My first solo caching trip. A long one down the entire length of the Sturt Highway. TFTC
Find number 14539 at 12:21:55pm on Saturday the 26 October 2024We're on our way to WA Goes Big, travelling from Croydon (Melbourne, Victoria) with a caravan in tow and making a leisurely caching holiday across the Nullarbor and back.Well, WA Goes Big is done for another year and we are on our way home again now, via Perth, Kalgoorlie and the Nullarbor but slowly over the next five weeks Today I was up early to chase an FTF and a couple of other significant caches before returning to camp to get the misses out of bed Well, she's finally up and we're on the go again checking out Renmark and surrounds.Bloody flies by the billions around here, my arms are swinging like a lunatic monkey **Thanks for creating this earth cache NationalSteel**---*WOW, so much happening at home in Victoria*Dont forget to log your will attend for Victorias first ever Block Party in March 2025, the [**The Sunbury Event**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).Theres also all those lists of amazing geocaches at [Geocaching Victorias List webpage]( https://geocachingvictoria.com.au/information/great-caching-lists), go check them out.
Found while heading out to Renmark and surrounds to do some caching along the Wandering Hero's Series and to see what other interesting sights we can find. TFTC
Spending a few days in Renmark and spending some time caching as well, stopping to complete this earth cache. Impressive rock. Answers sent to CO. Thankyou for bringing us to this location.
Found by The Empire + HAs we continued along the southern road, the landscape opened up to breathtaking views of the Murray River far below. The road wound along the cliffs, and from our vantage point, the river shimmered in the sunlight, snaking its way through the valley like a ribbon of silver. The sheer limestone cliffs stood tall and weathered, their pale, rugged faces dropping steeply down to the waters edge.Every so often, the trees would part, offering uninterrupted views of the river, framed by the ochre-toned cliffs that added a striking contrast to the lush green vegetation along the banks. The cliffs, carved by millennia of river flow, revealed layers of history in their sediment, reminding us of how the Murray has shaped this land over time. Not far from the jinker display, a massive rock caught our attention. This large boulder, weathered by time and the elements, stood prominently in the rest stop area, its surface etched with cracks and ridges that told a silent story of its ancient origins. It seemed almost out of place, yet at the same time perfectly fitting in this rugged landscape. Answers sent, thanks for the cache NationalSteel.-MEarthcache #444
Found on our 14 day road trip through south east South Australia and into the Victorian central west. We also travelled towards Mildura for the PS Series. It was sometimes wet and sometimes windy, but always enjoyable, especially while finding caches. This was our second last day of holidays and our only EC of the tripTFTC
Out exploring the Riverland and stopped here to view this basalt rock. Answers sent. Enjoying this part of SA. Thanks for the Earthcache.
After a week of caching around Adelaide incorporating The Great Leap Forward event, HansandLinda, MeandDe and I are working our way towards Canberra. At Paringa for a couple of days of rest and maintenance. We had a couple of target caches today at MacCabes Corner and grabbed this one on our way back to camp. Another great day for caching. Out and about collecting more smilies. Signed with Leap mega team nickname BOLD7. Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache.
Continuing on with my South Australian caching tour and the mad collection of caches in the state. I am again part of the BOLD 7 team doing the mad assault on as many caches as we can. We tested out the MG yesterday and dirtied her up, she handled it well. Today it is to finish off the mayhem of the On your bike series and the few in the area as we pass.It may be a late night back as the plan is to also grab a cache or two on the way to Remark before heading back home. There is so much to do and in such close proximity, I am going to have to come back again.Just need to make sure we stop for food and fuel, must have happy campers for the travels. Am loving the area and the countryside, will have to come back at a different time and experience this state.Along the way we grabbed a few oldies, caches yes and a few that were just there for the fun, oh and the occasional multi, lol. Thanks for setting up these caches and maintaining them. All caches were signed as BOLD 7 and replaced as found. The generic log signing is to save log replacements. This was part of our group assaults', we left the answers to be sent in by the team secretary TeamARF.
BOLD9 having a fab time in Adelaide and surrounds. Lots of laughs and some brilliant inventive caches.!thanks to all the COs Andrews sent by TeamARF for the team
Good time for a pit stop after making our way through the fruit fly stop. Wasn't sure if the authorities would consider Qlders as vermin and we'd be pushed back to Victoria. This could have started a diplomatic incident with the flood gates opening and hoards of Qlders breaking loose and heading south, drinking everything dry in their path.Common sense prevailed and the South Aust authorities reluctantly let the BOLD07 back even after I nearly ridiculed the hire car we were driving which just so happened was the same car the inspector had as his personal vehicle. Awkward but the lovely ladies gave the inspector alluring smiles and were ready to leave me there.Answers received by the CO on behalf of the BOLD07. Thanks NationalSteel for making the pit stop worthwhile.
GC7YAHW Renmarkable BasaltA group of us are down from Darwin and Brisbane in preparation of the leap year event.Today was day 2 of hitting the bike series and heading east. To save space in the logs signed as the BOLD7. Was meant to be BDLD7 but something got lost in translation. Answers sent in by TeamARF. Interesting area. TFTC NationalSteel
How very exciting the big trip has finally arrived! Down from Brisbane with a host of other geo friends with plans aplenty, enough to almost see us needing to extend or make a return visit. Our geonick for the trip is BOLD7 which is guaranteed to save the log paper for the 7 individual members of the team. As we make our way around sadly there wont be time for the usual individual logs and therefore just the old generic log will have to do. With little extra notes here and there if needed. Thank you for your cache which has added to my wonderful caching holiday.
Tftc National Steel, stopped here on our way to Renmark after entering SA. Gathered the information required after examining the rock. Also liked the other artifact here

