Found it had to look twice

Wow, what an amazing place! Could get right up to explore. Gorgeous little stream, and yes very picturesque. Had a chat with a few cows, but they ran away in the end (our conversation skills were obviously lacking). Thanks so much for bringing us here!

With team bop Philip.Perry McJandals and Nzflossy back in June going back through and logging the caches I forgot to log back then thanks for bringing us to this part of New Zealand really enjoyed our weekend away.

Team BOP is back on the road this time heading to Taranaki with our sights set on some Labs, some geo-art & everything else in between

Our current incarnation includes Davidson Clan, NZFlossy, McJandals and myself and we’ve signed the cache logs as ‘Team BOP’ to save time and log space. We’ve thoroughly enjoyed the journey as most caches have been found quickly & without fuss thanks to accurate coords and a straight forward placements.

I appreciate there’s a stigma attached to cut’n’paste logs like these so I’ll try to provide cache specific notes retrospectively when I get home. We do genuinely respect the work put into these caches, particularly some of the puzzles, but with a numbers mission like this - the hides start to blur together unfortunately. So Cheers COs, TFTC and most importantly - thanks for bringing us here

On the way to Mokau had a bit time to spend and went for the gravel road to fetch a couple caches.

27-Jan-21
Heading off on a mini overnight trip to Waitomo Caves to do a couple of tours plus explore a few trails, caves and other natural wonders we come across then will head home via Marokopa beach. This was my first one to sign off for the day. A great start for our trip. TFTC

A cool drive out to GZ, I recognise this as Lord of the Rings country. The rocks are just huge. The one that has fallen down just back up the road and has split in half looks unreal and movie like. A quick find by my Dad here and I grabbed it to sign first while tracy.g looked at the rocks. TFTC

Great opportunity to avoid the road works and ensure I kept up with my son who found it last. Very overgrown with fresh growth but I finally spotted it.

Great road this was. Unfortunately got stuck behind cattle so was trying to rush the sunlight to find this one. Would recommend finding these caches on the road during the day and hanging around the transmitter tower to watch the sunset over the coast.
Not a lot of paper left so may need to be replaced after the next 10 people.

Winding our way along this gravel backroad. Slow going but well worth the scenery. Toby and I are loving it. These rocks are awesome. Got this one snagged but log wet. Arranged a temp RITR log to keep this one rolling along. Cheers.

Day 16 - Saturday 28 December. Awakino to Taumaranui today. So lets go!!

The Seagnoid, Zara, Toby and I are spending Christmas exploring Taranaki via geocaching. Its been an amazing 3 week adventure. Rattls BBQ was a great event, meeting many other cachers. But also managed to fit in a few more events, especially New Years Day celebrating the start of 2020. Lots of caches - over 500. Lots of cache maintenance. Lots and lots of kilometers. And lots of amazing places visited along our journey. Mt Taranaki remained elusive for much of our travels and the caches on it at the top. Loved Pukekura Park Night Lights Show and the the Wooden Mechanical toy exhibition at NP Info centre.

Love this back road. Easy to do in a town car, although there was a tree fall we had to squeeze around, and it was a bit rutted and muddy here and there. So no caravans, although small campervans should be okay (but best not). On the route Taybeedragon and I saw two families of goats, one family black, the other family white. Lots of rabbits, hares, some pheasants. The rocks along the way, and especially near this cache, suggest there are caves underneath, and I even think I saw a couple of cave entrances. Would take a visit to confirm, because it could be just lots of shadow.
Cache here is okay, but the log is VERY wet. No worries, CO - we got your back - Taybeedragon to the rescue!!! She gets out with her extensive cache maintenance kit and now there is a new waterproof florist's paper log installed.

Day sixteen of Taybeedragon's and my big 3 week circumnavicaching trip around Mt Taranaki, starting from Palmerston North. Today is New Plymouth to Taumaranui - yep, it's a slow trip!!
Highlights:
* 3 weeks, 536 caches
* Mt Taranaki had been removed for washing, which was a bit of a shame. Even after it had been returned we were only allowed to see it for it was less than half an hour a day.
* High percentage of caches with crappy coordinates Sad
* Amazing Pukekura Park
* AMAZING Pukekura Park light show!
* Pukeiti Gardens
* Lots of cache maintenance!

***[======== NZ Mega 2020 ========](http://nzmega.com)***

Planning for the [NZ Mega 2020](http://nzmega.com) event is well underway. It will be held in Auckland over Labour Weekend, 23 to 26 October 2020. It's going to be a massive celebration of geocaching:

* 20 years of geocaching worldwide.
* 20 years since New Zealand had the very first geocache hidden outside of USA.
* And it's 2020 - all the 20s!

Talk to your geo-friends and start planning to be part of [this event](https://coord.info/GC87777) - you won't want to miss it!

