Logs
A three day trip to the Nation's Capital from Adelaide for a couple of St John Ambulance events and activations. Luckily with a little time as well to explore Canberra and find some (mainly solved puzzles and AL) caches.Today despite the 34C I managed 22 caches in 4h, plus an event. This letterbox cache was recommended by the good people at the event and since I was on my way to Black Mountain anyway, I decided to stop and check it out.My phone did play silly buggers for a bit, but this is a cache thats hard to miss! As an additional bonus I came across a cute cache guardian as well (see photo). Must be a friend of Groot!?tftc dty73
Great spring weather for a walk with cachemetwerking and we had some success in this area, only leaving one attempted cache unlogged ?? Amazing cache! We met a mountain of blackberries. Can't go over it, can't go under it, but we found a way to go around. Can see why Groot has so many favourites. Left a dark pink unicorn pencil for future visitors. TFTC
Geogeneve had a mission to get this one today so we met up at the black mountain peninsula to start our walk - was a beautiful day and so cool to see the bike tracks nearby - TFTC
Howeirdsx3 and I were attracted to this one by the FP count. After a short walk from the parking coordinates, Howeirdsx3 exclaimed "I found it" and was very impressed with Groot's home. TFTC, FP awarded
This was the absolute best find yet!!! We loved it so much. This is genius. We came at it from the wrong direction and faced a wall of blackberries, but a bit of side ways traversing helped us find an easier access path. Thank you for the amazing cache/letterbox!!
Find Number 2896 found at 15:15. Today we found 8 caches, 0 Adventure Lab stages and had 0 DNFs. Came up to Canberra with GeoSon NationalSteel plus grandchildren Charlicorn1500 and SteveCat3D to visit the Canberra Vintage Computer Exhibition 2024 at Radford College. After that we found some caches. What a wonderful way to end the day. It is easy to see why this is one of the highest FP caches in Canberra. We are adding our own one to the collection.Everything was in good condition. We took nothing, left nothing, signed the logbook, turned out the lights and locked up. Thanks dty73 for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment.
Caching around Canberra for a while longer. TFTC. A great setup. Very nice to find out here.We turned the lights out on the way out.
This is a tick off the CBR bucket list! I opened up this cache to what felt like someone's actual house, there was so much going on and so much to see. Groot has got to host a party in this crib soon! Minus the blackberry bushes in the front yard, it's the perfect party house... colourful lights and all! Gotta give a fav point and hope I'll get an invite to the party... fingers crossed! Thank you dty73 for the epic cache!
Full time Nomads, travelling around Australia since 2014. Our first visit to ACT in that time. Our last day in Canberra today the plan was to complete as many in progress labs as possible and visit the National Arboretum. The day was a little overcast, and the plan went awry when we had a DNF at Brindabella business park, then got caught up with the Virtual at the Arboretum. But all in all a fantastic visit to our Nations Capital facilitated thanks to the GeoBash.TFTC dty73
I was in Canberra for the night while traveling home after picking up a wiz bang telescope for my son in Parramatta. The Canberra stop over was my treat for doing the drive for him, so a few key caches were on my to do list. Last night while I was setting up my to do list for today I decided I would try and spend the morning grabbing large caches. This area a few close together so I though I would give them a crack.Caching after a Mega make it much easier to work you way to GZ on caches like this because there is a caching super highway rather than the normal caching trails .Wow what a great effort here I can easily see why the favourite points are so high.Thank you dty73 for all your effort in setting up this cache
Target cache and also ACT's **** MOST FAVOURITE POINTED CACHE.*** have another fav point from me. quick find. I really do like your work. Found with Mogni. Myself and mogni are headed off to canberra on the " I missed the Capital GeoBash Mega " holiday, since last minute family problems came in to play and we had to adjust our plans by a few weeks. On the way over we targeted multi's, wherigo's and puzzles to make sure we had 25 in each or at least close to that total ( or more ) as possible, getting as many new New South Wales LGA's as possible, the 17th most favourite point NSW cache and every cache size in New South Wales. In the ACT it was getting 2 of the 5 oldest letterboxes, oldest wherigo in Australia, 2nd oldest earthcache ( with a side trip to get the oldest earthcache of course ), and ACT oldest cache too. I also hosted a CITO and planned on getting every different cache type i could and eevry different cache size as well. I also needed 9 more virtuals this trip to get my virtual count over 100. Finally canberra was far enough away from from house to complete the well aged well travelled cacher 0 to 1000 kms with a cache every 10 km's ( i only need 7 more caches to complete )Leaving the ACT it was going via Victoria to get there last active web cam cache and slowly getting a total of 20 finds in each LGA i passed through if i had enough time plus also hosting a CITO in Victoria as well. A busy 11 days. Trust me by the end of the holiday you would have thought the 6 meter ladder weighed more than 13 kg's to amount of times it was used or carried up hills or over creeks. If your cache was found with a broken container/lid it was replaced or if the log was full it was replaced or a extra log if the container was big enough ( except for nano's, do your own maintenance on nano's.