Find # 10314Day 4 caching friends to complete our epic On Your Bike series adventure. Picking up some counties, oldies, and other specials along the route to add to my tally and to stretch the legs. This was a quick and easy find and here at Renmarkable Basalt today. Always fascinating to stop and observe how our natural environment came to be. Thanks so much for the many caches NationalSteel and of course for giving me a reason and incentive to get out here, and to experience this part of the world in a different light
Well my whirl wind tour of 5 states in 3 weeks has started and after reaching the SA border it was time to locate a cache or 2 as I won’t be doing that much caching on this trip as I’m with muggle friends.
So this is my third cache of the trip and a nice spot to pull over to get out and stretch the legs and also with the van in tow there is plenty of room as well.
A nice view over to towards the Murray River and an interesting jinker near by as well.
After studying the rock I worked out what was required and answers sent to the CO.
Thanks NationalSteel TFTC.

Southern Autumn adventure Day 50. Mid North section of SA trip Day 21. Mount Barker 1. Today and the next two days are really transitional to me getting to Mildura in time to do the Paddle Steamer with friends from Canberra. In the meantime I had a day around Mount Barker area today. There was light rain on and off, but it was not much of a problem. I tried to find the multi's I worked out the numbers for yesterday and had a load more caches on the list that went from smoothly to very problematic. I had to skip a whole section as the only access road we being re-surfaced. It was a long and quite difficult day at times, but with that comes a sense of achievement with what was found. I finished the day with dinner in the pub in town and had a great night !
I have done a few caches in this rest area before, so a close look at the rock was overdue. I was going the wrong way and had to stop over the road. Answers sent.

Just realised it is International Earthcache Day - am travelling through South Australia so drove into this spot to look at the big basalt rock, gather some info and get it logged. Will post answers to the questions tomorrow morning. Thanks for the cache, an interesting spot with some nice interpretive signage and views. TFTC
A lovely sunny day so BettyBoo3747, the geodoggies and I traveled from Lake Boga to Renmark to start our holiday. Collected a few caches on the way when the mood took us, and a couple of AdLabs.
Did this drop off the truck as it was coming from the quarry?
Why was it really placed here?
Thanks for the earth cache, it is an interesting rock.
Thanks, Robmc.

#19713. Day 2 of our holiday travelling between Lake Boga and Renmark. Gathered up 16 caches and 2 AdLabs along the journey. A lovely sunny day that got warmer every hour. Last stop on the way. Rob took a couple of great photos of the rock with a brilliant blue sky and the moon. We decided on what might be the correct information and continued on our way.

