#4180 Today is day 32 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I'm driving west to get some geocaches in Taranaki region. I was only going to just cross the border and grab some park and grab. After lunch at Whanganui, I decided to drive all the way to Dawson Falls just to see if I could get some good pictures of Mt. Taranaki. Found it! Easy one. The adventure lab at this location was not that straightforward. RAYZR, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on November 1, 2024 @ 16:12:37[GC7YAG5] Power To The Mountain (Taranaki) was a D1.5/T1.5 Small Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
This was a great find! Really enjoyed reading about one of the first instances of green electricity
Visiting from Sydney, my sister took me for a drive up here. The one a bit higher up was proving a bit hard on my aging legs for the final rock scramble so retreated down the mountain and came to this which we would have targetted anyway. A nice quick easy find with the hint, though after signing had to wait for some muggles who had arrived to go outside and look at the sign before popping it back. Thanks RAYZR for the hide.
Happy to have made a detour for this cache, just to see the location! Thanks!
I have the week off work so have come up to Taranaki for a couple of days or so for caching, tackling the Forgotten Highway and hopefully finally knocking off the E174 challenge that I signed some years ago.A straightforward find, pity I couldn't get the light to go.All good here and TFTC.Find #6530 at 19 March 2024 12:15 pm
Found it today together with Laira007 on our Taranaki Tour. We have a very nice 30 second view to the mountain without clouds. TFTC
Our road trip continued and we went from Stratford to the Tongariro National Park. But first we visited Mount Taranaki. Then we took the forgotten highway SH43 - really amazing views and finally reached the Tongariro National Park where we stayed in a hostel. On our discovery to tour at Mt Taranaki we also came along this spot and looked for the cache. We could find the hiding palce easily and signed the logbook. Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache.Happy hunting!TFTCschnuckel1[#24169]
A nice quick find, at a piece of electrical history. Thanks for placing your cache. Ms_KR and I are on the road again, up "North" to visit family and friends. Today we cruised around South Taranaki and up to Dawson Falls. Another lovely summers day too.Occassionally signed MK+KR on cache logs, and apologies for the generic logs. Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.
Nice and easy find.Make sure you put it bake correctly.Thank you for hiding.

Day 15: Through the Forgotten WorldTodays journey was a challenging one, leading us through the Forgotten World Highway through to Stratford and onwards to the Taranaki Region. We were sidetracked by the closure of the Tarangakau Gorge for most of the day, so we detoured through some back country roads in the rain. Truly an adventure, and not without a few caches despite the desolation of the landscape around here. Thanks for all the caches that made this adventure even more interesting. (End of the cut and paste bit)Heres the specific log for this cache:A relatively quick find here as there were no muggles around. The cache was much further up than I expected and I had to look up to see how high my arm had to reach to grab it. Thanks for highlighting this interesting artifact here and providing a cache to boot. TFTC!
We are staying in Eltham Taranaki with a cousin I have never met before. We were lucky enough to be chauffeured around various places and picked up a few caches. Great to see this mountain so close up. Thanks for bringing us here to find the cache.
Weekend getaway succesfull! And Mt Taranaki showed himself a few times. Beautiful area!Tftc

Great cache in a really interesting spot. Weather was pretty horrible today but we got out here as part of our school holiday adventure of the Taranaki. Thank you for the hide.
Nice to find a couple of caches while staying at Konini Lodge. Interesting spot and information/history here. Tftc
Found with spate while staying at Konini lodge for 2 nights. A great place to visit. Dropped TB. Thanks for placing the cache
It’s FriYay! A nice arvo to nick up here and take a look at this location before the snow comes and makes it harder for me to get up here! Such a cool spot!! No fresher water around! And freezing too. Interesting info here on the board that we learnt a thing or two about and a nice hide too! Thanks for placing RAYZR
A super short stroll off the path and we found ourselves here! I was too scared to go near the rush of water under the grate but trayc.g was fascinated about it all and even made me touch the water and tried to get me to drink it even!
After we read the sign board we signed the cache. Good spot to hide it. TFTC

Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are currently parked up at the NZMCA Park in Hawera … decided we’d go for a drive out to the Dawson Falls Visitor Centre & pick up the DoC Kiwi Guardian, an Ad Lab & a cache or two … this cache was easily found, the area being ‘muggle’ free at the time, log-book completed & safely returned … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,430 for us!
We are spending a long weekend in New Plymouth. Started with the Dawson falls loop and the Wilkies pools. Perfect weather not to warm and almost wind still. Interesting to read about the power station. Used my own flashlight to look inside the building. Cache was easily found. Thanks for hiding.
#3,936: Powerful Find!I came to this one with my sister and brother-in-law who are visiting from the US. I flew up from Chch to meet them, and have a spin around the Naki. After visiting the falls, we stopped by here to see the history. Pretty cool the way they have done this place up!SL/TFTC!!
Not a cloud in the sky this morning so took the opportunity to explore the area. A quick find thanks to the hint!

Great history and location.
TFTC! Good spot for a cache. Took nothing, added a couple of small things.
With sveppi, and my parents (Alouette955) who are visiting from Canada. I had a geocoin I picked up in the South Island over Christmas that I needed to drop off. So after doing the Wilkies pool and Dawson fall loops we stopped by this place and since I had not found this cache before I grabbed it. Cache in good condition, TFTC.
Cache Nummer 35 in Neuseeland! Cooles Versteck, endlich mal etwas anderes und nicht nur unter einem Stein an einem Baum. TFTC!
Exploring the mountain today. Picked up the cache while visiting the power station.
Heading up to New Plymouth with BFG for a weekend out of Wellington. Final day of the trip, so starting to head for home. But today was a great weather day, so couldn't resist a chance to head up the mountain, collect the adventure labs, and enjoy the view. This was an added bonus, a fascinating bit of history, especially where it started its working life! Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

Infoferret found this while I was distracted peering into the hut. What an awesome old machine, could just spot the armatures and brushes. Loved the water egressing under the path too. Thanks RAYZR ️
Lovely area to explore. It's definitely worth the trip. Wilkies pool an excellent family walk with spectacular scenery
Such a cool little power station! Wouldn't have even known it was here without the geocache
Thanks RAYZR for placing this cache in the cool powerhouse!

What an amazing history and to think it could be the oldest continuously operating power generator in the world.