Found by Mary and David at 11:05. Our last day in Canberra after the Capital GeoBash. You can add us to the huge list of thosw who love your handicraft and creativity.Despite some misty rain, we enjoyed the walk in throug the bushland. Loved the large container too. Dropped off "Gecko Tag". Our thanks to dty73.
1/4/2024 Find #6947Day four in Canberra for KBreeAHH, Captain Terror and I. We begin today getting this cache for KBreeAHH and me. First cache of the day and I become the blood sacrifice, getting the wild raspberry bush wrapped around my ankles as I wandered in. But the pain and blood was all worth it, as we stumbled upon the grotto. Opening it up there was a treasure trove of awesomeness. It certainly lived up to its favourite points. Photos taken for the kindy class mascots to show the kids back at work in Brisbane then we were off. Thanks for the cache dty73.
April 1, 2024 13:25Found on day 4 of Capital GeoBash 2024 along with AidenEL.Dropped off Baby Yoda from Sydney to continue it's journey. TFTC dty73, this is find #91 for me. Aza34
Found with aza34, went past it the first time and he cut his leg on a thorn. Was very cute hide though, tftc
Groot's Grotto1.5/1.5 Large Letterbox Hybrid Thank you for the cache dty73. A 1 April 2024 2:23pm
Found during the Mega event in Canberra over the Easter long weekend. Our team comprised courtneyrose_, Davidwazza, e.gregory1, Featherwaite, Freddo, gridge98 and Team Waldron, signing the logs as ABP to save time, and space in the logbooks, or with our individual caching names. Enjoyed a great weekend away finding a rewarding range of cache types, d/t combinations, cache hides and retrievals. Thanks for the cache dty73!
Can you go to the GeoBash and not visit one of ACT's most fav caches? Nope!! An amazing effort well worth all the favs it has. Thanks for building this it was excellent.
Its Easter Sunday and I havent spotted the Easter bunny however it has been an adventure with a mega wedding, volcano eruption and witch hunt.Time for some standard caching!Happy Easter to you Groot! You are very cute with your decorations, although it was very unwise of me to visit in sandals as you may live near some wiggly sticks.
Found this during a fantastic weekend away at the Canberra Mega, with gridge98, Freddo, Team Waldron, e.gregory1, Davidwazza and Featherwaite. The log books were either signed with the name ABP or our individual caching names. Was an excellent Mega, grateful to be part of it!
Down in Canberra for the Mega event. I ran into the cache owner for this one, and they gave me some information about collecting it. I decided it was the perfect way to end our weekend, finding a couple of caches that had high fav points and sounded very interesting. We set out to collect it. It was a bit of a scramble in places, and a blackberry bush decided to grab hold of me at one point. However, this did not stop us in our pursuit. Soon, we arrived at GZ to find the amazing Groots Grotto. My son absolutely loved this cache and spent time exploring the grotto before making sure he stamped every stamp in his stamp book.TFTC and the adventure. Fav point here for sure!
