Well my trip up to QOGM started a couple of weeks ago and after taking the very indirect route up to outback QLD to get there. So after cruising up the Hume to Sydney then the M1 and A1 up to Byron Bay with a few other roads in between as I have been cris crossing a bit so after heading west and making it to Longreach time for a break from the travelling. So after a couple big days out to Stonehenge, Isisford and Ilfracombe, The Tritonz and Roaming Howie finally joined me and we did the puzzle trail. Then a fun first muster day to Muttaburra and back then a great tea event and a few more caches.A trip to Stonehenge and back again for so now a new day.The second muster day and boy what a busy day as there was a lot going on in the car with everything we had to do.Collect trads, look at photos, find some forks and then some property numbers as well. The Mexicans as we were called teamed up with a couple of other cars The Morris and Pool Pool to have a lot of fun over the radio.Well all the caches have been found and after another great dinner event QOGM has officially finished. This was my first one and I had a great time, but all good things must come to end and today I had a big drive ahead of me to my next accomodation which was Ilfracombe as Im staying at the pub just to tidy a few things up.Roaming Howie and I headed to Barcie for the day and we are on our way back to Ilfracombe to finish up for the day.Just a few back along the Hwy to finish off the day. Thanks Liz and Bruce & artesiancacher TFTC.

Day 22. A last minute plan had been hatched to make my by way to QOGM. Very little planning had been done but a very rough outline was in place and it was going to be a day by day trip.We sadly said goodbye to our fellow team mates The_Tritonz after celebrating Ms_Tritonz birthday, and I set off for a day caching with posums in Barcaldine.A nice quick find here on the way to Barcaldine. Thanks Liz and Bruce for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Are you planning a trip to Victoria? Outnabout for some solo caching while camping in town overnight. We’re taking the roundabout route to QOGM 2023 at Longreach. It’s always a great day for caching.
TFTC Liz and Bruce

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria

And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 142. Barcaldine Day 1. With no pressing targets in mind today, I decided to do a day trip to Longreach, so I could visit a few caches and say I drove that far as well as went on the train. A short stop at Illfracombe on the way home made for a fun day out in the warmer than the last few days.

There was a parade of caravans heading east on the road today. I managed to get over the road into the dried mud to find this one without any further problems.

Thanks for the cache Liz and Bruce

After having a very pleasant night in the Council Camping area in Muttaburra which we thoroughly recommend for anyone passing through our main aim was to clear up the caches around here that we missed on our last visit before making our way to Longreach.

When we read the cache name, we thought , no way there can be only one RoddyC. We then read a bit further and were proven wrong as there can be another RoddyC and Liz and Bruce found it.
We pulled up near gz and were very dubious on our walk to it as we weren't sure how soft the ground would be after all the recent rains. Happily it supported us all the way there and back .
The container was spotted a couple of meters away sitting safely nice and dry which was a bit of a wonder as the top of the lid isn't in very good condition at all but the contents were still bone dry.
After adding our name to the log we returned it upside down with a little modification so hopefully this will keep it going for a bit longer.

Thanks Liz and Bruce for the cache.

01-Jul-21
Well, this journey started about 12 months or more ago, skip 2020 and we find ourselves planning a long-overdue road trip. This means one thing ... a cache run would be involved. One or two different routes where planned caches were studied, some more than others (manly puzzle styles), and a plan was hatched.

It includes the most number of puzzles we have ever solved personally, Wherigo's, and even a few 'FTF' (FTF) FTF caches. The distance that was driven is approx. 3500 km. Over some 10 days. 14km of muddy, red, and black soil 4wd only slip-sliding heart-pumping road - which we got through without incident only to get bogged a while later on the side of a tar road doing a U-turn.

The total number of caches found is yet to be determined, could also depend upon my logging them, as those who know me also know my lack of logging or length of time to do so could mean the correct total will never be shown. Still, it’s not about the numbers.

Logs have been signed with any one of the following, JABs, FWBs, TasReach, MEMO, or TR. Often depended upon who was signing the logbook, time of the day, length of the days caching run, sleep-deprived state, condition of the logbook. Penned often in the first available spot (except in the case of new cache), in between other cache's names. Hopefully to help extend the life of a logbook. The date was not often recorded, again to save room and maybe a little time.

Distance travel is undetermined, basically, fly from Hobart to Brisbane, drive northerly to Gympie, out through Gayndah, Monto to the Westwood, and then turn west straight out to Longreach, with a part-day layover to collect all those 92 solved puzzles. Home is hopefully via Jericho, south through Mexico and into Blackall then down and cross to Roma, Toowoomba Brissie and fly home.

Meeting up with great family friends of ours to share part of this journey MEMO, the cache name TasReach or TR for short was born, been both Tasmania and Longreach. So wished each cache could have its own story, but in that case, I would never finish logging. So I thought a long story was better than a TFTC. But hey thanks for the cache anyway.

JABs.

Day 9 of my outback adventure, today travelling from Barcy to Winton and Longreach.
After a few last minute caches to find in Barcaldine, I hit the road to travel further west and had this cache as a target for today. I overshot the mark on this one and decided to park up on the other side of the bridge. A lady who was driving a small truck pulled up next to me to check I was ok, very thoughtful. I gave her the nod and she took off, but then pulled up just ahead of me. She jumped out of her truck, grabbed a towel out of the back and used it to grab a dead roo by the tail and drag it off the road. Only in the outback!
Back to the cache, a quick find here, log signed and cache replaced as found.
Thanks Liz and Bruce and artesiancacher for the cache.

Today was the fourth day of my little journey to outback Queensland. While I’m not in a hurry, I do have a list of caches that I do want to collect along the way and probably some extras as I see fit. It won’t be hard to continue my challenges of a trad a day and a cache a day challenges for the next few days, I am also hoping to pick up a few new challenges along the way and some target caches too.

My plans today were to grab a few caches again in Tambo then head up to Blackall and start a few around there. But with the rains here I could only grab a couple, so I decided to head to Blackall and leave Tambo for another time. I got to Blackall and it was raining just as bad and in between the rains I got 1 or 2. I could see the rain was clearing out west further so I headed to Barcaldine hmm everything was wet and it seemed as though another band of rain had come in while on the drive up. But wait, there was blue sky to the west. Looking at the map it was only 100k’s to Longreach, so I headed to Longreach, the roads were wet and flooded in places, but I was getting blue sky as I pushed on. As I passed a couple of caches I grabbed those only to find the dirt was now mud and super sticky, I was even sinking at a few stops, but in 4wd the dmax just eat the mud up and drove out, something about “go your own way”
Finally in Longreach and I had enough time to grab four caches and then turn around and head back to my original plan of being in Barcaldine for the night so as I could back track after the rains. A long day of driving but a rewarding one just the same when I collected “Endurance”, I think it is appropriate for today’s efforts.

Grabbed this one on the way to Longreach, a bit of a mission in the mud but i got it, lol.

All good with this cache and with it found and log signed I returned it as found, thanks for placing it here, I enjoyed the drive today.
