#3854 Today is day 8 of my geocaching holiday in New Zealand. I'm driving from Timaru to Oamaru first, then up north to Christchurch. Of course, I find geocaches along the way.Found it! I parked on Talbot Rd and walked to the cache. I did the climbing from the front. It was more than a T2, in my opinion, but maybe this is an NZ rating. Malik pkn domeky a zelen zvlnn krajina s horami na obzoru. Cel den se oteplovalo a do 30C. To zde nen obvykl a m to dost pekvapilo po tch verejch 15C. Zastavovala jsem u vybranch keek nebo jen na prohldku msta a jinak jela. Ve druh pli byla cesta hodn vyhldkov - pohledy na ocen, kopce a kopeky a lesy. Moc pkn. Super byla zastvka u geologick zajmavosti - velkch kulatch utr na pli Moeraki Boulders. It was very hot and sunny, but before Dunedin the temperature suddenly dropped from 30 to 15C. I also stopped at some caches and enjoyed a nice day. A summertime trip to the South Island, what could be better. Having flown to Christchurch and then driven to Timaru yesterday, today I was out with one of my favourite Geocaching teams in the morning, and then running around by myself this afternoon. Day 4 of the Fangsoki/1MinnieMoo NZ adventures. We got up and moving quickly this morning as we had big day of travel today heading from Lake Tekapo to Dunedin via Timaru and Oamaru. It was a chilly start to the morning with frost on the campervan and table to start the day.
Heading through Timaru we had a couple of caches on the list to find, this challenge being one. We parked the car and walked the short journey up to the cache.

One of my sons in Whangarei is going on an OE. He sold his car to his brother Tim in Dunedin and fortunately for me Tim wanted me to drive the car down. Of course I jumped at the idea of a geocaching roadie. I've had lots of puzzles solved for such a long time so geoarts were the main target of the trip.

In Palmy area I wanted the shield series and the 20/20 geoart. Then Wairarapa was stickman (which we ran out of time for), the new M geoart and some archived skindo challenges. Wellington was finishing off the kiwi geoart. Nelson I had a few challenges I wanted before heading to Christchurch. It was family time there and perhaps the smile series but time ran out again. Off to Dunedin for the airplane geoart. Then it was time to fly home to say goodbye to my son heading to Denmark.

It was great to have my friend Supernanny come along on the trip for company. We had a wonderful trip and fantastic weather apart from one afternoon. Now it's time to start writing the massive backlog of logs. It might take a while.

Today was the trip from Christchurchto Dunedin. A long drive and a few caches planned to break it up. I had bigger plans of collecting some A2O puzzles but time ran out. I love challenge caches so happily added this to the list. Neat to see this container as the hide. Thanks for the fun challenge

#9453. This is the last day of my Easter geotour adventure in the South Island,. Been travelling around with Infoferret since Friday and we have been in North Canterbury, West Coast, inland Otago, inland Canterbury and North Otago/South Canterbury. We stayed in Timaru overnight and will be heading north to Christchurch today but have quite a few caches to do around Timaru first before we head up towards Methven. While heading out to get some PWGT caches we stopped to grab these challenge caches on the way. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks RAYZR for the cache. I found my first geocache in 2008 while on Somes Island but really had no idea what the hobby was about. Only took it up in 2014 when I acquired a replacement GPS.

Its a pleasure to log this cache today. We started this hobby in 2013, after hearing a talk at camera club. I googled GPS and up popped geocaching.com, wish it hadn't sometimes. But what would we have done with all that spare time?? Thanks for the cache. See our qualifying list posted in Feb.

Detoured off the main road on our way home from Dunedin to Christchurch. Found the cache no problems and easiest way back down was to slide down on our bums.

Day 12 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)

Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.

Today's plan was to drive from Timaru down to Dunedin, following the coast but with plenty of side trips to get caches targeted as per above. I have been so lucky to have dry conditions my whole trip so far, with the sun really putting in an effort to convince me it wasn't winter! I didn't mind the chilly starts knowing that the rest of the day was going to be great caching conditions.

I had met the CO yesterday evening and he had mentioned that he had a few Challenge Caches on the road heading West out of town. I was already aware of them and they were on my list to try to find today as I had checked out my qualification a couple of weeks ago in prep for this trip.

There wasn't much traffic on the road today, but in spite of that I was aware of the potential for accidents to happen so parked a little way from this cache and walked back to it. No problem finding the container, and there were no issues with either it or the log so once signed everything was replaced back exactly as found and I was on my way again.

Found with Granville86a at Labour weekend, the last link missing was a 2002. Thought I had done enough finding an '02 virtual, but sadly not.
A quick search yesterday on our "Tourist in our own Country tour"... we found the required 18 year old cache. We got the little bugger... up and down a sand D.U.N.E...
Next challenge to knock off is the hidden dates, only a handful to collect.

Finally!!!!! This cache has taken ages to fulfill, 2002 has proven to be a very difficult year to conquer for me. There's not many of these left, none in the deep south anyway. Anyway this week we're in the north island using up some Jetstar credit from a canceled getaway thanks to the Corona Virus and our mission was to "knock the b@$tard off" so to speak... and knock it off we did. After an hour trudging up sand dunes in the rain we finally nailed the golden oldie needed in order to log. We found these caches last Labour weekend with a dear friend Granville86a who has since sadly passed Here's to you Glenn!

We were slightly confused to find a cache called 18 year's challenge on our sheet, but 21 year's Challenge on our GPS. Another update we didn't pick up, but not a problem as we still satisfied the requirements. with the level 3 restrictions lifted on COVID-19 it is now deemed safe to find caches again. keep safe and follow the guidelines as set out by our government.

I decided to pop down to the South Island to get the older Jasmer Grid caches, various qualified Challenge caches, higher favourited and some TMGT caches. Flew to Dunedin then eventually drove up to Christchurch, picking up some of the caches around here on the way. Thanks for the cache and if I remember correctly the scratches when extracting the cache.

We had a busy day in Timaru today finding the TMGT caches and solved puzzles, and then on to Waimate picking up a bunch of challenge caches along the way.
We easily qualified for this challenge (it was in our solved puzzle list as 18 year's Challenge so guess it's been there 3 years!). We parked the camper a little further on and walked back to this one. TFTC

#17752. Another location with dodgy parking. Troodles dropped me off, then drove up the road, then back down and then parked at the nearby intersection. Didn't take too long to locate the cache, after a bt of a scramble up the bank. TFTC.

Today StreetWalkerNZ and I need to head back to Christchurch, having only just scratched the surface of the Oamaru and environs caches. We decided to drive north after coffee, hoping to escape the rain.
I just realised that to qualify, we need to have found a cache placed in 2020, but fortunately we found some new caches, placed on new years day, as we traveled from Dunedin to Kakanui on 3 Jan - phew! TFTC.

I marked this as one I qualified for ages ago, it's only as I read the description again prior to writing the log that I noticed the bit about needing a qualifying cache for every year including the current year. Luckily I had a crack at an FTF yesterday that was placed on the 1st but was a couple of hours too late but at least it means that I still qualify for this one. Thanks RAYZR

Our Labour weekend mission was to get a 2002 cache in Christchurch, which we did... the 911 Firefighters virtual. Unfortunately, we didn't read the fine print and this didn't qualify as it wasn't a physical container. Maybe another trip to chch is required.