Find number 13233 at 12:58:43PM on Sunday the 31 March 2024Seventh full day travelling around the nations capital and what another amazingly glorious day it's looking like. We are spending most of the day travelling around the city doing Wherigos and Letterboxes so that I can fill in my Space Hunt game and also doing Canberras high favourite caches, we also returned to Paliment House to finish our tour of the back rooms of the BIG boys A quick find on the third of two letterboxes required today A great hide and deserves another favourite **Thanks for placing this cache dty73**---Nominations for the **2023 Victorian Cache of the Year Awards** are now open and will close on **17 April 2024**. Caching our way around Canberra taking in the sights with 2beez and attending Mega. Another great day picking up challenges, hiking and visiting some unique spots. We have been so lucky with the weather too. What a fantastic cache! Thanks dty73 for creating for us all to enjoy. Having arrived in Canberra, we headed to the Mega HQ and completed our signing duties and registration, picked up our show bag and caught up with a lot of old friends; then it was out to taste some of the smorgasbord of caches on offer in the Australian Capital Territory.Day 2 and I was out and about with Quickhealer2 again, and we headed into NSW to find some Challenge caches and some caches to assist us with qualifying for Challenge caches; on the way back, we noticed this string of Letterboxes and completed the series before heading back to base to get some sleep at 3 am.With this in mind, we stopped quite a bit on the journey to find a good number of caches and endeavoured to get closer to qualifying for more Challenge caches. We will use some relatively generic logs with the sheer number of logs we need to complete after the Mega. We are tired and have insufficient brain power to do much more than that.We would like to thank all the cache owners for placing the caches for us to find, and unless otherwise noted, we found all caches in excellent condition.Thank you, dty73, for this Letterbox cache. We are adding another FP to the great big pile of them.
bunadoorian, Smiley1982 and myself came out this afternoon to find this cache with so many favourite points. We weren't sure what we would find - but what we did we enjoyed. TFTC and its Easter theme - dty73.
Quick cache find here. Love a large cache. The trip bit.Easter geocaching festival of twenty twenty four. This time it is the turn of Oz Mega GeoBash MEGA event in the nation's capital. It is time for a road trip across country to Canberra in the Sporty Pajero Sports. Freddo and Gridge98 traveling from Adelaide via a strange inland route that takes in scenic rural locations, dusty roads, punctured tyres, overheating batteries, various tools of the trade, special campgrounds, and lots scope for many many geocaching finds. Along the way we saw running emus, jumping kangaroos, wandering deer, dead foxes, herds of wooly sheep and stray steers.Arriving in Canberra we met our colleagues e.gregory1, featherwaite, team walron, courtney rose, davidwazza, e_smilie, and georode, signing as ABP, plus a huge group of other like minded excited mega geocachers attending event after event, and more events.Day one. Somebody moved the goal posts. So many caches to find. So many caches to log. We find them, sign them and replace them. This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and an Apple iPhone 11 using the marvelous Cachly app. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs macro.Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun. Apologies for the generic part of the cache log. Here for the geobash. Caches signed as GJX. Our three gcoven JACSTeam and xrocketx. Saturday was seek all ye can find day! Fab mix of cache types with some valuable oldies plus the big event! JACS had found before so rocket and I headed in to locate the grotto! What a fab cache! Loved it so fave from me.
Great work! I can see that this is a very well loved cache for locals and travels alike. Greencordial asked BenM70 to do up a caching found template while she is doing the driving and Im doing duck all. Im actually just pressing the screen randomly like Im actually enthused to be doing this. Anyways, we are visiting the national capital to attend Grrencordial2nd mega as I got scared by Covid for Dayboro and didnt take the punt that Townsvilles coolest cachers BenM70 and burgo78 did. Thank you dty73 for placing this cache for me to enjoy!
So many great caches to choose from during the Canberra Geobash. Our last caching goal before leaving Canberra was to find a letterbox cache. Im glad we chose Groots Grotto. Happy Easter. Thanks dty73 for your cache and for contributing to a great Easter weekend.
Thank you! Been meaning to find this one for ages! The Mega was a brilliant excuse ????
Found on Easter Sunday during the Capital Geobash. Last one for today. Little NatyNu loved it! Great stuff ????????????TFTC
Came in the wrong way but a quick find once we found the geotrail. Out with Wombatwandering and enjoying the Mega and surrounds.
TFTC! Found with Bunadoorian, Grub62 and myself, in which I came up with the goods. What an awesome find in the bush!
A very good sized cache. Well provisioned and presented. Sorry but my stamps a bit geographically embarrassed as I left them in Melbourne. Thanks for creating and maintaining this cache and TFTC.