Recently visited this striking piece of rock with geo friends on our tour in between states. It was well worth the stopover and is a great example of what was mined at Stoney Pinch Quarry near Renmark and placed at this location for interested travellers to view.

After a big day previously (335 caches), we were all fairly exhausted, so we ticked off the last of the On Your Bike Series and made our way to Renmark, and a FTF. On the way we found selected caches like this one.

Early in 2021 I received an invite from GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to join them on a caching trip to the Mega in South Australia. As planning got underway some caches with high Favorite points, very old caches, and the On Your Bike Series were listed as "must-dos"
The trip ended up being 10 days of solid and very enjoyable caching with quite a few highlights. The find count for the trip was around the 950 mark when all GCA, Adventure Lab, and GC caches are included. The high point for finds was a day of 335 finds in the one day, which would have been more, but a sudden storm put the end to caching for the day. No one was interested in getting out of the car to find a cache in a downpour in the dark
We were lucky enough to find Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin's Cache, and my favorite for the trip Barossa High (From 21st of January 2001 with the original log book still in place) all in the one day.
Unfortunately, the caching around the mega was beset by bad weather and the day we had put aside for Mount Gambier was scrapped due to a covid case in Mount Gambier on the previous day, so we avoided the area. We all enjoyed the Fishing series and just managed to get the remaining of these before the light failed for the day.
In the end I managed to completed my D/T grid for the first (and possibly the second time) which was my aim for the year, although some of the D/T combinations were not really achievable in Tasmania without a 3 day overnight bush walk.

The Millicent Mega trip had been a long time in the making, for the Tassie trio of stainless steel rat, budgietas and gooseandegg, due to a couple of false starts thanks to COVID19. More and more caches were added to the extensive list as planning was being finalized. We focused on old caches, large caches, certain D/Ts, virtual caches, the On your Bike series and a few other special ones on our journey. Our route saw us caching in Adelaide for a few days before heading north via Gawler to the Barossa in preparation for the On your Bike series, whilst basing ourselves at a gorgeous cottage in Waikerie. We continued on to Renmark for a night before the long trek south to Millicent.
Some of the many highlights along the way were Gawler Fort Knox, Dustin’s Cache, Barossa High and Riverland (the oldest surviving geocache in South Australia).
At the Mega we caught up with a few of our caching friends, made some new ones, and of course missed many who could not make it this time. The weather was not the best in Millicent, and a COVID19 situation in Mt Gambier altered our plans but we had plenty of caches to keep us busy between showers, including tree climbs, plenty of adventure labs, and the entertaining Finding a Fish series - giving the new pole a good workout for the first time.
Thanks to all the CO’s who have placed and maintained all these caches that made our adventure so memorable.

Even with the numbers being down it was great to attend a Mega and at least get to meet some fellow cachers after so long and catch up with a few people, we flew over from Tassie on Thursday and after spending a few days in Adelaide we headed Northeast to clean up some series and then head South to Millicent for the start of the Mega long weekend.
This trip has changed so many times since it was first booked and I'm glad we got to do it at long last, to start with it was just myself and GooseandEgg nipping over for the Mega and then it was a few more days with the addition of 1 toolman, then with lockdown it was back to two of us but then another Tassie cacher in the shape of BudgieTas stepped up to the plate and we were back on for an over a week trip to grab a few caches before the Mega and then finish off with Millicent before flying home on the Tuesday.
Thanks for the cache.