Found it while on a road trip to New Plymouth from Whangarei

29-Oct-19
we detoured through here in our campervan to get these caches and when we got to the Awakino end the Targa rally cars were just starting to come out from up the coast road
Away for a week of adventure leaving home in the rain and a strong southerly wind but as we advanced and the days ticked by the weather improved. Our main aim was to cycle the timber trail then blob out for a day then head north to Waitomo and return via Te kuiti and head south
on SH 3 getting caches along the way and in some cases taking alternative routes around around the Awakino gorge before geting back to NP then home
Thanks to all for placing these geocaches

Another cool off-the-beaten track geocache - my favourite kind! Took some great photos of this area with the sun shining on the rocks after the rain. Deserves an fp - TFTC

Still catching up with some neglected logging - but how could I forget this amazing site. The road is pretty remarkable as well! Lucky Phronimos, to get the photos. Mostly mist / low cloud for me. The layering is still awesome. TFTC

Early morning drizzle had made it a little wet on the long grass whilst approaching the cache. Quickly found and SL. Thanks Phronimos.

On our way back from Pio Pio to New Plymouth, saw the caches on this road and thought we'd give it a go. What a beautiful little road to explore. Quiet and peaceful. Found cache easily at GZ. Pretty daisies on the side of the road.

Heading out in the company of HKCB for a quick 24 hours down to Taranaki collecting caches around the mountain to try to tidy up the area.
We departed Hamilton at 7pm Friday and made it back home 7pm on Saturday with a haul of 70 caches and 820kms traveled. A great drive through the night, clear sky's and a fantastic day on Saturday to view the mountain in all its glory, a calm sea along the coast. Together these factors made the trip memorable as we could not have asked for better conditions to cache in.
A big thank you to all the CO's whom have placed these caches for us and continued their maintenance.
Before we hit Taranaki we needed to collect a few out-lying caches in South King Country to try to tidy the area up. A great drive through the hills and greeted by a magnificent view down the coast.

Thanks for the placement, thanks for the cache.

In the company of Cats&Dragons for a quick 24 hour blast around Mt Taranaki, with the aim to tidy up as much of the area as possible. Leaving 7pm Friday night and returning 7pm Saturday we managed the loop and found about 70 caches along the way, with a couple of hours sleep thrown in as well. The weather also played its part with fantastic vistas throughout the day of the mountain.

With some well hidden and maintain caches found throughout the day a big thanks must go to all the CO's for the placements. Took a bit of a search to find this one, went around in circles for a while before it was found deep within.

This evening I’m doing a maintenance run while escorting Yeetrees to find some of our North Taranaki geocaches. We headed off late on a stunningly beautiful hot afternoon, this was his fourteenth cache.
After only one find here, all is in order, although there’s quite a geotrail around this rock. Yeetrees followed that and got ‘lost’, but GPS coords are accurate, and eventually there it was...
As this is GroundSpeak’s Trackable Lover month, I dropped my travelling companions but picked them up again to take to an event next weekend.
With that we had got to the end of our journey and headed back home. After six hours and 18 caches later we returned home well after dark.

Was on my way North to New Plymouth for work and had decided to contact Phronimos beforehand and see if he was interested in going and checking out a cache that he had a DNF on when he was in the area. Phronimos was happy to oblige as he also wanted to do some maintenance on a couple of caches as well, so we soon hatched a plan and Phronimos decided that he would pick me up at my accommodation and we would make our way North from there, this was great as I didnt have to drive and as Phronimos was familiar with the area it made it so much easier just to be a passenger and enjoy being chauffeur around the countryside.

After finding GC7NKPR - Rocky McRock Face (Waitomo), this was the next cache that I had on my radar as we made our way North towards the King Country, after traveling along Taumatamaire Road. This is a new road that I have never being on before and I always love being on gravel roads as they are very enjoyable, especially when you have an AWD as it makes it so much easier to get around.

As we neared GZ, Phronimos managed to find a safe parking spot not too far from GZ and it wasnt too far from GZ, arriving at GZ I decided to follow the geotrail which is the worst thing that I could have done as it took me to the wrong spot. But it did look interesting as it looked like an elephant had being here as the area was totally flattened.

Decided to trust my GPSr and soon found another spot that was worth a look,was rewarded with the cache.

Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where I found it. Thanks Phronimos for placing this cache here and for bringing us to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13976). Definitely heaps of pancakes around the area.

This was my last cache in the area for this trip, it was time to check out a new cache spot with Phronimos before heading back to New Plymouth for dinner.

Find number 3533. I had been doing a walk in the Tongariro area and was travelling home when I decided to do a little detour for this one. I had been up the road before so was pleased it was not far along it. A good parking spot across the road. I then searched all the wrong places before finding the cache. I was pleased to see a blank log. Yes my {FTF} for the month. Current streak is a FTF for 30 months in a row, Also it is FTF number 144. Thank you for the placement.