Round and round the garden like a teddy bearDrawn by the allure of so many favourite points, Heymissjo and I intuitively parked at the suggested location and followed the geotrail in. Not the first one we saw, but one that would take us more directly to GZ - except it didnt. That sure was a large blackberry thicket to circumnavigate!! Should have taken the earlier geotrail!A wonderful surprise was lying in wait for us on the other side of the blackberry - a real Geocaching treasure.Such a delight to stumble upon, it definitely receives a favourite from me. Enjoyed the Easter light show and turned them off before leaving - on the path more travelled, I guess! Thanks so much
#1861Super excited to be attending GeoBash shenanigans this weekend with my Welder kids and puppy free thats the way we like it! Having been up here 18 months ago we had a fairly good idea what we were going to target this time tick some boxes in some more challenges, pick up some new surrounding LGAs, target some oldies and find some new shiny ones! Thanks to all involved in Mega for putting such a great event and also for ordering the perfect weather! Thanks for the cache! A favourite from me.
#700 milestone find 5:46 pmCanberra capital geobash mega event trip LTFThanks for placing this cache dty73
The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time.Today we drove all over Canberra, firstly filling a couple of D/T grid squares before focusing on finding favourites. Afterwards we took a tour around Lake Burley Griffin in this superb walking weather. Some wonderful places visited and caches found, it was a most enjoyable way to spend the day. A wonderful find, we were impressed with the seasonal decoration and made sure to turn the lights out before leaving. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for us and adding to our enjoyment.
Well it is finally the official day of the Canberra Geobash Mega. After a couple of big days of travelling to Canberra and then the surrounds a more laid back approach will happen today,So after a great lead up event yesterday on the 4WD tour today will be spent collecting caches a lot closer to the event site.It is also great to catch up with friends from far and wide as that you only seem to catch up with them at these type of events. It was time to jump in to the Geocruiser to find some of the more local caches that arent within walking distance of the Mega site.I was speaking with the CO yesterday morning and I got to meet Groot then was told about his grotto. So during my drive around the lake I called in here and went off in search of his Grotto.Of course I picked the wrong way in but eventually I got to say hello to him.Of course another favorite is coming your way. Thanks dty73 TFTLC.
Took the long way around, past the BMX track.Easy to find once anywhere near it.Better track out.found after doing the Paddle Steamer Tour (part of the GeoBash Canberra Mega 2024)Out caching with D@geoThank you the hide dty73
Found with gwd.aussie while up for the Canberra GeoBash. This cache was on the to do list due to the amount of favourites it has recieved plus I have a soft spot for Groot. Thanks dty73
Well, for someone that has not bothered to do anything geocaching related for a while I seem to be going out of the way to do Mega events. This particular caching trip was the brainchild of the other participant in this little excursion, that being greencordial. I flew into Toowoomba so we could drive down and pick up plenty of LGAs along the way. Day 4 and a number of the UGC challenges, multis, virtuals and the odd tree fish as well as a wedding, a lackey and volunteer event were undertaken. A drive up to see the city lights followed by a visit here to check out this nicely decorated letterbox.
Found by Rex and I, with James 0116 and DunWorking, during geoBash 2024 in Canberra TNLN. SL. TFTC dty73

I would never have been able to add my name to this log without the assistance of my wonderful caching mates weirdobiker and Contesta. No wonder it has so many favourite points, with another one added by me.One can only wonder how long it will survive, like Sleeping Beauty, before the blackberries conceal it? Thanks dty73 for a well stocked large cache in suburbia.
This cache was on the to do list due to the amount of favourites it has recieved. It did not disappoint. Thankyou for placing the cache for us to enjoy. Picked up a pt. A fav from me
in Canberra for the Geo Bash mega out with Contesta as a local guide to collect a few cases today Fantastic cache, once we worked out how to get here. Great Easter decorations and definitely deserves a favourite point
This cache was found today and brings our overall cache find tally to 13240.Found this one quickly today, it kind of sticks out. There must have been a lot of effort into this one. Thanks dty73 for the cache.