Found it with team FATZ! Full log to follow.
AG27 sent off answers on behalf of all four of us.
After months of planning and puzzle solving and working around Covid restrictions, team FATZ (Fox in Jox, AngelG27, TikvaNZ and ZQX) got away for some caching. We made full use of the Queen's birthday long weekend (thanks Liz) to find about 200 caches. We left Canberra at 0530 on Friday morning and returned to out nation's fair capital 3.5 days later - just after sunset on the holiday Monday. We achieved several caching goals, and knocked off a few DT loops each. Wherigo caches in SA were the staple diet but we picked up a few other types as well - a few multis, ALs, trads, puzzles, 3 ECs and a large, 5.0/5.0 LBH. We all notched up new counties too, filling out that map a bit. Fox did a lot of the driving but AG27 and myself did a bit to give the man a break. For me it was the best weekend of geocaching ever. The first time I got more than 100 in a day. The first time I hit dark green on a grid cell in the D/T grid. Getting to over 200 in all columns and rows of the D/T grid was another achievement.
I was impressed with the "On your bike series" in SA. A huge amount of work went into that, and I want to express my appreciation to the people involved in that. I bet the people of Loxton, Swan Reach, Berry, Barmera and Renmark are wondering where all the extra tourism is coming from. We sure contributed to the local economies of the area.
Somehow my friends put up with my bad jokes and other foibles. Somehow I managed to stay sane despite persistent pen clicking. Several crosswords were completed on the fly, and many packets of snacks were consumed. Nobody fell out of any trees, there were no vehicular hiccups, and there was hardly any rain. Only 2 DNFs to keep it real.
Thanks for the EC, NationalSteel.

Road trip! At fairly short notice, TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox, ZQX and myself decided to head west from home in the ACT to South Australia this long weekend to tackle some of the On Your Bike wherigo series and other interesting caches along the way. We only have four days, so we are being fairly selective.
Today is the day we pick up a few more in the Bike wherigo series, along with a few others along the way, and then start heading East. Unless otherwise indicated, all caches found easily in accordance with the hint .
Found this on our way back east. Answers sent to the CO!

As we drove from Renmark to Mildura today, we stopped at the site of this Earthcache. Our first reaction was that "that rock is not basalt" as we are used to seeing black or very dark grey basalt in Tasmania. So we found this earthcache most interesting, Answers to the questions have been forward to the CO. Thanks NationalSteel for a most informative earthcache.
This earthcache was found during a week long geo vacation, spanning Victoria and South Australia, with the company of several awesome geocaching teams ??
All logs were stamped/signed as The Mob. For the Mildura leg of this geo vacation "The Mob" consisted of GoodLook, The Drovers, FurfacesLL, Rapidlywild & myself. With feathertop joining "The Mob" for the SA leg of the geo vacation.
I thoroughly enjoyed my time with this fab group of people and meeting new friends ??
The Drovers emailed the required answers on behalf of our group.
Your effort in setting up and maintaining this EC is greatly appreciated ??

For the first time in a long time, it was road trip time. With COVID-19 keeping everyone at home for so long, the borders were finally opening and the feet were itchy for a decent caching trip. Plans were made with FurfacesLL to do a 10 day road trip across to Mildura and Loxton to do a heap of caching and we were excited. Across the 10 days we racked up over 4,300km in driving, multiple hotels/motels, brought home enough red dust to create our own sand pit in the back yard and collected over 1800 finds between us. It was a massive trip and lots of fun was had.
We teamed up with GoodLook, FeatherTop, The Drovers and LiB and signed most logs as "The Mob". There were a few caches which were signed as individual team names as some teams had already completed said caches, those will be noted individually.
Our target caches were the Turtle Series, the Paddle Steamer Series and the On Ya Bike wherigo Series, heaps of other caches were also collected along the way but our primary target caches were completed which made us all very happy and very tired geocachers.
Onto day 4 and it was time to make our way from Mildura across the Vic/SA border towards Loxton which would be our base for the next 5 days. We picked up a few caches along the way, travelling along the way was GoodLook, The Drovers, LiB, FeatherTop, FurfacesLL and myself.
As a group we discussed the questions and a combined solution for wach answer was produced. The Drovers did the honors and emailed the CO on behalf of us all so thankyou for that . A lovely large piece of basalt rock which really shows the granularity and colouring produced within the region.
Thanks for the Earthcache NationalSteel And thanks to "The Mob" for a trip to remember [^].

