Out for some steps and a trad dot day, walked up the dirt road from Allington. A few mountain bikers out today, and 1 electric unicycle. Fun to see the swing bridge out here! Quick find, thanks ramblingreprobates!
After many attempts, and much rummaging about the place, I have finally ticked this cache off the list!! Tftc
Decided to visit the swingbridge whilst out exploring the area - thanks for a quick to find cache.
Awesome cache. Harder than expected, but my kid found it in the end! Probably one of my fave caches so far. TFTC
The weather was too fine today for me not to have a decent walk to a cache site. Not being that familiar with this area, I printed off a map before leaving home. However, that wasn't needed as there was a very clear one on a board near where I started. It was just a case of memorising the names and numbers of tracks I needed to follow. Even then, the high quality signage would have got me to where I needed to go. As expected, there wasn't much activity and I only passed seven bikers; only once did I have to actually step off the track to let them pass. If I didn't already know about the bridge, it would have come as quite a surprise to see one here. There has obviously been a lot of effort put into the creation and maintenance of these tracks and the bridge is a great example. The cache itself was easy to find and is in great condition. Thanks for providing the excuse to visit this site.
We regularly ride past here but finally noticed there was a cache today so no excuse not to grab it.
Nice to see that at least a small portion of the exorbitant parking fees at the airport have found their way here rather than the profit statement.
Having read the previous note from Wandering Dragons it would seem there may have been some time travel involved as the paper log dates (or at least the order in which they appear) don't quite seem to match the online logs.

I knew this cache would take quite a while to walk to so I've waited for a decent day It was a very pleasant trip up from St Albans St and I managed to keep out of the way of the few MTB's who were sharing the tracks Just as well my OSM map had most of the tracks on it but I still had to plan my route carefully Contents dry as in here
Now to get the one down on the Missing Link track It's only 200m as the crow flies but I want to go up to the end of Upswing and then back down via Aratihi Just 2600m to go!
Thanks Ramblingreprobates

Thanks ramblingreprobates for placing this cache
I found this one back in December while riding the 3 brothers trail up here with Amber...
I liked the hint! And it was fun riding across the bridge
Peak Flow and Swigg were lots of fun on the way down!!

Cache # 4,794 - A beautiful autumn Sunday for a long stroll, so brought along a friend (not into geocaching) for the longest 1.4 km stroll ever. With all the twists and turns the entire trip was closer to 8 km long, and lovely 180 meter climb as well. Lots of mountain bikes on the trails today - constantly having to move aside for them. The swingbridge is indeed impressive, but we didn't go on it as we didn't want to block the constant stream of cyclists.
The cache took quite a while to locate. Checked the likely spot first without luck, then branched off a bit into the undergrowth. Then re-read the description and realised it couldn't be in the bushes. GPS was pointing to a different spot, so checked that one out several times too. It was only on the fourth pass of the first location examined that we discovered the cache, having been buried in the ground (probably as a result of not being found since 9 January). It was with a big sigh of relief that I signed the log and returned it to the same spot, albeit it without the burying part, but still nicely concealed.
We then headed back. Took us 2 hours to get here, but only 45 minutes to return, so made it before we lost the light. Thanks for a nice adventure! TNLNSL.

It was with sadness that this cache demonstrated again a local cacher's unethical behaviour, recording false dates in order to extend their personal "streak", which is now only valid in their head and in the official statistics online. Sad to see that. (#6 on the log)
#10,596. A good walk up to Wild at Heart in Makara, Wellington. GZ was all quiet at the time of the visit. Quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

WOW, this is was one of those caches that I have had on my list that I have wanted to do for quite some time, was in town for work and was deciding on which cache I was going to go and find and finally decided to settle on this cache.
I decided to park on St Albans Ave and make my way up to GZ from there, well I knew that it was going to be a very hot afternoon walk so I made sure that I had my water with me and once I found a safe parking spot near the entrance to the walkway it was just a matter of making my way to GZ.
Making my way up the main track I decided that where possible I would walk in the shade that was on offer but s I got further up the track the shade got less and the gradient got steeper, I was quite surprise with the amount of offshoots, tracks going in all directions, but I decided to stay on the main track and was soon near GZ, but to my dismay GZ was below me and there was no direct access to GZ [xx(]. After realising the errors of my way I had two choices, to continue up the track to the main junction, which wasnt too far away and make my way down another track and then find the track to GZ, or to go back the way I came for 600 metres and then make my way to GZ, [:(!], decision, decisions.
Finally decided that I would go back down the way I came, once I got to the track junction, the one that I originally discounted , I soon realised that this was going to take me to GZ, I took the walk carefully in case there was bikes coming towards me, but as luck would have it I had the track to myself.
Finally I was soon at the next junction, this had a sign saying swingbridge track, well, at least I was on the correct path now, after a few more curves and contours, this way and that I was soon nearing GZ, and it soon came into view. Finally arriving at GZ, I was able to find the hint object very quickly and soon spotted something that required closer inspection.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where I found it. Thanks ramblingreprobates for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (14103). What a great spot for a cache, would not have come here if it was not for caching, so giving it a fav point as I love these sort of caches even though I thoroughly mess up the directions to GZ.
After replacing the cache, I was about to go when a cyclist turned up, well that was great timing, waited for them to make their way across the swing bridge before I decided to turn around and make my way back towards the car. It was a nice walk even though the heat was making it a bit harder but I really enjoyed it.

Nice to see another cache up here! This was my New Year's Eve cache while doing a 12km circuit of Koru, Sally Alley, Three Brothers, Upswing, Aratihi, Leaping Lizard, Nikau Valley, Missing Link, Snake Charmer, Magic Carpet and Live Wires. Nice easy find - after reading the hint at the car I didn't need the GPSr! The cache was in excellent condition. TFTC and happy new year.
Nice to grab this cache after some of the previous ones on the MTB track. Thanks CO for the cache.
We biked Makara Peak on Friday 19th before the MEGA, went over this spectacular bridge and wondered why there wasn't a cache here. That evening, comparing the phone with the GPS - there IS a cache at the swingbridge - it got published after I loaded the PQ! So, Monday after the MEGA, we had enjoyed Makara Peak so much we spent the morning here again, and this time made sure we went past the ones we missed on Friday. So since Upswing is uphill biking only, we dropped the bikes at the Three Brothers junction and walked up the the bridge and back. That meant we could then go and explore Missing Link next. And finally that smooth swooping run down Peak Flow! You are so lucky to have these potential cache placement areas... I really fancy a "fire extinguisher" in the vicinity of Smokin'... and there is a reason the tracks have numbers as well as names, it is so someone can place a nice easy biking multi (lots of potential for creativity with an old bike helmet at the final!).
With excellent weather today, I decided to get some morning exercise by going for a walk from home to score this. Distance was about 6km each way, This is the first time I have been to this bridge, rather an impressive construction! Found the cache almost immediately in the first place checked. Signed log, thanks for the cache and for giving me the excuse to come here
Happy Days FTF @ 10:50. A nice breezy walk up to the impressive looking bridge. Quickly found the cache signed the pristine logsheet and headed back again. Lots of young people out enjoying the trails on their holiday break. Good to see. Cheers and TFTC
Not sure I took the best route to this one - came up from Arlington Road and then via three brothers & Upswing.... but I got there eventually, gained a FDF smiley, and 790m towards the distance part of the DGSc Challenge. Thanks for bringing me up here - it's been a few years!
