to the cache owner a few week's ago:
Regarding GC7XDCB: GROET#40 (Craigs Flat) –
Hi I note that you have three caches described as being in Craigs Flat. This is incorrect. Craigs Flat was the area now known as Riverstone Terraces. In 1915 a Mr Craig occupied this land - see https://uhcl.recollect.co.nz/nodes/view/21867. Before Riverstone was developed the elevated "flat" could be clearly seen from Upper Hutt at river level.
The Upper Hutt Recollect site has further information about Craigs Flat.
That aside thanks for the caches - now that the days are warmer I will probably go out soon and find them.