We initially passed the cache area on our way to the arboretum, then on our return we approached from the proper parking area. Just as we arrived some other cachers did too, and it turned out to be Austrees from our local area at home. Small world! Lovely to chat with them and go the find together. This area is pretty rampant with blackberry thorny bushes at the moment so it wasnt the nicest path in, but at GZ we were met with a lovely large container. I especially loved the painted rocks and was tempted to take one but felt it would be nicer for others to enjoy them too. Thanks Groot for sharing your grotto.
Another beautiful sunny Canberra day. Out and about with our WA5 team Geotrakka Burns345 ICNothing Cirrus_WA and Neva2Old. Logs signed as WA6. Apologies for the generic logs. This cache was a must for us and it did not disappoint. Plenty of photos later and switching off the lights this cache deserves a FP.Cache found with no issues. Cheers
Over from the West to enjoy my first Mega.Out to fill my grid and find some high favourited caches. Lots of laughs catching up with old friends and making some new friends along the way. Signing as a team - WA5 todayLoved this - heres a fav point xSome logs are delayed and out of order - Apologies for that- its been hectic trying to keep up! Many thanks dty73 for placing this hide for me to find and adding to my adventures.

Today we are going to hopefully find the Challenge Caches we qualified for. Well weve done that now. Off for some letterboxes and trads. We met up with fellow cachers at the Parking area and unbelievably they were cachers from our neck of the woods back home. So nice to meet them. This was an awesome letterbox, love the painted rocks.Thank dty73 for creating and maintaining this caches.
Part of the Sandgroper contingent that has come to the Mega to explore new hunting grounds. Its sure to be a great week with many finds and laughs with lots of great friends and maybe some new ones along the way. Thank you for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Logged as WA5.
Embarking on a week long mega adventure in the ACT and its picturesque surrounds, I've teamed up with an enthusiastic West Aussie crew: I C Nothing, Meme28, geotrakka, and Burns345, with the occasional cameo from neva2old. As we traversed territory, I was enthralled by the rich variety of caches this new hunting ground presented, turning each discovery into a memorable experience. Our group engaged in friendly competition at each stop to be the one to claim the find and shared countless laughs along the way.Together, we marked our triumphs in the logs as WA5, and on the rare occasion WA6.Thanks dty73 for placing Groot's Grotto for me and others to find.I added my name to the log at 15:58 on 27/3/2024.This is find number 8282 for me.
Over here for Canberra Mega from Western Australia picking up caches and meeting like persons. TFTC logged as WA6 (Geotrakka Meme28 Burns345 ic_nothing cirrus_wa and Neva2old) fantastic and worth the brambles. FP from me left a path tag
Spent the day in Canberra riding some of the many cycleways. This was one of a few I found today. The Rats love a letterbox cache and after seeing this cache promoted on social media, I had to come and find it. This was a lot of fun and worthy of a favourite point. ThanksTFTC ??
Visiting Australia and today we are in Canberra out with All7. Now that was fun! We are always looking for oldies and some of the other caches nearby. We have found the cachers around here super friendly and helpful. Thanks for the smile
Been meaning to pop by this one for a while & glad to finally make it! TFTC & for the extra effort with this one dty73!
Well that's my first letterbox cache! Thank you for bringing me and the geofamily out this way. I wouldn't recommend wearing shorts and thongs like myself, but it was manageable. tftc!
TFTC! Our last cache here at Canberra before continuing our journey back to Brisbane from Melbourne. We absolutely love this one despite the bushwhack. Thanks to the precise co-ord we finally made our way here. What a pleasure to finally meet Groot We were very happy to leave my name on Canberras most favourited cache!!Would recommend CO to update the terrain to 2.0 as the way to GZ is a bit overgrown and kinda prickly, but with long pants and enclosed shoes it should be fine:)
Thanks! Geo kid declared best cache ever, sexed kid pulled out of cache due to tricky terrain
Had to detour to find this cache . I love Letterbox caches, and this officially marks my 100th large size cache, which will qualify me for a few challenge caches I've been working on . The cache brought a smile to my face. I turned the lights on to see who was home, then made sure to switch them back off..very worthy of a favourite for the effort.
Visiting while travelling from Melbourne to Sydney. Clever little hid. Thanks for the cache
Bestest cutes and soo cool.Worth cgettjng up early before flight back to QLDLeft some hand painted rocks for SWAGs.
This was an amazing cache, thanks. One more thing to tick off from my Canberra Todos. TFTC