A plan was hatched with Rapidlywild to attack some of the caching trails down in VIC/SA.
With the boarders slowly staying open we thought Easter might be a safe time to try since the QLD boarder was still too fragile to attempt going to the MEGA and it also looked like it could be rather wet there.
The group grew from two to six quickly after having a chat to GoodLook about our plans.
Our team “The Mob” now consisted of GoodLook, LíB, Rapidlywild, The Drovers and ourselves and feathertop joined us on day 4. This team ended up being very productive and some new friendships were made. Always a bonus in my book.
All logs were stamped with “The Mob” to save space and time.
Day 4 it was time to head to Loxton to start on the On Your Bike trail. All puzzles in this series were solved prior to the trip.
This cache was found on our journey from Red Cliffs to Loxton.
Nice place to explore and read the information around here. The Drovers sent in the answers on behalf of our teams today. Great place for an Earth cache to break up the trip.
Thanks for the Earth Cache NationalSteel and for the fun "The Mob"

Answers sent in by The Drovers for our group and permission gave to log. An interesting earthcache for us to explore whilst passing through this area.
Most of the caches are stamped as The Mob (consisting of The Drovers, LíB, FurfacesLL, Rapidlywild, and myself), however a handful contain our own caching names or initials.
2020 was not a great year, and the beginnings of 2021 have also been tricky - so when it looked like the various borders would be open again (without quarantine restrictions), a trip was spontaneously planned and I was able to pull together a number of my caching friends who hadn't cached together before to form "The Mob".
LíB and I started in SA, drove to Victoria and ended our trip in SA; FurfacesLL and Rapidlywild came from Canberra and The Drovers began their journey from NSW; and then a few days later, feathertop from Victoria, joined us to complete the On Your Bike Series and other caches in SA.
We filled our days with piling in cars, hard core caching, Adventure Labs, crazy funny CB radio chatter, some laughter, some tense moments (OMG some of the ladder and tree climbs on this trip were crazy!), lots of lovely meals and even live music from a band called "Kung Fu Jesus" - nope, that is no joke.
We had hot weather each day (well into 30s), so I am thrilled that I now own a car fridge to keep the drinks icy cold (loving them at about 1 degree celcius).
A sincere thanks to NationalSteel for this earth cache.

We found it very interesting and thought it was an worthwhile location.
Many thanks for placing this earthcache, NationalSteel, for us and others to find.

Logging using the assumption they got them correct!
So we did it, we took the plunge and early last year made arrangements to sell our little hobby farm in South Gippsland and ‘do a big lap’.
No full lap is complete without a lap of the little island first.
So after tidying up our affairs and putting everything into storage, we celebrated Christmas with our families and hit the road.
We recently spent 7 magnificent weeks in beautiful Tasmania, then we just did a quick trip down the west coast of boring old Victoria, making our way to South Australia, crossing the border before Covid strikes again.
Looking forward to slowing things down as we spend time in SA with no return date planned.
Thanks for being one of the CO’s who supplied us with a cache to do on the way.
This one was most enjoyable.

Moving from Adelaide to Brisbane, jesswrigley and I decided to drive the long distance to make the opportunity a holiday, taking 12 days and passing through Victoria, New South Wales, and then finally arriving in Queensland. We spent the first few days in SA's Riverland, visiting Morgan, Berri and Renmark; and then drove through Mildura in Victoria. In NSW, we stopped at Hay, Parkes, Merriwa, Tamworth, Port Macquarie, and Coffs Harbour, and then entered Qld to stop for a night in Robina in the Gold Coast.
Today, jesswrigley and I travelled around the Murray Riverlands, visiting Loxton, Paringa, and Renmark. We started the day from Berri, travelling south and finding a few miscellaneous geocaches. Once at Loxton, we completed the *Historical Loxton* Adventure Lab, found a few geocaches along the river, and then had lunch in town. We then drove towards Paringa, and took a walk around Murtho and Headings Cliffs. We then proceeded back through Renmark, and finished off our evening with a walk at Wilabalangaloo and completing the Berri *A River Contemplation* Adventure Lab.
We stopped at this rest stop to primarily complete this EarthCache, as well as finding the nearby traditional cache. The boulder was certainly massive, and an interesting EarthCache lesson was learned. We studied the rock, and worked our way through the questions, to then submit to the CO for verification. A very cool EarthCache, that we would not have realised about otherwise! Thanks NationalSteel for the EarthCache placement and organisation.

22,314. Found with minniek during our Post-Christmas escape to South Australia.
This trip to South Australia was on again off again due to the changing circumstances in the various states we had to travel through. Finally getting a green light from all 3 states we headed off early boxing day. After camping over night at Curlwaa we crossed the NSW/VIC border early and then sat through a 2 1/2 hour wait at the SA border ! Finally through, we stopped here for a belated lunch, a Trad and an Earthcache. Gathered the required info for the Earthcache which minniek sent to the CO. Permission to log was quickly received - which is always appreciated !
Thanks NationalSteel !! Another interesting Earthcache !

Fitzy_1965 and I are on our way to Adelaide with two of the geo-kids in tow.
Camped at Curlwaa last night and headed over the border early this morning.
Got through the Victorian border ok and same with the SA border or so we thought until we hit the 2 1/2hr traffic jam at the Quarantine Station. Felt sorry for the two police officers (one for each lane). They really need more help!
Thankfully we were also let us through. First cache for me in SA was this one. Quick stop for lunch here then grabbed the nearby trad and went in our way caching to Adelaide.
Another nice EC from NationalSteel.

Found during a trip from Adelaide to the Mildura area for a few days of caching with Brisal5, e.gregory1 and Team Waldron with the main aim to complete the Paddle Steamer and Turtle GeoArt series but also to find other caches along the way. We camped out on the banks of the Murray River near Mildura on the first night, at Rocket Lake campground in the Murray-Sunset National Park on the second night, then back to the banks of the Murray River near Merbein on the last night. We signed the logs as B.E.F.W. Thanks to all the cache owners for placing the cache!
Found on a trip from Adelaide to the Mildura area for a few days of caching with Team Waldron, Brisal5 and FeatherWaite. Our main targets were the Paddle Steamer and Turtle geoart series' but we also took the opportunity to seek out a few other caches along the way.
We were fortunate with the weather. After a burst of very hot days, we timed our trip nicely to coincide with the milder conditions before the next hot spell. That helped to make both the caching and the camping along the Murray River and in the Murray-Sunset National Park very pleasant.
We ended up finding all the caches that we had targeted. Most were in good order. Some of the puzzles were quite challenging and there were some very novel and entertaining multi's. Some certainly took a bit of finding and there were many very clever and/or tricky caches and containers that were a credit to the cache owners’ ingenuity.
It would have been good to have had another day or two to complete the remaining caches in the area, but I’m sure we’ll be back.
Thanks NationalSteel for an interesting earthcache. Joint answers have been sent.

Interesting cache which caused some discussion before the answers were arrived at. Sent of by E.gregory and apparently they were close enough as permission to log has been granted.

I have seen a T shirt with Sleep Eat Cache Repeat [^] Well a four day trip to Mildura with caching friends Team Waldron, E.gregory and FeatherWaite certainly fit that bill. Logs were signed with initials only for the teams - BEFW
Up at daybreak, quick breakfast and cache all day stopping only to have a snack whilst out on the trails, rush to set up camp near dusk for a meal, then perhaps some night caching, early night and REPEAT!
Strategic camping at Kings Billabong, Rocket lake and The Common meant we were close by the Geoart and target night caches. Two previous trips in 2013 and 2016 by me and some by E.gregory meant we visited some (well quite a few actually) previous finds but that made it quick for the people that hadn't found them previously.
I can't thank the CO's of these caches enough as some were really very inventive. Even having solved most puzzles before we came we were confronted with field puzzles and gadgets that were just mind boggling. [:X][:X][:X]
***Thanks NationalSteel for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. ***

I come up to stay in Barmera for a couple of weeks each year around the June long weekend. There are a group of us and we try to organise one caching day where we all go for a drive, a picnic and a find a few caches. Today was the day and along with ROMA123, LLL51 and Gemini7 we headed off for a fun day. [^]
We stopped off at this rest stop for the trad close by and while we were here we all looked at the rock and discussed answers to the questions. These answers have been sent.

Mildura - Berri -Mildura
Headed to Berri & after arriving there for 2 hours heard they were going to close the border of S.A because of the Corona Virus. With the conditions worsening we decided that it was time to for us to turn back towards home in NSW.
We did manage to find a couple of caches along the side of the road.
While hubby found made a quick find at the Jinker I wandered over to collect the ibformation for the EC close by.
Thanks National Steel for placing this EC

Not sure why they moved it from the other side of the river though [?].
Took photos. Left footprints. Submitted answers.
